    Thank you! Still very relevant today with my second hand hood and hood sticks (seem to be genuine Land Rover no less!)

    This is a perfect video for how to install everything including the sticks. Sorry to say that most instructions and even other videos skip over some critical components. I still had to go back and do some tweaks even after this great video, but nothing that couldn’t be fixed after the fact. While this is 10 years old, new sticks that come from Exmoor may not exactly be the same here and you will need some muscle, patience, and an angle grinder more than likely. Nicely met.

    I purchased a kit here in Aus & wanted to find out how to fit the channel over the windscreen as there is no mention in the instructions supplied. In this video, the top bar goes from a loose fit at 3.59 to fully secured at 4.00. It seems Exmoor are avoiding the fact you need to drill holes in the windscreen. Anyway, I was able to deduce you bolt the channel down & then bend/ clamp it back & drill & rivet. I also assumed some sealant would be wise.

    But with that you will not be able to flip the windscreen to the front... Is there any solution for this ?

    Thanks. Just a few questions.
    If I have clips on my windscreen already, do I need to fit the front windscreen bar?
    If I have no doors can I leave the door tops off! Or should I still
    Fit these?

    • @LRLiveUK
      @LRLiveUK  3 года назад

      If you already have the right number of clips you should be fine. You'll still need the fins above the doors to keep the canvas tight and in the right shape.

    You fit the over-door channels under the front rail, which is the opposite of what the printed instructions say. Following what you do, I can't now pop rivet the front rail down (something you don't mention in the video) and the edge of the side channels digs into both sides of the side rail. Any ideas?

    Good instruction video but the rag top I bought rotted away from day 1, followed ALL the instructions and it shrunk like you wouldn't believe, in ALL four corners, especially the front corners.

    This video is fine as far as it goes, but the most challenging task - for a novice - is fitting the front screen rail to the windcsreen. Why? Because it involves (irreversibly) drilling holes in your (probably genuine) Land Rover windscreen frame and then rivetting the rail to the windscreen. Unfortuneately this procedure is not shown - which is a shame. I don't know if Exmoor have now fixed the issue (and well done to them if they have) but a few years ago their rail was made of a thicker gauge steel (i.e. stiffer) than a LR original part. This made it harder to bend the Exmoor rail down to the LR windscreen in order to then accurately drill holes and rivet the two together without making a thorough mess of your genuine LR windscreen. Also, there seems to be different views regarding how many holes you need to drill & rivet. I.e. just in the gaps between the hooks on the rail (6 gaps), or through the middle of the hooks as well (6 gaps + 7 hooks). I never found a definitive answer to that question and you'd probably have to look at an original LR factory canvas fitment to be sure. Lastly, if you seek originality, check the number and location of the pre-drilled holes in the Exmoor screen rail against a LR original item, if you can. Again, a couple of years ago there was a miss-match between the two. However to be fair Exmoor may have corrected this, and well done to them if they have. Despite the limitations of this video, thanks to Exmoor for helping us to keep these trucks on the road. (Lastly, consider looking at Issue 88 of Classic LR magazine (Sept 2020) which has an article on fitting an Exmoor canvas which may help you).
