Will never forget this game. Nebraska rolled so big it made Florida's record going in look like a fluke. At no other time under spurrier do I recall Florida getting whipped like this.
Tom Osborne was a great coach. He was way better prepared for this game than Spurrier was. The penalties for Florida was a lot and Spurrier drafted all now offensive plays for this game, rather than doing what worked for them all season long. Osbourne was a lot like Jimmy Johnson as well. His philosophy was a big O line and running the football, with an overpowering defense. Osbourne and Jimmy Johnson even rotated Defensive lineman the same way to keep the players energized and fresh, like JJ did with the Dallas cowboys in their back to back Super bowl wins, etc
In reference to Nebraska, as a Husker fan since the early 80's, they won't be "back" until they're winning no less than 9 games a season, making teams afraid to play them, being a consistent variable in the national championship discussion, being in the top 5 in running the ball, always being ranked, etc. Nebraska was so good for so long it became normal. Ahh the National Title game that saw the QB damn near singlehandedly smoke the other team. Tommie was such a beast player, damn shame he didn't win a Heisman...
This just goes to show how insanely OP the 1995 Huskers were. This Florida team would have won the NC in an ordinary season (and most of them did go on to win the NC just a year later). The 95 Huskers would have done similar things to any hypothetical time-traveling "all time great" football team, including Husker teams from other seasons. One of their early season victories was a 50-10 road blowout of a Michigan State team coached by some guy named Nick Saban. The Huskers' depth was unbelievable, especially at running back. Despite losing Lawrence Phillips to suspension due to his criminal behavior, their bench was so deep that they didn't miss him that much on the field, as they had Clinton Childs, Damon Benning, James Sims and a true freshman named Ahman Green who ended up carrying most of the running back workload after Childs and Benning both got injured. While the star power was heavy all around for the Huskers, the real reason they were able to steamroll anyone they played and not only won all their games but won them overwhelmingly (they won every game by at least 14 points, were only outscored in a half of a game once...the second half of the K-State game due to the Wildcats scoring 3 TDs late once the game was already decided... and only trailed on three occasions the entire season, two of which were in the first quarter of this game) was because they were crushingly dominant in the trenches on both sides of the ball. Despite the fact that all but one of the starters from the NC winning 1994 O-line (nicknamed "The Pipeline") graduated and had to be replaced in 1995, the 95 line was actually BETTER! They gave up zero sacks on the season (though the fact that the Huskers of that era didn't pass nearly as often as most teams helped them accomplish that). The defensive line was just as terrifying for opposing teams, as the opponents' O-lines would get overwhelmed and shoved in all directions, opening gaps for linebackers like Terrell Farley and Jamel Williams to overwhelm the backs.
The old ball coach was hard headed going into this game and it was to late to repair that blitzing of Nebraska, one year later FSU def head man Micky A went to Nebraska to learn this def scheme and use it in 96, went 11-0 and beat Florida last game of the year. Florida stayed under center with their QB and changed to shotgun for the NT game in the rematch. Added a extra blocker and boom ball out quick and offense went for 52 pts. Old ball coach said after the game he should have done this for Nebraska, not saying he would have won the game but their offense would have had a chance to produce but he added our defense had no answer for Nebraska offense that was insane.

In the 1971 "Game of the Century" between #1 Nebraska and #2 Oklahoma, Nebraska's star receiver and eventual first Heisman winner Johnny Rodgers not only opened the scoring by running a punt back 72 yards for a TD to open the scoring, he also puked at the end of the play due to how hard he ran to get that score!

For all of Spurriers wins, for all his running up the scores, for all his stupid comments, not teaching his players how to play defense and for all his perceived domination the dude won ONE national title ( and needed Ohio St to upset ASU in the Rose Bowl to have a chance). The same as Gene Chizik, Larry Coker and Ed Orgeron. He wasn't in the same stratosphere as Tom Osborne. He had a gimmicky offense, no defense and would be shut down by teams that actually hit you and played fundamental football. He won the national championship the next year because he played a Florida State team that was all gimmicky too.

Fans pulled the goal post out of the stadium at the end. I was working on mill ave in tempe that day and night. So many drunk fans from both sides lining the street.
I forgot how good Florida O line was. Ole ball coach did not account for untouched defenders.
The anticipation of the chain gang....miss these days
1995 NU vs ‘01 Miami would be THE game!
And Miami would lose. No one could score on this defense, and the way they ran the offense miami would hardly ever get the ball
It might look similar to this game
Most people don't realize how good the 1995 Florida team was
2023 Michigan Wolverines would beat them
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂@@jonjhon8491
@@andywhitesell1256 To be fair the 2023 Michigan Wolverines were a very good team, I think they are neck and neck with 2019 LSU Tigers
What a stupid take, and I hate the Gators 😂
Spurrier was a great coach. I hated him during this game but he was good overall.
“HOW MANY TACKLES CAN ONE MAN BREAK?!”
My wife bought me a picture that has the audio recording of that in the base. It's AWESOME!
Tommy was special. I love that dude ….
I think it was 7
1990 GT squad was by far the most dominant team in college football 😂
They certainly should have won it outright
😂😂 they tied with 6-4 North Carolina, barely beat Virginia, barely beat Clemson, barely beat NC State their most impressive win was a 24 point win over #19 Nebraska.. heck even Texas, Georgia, Michigan, Alabama and OSU this past season wouldve beaten them. we see teams look more dominant than that every season.. but now that i think of it maybe you were joking
@@kev614 sarcasm isn’t your strong suit 😉
Those were the good old days
5:55 game starts
I might be wrong, but I think that game was responsible for the term BEATDOWN.
Spurrier was a grasshopper to Osbornes' sensei.
Memories of my childhood
I got to see Kresser win a natty with Marshall in Huntington... dropping dimes to Moss. It was vs Montana
Huh?
That's probably the best Division I-AA team of all time
I remember this game. I was shocked by Nebraska's dominance!
If you were shocked you just didn’t pay attention to college football that year
@@joshuamcclellan4942tons of people thought nebraska couldn't compete with Florida's speed
@@CornHuskers402 They said the Same about Ohio St and Miami in 2002
Nice toss Bill
Florida with two good drives to start game ..
I get feeling some people didn't like nebraska
I don't care what anyone says. LP was the most perfect specimen for running the rock. God and he had the vision too. Something must have spooked him in the NFL......maybe he thought he couldn't be dominant so it wasn't for him? I don't know. Dude had 400 lb squat legs vigor and the moves... I don't think there will ever be a better born athlete to play the RB position but I do for sure believe there will be be hundreds of better minded athletes to play it. But they won't come close.
His off the field stuff held him back so much. He would show up to rams practice drunk apparently. If he was dedicated i think he would have been a HOFer
That Jamelle WIlliams sacks was the beginning of Spurrier's egg cooking career. He's still cookin eggs.
2:14:01 - Tommie Frazier's big touchdown run.
I used to hand an autographed poster of this run.
Man, Spurrier seems to have known it was over as soon as Phillips sprung loose for that second TD. Then the safety right afterward? It was only 15-10, but there was no coming back, haha
Bill Cosby with the coin toss… yup this didn’t age well.
Watching this is like watching Tyson beat opponents in the 80s.
49:30 is where the flood gates was opening, the safety really got it going for Nebraska
Steve can we talk sometime? I saw the pain unfolding in your eyes. This was never supposed to happen. Wasn't even possible. No way choke Nebraska could come in and do this. I know brother. I know.
Jim Nantz called college? Wow
How old are you? Or should I ask, how young are you? 😂😂😂
@@terrencedavis9921 thankfully young enough
He took over cbs games when burnt hamburger went to abc
2:32:44 Brook Berringer takes over at QB
Hard to forget tommy frazier trucking through the whole defense on 1 run
UF got stomped
Steve Spurrier went to the NFL and stunk up the place.
Nobody fuckin cares.
He really did. I'm a Washington fan. I actually thought it would work at the beginning of the first season. Then it dissipated as it went on. Ruined Patrick Ramsey. The line never came together even though we had an all pro in Jon Jansen. The second season was a wash. from the beginning.
