Tennessee fan here...much respect for Nebraska and their fans. I have no doubt that this Nebraska team would have crushed Michigan like they did us. Michigan made out like bandits in '97...stole the Heisman from Peyton (yes, I'm still bitter about that lol) and got to play Washington State (?!) for their claim at the '97 national title.
You know who got royaly screwed in a heisman race? Tommy Frazier in '95'. Eddie George was a great back but Tommy was the best player in college football that year.
But thats the problem the Heisman had for a while. It is supposed to be awarded to the "Best College player" not the best potential pro player. In the 90's thats kind of what it was but I think thats turned around after all Eric Crouch won it in 2000.
+apex6689 Nebraska would have beat Michigan worse. Big Ten has always been a joke. Still is. Worse thing that ever happened to Nebraska football. Different times.

After Arkansas bolted to the SEC, half of the SWC Texas Teams joined the Big 8 Conference(Texas, Texas A & M, Texas Tech, and Baylor) to form The Big 12. The Other Texas Schools(Texas Christian, Southern Methodist, Rice, and Houston) were scattered everywhere else. Was it in 1995 then when The SWC Conference was dissolved then?

I was 10 in 1995 and just getting into youth football when Nebraska won that first championship, then went on to win 2 more over the next 3 years. I've been a fan ever since (all the way in North Carolina). Mid to late 90's Nebraska had the best rushing offense in the history of college football IMO.
@@generalkayoss7347 Same. Husker fan here also in NC. I was a triple option QB in Junior High when Nebraska made their runs. Have been a fan since. No one could call the option game like Tom Osborne. The man was a genius.

Seems like these players played with more sportsmanship than in today's game. I didn't notice much trash talking in this game. Today seems like there isn't as much respect between teams.
It was different on the field. Billy would say how they would grab each other, twist knees and ankles, do everything they could to really really hurt you. Anyone else watching a marathon of the 90's championship games? The 1995 Orange Bowl versus Miami, 1996 Fiesta Bowl versus Florida, and this one, or is it just me?
Was Miami's 3rd bowl loss in a row, the year before was shut out by Arizona 29-0 in the bowl, was Erickson's last game, was in trouble with the NCAA. When did Miami players know it was Erickson's last game. Do you think it would affect their performance? Neb 24, Miami 17. Not impressive, but yes, a win. Spurrier 11-10 in bowls, Fulmer 8-7 in bowls. Osborne's impressive feat was beating 3 top 10 ranked CO teams and the margin of the victory over TN, FL, not the victories themselves.

Too bad Tennessee and Florida State suffered their only regular season losses when they did. Florida State was a much better team than Tennessee in 1997 and IIRC finished above them in the polls.

Yes it was the Big 12 vs SEC. this was the year that Nebraska beat Texas A & M in the first ever Big 12 Championship gm. I saw the video the other day where the Huskers had beaten the Aggies 54-15 to go to the Orange Bowl. What a lopsided win just like this one
Ummmm....that was not the first ever Big 12 championship game. The first ever, was the year before, when Texas upset Nebraska. That was the 1996 season, the first year of the Big 12.
if people remember Nebraska held the #1 spot all year until the Mizzou game. Michigan blew out Ohio St and jumped NU. Like Scott Frost said to the coaches, "If your job depended on winning your next game and you can choose who you could play, who would you play...? Michigan or Nebraska...that answered the question why NU got part of the title. NU would have beaten Michigan by 10-20 points easy.
+husker hammer Nebraska's second string would have beaten Michigan by 10-20. Nebraska's first string would have dismantled them worse than they did Tennessee. Times have changed a lot. I'm glad to have lived through those times. People knew how to get things done in general back then.
Michigan was the true and ONLY Champion for 1997. First of all, Michigan was ranked #1 in BOTH polls going into their bowl game. They won, and beat a highly ranked WSU team handedly. Therefore, never in the history of college football has a team went into a bowl game being ranked, then won, and dropped in ranking? Look at little bitch boy Neb qb Frost, whining and crying to the coaches to vote them ahead of Michigan, since it was Osbournes last game.....You see, the coaches poll that year was tainted, and not only that, but the AP is a higher ranked poll, and has more meaning. Oh, I guess you Nebraska fans forgot about that little game you had in Missouri, in which you LOST (if not for cheating, and kicking the ball in the endzone). But, you would like to forget that little hiccup, hey sparky? Michigan dominated every game they played, beat more ranked teams, had the Heisman Trophy winner (Woodson), and none of their games were close....Nebraska on the other hand, it took a miracle and LUCK for you to "beat" Missouri, and then you played a highly overrated Tennessee team which had chokemeister Manning at the helm...(Yes, Manning always choked in big college games, just ask him about Florida....lol)
B Tyler Hows that piece of plywood of a trophy? Most "experts" have said Nebraska would have beaten Michigan. Highly Ranked WSU? They were like 19th in that Rose Bowl. NU beat #4 Tennessee by 28 points. Give me a freaking break...and besides if WSU hadn't been fucked at the end they were poised to win the game.
I get rivals not liking Tenn, but I've never understood the unbridled hatred for Peyton? He's an all time great QB, and a class act on and off the field. He never ran his mouth, never caused controversy, was always respected by teammates, and never had off-field issues. He's about as clean of an athlete as you can create, where does all this disdain come from?
After looking at The History of Nebraska Football, of their 5 Natl Titles, 4 were earned by beating an SEC Team(LSU Alabama, Fla, Tennessee). That’s the way we do it Go Big Red 💪

I’m a Pitt fan but Nebraska is the real national champions of 1997. Don’t know who thought a team who barley beats a crappy Washington State team should share a title. Nebraska would’ve destroyed Michigan.
This was arguably Tennessee's most talented roster in the 90s, and the fact Nebraska pummeled them is further evidence how insanely biased the media is in awarding Michigan a share of the title. Peyton was the best player that year, and Nebraska was the best team. The Big10 is a constant parasite on this sport, always receiving more accolades than they deserve because they have so many stooges in the media.
If Nebraska played Michigan that year the Huskers would've stomped Michigan! The Huskers absolutely embarrassed Tennessee and Peyton Manning in this game! Michigan barely beat a Washington State team! Nebraska 31 Michigan 14!
So not true! Nebraska barely beat a unranked Colorado team and never Even played anybody the whole season. The only reason you guys got a share of The title was because Coach Osborne was retiring at the end of the season.

Michigan fans go on and on about the points per game allowed by their defense, but fail to realize WHY the Nebraska defense allowed 17 points per game (7 more than Michigan). Michigan's offense was TERRIBLE, scoring only 27 points per game, and often the first stringers for Michigan had to play deep into the 3rd even 4th quarter in order to ensure a victory. In my opinion the two beatdowns that Nebraska gave to SEC teams in the 90's is what inspired the SEC to start playing the physical style of football they play today. I mean think about it, the SEC started to step up it's game over the next five years or so, after this. Tennessee won the title the next year, then LSU got better, then Auburn and Georgia got better, and eventually they started that string of National titles, but it seems like after this game the SEC steadily became more and more physical, and less finesse; unlike the Florida and Tennessee teams that just got overpowered by Nebraska.
jeremy10ization Tom Osborn was like 20-1-1 against the SEC. The only loss was to Bear Bryant, they were 1-1 against each other. And most of those SEC foes were league champions.
Back then was the godly days. We’d be going almost undefeated, winning national titles, all that good stuff. But now, we can’t even make it to a bowl game.
Well thank you and happy holidays to you and your's! Now when are you guys going to come to your senses and go back to running the triple-option full-time? Lol! Man I miss those days!
If your still fighting Michigan fans here's the facts: Nebraska (the coaches' poll #1) played 5 top 25 opponents to Michigan's 3, and 2 of those were rated higher than any team Michigan played. Nebraska outscored their opponents by an average of 30.2 points per game, Michigan by 17.3. And after the bowls, Nebraska had the #1 offense and #5 defense, while Michigan had the #45 offense and #2 defense. So don't tell us we wouldn't win. Michigan Tom called we want or trophy thanks pumpkin.

I remember KC and Jo Jo’s terrible National Anthem and I knew it was going to be a long night. My friend, UT punter Chris Hogue, had our best play of the night. (A long punt) 🤦♂️
I’ve always wondered how Florida State’s 1997 team would have fared against this Nebraska one, because the Seminoles were a better team than Tennessee. FSU played Florida tougher than the Vols and dominated UNC’s best team ever. Tennessee played a shitload of close games this year. Then again, Florida State struggled in title games during this period and would’ve faced a team not only looking for revenge (for the 1994 Orange Bowl) but also hoping to send its coach out a winner.
Boy, what mismatch this game was talent-wise. Tennessee had 12 or 13 future NFL players and a first ballot HOFer at QB. Nebraska 4 or 5 NFL players and Scott Frost at QB, LOL. Tom Osborne was an absolute wizard to get so much out of so little.
That said, UT has been notoriously bad at stopping both mobile quarterbacks AND the option. A matchup with a Nebraska of this era signaled doom from the start. Look at what happened when we played them again 2 years later. Same result different cast. I hated to see Peyton go out like this, but I do give heavy props to how effective Nebraska was in this era. Maybe now that the option is back in vogue they will return to form.
By my quick count NU had at least 20 players (probably more) on this bowl game roster that played in the NFL, including eight of the defensive starters. Notable players are Ahman Green, Mike Brown, Ralph Brown, Jay Foreman, Carlos Polk, Mike Rucker, Eric Warfield, Grant Wistrom all of whom played at least eight years in the NFL. There was far more talent on this team than you realize. That said, I agree that TO was one of the best coaches of all time.

How is Nebraska not the lone national champion in 1997 after going 13-0 and beating #3 UT in the Orange Bowl? UT win the SEC with a 11-1 record and their only SEC loss was to Florida. That was a top 5 team that UT lost to that beat PSU in its bowl game.
FSU fan and wish Kansas St would have beat A&M in the Big 12 conference game that year and played Tenn, without our starting QB lucky to have stayed in the game.
Nebraska beat the shit out of Peyton that night! The Cornhuskers more than deserved that Co-National Championship they shared with A Weak Michigan Team who squeaked by Washington State(And Cryin’ Leaf) at the Rose Bowl.
Nebraska beat the shit out of the two best SEC teams of the 90s, who had much better offenses than any SEC teams of today. Then they put the icing on the cake in 99 when they trounced UT again. No question this team's 3 out of 4 run was better than Bama's current run.
Big 10’s greatest games? WTF?! Nebraska was not in the big 10 back then. This makes no sense. Unless the big 10’s just trying to get some kind of decent record against the SEC. lol.

No sympathy for Michigan or the Big 10. They refused to join the Bowl Alliance so Nebraska had to play #3 Tennessee while Michigan played a much weaker PAC-10 team. The Big 12 did their part joining the alliance. The Big 10 wanted to protect their precious Rose Bowl. If you're not willing to play #2 then you deserve to split the title at best. (Same with Penn St. a couple of years earlier.) For those who say Michigan would have beaten Nebraska, we'll never know because your conference wouldn't man up and play the game.
I understand your point, but I feel that it was more of an approach of wholesomeness on the part of the Big-10, as oppose to one of cowardliness. But then I am a woman, so what do I know?

The best team in the nation was Nebraska, if anyone stole half the title, it was Michigan, who should have have leapfrogged a Nebraska team that never lost. Also, Rob Johnson belongs in the kitchen, where his autism would be better suited.
Here you go Rob, more for you: The Big 10 was 28-16 against nonconference opponents in 1997, good for 4th place amongst conferences. The SEC, virtually ignored by ABC/ESPN all that season, went 37-5, the best record by any conference since World War 2! They went 5-1 in bowl games. The PAC 10, at 28-8, and the ACC, at 22-9, were also well ahead of the Big 10 in the end. The Big 10 did edge out the Big 12, who went 26-16, but the Big 12 did less poorly in their bowls (2-3) and were better against rated nonconference opponents (Big 12 was 5-8, Big 10 was 3-9). Not only was the Big Ten not the best conference in 1997, they were not even particularly good. Most importantly, Michigan played 6 teams in the regular season who earned bowl berths, while Nebraska only played 4. But the 6 teams Michigan played went a disastrous 0-6 in their bowl games, and none of them even came within a touchdown, losing by 18, 10, 28, 15, 27, and 17 points. Nebraska's 4 bowl-bound opponents went 2-2 in their bowls.
I'm going to keep shoveling Rob into the ground here. In their regular season finale (not counting the Big 12 title game), Nebraska survived a rally from 5-6 Colorado to win by only 27-24. Michigan had already beaten Colorado 27-3, so this was a "common opponents" argument as well as a poor performance argument. Michigan played Colorado at home, in the season opener. Nebraska played Colorado on the road, at the end of the season, when Colorado was 5-5 and needed a win to get a bowl invitation. Moreover, it was a rivalry game for Nebraska, as Colorado annually printed the Nebraska game in red on their schedule, and almost always played Nebraska tougher than one would otherwise expect them to. So the comparison is not at all equitable. Furthermore, Nebraska's 2 poor performances both came on the road, and one of those teams finished #23 in the AP's own poll. Michigan's 2 worst performances, 21-14 over Notre Dame and 28-24 over Iowa, both came at home, and neither of those teams finished ranked. If you take average home field advantage point differential into account, those Nebraska performances are not worse than Michigan's poorest at all. But let's go ahead and accept the most extreme spin for Michigan. Let's say that Michigan's Iowa and Notre Dame results were better than Nebraska's Missouri and Colorado results, and ignore where the games were played and such. That gives Michigan a 2 game performance advantage over Nebraska. However, Michigan also only beat Ohio State 20-14 and Washington State 21-16. Both of those teams were highly ranked, but Kansas State and Tennessee were ranked higher than anyone Michigan played, and Nebraska beat those teams by 30 and 25 points. They also beat #18 Washington by 13 on the road and #20 Texas A&M by 39 on a neutral field. So there goes Michigan's 2 game performance advantage. Poof. Furthermore, bowl games should carry greater emphasis, and Michigan won theirs 21-16 while Nebraska won 42-17. And that was one game after Nebraska beat #20 Texas A&M 54-15 in the Big 12 title game. Hardly an anomaly. So. Michigan has no argument left at all.
Still more? OH YAH, gonna put the final nail in Rob's coffin: the SEC went 37-5 in nonconference games, still the best record any conference has put together in the last 65 years (at least). They went 5-1 in bowls, and would have gone 6-0 had Tennessee not been served up to the Nebraska juggernaut (it would have been Florida State if the Seminoles hadn't been upset by Florida in their finale). So how likely is it that SEC champion Tennessee is only the 7th best team in the land? It's possible, but highly unlikely. The real problem here, as usual, is a simple case of the AP poll ignoring a head-to-head result. Tennessee (#7, 11-2) won at UCLA (#5, 10-2) 30-24. Not only that, but both of Tennessee's losses came to teams ranked ahead of UCLA, and UCLA lost to a team that is ranked behind Tennessee. This ranking is one of those that is so utterly and inexcusably bad, that any voter who made this decision should not be voting at all. And in fact, I suspect that if you were to throw out all the ballots that ranked UCLA ahead of Tennessee, the whole AP poll would look a lot more sensible. Starting with #1. The reason UCLA moved ahead of Tennessee in the final poll is because Tennessee lost by 25 to Nebraska in the Orange Bowl, while UCLA beat Texas A&M by 6 in the Cotton Bowl. But when you consider that Nebraska had just beaten A&M by 39 in the Big 12 title game, this whole fiasco makes even less sense. Move Tennessee to #5, dropping UCLA to #6 and North Carolina to #7. Tennessee can remain behind SEC runner-up Florida because the Gators beat the Volunteers, and though they were upset twice in SEC play, they made up for one of those games by upsetting #3 Florida State in their finale. Incidentally, Washington State (#9, 10-2) also beat UCLA, thereby winning the PAC 10, and I would rank WSU ahead of the Bruins myself, but the AP poll has a case here, because WSU's win was a close home win (37-34), they were upset by Arizona State, and UCLA outperformed WSU on the season, though not by much.
I think what is overlooked, is no different than the st Louis rams in (2000?) when they played the Tennessee Titans in the super bowl in which both teams by right were offensive juggernauts and St Louis having the more clear distinction of the fact based off of typical first quarter scoring where I myself remember catching on very early and blindly betting every game St Louis played in which watching whatever aired in the northwest, I would know how my wager was doing by the timely scoring updates posted at the bottom of the television screen where most of the time if not all the time to my recollection, my bet was safe toward the end of the first quarter where it seems as if it was always 21 to 0. This is what we can safely call impressionism, because the bias was certainly as described, and if it wasn't theoretically over in the first quarter it was certainly over many times by the third quarter and here is the point that I'm trying to make that I believe is overlooked oftentimes and it was with St Louis and more than likely with Nebraska's defense. An opposing coach that plays the St Louis Rams I believe in my heart of hearts does not concoct the game plan on we're going to be 21 points down early on boys and this is how we are going to play it from there... I can't see how that could ever be the script of any game plan at the professional level. And therefore more than likely the opposing coach I guess would have to concede a bit in which perhaps the best chance to pull out a win is to keep St Louis from scoring so quickly. You either got to try to contain them somehow fair or unfair or just slow they're scoring down...period. if I were a coach I would definitely design some plays with some third stringers to inflict some unsportsmanlike type penalties if I could get away with it where at least one of them gets ejected if not two or more if I can get away with it and that right there goes a long way in at least throwing a monkey wrench in the scheme of things whether it works in my favor or works against me who knows... But I know one thing it slows the game down itself and gives my boys extra rest which is certainly better than being on their heels because the fact of the matter is St Louis was a very effective high-powered offense end of story. And since an opposing coach is not going to script the game on what to do because we're going to be 21 points down boys early and quick.... Whatever game plan that they came in with is Paramount to what Mike Tyson always said about everybody has a game plan until they get knocked on their ass. When you have an offense like that where the bias is most games run away early from the opposing team, does it not make sense now for the St Louis Rams to just play very simple bend but don't break type defense where now the opposing teams biggest enemy is the clock itself and that's how it's done. By the middle of the season it started looking as if the St Louis Rams didn't have much defense and for the life of me I couldn't understand why people didn't understand the distinction here where I myself could see past all that and new they actually had very good defense and that's evident by the very low scoring super bowl game in which the Titans were virtually no different than the Rams in terms of demolishing teams offensively just the same and obviously the Titans had good defenses as well. I remember betting on this Nebraska game while residing in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, in a small town called turtle Creek where they got their bars but with the ethnic names of The Italian club and the Polish club and so on where they took football especially very seriously being die hard Steeler fans and since it's pretty boring in that neck of the woods being that part of the United States, there wasn't much going on in the typical Pennsylvanian other than the Steelers and the penguins and not so much the pirates anymore like back in the Willie stargel days and barry bonds etc.... And the Steelers and the local bar club and Polska kielbasa and mowing the lawn on Saturday and betting on football college or pro.... Betting on football college or pro. Betting on football college or pro..... I was a novice back then and of course I think I went like 11 for 12 in the college bowl games not even knowing what the hell I was doing... I said to my manager I don't know this Peyton Manning kind of scares me and he says yeah I hear you but Nebraska in my opinion is going to whip the shit out of them. I said oh really what's their strength and he says to me they can do it all, offense, defense.... Really? .....oh yeah. And then he explained why especially from the front 4 on the defensive side first before now addressing their relentless high-powered running game where blah blah blah and Tennessee isn't going to have an answer for it especially when considering the fact that Nebraska gets stronger and stronger going into the fourth quarter....its over. Of course I bet on Nebraska and I'll be damned if the game didn't play out that way. I think in the case of Nebraska it's no different than St Louis where there distinction of one or two intangibles now Force the other team to take on the only last known resort of becoming a one-dimensional and therefore predictable team to play against where I will admit the only difference between that super bowl for instance and this Orange bowl is that Peyton Manning didn't give in to that particular distinction and played Tennessee Vol football Allah Peyton Manning who even in college showed the ear markings of being that come back and extremely dangerous quarterback where Tom Brady certainly knew and Tom Brady himself never truly comfortable or pleased when not scoring with 5 minutes left in a 21-point lead where he knows all too well he left that crack in the door where it seems like one out of five times Peyton Manning is going to stick it to you when that happens and I surely know that because I've been on the receiving end of it more than once and it sucks. Remember the Monday night game with Tampa Bay and the colts The following season after Tampa Bay beat the raiders in the super bowl? I was giving up four points with over 5 minutes left and I could literally afford to give up two touchdowns to what was considered still the best defense out there.... Nebraska had excellent defense they just didn't need to show it or certainly exercise it from a game of theory point of view and the only problem with that is theoretically now when a good defense has to knuckle down and show it, it is sometimes difficult because they have been predominantly playing too much of the season.....soft. But of course that's the value of a good coach where I'd have them ready and reverse the notion of not being battle tested by reminding them of the fact that they should be nowhere near close to tired or beaten up in any way shape or form and coming down the stretch when I know that it's more than likely in a few games coming up they are going to have to knuckle down that's when I pull out the coach Bear Bryant methodology: "What the heck? This memo says show up tomorrow at 4:00 hey doc I think coach made a mistake here...." Ain't no mistake other than maybe you don't read so good why don't you go ask the coach yourself..... "Hey okay I just playing doc see all at 4:00 a.m..... @@rooh5825 man that is not the way to break down strength and weakness of a team when it comes to the bottom line and if you're case in point therefore is determining who is rightfully number one, cool. All I'm saying is in terms of trying to beat the book, what you are laying out is a marble slate to encase your tomb. This sort of reminds me of USC playing Oklahoma back in the early 2000s where it was obvious USC should have played Auburn, if we are talking about putting the two best teams together where in this case Nebraska should have played Michigan in the finals end of story. I really don't think it has anything to do with Rose bowl tradition and that sort of thing when considering Alabama and LSU played each other in the national championship game after 2010.... And I always looked at it as of course politics and controversy where of course it's the politics more so than anything else but I also understand it's also about distinctions and that is how it was done until they came up with what I think is a very lame playoff bracket where now theoretically any team has a chance whereas before the flip side of these distinctions that are part of the history of college football itself when it comes down to determinations, and I myself liked this fact that a team like Boise State has to accept the fact that they wake up every morning knowing that no matter what the hell they do they are not going to get into the national championship game and rightfully so. Other than Utah itself kind of throwing this very weird monkey wrench into the scheme of things where once again we have a team based off of the old determinations if I'm not mistaken has to wake up every day knowing no matter what they do they will not play in the championship game but here they are more than once I recall in pretty big bowl games against Alabama for one and whipping the shit out of them and it's hard to say what is actually on the up and up in those cases because predating that I thought the point was well made and would play out that way forever more but like I said Utah screwed that up.... But it was the bowl game or Hawaii representing the WAC and because they had a decent season were trying to raise a fuss about being a consideration as far as one of the big dogs out there and they played Georgia who had a pretty decent team but the SEC was pretty stacked that year and if I'm not mistaken USC overshadowing things as well but don't quote me on that but do quote me on this Georgia absolutely whip the shit out of Hawaii and I think the point was well made. When Boise was certainly making a statement for a number of successive seasons I remember arguing against them for the very simple point or demonstration that regardless if let's say they do in fact have something of a competitive team which I doubt, what makes their contention a complete farce and could be proven so easily is to stick them in the SEC for a couple of seasons and have at it, yap away heh heh hah hah.... Here I'll even let you use our 50,000 watt radio station on campus as your soon-to-be SOS PULPIT.... GTFO .... By the way I have not watched a single college football game since 2014. For 15 years I watched it every Saturday from morning all the way till night time religiously. Same for the NFL sort of but I watched it out of appreciation because it's for organized and clean and skilled but college football wow I was legitimately a die-hard fan. I literally have no idea if college football is even played anymore to be honest....
As talented as Tennessee was its hard to believe they were smoked like this. The offensive line was ypung but they had Mannong and Lewis in the backfield.

I couldnt agree more go Vols,,,,
jeremy10ization Tom Osborn was like 20-1-1 against the SEC. The only loss was to Bear Bryant, they were 1-1 against each other. And most of those SEC foes were league champions.
I agree
Michigan lol. That game would have resulted in war crime trials. Real NC right here.
Love how the Big Ten claims Nebraska in games like this....when they weren't in the B1G at that time.
Interesting both teams Nebraska beat in 95 and 97 won the national championship the next year, and both were SEC teams..
The announcers are so funny ! When they count Neb. Out before they start lol
That was the best punt i ever saw in a football game
Damn, those T. O. coached teams were awesome. Smashmouth ball.
Back then was the godly days. We’d be going almost undefeated, winning national titles, all that good stuff. But now, we can’t even make it to a bowl game.
I was at this game. Awesome.
i too was at this game, and it truly was awesome. amazing dominance.
Well thank you and happy holidays to you and your's!
Now when are you guys going to come to your senses and go back to running the triple-option full-time? Lol!
Man I miss those days!
greatest games of the current big 10 roster, doesn't matter that they weren't
I only needed to watch about 10 minutes of the Alabama Vs. Michigan game last night. Ouch!
Damn. That was an ass whoopin.
O S U was 4 ..Penn State was 3 ..
46 on White would have been suspended for a season nowadays 19:32
You’re right it was Big 12 vs SEC.
Good ol Nebraska football!!!
Feels nice to know that we were good at one point in time
Yepper, but Neb still has a losing bowl record thanks to Solich. God, the admin did right in canning him thinking anybody but him, but it just hasn't panned out. Solich has 1 conference championship in 20 years of coaching now.
Go Big Red !🌽🌽🌽🌽☠️☠️☠️
Very nice indeed. Makes me wonder what we did before You Tube.
In 1996 Nebraska was ranked #1 in the nation and Florida was ranked #2. They played for the national championship in the Fiesta Bowl. Nebraska beat Florida 62 to 24. (!ND the game really wasn't that close. ) LOL
I guess this is the last Pre-BCS college football season? All the obnoxious sports pundits complained that there needed to be a deciding game, so they got the BCS National Championship. Then those same bozos complained that there needed to be a playoff system, so there 4 team playoff was created. Now they want more. The student athletes are basically pros at this point...
Manning 38 yds in the second half, 134 total. Leaf 330 against the #1 defense. NEB had nothing to do with the majority of Manning career chokes when it mattered.
Nebraska shut down Manning and the number three team in country. Michigan couldn't stop the number seven team and had too hang on in the end.
Really? Yet who had the better NFL career? Manning, but let’s recap, what did the Rose Bowl prove. That Michigan’s defense wasn’t as good as described. You can throw stats at me all you want but bottom line, if Leaf who was a shitty QB can torch that defense, shows they were as good as described
@@sorney98 "Really? Yet who had the better NFL career?"
Neb fans and always looking to the future in attempt to make Neb look better. Like. "Neb beat FL who won the NC the next year." HA! Manning started 39 games at TN and had 2 significant wins. When it mattered, Manning, like Osborne, MOST of the time, choked.
"If Leaf who was a shitty QB can torch that defense"
You bit*ch. You never do any research and constantly make a fool of yourself bec of it.
Manning and Leaf were virtually tied in 97 and Manning was a Sr and Leaf a Jr.
2 Peyton Manning SR QB 287 Cmp, 477 Att, 3819 Yds, 36 TD, 11 Int
3 Ryan Lea JR QB 227 Cmp, 410 Att, 3968 Yds, 34 TD, 11 Int
Mongoloid alert.
Man Nebraska still hasnt recovered from that ass whoopin colorado gave them in 2001
Fr
That's what happens when an elite coach retires and leaves the dynasty to someone else. Do you believe Alabama would still be at the top of college football if Saban had retired in 2017 like Osborne did in 97? Osborne retiring at 60 was the worst thing that could happen to Nebraska just like anywhere else
I was eating breakfast, not really paying attention to the game yet, then 78 yard punt lol...
i like the all white pants Nebraska had. Not a huge fan of the stripes we have now.
I remember KC and Jo Jo’s terrible National Anthem and I knew it was going to be a long night. My friend, UT punter Chris Hogue, had our best play of the night. (A long punt) 🤦♂️
"OH! ANOTHER FUMBLE! TOUCHDOWN NEBRASKA!"
Don't lose hope man! We're building...just pray!
Thomas Kerr I’ve already lost hope😔its been about 20 years
I’ve always wondered how Florida State’s 1997 team would have fared against this Nebraska one, because the Seminoles were a better team than Tennessee.
Was that when mack brown was coaching
@@ericpackers1700 Very last UNC team he coached before 2019. IIRC, they finished in the top 5.
Let's see here... Scott Frost was one of the FEW QB's to EVER have a Dbl-K season... (That's a grand rushing, & another grand passing in the SAME season, for you SEC types) HOW many yards rushing did `ol Peyton-Pizza have in his BEST year ever? Hell, Here it is 2018, & Frosty's just getting STARTED, & `ol Peyton has been Yesterday's newz for 5 years now...
Lol Nebraska had talent too. Not just great NFL players but great college players.
3321far - don’t know much about the game then?
all right this is not a big ten greatest game, nebraska was in the big 12 during this game
Lmao War eagle Auburn
Maybe the B1G should claim "The Game of the Century" too.
I watched this game haha
Tennessee picked up the Natty the following year. So much talent
Please don’t forget the prayer answered against Mizzou.
sad that this still repeats
Nebraska beat the shit out of the two best SEC teams of the 90s, who had much better offenses than any SEC teams of today. Then they put the icing on the cake in 99 when they trounced UT again. No question this team's 3 out of 4 run was better than Bama's current run.
Is it still better than Bama’s run? Bama has five national titles and counting since 2009. And an offense that’s maybe the best ever.
Big 10’s greatest games? WTF?! Nebraska was not in the big 10 back then. This makes no sense. Unless the big 10’s just trying to get some kind of decent record against the SEC. lol.
War eagle Auburn but respect the Nebraska fans and history!
They need everything they can claim right now......just sayin....lives in Nebraska.....played at NU.....thus NU in my blood......
Check out behind the scenes and the surprise of all of us former teammates in the weight room prior to the SCOTT FROST press conference.

Big10 shouldn't take any credit for this. Nebraska was Big8 (Big12?) at the time.
Straight up ass kicking. UT came out and laid a huge egg
SEC sucked during the 90’s always getting there asses kicked by Nebraska. First Florida went down and then Tennessee shame on u SEC
War eagle
Nebraska was just that dominant. I know it's hard to believe, but they were the Alabama of their time
Lets hope these guys have lots of baby Huskers!
Big 10 greatest games, no way!
@@maryakopyan3224 an honest woman. I like that.
you do realize that nebraska almost lost to colorado and mizz michigan's defense would of smashed nebraska we smashed colorado
Nebraska beat 4 ranked teams, including #2 Washington AT Husky Stadium, 17 KState, 14 Texas A&M, and finally #3 Tennessee, by an average score of 45-18. Nebraska would handily have opponents defeated by halftime, and third, fourth, whatever stringers were playing the entire second half, allowing garbage points to be scored by their opponents. Also, before the "Nebraska should have never jumped the number one team if the number one team didn't lose" NOT SO FAST MY FRIEND. Let's go back to November 8, 1997. Nebraska was number one, barely beat Missouri, at Missouri, a rivalry game, and Michigan jumped them.
But of course that's the value of a good coach where I'd have them ready and reverse the notion of not being battle tested by reminding them of the fact that they should be nowhere near close to tired or beaten up in any way shape or form and coming down the stretch when I know that it's more than likely in a few games coming up they are going to have to knuckle down that's when I pull out the coach Bear Bryant methodology:
"What the heck? This memo says show up tomorrow at 4:00 hey doc I think coach made a mistake here...."
Ain't no mistake other than maybe you don't read so good why don't you go ask the coach yourself.....
"Hey okay I just playing doc see all at 4:00 a.m..... (jeez we at home this Sunday against the worst team in the league and got a bye rounds going into the playoffs... shrug, oh well)
