Sad story about this song and video : "The video is dedicated to Arielle Daniel, a girl who was killed by a train on 12 November 2005, at the age of seventeen, together with a friend of hers, Heather Bates, who was fourteen years old. Arielle was a big Porcupine Tree fan who founded the band's MySpace Group. According to news reports, the girls stepped into the path of the train together in an apparent suicide attempt. Both were from Oak Creek, Wisconsin. During a show at Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on 2 June 2007, her family were present among the audience, so Steven Wilson paid tribute to them, saying "This is for Arielle" just before the band played "Blackest Eyes" which was her favourite song. That night, "Way Out of Here" was performed without showing the video on the screen"
He's great here, and his solo work is really good too. I met him at a Marillion concert once, he opened for them and then he was at the bar for a while, really nice guy.
Also want to shout out the fact that Richard Barbieri's soundscapes in the last section absolutely crush it. That continual increase in tension and increase in Gav's intensity is just phenomenal.
Colin Edwin, you'll never see a more mellow dude with a smile on his face while playing bass during crushing riffs. Also, all the credit in the world to you two for letting songs play unbroken/unpaused.
Yeah, Gavin is the bomb. He's King Crimson Musical director now, and one of their 3 drummers, Yes, 3 drummers. He's a beast that's for sure. Seeing you react to this was quite good, having a death shirt means you obviously have been exposed to great drummers already, so seeing you giggle almost like a little girl over Gavin was, well, just like we all did when we first discovered him. We all giggled and gushed over the display of chops us mere mortals can only dream of. I also wanna add this: what's so great about Gavin and porcupine tree, is that they all have chops like madmen, but they also have beautiful songs. It's the best of both worlds, chops chops chops, and beautifully crafted music.
Gavin's father was a jazz player and his son learned jazz first, so you guessed right about his background. Also you gotta check Hatesong (live version), Gavin is going totally beast mode !
