In my opinion, the numbers the amp did are not bad at all. If they would just rate this amp for what it does versus heavily inflating then I don’t think anyone would look twice. It’s just a bad look when a company does this regardless of what the dyno numbers are. You’d think that they would get their acts together knowing guys like you are out their keeping them honest and calling them out on their BS when this happens. Keep up the great work “D” 👍

Regardless of what the numbers are in the manual, it is still well in line with the the dyno run numbers and the price. Unfortunately unfortunately at the same time, wattage isn't everything.
I seriously doubt anyone would buy it if it made rated power at 1% distortion with a signal to noise ratio of 70%.
But it's 80% efficient, 105 DB signal-to-noise ratio, well under 1% distortion, the size of a thick cell phone, and looks beautiful!
I would love to give this an extensive listening run in a SQ system for the amp can be tuned and listened to because this is the most important part of an amplifier after all.
This is a great video and at least we know what we're starting with if we decide to get it.

Is there a searchable database of tested amps anywhere? I'd like to compare apples to apples - meaning tested specs and prices rather than marketing hype.
For instance, let's say I'm looking for tested and proven 90-110W either monoblock or x2ch, regardless of how it's hyped. Then I can start comparing prices. Google seems useless.

Pay more money for product brands that are reknown to pride themselves in quality and no bullshit. Otherwise, QC and certifications like ISO mean fuxking nothing. They're just there to make it harder for small businesses to thrive while big corporations can just lobby and throw cash at the regulatory bodies to let the bullshit fly. How the f can anyone know what they're buying these days when something so blatant is allowed on the market? Answer is at the beginning of my rant 😐

Might get flame sprayed for this but it’s a pretty solid amp for mids and tweets. How much more power than 100 watts do you need to drive your average car speakers? I am still trying to wrap my head around budget amps putting out 1000 or more watts. As a SQ competitor in the 90’s I never considered needing that kind of power unless you were an SPL person. I sat in a SQ vehicle about 3 years ago and I have no idea what was in it but it was the loudest SQ vehicle I have ever heard. The owner kept telling me to turn it up and it was so loud I never hit full volume. It sounded awesome but it reinforces my opinion on whether or not you actually need much power on your mids and highs. I think 100 watts is plenty and 125 or 135 is pretty much overkill but 150+ is insane. Mind you, I am talking mids and highs for actual real world listening. Competition is understandably a time and place to show off and have a bit of overkill. SPL competition is a completely different beast and I can’t think of any reason why you would choose a 1 ohm stable 4 channel over a giant mono sub amp. I also don’t think they are that great looking. I like the newish MB Quart Formula series looks but I don’t believe that they make power. Maybe the monos if they are class D. No way the class a/b stereo and multi channels. Also, I can’t help but think about ripping off “Who’s Line is it Anyway” when watching modern amp tests. “Welcome to Who’s Amp is it Anyway, where the THD doesn’t matter and the ratings are made up!” 🤣

While I relish the days of running my Soundstream Reference amps...to be fair; I think the only thing ruffling feathers here is what they rated the amp at vs output. 100w x 4 @4Ω for $200 is nothing to be disappointed in. Thinking back, the Ref 644 was rated for less (75w x 4 @ 4Ω) at $700msrp? in 1995 dollars! Granted it probably put out closer to 100w per channel...but still. What I wish is that Soundstream still made their own boards etc like Rockford does. Instead we get cookie cutter build house designs. Sigh...

You know back in the day, I am in Metro phoenix, but the bigger amp companies put out one great series after another.
But all the companies that started to outsource once the hobby became bigger and attracted more people that wanted builds but not to compete, the series became hit and miss.
Sadly Soundstream amps fell into that as well.

What a shame. I remember the big blue Soundstream 6 channel amp that would power your whole system. You could bridge channels to power your front speakers including 3 way, power 1 or 2 subs with the rear channels. Darlington outputs that easily made more than the rated power.
Surely not a budget amp but you could rely on the specs which are needed to set up your system. Oh well.

  • @ilkkak3065
    @ilkkak3065 3 года назад +2

Actually those number are good. If you get 2x94w + 540w you can easily drive basic system and with right sub it will Be loud. But those ratings are Bull shit. There was Time when Soundstream under rated their amps. I still got that old first series Rubicon 204 wich was rated 4x25w and made 4x38w and 2x138w.

3500 wax max. I bet some guy in coocoo land was like, let's multiply the max watts by PI 3.14 out of no where. So they got 700 watts x 2 = 1400 watts x 3.14 = 4396 watts and then said its 80% efficent so that's 3516 watts at 14.4v but everyone complains of those ratings so lets rate it at 13.37v and let's put 3500 watts Max.

Making a request for a upcoming dyno! I would love to see the new Rockville db comp 5, I’m running 1 right now on 2 hdx3 18s, then I’ll be strapping a pair together here very soon! I’m seeing great results from these amplifiers! Also the amps are pretty much identical after checking the guys! to the dc 3.5k crescendos bc3500 I believe it is as well as the sundown 3.5k...so I feel like these amps are right up your alley!

Yeah it looks bad for Soundstream to not reach the implied rms output but to get that kind of power for that price is pretty good for budget minded buyers. Regardless of it not reaching its numbers it's still a good amplifier in my opinion.
