In our shop, the DEWALT FlexVolt Recip Saw is mostly used for metal. The DEWALT Recip Saws one major flaw! None of the saws have an orbital mode so they can be slower at cutting large wooded objects.
DEWALT has been saying that the Power Detect and Flexvolt Advantage tools are built to accept more power from the larger batteries. With the FlexVolt Advantage Recip Saw, we wonder why one would want to opt for less power out of the same sized saw. Why not just buy the FlexVolt?
We pushed these saws to show a power difference. While taking things to an extreme, one of the blades broke making for a close call! Do not use saws like this!

Why don’t you set a table up to put the tools on so they so fall.
This has sort of been the running joke for a while so I keep it going. We don't have to drop test many items this way. I edited out the parts of me throwing the recip saws on the ground after use. I guess it is what I expect tools to handle without issue.
Let me catch someone throwing shit!
@@pointedspider Buy tools that have rafter hooks and you won't be in that situation. 😂
@@WorkshopAddict But it's not a joke anymore. It's honestly really annoying. I've been watching your channel since the beginning and these videos are the ONLY videos that piss me off.
*A great tool **MyBest.Tools** compact & powerful.*
Must be nice to get free tools to throw around lol
4:57 ...DAM... You must be king of flipping water bottles
That was pretty amazing.
do you throw all your tools like that?
This test is definitely drop test 👍 3:03 🤨
If you want no variables like knots, try doing the tests on some 1/4” aluminum tube, uniform all the way through and no big variables. Thanks for all your content
I was dead set on the Power Detect tools because of the 20v batteries, BUT , HD has a fantastic deal on the FlexVolt Advantage tools and I couldn't pass it up so I got the FA reciprocating saw and it came with a Free 6.0ah FlexVolt battery and 6amp charger for $199 , it's a Great Deal ....👍👊🖖
Can't believe dewalt came out with a new recip saw that has no orbital action... not even a rafter hook lol.
With the holiday promos I’m torn between Dewalt FA and Milwaukee Super Sawzall
@@YesImhymn the super sawzall is crazy huge and unwieldy... It's a good recip saw but the size is why it never caught popularity. The dewalt flexvolt advantage will serve you great!
@@free2chasehappy what is with Milwaukee and their giant tools. Have you seen their jigsaw? It’s ridiculously big for what it is.
@@YesImhymn I don't have the slightest idea. Haha. I love their M12 line of tools. 18-20V tools, I always go for dewalt or makita.
Man you needed some new blades bad. Seems like your getting a little sloppy looking for new content. Your struggling to even find words for some of the video. It might be worth not uploading as much and take the time to do things right and make the video clean. I can appreciate the "behind the scenes" type of thing showing the mistakes to a degree but it would be nice to just have a well put together video of the testing and talking like you use to do. Your dedication to putting out videos and getting some sort of result to show us is amazing though and no one can take that from ya.
My struggle to show everything and be honest conflicts with a smooth well flowing video that people accuse us a marketing for someone.
@@WorkshopAddict I like how your older videos where setup. You did the testing separate and kind of narrated what you did and what was going on.
That is good to know as I thought most people liked the more current video format. We constantly had people telling us how we were marketing for someone and were not being truthful. I switched up the way we shot and edited and it seemed to be better for everyone. This video was a mess. I get it. I had an audience and it did not help.
@@WorkshopAddict I get it. It has to be hard trying to figure out what makes more people happy. Just because I like it the other way doesn't mean shit lol. Your the one with all the followers so you do you man. I'm just some schmuck that watches to many videos lol.
You are the second subscriber to say that in this video. From my end, it is hard to know what people want. You watch a ton of videos, so your opinion matters. I would love to pick your brain, maybe here is not the right place. I need someone who can be brutally honest with me.
Great review as always, to bad the Dewalt didn't put a rafter hook on the new model, like I did on the FLEXVOL reciprocating saw, but I am am saying they didn't put a rafter hook on the circular saw like I did where all they had to do was to put the rafter hook on the front handler, not to make another mold for the carcase.
Thanks again for your efforts and time allocate to educate , if not to many at list me, myself and I.
Damn? U don't like tools do u!?!?
These are supposed to be pro tools that anyone from a carpenter to an excavator will use. Do you think an excavator carries these out of holes? No, they throw them.
Great content, as always!!! Consider timing an entire set of cuts, such as 5 cuts through the 2x6. It will minimize the effect of the stopwatch starting/stopping error. Longer time is better for comparisons.
I really like when you do dewalt videos because all my tools are dewalt BUT theres one thing i saw that just for some reason it drop my heart when you threw the saw to the ground just like that hard but still great videos you do
I have the original dewalt flexvolt sawzall. No need to upgrade I hardly use it but it's a great saw!
Please stop dropping the tools.
So you don't want me to test them and use them like contractors would?
If I saw a contractor repeatedly dropping his tools like this, I wouldn't let him near my house.
Intentionally tossing the tools on the ground like that is unprofessional. I'm sure I'm not the only one that was annoyed by that.
Interesting at 4:59, tossed tool aside onto floor to grab another and it bounces back upright and just stays there.
8:12 I could not stop laughing 🤣🤣🤣
It was so hard to watch this with the tools and batteries being dropped carelessly. I understand these tools are built to be durable but not showing any care for the tools just frustrating & upsetting. If he is doing tool reviews he should have a table setup to rest the tools on instead of just throwing on floor or vibrating off.
I think you're right, the form factor alone if you ignore the price tag is a burden, so you might as well get the best version of the tool possible. Carrying, and storing tools is also a factor for every organized tradesman.
I got the advantage version the other day just because it came with free 6ah fv battery and charger vs getting the 60v for the same price and having to buy a battery/charger separately.
The fv model eats fv batteries like candy anyways. Nice to be able to add the power when you need it and not run through the battery in no ti e for a non noticeable speed difference
This was painful to watch. Do u even edit, bro??
As a DIY'er, I am going with the FA.
I already have 1 FV battery (6Ah) and 5 regular 20v batteries (2 - 2AH, 2 - 4AH and 1 6AH). I will start projects with the FV battery (when using FA tools), and can switch to the non-FA batteries while recharging the FV.
If I went with the FV tool, I would either need to shell out more money for another battery or sit around waiting for the FV battery to recharge.
7:06 it's impossible to watch!!!!!
Men.., you need to be more careful with this tools.
First...love the videos
Is it just me or did i see one of the recip saw that was thrown on the floor bounce to land on its head straight up.
4:58 sawzall flip lol
2020. still no rafter hook or belt hook.
It has not been that great of a year, huh.
@@WorkshopAddict well we got given the flexvolt dcs579 with a rafter hook so it aint been all bad
So the moral of the story: "It's not YOU, it's ME."
Said the wood to the saw.
Thanks for the content!!!
The point to throwing it down.?.?.?
Thanks for taking in to consideration what your fans ask for you guys to do next. Great video! Awesome reviews
Trick shot at 4:59
What are the odds?
Im surprised you havent gone out and chopped down a couple of threes to use considering the price of lumber.
The one thing i was really wondering is .... Does the flexvolt advantage give you the power boost .....while still maintaining the extended battery life that other 20 volt tools experience when using flexvolt batteries
Yes
Great Video , I see we're on the same page when it comes to if you're going to buy a FlexVolt battery , just go with the 60v FlexVolt and get All the Power ... That said , you know what I'm going to say now , how about FlexVolt Advantage vs Power Detect .....👍👊🖖
I believe we proved the FA to win over the PD in the drill videos IF and only if you use FV batteries. It really depends on if you have FV batts or not as to what one to buy. If you are a 20-volt guy, forst buy the cheaper model or go PD
What about cost difference.... Isn't the flex volt advantage priced more inline with 20 volt options... I know with the circular saw the flex volt is significantly more expensive...
The PD, XR and FA are all priced almost the same. The battery package is what changes the price
@@WorkshopAddict Home Depot has a deal right now when you buy a bare tool 60V advantage, ($200 for the reciprocating saw) you get a free 6ah flex volt battery and charger. ($180 value) Hard to beat that so I snagged one.
He bottle flip his saw 😂
why u throw the recip saw
New subscriber here. From what I've seen so far, I think your obvious placement/dropping of tools is a hilarious cry out to Dewalt to get the rafter hook already. Now, I cringe everytime I see your saw or battery hit the floor. But I appreciate you pointing out the obvious need for a rafter hook lol. Come on Dewalt!!
Im fine with my super sawzall, thanks.
Good choice!
You do have to admit that the Flexvolt Advantage looks cooler, unfortunately.
I think you found Satan's knot
Always wear nice leather gloves (and safety glasses) when using these things. That blade break is a classic example of why
Thanks for the review
Good video😊. You make a good point about those of us already having flexvolt battery. It seems like a waste to buy a big saw that only partially reaches the full potential of the flexvolt, when you could buy the compact xr version that is so much more convenient for tight spaces. You won't get the full advantage of either if you choose flexvolt advantage.
Also where the frig is the rafter hook already!? I'm so tired of digging through piles of rubble to find my stinking saw. All my other dewalt tools have some method of suspending them out of the way of my destruction, except for the one that's notorious for causing the most chaos!
Sounds like DeWalt is going the way of GPUs as far as names, skus, & marketing...HUH😉
Yep, seems a tad convoluted, but hey...could be wrong😁
they both lose cause they still dont have rafter hooks; as you can tell by him just tossing it on the ground and praying it doesnt fall off the saw horse
great work keep it up
Have you found a difference in power between the 6AH and 9AH FlexVolt batteries? I understand runtime will be very different but most of the kits I'm looking into come with the 6Ah battery and not the 9AH.
He dropped the saw and it stood straight up like a gen-z with a water bottle!
I had to bust out crying in laughter when he threw that thing 😂 I don’t know what he thought was going on
4:59 😄
If I saw my tool like this, what a fucking guy. If not mine, 👍
Trouble with the knot from hell love throws the tools out the window
Руки бы оторвал этому тестировщику за такое обращение с инструментом!
theres a reason why i ditched my recip; just not having the ability to maximize its use; i simply dont need it and even so doesnt fit a lot of occupations or tasks
Yeah, I only care about one-handed recips.
Way to much pressure your putting down on the blade. Let the tool do the work
We talked about how we are testing these for power and going to try to stall them.. AND also how no one should ever use a tool like that.
Not very scientific
Nice job god bless
Just a suggestion: I know you’re crazy Liberal Governor has instituted dystopian-like restrictions in your state, but purchase brand new blades for each saw you test so you don’t have to keep switching blades. All that smoke ain’t from a knot that’s from an old worn out blade! Those Recip saws should be eating through that wood like butter but can’t because the blades are dull. Either way, thanks Brian your efforts are always appreciated!
I appreciate your comment and I will work on it. all the blades used were sharp, but that 6x6 had more sap in it than you could imagine and gummed things up quick.
@Treeboss Mike ...What the Hell does the Governor have to do with this video! You people are real idiots. Haven't you read the words of your Creator...... the one who was gracious enough to give your sorry ass life.. " and a house divided against a house falleth." But of course you're smarter than God with your " red vs blue" BS. A heart full of hate...
Just couldn't resist bringing politics into a tool video could you.
I stop read your comment right after I saw “you’re crazy governor” lol what a joke
շատ լավ
M18 Fuel Super Sawzall for the win. It’ll eat either one of those Dewalts alive. Not only do super sawzalls have an orbital option, they’re also variable speed. Not to mention no battery confusion, straight M18.
There is no comparison.
