I graduated in 1981 what a time to be a teenager. I miss those years 😢. People would dress up and the ladies didn't need to put tattoos all over them selves. Just natural beauty. No talking on the cell phones instead talking to each other . Having conversations . It was a simpler time back then. I miss the 80s.

Sneaker's 2nd album "Loose In The World" (January 1983) did NOT chart in Billboard Album Chart & the 45 single song "Believe Me Tonight" also did not chart in Billboard. They disbanded in late 1983 or early 1984. I also have all the Japan CD imports of their debut, "Loose In The World" (both albums on CD with bonus tracks NOT found on iTunes), also "Early On" (collection of demos & unreleased tracks), "The Unreleased Demos" (found on iTunes) & "Live In Japan" (1983 concert)!! Sneaker's success IMO can be accounted to the then-program director of WNBC (66 AM) in New York who as I remember was known to have a very conservative playlist whom Howard Stern referred to as "Pig Vomit" in his 1995 autobiographical motion picture "Private Parts" (based on his book that came out a year earlier and where that PD was otherwise known as "Kenny"). "More Than Just The Two Of Us" got excessive airplay on WNBC and very little airplay on any other station in NYC (at a time NYC had no legitimate Top 40 station as WABC was in its final days as a music station before going Talk on May 10, 1982 and the closest was actually WYNY-FM (97.1) that was really Adult Contemporary) and basically got to #34 on the national charts almost entirely because of the excessive airplay it got on WNBC (it did get played on stations elsewhere as well,. but NOT to the extent it was played on WNBC). Where this was really notable was WNBC's year-end survey for 1982 where that song for the year was well ahead of The Human League's "Don't You Want Me" that was a #1 song nationally.

Dick Clark was geniu$. Interesting that the show became more inclusive. It's amazing how bad the fashions were, the guys are so effeminate, and there was only one (1) obese person on the set...Love the commercials. I loved the 80s.

There was only one obese person because they were rare, not like today with over 60 percent of young people being overweight or obese. The fashions? They were awesome in the 80’s. You must be a millennial.

I wonder whatever became of that obese dancer? I remember seeing him on the promos for VH-1s reruns.

@almad It's weird. I was a Teen in the 70s, and whenever I see pics of myself and other people from that time, I cringe big time! I can't believe we thought the clothes and hairstyles we wore back then looked good to us. But at the time we did for some reason. But looking back, I think the 70s were a fashion disaster decade. 😊

Was Del Shannon a popular musician among the young people (like high school and college kids) back in 1982? I figured he would have been a popular act for people in their late 20's to 30's at the time.

I think if you talk about true icons dick Clark would be in conversation because American bandstand is the best place to be for the best of the 80,s

The early 80s seems to have been a big time for remakes and redos. Stars on 45 had a hit with a song that had sections of songs from "Venus" by the Shocking Blue, the "Sugar Sugar" by the Archies, then songs by the Beatles all joined by hand clapping. Larry Elgart had a danceable remake of songs from the big band era with a backbeat of hand clapping called "Hooked on Swing". Not to be topped by those were the Spinners with "Cupid/I've Loved You For A Long Time", Van Halen with Roy Orbison's "Pretty Woman". So many remakes in the 1980s were of songs popular in the 1960s and 1970s: "Angel of the Morning" - Juice Newton, "I Want Candy" - Bow Wow Wow, "Bette Davis Eyes" - Kim Carnes, "The Tide Is High" - Blondie, "Harlem Shuffle" - Rolling Stones and a bunch more.

I definitely like Diana’s cover of “Why Do Fools Fall in Love” more than the original. Maybe it’s because I was alive in the early ‘80’s but not the ‘50’s.
