Shutter island is just an incredible film. There is a lot in the film and the ending was perfection. It was actually pretty obvious on the second watch.
@@5minpasta In Short, Teddy Daniels is actually Andrew Laeddis, the sixty-seventh patient on Shutter Island who got there for killing his wife because of her having murdered their children because of her insanity. Andrew couldn't cope with his guilt and loss of his children and wife and created a false identity of Teddy Daniels, a marshal investigating a case. In the end he does return to reality but prefers to not live a conscious life and makes the doctors think he's still insane to get lobotomy and sort of "die", because really, lobotomy destroys one's personality, and you can definitely say that a person with no personality is a dead person.
yh, just the fact that for some reason his wifes killer was on the island, the patient who gave him the info was on the island and he by pure chance just had the opportunity to investigate the island was just way too good to be true. definitely sounds delusional
One thing I don't get is why he was committed to that island considering his crime...I mean, he killed his wife because she murdered their children. Not the craziest thing to do in my opinion... obviously he needed to be in prison, but to be sent to an island for the WORST and most violent criminals seems extreme to me. I realize this is aside the point to the plot and I really love this movie, but I didn't really get that
@@jaredcraver3898 yes I see what you mean, I would have though that him killing his wife and holding his dead kids is the source of his mental breakdown thus the need for a mental hospital. the murder in itself wasn't the reason he was put on shutter island. just an opinion though not to say I'm right.
Hell yeah. Leo DiCaprio. I wonder if he would date regular girls like us who aren't famous. Tell me your opinions guys. I'd love to marry him. Hell hottest dude of all time. He's gorgeous and stunning handsome sexy beast. I love u Leo Wilhelm DiCaprio. Sexy beast 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙👫👫👪💑💏
ComedyFaker The twist is that he is the #67 patient that he was originally looking for, its actually him. But it all comes down to how u interpret it :P
People do not understand that this movie has a multiple ending which is two or more endings to a movie, it ended however the viewer wanted it to end, there is no definitive answer, there never can be. It is what the viewer decides it is.
I am so grateful that I got to visit Medfield State Hospital where it was filmed, I went inside and everything in 2015 when I was 15. Now I’m 21 and I just saw this movie last week and I can’t stop watching it. I can’t believe I was there
i would watch leonardo read a shopping list. he is a beautiful, brilliant, ultra talented actor and the Academy are a bunch of jealous queens. Leo is flawless.
I slept in a private room at the former Bellevue Psychiatric Hospital in Manhattan in late October of 2010. I had a dream that night that looked and felt like an excerpt from JACOB'S LADDER. That film was apparently well informed by source material from actual patients.
I see a strange amount of calm in him. A weird humility which is hard to believe in its core. Maybe that's what makes him great. The thing that he is this very composed and sorted man who can turn out into being anything. Someone so humble that it's hard to digest he is the same man doing all those things he had done in his movies...
@StarLightFactory no he is not reading off a card. that's just the direction his eyes go when he thinks. everybody has one. and the eyes move a bit too while you are thinking. it's totally normal
This film still confuses me! Not sure i understand it completely but Leo was and is just amazing! The film is fantastic! Leo should have his oscar by now!
It's pretty simple. The asylum is attempting to rehabilitate him by letting him live out his detective fantasy (his personality is brought on by dissasociation from not accepting his past traumas). They feel they can help him discover who he is by putting the truth at the center of his made up mystery. They are all putting on a show for him. At the end, he accepts that he isn't teddy Daniels and is in fact Andrew Laedis. They tell him they broke through nine months earlier, but that over time, he regressed to teddy. This is the last hail Mary attempt, where he'll be lobotomized if it's unsuccessful (hes too violent and unpredictable as Teddy) at the end, Teddy/Andrew knows that he's not teddy but gives the impression the treatment was unsuccessful. Why? Because he doesn't want to live with the truth and chooses to be lobotomized.
the ONLY interviewer at ET whom I actually think is great at their job... Edit: also I felt like the interviewer rlly did not wanna ask the last question but like his boss made him do it
@StarLightFactory Lol that's just the way your eyes move when you try to relate your memories...it's a brain thing, called microexpressions. You'll notice his eyes move down and to the left often...that means he's remembering feelings. Sometimes he looks directly to his left, which probably means that he's remembering sounds (like when he talks about reciting lines amidst all the elements). Everyone does it.
@hilsnchad lol it's true he does. The truth is that we all have types that we date. Some people only date athlete's, businessmen, bad boys, the "good" girls, etc. I guess that's just his type of woman. Plus she probably can relate to a lot of his life. Living in the press, having to travel of lot, and a lot of other things. But, that's just my opinion. :)
He's not reading anything, why would you even suggest he's reading off a card? I take it you've never been interviewed a 1000x's so you wouldn't possibly believe how boring it is to this guy to just sit there like he's enjoying it. There are probably a bunch of people in that room and he may be preoccupied with something else but he definitely ain't reading it!
In the ending, he knew he is Andrew, he said : "live as a monster or die as a good man", he means "live as the monster named Andrew or die as the good man named Daniel, he didnt want to be a monster, to be Andrew, he want to die, he want to be Daniel, thats the point ! Lester Sheehan got it, he knew that Andrew knew he is Andrew and he wanted to die
I didn't like it too, i was deeply into that hero shit, you know like him saving everyone. But his last setence "live as a monster or die as a good man" made me quite pleased.

His hair deserves an oscar
great hair he has
Scorsese's most underrated movie IMO...
Definitely, Inception overshadowed it but this was better imo
The King of Comedy
GIVE THIS MAN A GOD DAMN OSCAR ALREADY. HE MORE THAN DESERVES IT.
That's like saying "give the eagle an award for flying". Fuck that award, he's clearly above any of them
It’s insane to think that you commented this over eight years ago. I don’t know why, but it makes me sad.
Leo is a very striking looking young man, gorgeous eyes.
i love him so much

Αριστεα Νουρκάι shot her island

why in the beginning did he have to exaggerate that leo was "wet" in his movies. leo just like uncomfortably laughs.
I finally tried to understand on my 3rd time watching Shutter Island. It freaking blew my mind when I understood it. Must watch.

It must be the hair. I'm jealous of his hair.
You’re so humble!! You “forgot” to mention the Italian roots you share in common with Signore Filmmaker!!

Incorrect. It has a very definite ending. Scorcese, Ben Kingsley and Leo have all confirmed this in various interviews.

This film was so good because we all knew the twist in the trailer, he was the missing patient. But the journey of how we got there was so Scorsese
