I watched this on a plane, and after i finished it, i walked into the plane bathroom and stared at myself in the mirror for like a full minute and half wondering if i'm real. Greatest movie of all time hands down. DiCaprio is a god.
it’s easy to say this but you have to look at the competition that year also, sometimes you can have a great role but get unlucky and be in the same role as someone who had an even greater one
This film is a masterpiece. A great study on mental illness. It gives the viewer a first person account on what it's like to be a person with a severe mental illness, in the broadest sense of the word. There is so much that we don't understand about how our minds work. How astoundingly complex and intricate the mind works and tries to fix itself.... This film ties this together. We don't know what is real and what isn't and this film makes us contemplate this, and this is why the film is so scary, and such a beautiful mindfuck. The lighthouse in the fog at the very end was the perfect symbol, but it's only a lighthouse to what we consider "normal." The fog is the only thing that is real.
He also had that laugh in Titanic too. When they escape one of the officers and Rose tells him she wants to leave with him when then reach the destination. I noticed his laugh when I watched it in the theaters more than 15 years ago and thought it was great too.
Jacob Aframian Not promoted enough I believe and also most critics/audiences thought the obvious twist was a M N shyamalan copy. Coz you know Scorsese needs to do that
I know it's shocking Leo only just got an Oscar this year!! This movie was so good. I first saw it when it came out and then I just watched it this week and it's amazing. Being older I understand it a lot more too now. It really is brilliant. Be a great movie to study at school
what a nice interview , both were happy with the result , and wow Leo donating a million dollars to the disaster relief, pft what a guy and generous soul.
Douglas Crets what makes you think that? It's hard to discuss it without spoiling it because the first part of the movie is extremely plain and simple but as you move along it fucks up your heard
I watched this movie last year when I was doing my honours and I am still watching it, this is one of the best, check it when he says “ Crazy people are a perfect subject, they talk and nobody listens”😢
At 1:20 you notice how he says “past traumas” and not “reality”. The way he put that in the way he wants us to really think is that really what happened or is he actually Teddy and not Andrew. The fact that this man has ONE OSCAR absolutely blows me away
The way the difference project that him and Scorsese were going to do was wolf of Wall Street these two movies couldn’t be more different if they tried
Leo is just a smart person..why he should get married and waste money seeing how all the relationships go in that environment..hardly you get a person for love when you are an actor and they know it
Crazy how the other project that “fell through” at the time was the wolf of Wall Street, and that the leo in this movie has no idea that the movie will eventually get made!
I am from India..and Love Leo..ever since I was 11. But the fact is also that he dosent love Indians much.. may be he feels we are not as rich as him...
If I tried to talk to him, I'd hyperventilate. No way I could keep myself from squealing like a school girl. I'd have him sign my wrist, then I'd hi him, then go to a tattoo shop to get his signature tattooed on. Oh yes, I have it all worked out.
I love that movie too he got out of the roles always lover romantic , the story is little sad I the hospital the crew aginst the pationt & the eand wasn't clear they left it open but on his interview he is good taker and personality
You are right and thanks for overlooking my bad grammar. I was cooky when i wrote that comment since then i watched it 2 times and every thing looked so obvious. :) your not alone having to think on it. And i did watch a lot of explenations to so that comment is silly. Thanks for responding :)
He just keeps getting better looking everyday. I watched the movie and then went and got the DVD and each time I watched it I saw things I hadn't seen before.. Two years ago I was put on prednisone. Well they forgot I was on it when it I mentioned it a year later. I started hallucinating and I thought worms were coming out of my face. I was telling my doctor when this nurse came in and started asking me things like " do you hear voices?", "are they telling you to hurt yourself or others?" Then she says she wanted me to go to mental health. I said "I am not going there or anywhere else." The medicine finally wore off and the worms were no more. The nurse apologised to me after the doctor told her what happened. It was kind of scary, because anyone can be put away.
Connie Crawford Did the doctor and nurse have a sort of German accent? Did you pick up a nazi vibe? Also notice any men in black suits looking American government agent types?
Connie Crawford I’m not judging Connie believe me. How could I? It’s more the movie you e used to express your experience. Yes shutter island is fictional but contains historical acts (operation paperclip) look it up May I ask.... To me reading your story the nurse sounded like a bitch like nurse ratchet
if i was the interviewer i would have trouble talking to leo becuse at frist i would hypervinlite but after awlie i would talk to him like i was talking to one of my friends or my mum or dad!
I met him in person i thought i was going to cry my eyes out but i was actually very calm mainly because HE was VERY calm. I just said Leo and said thank you for coming to Toronto you are one of my favourite actors. And he was like thank you for coming. I nearly died.
Shutter island is highly underrated. the more times you watch it, the more you realize how brilliant the writing is
+theAbeElement totally agree...amazing movie
+theAbeElement
we have to praise the book's author. amazing plot.
very true!
+Cox Tarren I think it's more the way it is sold that does trick.
A MENTIRA HONESTA
touche... you're probably right!

GB 211 I watched it on a plane and didn’t sleep for the rest of the flight because I was still so shaken up about it
GB 211
You need more friends
GB 211 you must’ve smoked crack before the flight
Mapleheads you don’t actually know me :(
@@Mapleheads stop being a bully
This movie is so underrated.. One of leo's best films imo.
Very
It's a little surprising he didn't get an Oscar for that role > His performance was phenomenal >> Great story and outstanding ending
Fatima Kassem it's a big surprise to me
Fatima Kassem at least we know the low level of Oscar member is
Totally agree. How can he not get an oscar for this? I don't understand either.
it’s easy to say this but you have to look at the competition that year also, sometimes you can have a great role but get unlucky and be in the same role as someone who had an even greater one
The reason he didn't get an Oscar is because none of his co-stars were women, or a minority. (Excluding his wife)
He did Shutter island and Inception in 2010 and still didnt bag an oscar SMH
lil car crash bruh who beat him??? That’s messed up
Right
Really goes to show how the oscars are mainly political instead of merit based.
Who’s watching 10 years from then😂😂
Meee loool😂😂
Me
Me
Me lmao I’m waiting for some interviewer to ask him
me lol
This movie fucked me up. I adore both Ruffalo and DiCaprio endlessly, just great. Not talked about enough.
Yeah, "The Encounter" is a better 2010 film ;-)

Completely agree
+stevehd111 say thanks to the author of the book. i never encountered a plot as unique as my entire life..
mason clinic is the true shutter island in auckland city. new zealand.''
his laugh at 5:44...so precious. I cant get enough of this guy. He too fine
He also had that laugh in Titanic too. When they escape one of the officers and Rose tells him she wants to leave with him when then reach the destination.

The best actor of all time
People don’t realize how good this movie is! It is an underrated film in Leonardo DiCaprio’s career! As well as Martin Scorsese’s career!
Jacob Aframian
Not promoted enough I believe and also most critics/audiences thought the obvious twist was a M N shyamalan copy.
Coz you know Scorsese needs to do that
All his movie are good
Yes. So true. Even the movies that he's a supporting actor are good too. He's the best.

that's due to his german genetics. you're welcome, world!
Naah , but hey anyways , germans will never be as great as Italians :*
Actually, he is italian, german and russian 😬 He had two russian grandparents!

He's so beautiful
I saw it yesterday the first time and I was shocked and spellbound and fascinated for the next few hours after finishing.
id do anything to watch it again for the first time. was completely blown away
This movie is phenomenal. Just watched it again with my wife. Leonardo should have won an academy award for this one.
She never saw the film.
Douglas Crets what makes you think that? It's hard to discuss it without spoiling it because the first part of the movie is extremely plain and simple but as you move along it fucks up your heard
Good thing too
One of his best work
When he laughed it sounded like he did in Whats Eating Gilbert Grape!
I watched this movie last year when I was doing my honours and I am still watching it, this is one of the best, check it when he says “ Crazy people are a perfect subject, they talk and nobody listens”😢
Oh God, what an incredible film! My second fave one by Leo! I absolutely love watching him being interviewed💕
I feel like he was born to won Oscars for every movie he do
Max Van Sydow always brings a certain quality even to his cameo appearances, may he rest in peace.
this movie fucked me up so bad
He's such a nice guy, lol. Like he's real easy to talk to and joke around with.
At 1:20 you notice how he says “past traumas” and not “reality”. The way he put that in the way he wants us to really think is that really what happened or is he actually Teddy and not Andrew. The fact that this man has ONE OSCAR absolutely blows me away
should've won an oscar for directing and acting, such a fucking underrated masterpiece
She should have called him ^Andrew^ to make that Interview more interesting
5:40 It's been another ten years Leo
Love you Leo ... I love you for more than 20 years ^-*
The way the difference project that him and Scorsese were going to do was wolf of Wall Street these two movies couldn’t be more different if they tried

It’s ten years later leo :’)
Honest question, why hasnt he won an Oscar?
So much respect for this bloke.
Leo is just a smart person..why he should get married and waste money seeing how all the relationships go in that environment..hardly you get a person for love when you are an actor and they know it
One of my fav movie
Interesting how someone who has never seemed to feel true love can emulate it so well
*sighs* oh Leo 😍😍😍😍
best actor ever
AWWWWWWWWWWW at the like 6 min mark when she's like OMG NO IM SO SRY I DIDNT MEAN TO GET PERSONAL and he's like nahhhh its all good

I don't know why. But It's one of the films that I can watch once and every week and I watch this once a week
God I love him
If I tried to talk to him, I'd hyperventilate. No way I could keep myself from squealing like a school girl. I'd have him sign my wrist, then I'd hi him, then go to a tattoo shop to get his signature tattooed on. Oh yes, I have it all worked out.

I’m not judging Connie believe me.

To me reading your story the nurse sounded like a bitch like nurse ratchet

Also I must say the drug you were taking Does not make you hallucinate.
Shutter island was the best!

Yup it was for TIFF 2016. He was great. It was insane though. Lol. My friends saw him drunk at night and he said hi to them from his car. lol
I thought the movie was great...at the end everything was coming together, and the movie leaves some unanswered questions that kept me thinking about.
So 10 years passed... Ask him again
Martin best director of the century
Nolan and Martin,without any doubt
Every time i look at him all i see is jack dawson
Leo had to get mauled by a bear to get a damn Oscar
