My favorite airfix memory was building my first model plane, I randomly decided one day to pick up an airfix bf109 starter kit. I had a blast building and hand painting it with a brush, simpler times. Looking back it was very rough and not my best work, but that’s not what matters. I had a great time and it helped me grow in the hobby, and enjoy modeling more. I still have it on my shelf, and I will never get rid of it or repaint it. A reminder of how far I have come.
What an inspired comment. Thank you. The joy in this hobby is absolutely about the process and the journey. You have 💯 nailed it! Thanks for sharing 🙏🕺🏽
My favourite airfix memory was only a few years when I first started modeling and my daughter was six years old. She went to my local hobby store in Brissy and with very serious studying of what was available at the store picked my birthday present. It was a Airfix Canadair Sabre. It was also my first airfix kit.
Airfix Memory for me was, back in the day, building as many of their WW1 kits as I could find. Never really mastered getting the upper wings straight, but built them nevertheless.
Hey John - As long as you enjoyed them that is all that matters. Modelling is a constant journey toward mastery and being able to find peace in the process. Such a beautiful hobby. Thanks for taking the time to connect 🪄
My Airfix memory is building their Supermarine S6B and painting it with housepaint! - heady days! I now have one in my stash (in plastic bag) and continually agonise over ‘to build or not to build’!!
My favourite Airfix memory is the 1/72 Bristol Blenheim which was a Christmas present as it happened to be my favourite plane at the time...thanks to a story in a Commando comic!
I never liked the Blenheim…until I built one. Now I love it. I’ve seen some really beautiful builds of their 1/48 release. I’d like to build that scale one day. Thanks for joining in 🙏
I have this kit in my stash. So thanks for the heads up about any issues I may encounter assembling it. Looking forward to the up coming videos concerning this kit.
Great seeing you build and aircraft, something we have not den on here before :) My favourite airfix memory would have to be building their 1/48 Ju-87 Stuka. It was the first aircraft I built in 3 years time, so it was a true experience. That thing began my aircraft building phase, so it is something I will always remember.
@@workbenchhobbies4316 Can't wait to see you build it! About my main genre, I have built armour kits for the past 3 years, and continue to do so. However, I also enjoy building aircraft to keep things a little different from time to time. As you said, it is nice to switch things up to keep it interesting :)
Really impressed with your work, I will be a returning viewer in the future. My favourite Airfix Memory is receiving a 1:72 Bf109 from Santa on Christmas morning and having it built and painted by dinner time when I was 10. I miss the days when I could build and paint a model in a day.
Thank you. I’m glad you found the channel. Those memories of simpler times are so appealing aren’t they. I miss them too. Be sure to join in again soon. 🍺👍
Airfix Memory the 1/24 Spitfire mk1a stands out to me. Had this kit for my 15th birthday many many years ago. I really enjoy your channel and your work.
Thanks Alan. I appreciate your kind words. Those aging memories are so precious aren’t they? Good luck with the competition. Thanks for sharing your memories 🙏👍
My airfix memory is building a simple spitfire mk1 in 1/72. It's was my first time using an airbrush to paint the cammo. I thought it came out pretty good. My wife actually wanted it so I gave it to her!
It does build up into a very nice kit. I love all the different options it has. I just have to paint it up. I haven’t finished many kits this is probably my 4th kit so I definitely made multiple mistakes. But it was a lot of fun to build so far.
"Airfix memory". I remember the first time I bought an Airfix kit. I was around 11 years old and back then the only kits that got to the few distributors in my country were old Revell kits, so when I saw that Airfix 72nd Gladiator it was like a dream come true. For me Airfix represented top quality models, I had only seen them on the internet. I was so scared to build it that I left it on the shelf for many years and only in 2022 I was brave enough to give it a go. It's one of my favorite models I've built.
What a fantastic memory. It’s funny how we create boundaries for ourselves around when we should and shouldn’t build kits. Glad to hear you had a go and it worked out well for you. Congratulations 🥂
A very early Airfix memory is when I was about seven years old, many decades ago, sitting at the dining table as my Dad showed me how to build the Boeing Clipper.
Ooohhh! Nice! One of the things I love about this hobby is the history and stories that are attached to the subjects…and the Dambusters story ticks all the boxes! Good luck 🍀🧧
My favourite Airfix memory is my first kit! The infamous P-51D Mustang. Looking back now, I don't know how I managed to build it with only super glue and a kitchen knife!😂😂😂 Love the video mate!👍👍
Oh wow - the kitchen knife and super glue?! Thats hilarious! Its funny looking back on the things we used to use and not give it a second thought. So good. Thanks for your entry and good luck 🤞
My Airfix Memeory is not really happy but taught me lots, I was in junior school, I saved up for a “huge kit” an Airfix 1/72 Handley Page, bought said model, took home and rushed to make it, made the biggest mess of the wings, trying to align all the struts, oh my, hounest I cried, anyway lesson learn't that I had lots to learn ( 70's hence books at Library), I planned the build sequence of future models, learnt the plans wearn't always perfect in those days, well thanks for the channel, regards 😃
What an epic memory. I’m sorry it didn’t work out, but sometimes the lesson is the gold in the process, and it sounds like you at least took that away from the experience. I’m sure you are not alone in butchering an expensive kit. I’m guilty as charged ☝️🕺🏽🤫
My first Airfix encounter was in a large discount store in Minneapolis ca. 1957 at age 8. Upon entering the store I immediately went in search of the toy section, yep that's where the models were. I was shocked when I saw the Airfix kit display. There were maybe five columns by 10 rows of 1/72 models! At that time the kits came in a plastic bag with a cardboard hanger stapled to the top. The interesting thing I remember was the price: 29 cents each!! I know I bought three of them because I had a whole dollar to spend. Ah yes those were the days.
Hi Thomas! Wow.. thats a great memory. If only they were 29c now! Thanks for sharing. (ALSO - do yourself a favour and edit the comment to include 'Airfix Memory' otherwise the filter wont pick your ebtry up when it comes time to draw the winner)
My favorite Airfix Memory is when my Dad would buy me the 1/72 kits that came in a bag! I got my grubby little hands on them and put one together in about 30 seconds! Good times!!!😆
Airfix was my first! She started my modelling passion whit a simpel Bf109 i still have to this day :D it wasnt pretty and is still in her unpainted form but it is my fondest Airfix memory! Modelling memory in general haha! :D
It´s is difficult to pick a favorite Airfix memory. Wide selection of cheap kits, mixed quality of those early kits, but I had a lot of those on my shelf. One really cool memory was when a few years ago James May built a 1:1 Airfix Spitfire on a tv show, and tried to get modern day kids to build plastic models.
Airfix Memory, my first Airfix kit was a hurricane when I was 8, 55 years ago! Badly painted with oil paints from a paint by numbers kit. Took weeks to dry
Hello Steve ! Sounds like a pretty awesome memory to me! I can still smell the fumes in the room! Good Luck and thanks for taking the time to comment 🙏
Use it or lose it is so true. I've been away from my bench since 2016 and am just getting back in. I almost feel like I'm starting over! Just found your channel and I have to say I love your content and presentation. Thanks for the inspiration, mate!
My airfix memory, aged 4 dad buys a 72 scale spitfire I put it together with tube glue + lots of finger prints then put the transfers on followed by a very light gloss green, for a 4 year old I remember it being a master piece😂.
My Airfix memory is being my first plastic model bought ever! The well known bagged Messerschmitt Me Bf 109G-6 in 1/72 scale. I bought the kit myself and was allowed by my father (as I was 15 then) to also by some jars of paint on his account. We raced home so I could start building. Many Aircraft kits followed, I am 70 know!! Still building though
Hello Fred - What precious memories. Its so special we can connect kits and experiences back to our parents like that isn't it? Thanks so much for sharing that special time with the me 🙏
Great build video! My favorite Airfix memory is when I built the 1/72 Airfix A6M2b Zero kit. It was an enjoyable build and the first kit I built after being out of the hobby for decades. I decided to enter my first contest with it. It was the IPMS Nationals and I was completely amazed when it won 3rd place in the out-of-box category.
Airfix memory, yearning for a 1/24th scale kit, finally saved enough pocket money to get one the Messerschmitt 109 and then the Stuka, they seemed huge back then.
Thanks for the heads up. Well done and very informative. I really like the recently tooled 1/72 airfix kits. They are among the top 72nd kits available and give the buyer great value for money. These kits truly enhance my airfix memories ! :-) Cheers from Holland!
I really like when you bring variety to your channel and do different subjects not just armor. I am looking forward to how you tackle the painting of this kit. As for an Airfix memory I remember when I was a kid living in Germany in the 60's and I went to my friend's house and his brother was building an Airfix kit and painting it with Humbrol paints out of the tins. I always thought how great a modeler he was and the impression it left on me.
I have similar memories of my old school friends and being so in awe of their model. An old Red Arrows plane is always front of mind. It was probably a shocker but I recall it being amazing. Thanks for the encouragement re the varied subjects too. I was a little concerned people would only want armour. Guess we shall see how it goes 🤞 Thanks again for joining in 🙏
Nice work so far, mate. Just a couple of tips: rather than scraping or sanding paint off mating surfaces, just use a cotton bud dampened with a suitable thinner. This eliminates any potential risk of subtly changing or damaging the mating surfaces themselves. Secondly, for canopies and clear parts, try using an acrylic glue like that available from AMMO, which although it does dry fairly slowly, generally gives a much stronger bond than plain old PVA. And lastly, when rescribing lost panel lines across fuselage joins, you might find a photo-etched razor saw simplifies the job, and often eliminates the need for guide tape. Model on!
@@workbenchhobbies4316 photoetched JLC type saw are indeed awesome for rescribing. I use them along the Trumpeter "hobby line engraver", which is both the cheapest and the best line engraver I tried (I find it even slightly better than the Tamiya I also have), to get a perfect result.
Hi Clayton! This was a very good build video mate. I am not an aircraft modeller, although I loved the Airfix kits as a kid (a long, long time ago), but you have highlighted the complexity of some aircraft model kits, and what to be aware of. The same can be said for some armour kits, depending on the manufacturer, and noted that care and forethought is required when putting any kit together. When I look at some of the aircraft models on the competition table at some of the shows shown on Y/T, I am amazed at the detail that the modeller has put into his project. Way above my abilities, and something to really admire. Armour on the other hand does not seem to demand the same level of skill, in that we weather the model in a completely different way, and sometimes (in my case almost every model) we may be able to disguise our mistakes. Can’t wait to see the Me410 finished. Cheers for now mate!
hmm.. Ill have to disagree with you there Gary. I think armour does require the same 'level' of skill to execute well, but I would suggest it is a different set of skills that are required in each of the genres. I've seen high level aircraft modellers butcher armour, and vice versa. It all comes back to that muscle memory and being familiar with the tricks and hacks around the discipline. Do agree with you though that your errors can tend to be far more exposed with the winged thingies... Thanks for sharing your thoughts as always - C
@@workbenchhobbies4316 Thanks for the reply Clayton. I think that I worded my comment a bit clumsily. I did not mean armour modellers ‘drop their game’ a little when building a kit, or that building say, a Dragon kit with 500 plus parts, does not require the same skills as an aircraft kit with all it’s detail (how those guys don’t go crazy applying the myriad of decals that modern aircraft have, is beyond me), I merely meant that an average modeller like myself can sometimes recover from errors with, say, an application of some heavy weathering. I am not saying that we should accept that as OK, but In my opinion, that is something you can’t do with aircraft if you make an error. After all that, I think I will keep my feet (and tracks and wheels) on the ground, keep trying to improve my skills, and hopefully become confident enough to try all genres of our hobby. Cheers mate!
My Airfix memory is building the 1/72 Spitfire Mk.1a starter set while away on holiday. Brought back a lot of fond memories when starting in the hobby having to use a hairy stick and tube glue!
Hey David - Cant get more iconic and more 'Airfix' than the Spitfire. Tube glue and a hairy stick... simpler times hey? So good! Thanks for sharing and good luck 🤞
Grew up in Canada so don't have Airfix memory. Revell and Monogram were my earliest kits. I have built recent Airfix aircraft kits and have more in the stash. Different genres appeal to me, like Star Wars, gundams, F1 cars, WW1 armoured cars, military cannons and have built some with more in the stash. Oh and that Tatoo from Fantasy Island - a blast from my childhood past.
I know right. I knew I had to include Tatoo when I saw that clip. (Also, can you edit your comment to say ‘memory’ not memories because the filter won’t pick that up when the prize is drawn) 🍀
I just had my first Airfix Memory recently! Built a 1/72 P40. Went together well, and I love that they give wheels up options. Easy enough to reuse the hole they'd have you drill out for their stand with an acrylic rod instead.
@workbenchhobbies4316 That's the one! The level of detail at the smaller scale looked impressive. Thanks for the tip; I'm sure I'll be watching back through your video as I go
My airfix memory is a recent one, building their great (shared with academy) 1:35 Pzkpfw 35(t), great kit, I’ve build it a few times now Keep up the great work Love your channel And your work
I liked that leap they made into 1/35. Even though it was a rebox it opened the door to that scale for them. Glad to hear you are enjoying the channel. Thanks so much for taking the time to comment 🍺
Gosh my Airfix memory is when I was 10 years old and buying those bagged kits .. built them Saturday and then shoot them up with my pellet gun on Sunday.. Nowadays I mostly stick to armour but do have a few aircraft kits in the stash .. Oh yeah I did build a Finemolds 1/72 Tie Fighter this year .. that was really out of my comfort zone .
Nice work Clayton, my very first kit was an Airfix Spitfire, and let's just say it got me hooked, I'm almost 60yrs old and have been in this hobby since the age of Seven, I also consider myself an all-round modeller, having built cars, bikes, aircraft, ships, some Sci-Fi, and of course Tanks, can't say I'm a big fan of Airfix, but wouldn't mind a 1/24th scale Spitfire.
Hey John. You are quite the all rounder aren’t you? I consider myself the same way, but I think 1/24 could be a bridge too far 🤣 Hope you are well and thanks again for joining in 🙏
I'm looking forward to making an Airfix memory with this kit. Nice video, and an interesting subject. I like to build different genres, but prop aircraft are my favorite.
Hi Richard. Thanks for the feedback. I haven’t used it myself but my understanding is it’s a pva style of glue which is generally speaking very weak and slow drying. I needed the super glue strength and speed to counter some of the fit issues. I’ll be sure to keep an eye out for it to give it a try though. Appreciate you taking the time to comment 🕺🏽
Hi. Nice video. I could not watch for a while. My favorit Airfix Memory is from when I visited the RAF Museum in London with my mother she bought me a small Spitfire as a small surprise.
My early models were Airfix kits, just managed to get the new Airfix Liberator to rekindle that Airfix memory. I have had my eye on the Me410, so good timing on the kit build…
The Liberator is a beautiful plane isn’t it? Hopefully I can cut back on the mistakes for the next video and give you guys a decent result on this 410! Thanks for joining in 🙏☝️🥳
Haven’t started the B-24 yet. Lucky enough to pickup the plane from Aussie but missed out on the canopy masks. The kit still isn’t available in NZ yet.
My favorite airfix memory ... My ONLY airfix memory was a few months ago when i built their Bolton Paul Defiant. First ever kit from them. Very nice kit. . but i think there are 2 types of modelers. Guys that do air craft and guys who do armor. I love building aircraft kits. I'm just not great at it. Haha. You also have the rare modeler that is great at both.
Hey Will. I think you are right about the two types of modellers. It’s so easy to forget the tricks that you use when focussing on one genre. I’ve made plenty of mistakes on this one. Hopefully I can get it looking ok for the reveal🤞
Finally catching up on this build and finally a long promised aircraft!!🙂😉 It is always refreshing seeing someone make a mistake, call it out for all to see and show how it was remedied. Certainly things I would have tripped myself with. It's a great looking aircraft and I'm looking forward to the next video!! As for an Airfix memory.....I don't think I've ever built an Airfix model believe it or not🤔
@@workbenchhobbies4316 , cheers mate. Tracks, yes, must focus on tracks😁 Although I do notice you have another GB project started (PPP 100 GB) thats taking your attention away from a certain Sherman 🤣
Great video and thank you for all the tips!! I’m currently building the Takom Tiger and your videos are invaluable. Airfix Memory - The only Airfix kit I’ve built was a P-40. I had a blast and it was my first time painting a camo pattern. Challenging, but fun.
I love using the Quintas Studio products. I have only completed 1 airfix kit so I don't have a Airfix memory, except the one, as the kits are scarse around here.
Hey Troy. Quinta sets are great aren’t they?! Do yourself a favour and edit your comment to airfix memory rather than ‘memories’. The filter won’t recognise your entry otherwise 🤞
hello dear Clayton, how are you? your work is stunning! i also use Quinta Studio decals for many kits, there fantastic:my first memory AIRFIX is the Junkers 88 when i was 10 years, that's a great experience and pleasure for me,good journey, friendly;Patrick🤗
Lovely work so far Clayton. I could make a nice Airfix memory by winning this kit. Unfortunately my only memories of building a Me-410 to date are with the Italeri (wing gaps!) and Matchbox (trenches for panel lines!) versions.
Uufff I understand you in the clear parts! I built the Stuka dive bomber for my brother (the ravell one not the airfix memory one) and when applying the glue to the cockpit I accidentally placed some glue on my thumb so when my hand grabbed the piece, it got stuck to my thumb and when I was able to remove it, it left a big nasty thumb print there. Not just that, on my car models when I apply the glue to the frame and want to place the clear windshield, it’s a nasty mess as the glue has to be on parts of the clear piece and the frame (so far in the car models that I’ve build) are rarely made to actually fit on the clear piece as if there made from a different manufacture. Even on my tamiya jeep, I found that the frame also didn’t for some reason fit perfectly to reduce this issue. But alas it’s always a issue and it’s definitely a learning curve
It amazes me how some of these clear parts don’t fit (like you said). It can be so frustrating can’t it! And because they are clear they need to be perfect. Thanks again for taking the time to comment. 🙏
As Fate would have it, working on an Airfix Memory build right now, Henschel HS-123. Picked it up for the princely sum of 10USD after determining the Avis kit I had attempted was a dog not worth its keep. I find the new Airfix kits hit and miss as to molding quality and engineering, so really appreciate a fellow modeler recording his tests and trials with one of their latest. Cheers & stay well.
Hi Douglas. That hs123 is a pretty old kit from memory? Does it look ok? Personally I haven’t built many Airfix kits, but the few I have have been pretty good. I’m glad you found the video helpful. Appreciate you joining in. Good luck with the draw 🍺💪🤞
@@workbenchhobbies4316 It's almost as old as I am, a child of the sixties (when I first built it). A plethora of fine rivets on the fuselage and the usual hills & valleys on the wings. Dodgy fit, but with some modeling skills and a proper pint it can be made to look the part. Tried using alcohol instead of distilled water with the Perfect Putty and I feel the results are better, so another thank you.
Airfix memory, for me its the DHC Beaver. I don't really know why, it certainly wasn't my first kit but it was one of the earliest & since getting back into the hobby, it was the first one i looked out for and bought (well i bought 2 actually). I know its not the most accurate with all its rivets but i like it especially the AAC version.
I do like the Buccaneer. Cool plane. (Can you edit your comment to say Airfix pls. The filter won’t pick it up when prize is drawn otherwise) good luck 🤞
G'day Clayton 🙂 I like Airfix model kits, they just don't make many subjects I want to add to my collection. Hoping they turn out a 48th scale Lysander aircraft. I totally agree regarding Quinta Studios & others that make 3d decals, not cheating at all. Just another sign of progress in the quality of detail products being offered to modellers. Are those your airplane models at the beginning of the video?! Bloody awesome Clayton!!! Much respect and admiration for ALL your modelling skills, be it aircraft, armour, figures, dioramas, etc. Keep 'em coming!
Hey Jim. Yeah, that’s a few of my aircraft builds. I have a few more, but they would be the main ones. Thank you for your kind words. Appreciate your support as always 🙏🕺🏽
So many Airfix memory. Just one. Building the F-84F when it was new, and being so impressed with the cockpit compared with the usual seat-on-pegs arrangements. General comment: I still really like modern Airfix, but they could try harder with fit of things like inserts and canopies. They just need a little more work than a modern, CAD-designed, kit should need. A thought on Perfect Plastic Putty. Yes it's the absolute duck's wotnots for gaps that are not quite perfect but not requiring a more serious filler. I find a swipe with a slightly dampened cotton bud immediately after application does the job.
I thought I had an Airfix memory to share, but it's Starfix instead. Although, from what I have read, the spitfire and me 109 double kit might be an old Airfix mold. I still have them both and doubt that I will ever get rid of them. Fun little builds, and they look good from a distance.
Starfix is a new name for me. I’ll have to do some investigating 😁 You are lucky you still have your old kits. Most people’s old builds found their way to land fill. I’d love to have mine to reflect on. Thanks for taking the time to comment 👍
Airfix Memory huh... The "Starcruiser 1", Dad brough it back from a business trip to the UK. I built it and played with it for years. It eventually ended up in the scrap bin. I'm certain parts of it went on to live as greeblies in some scratchbuilt Star Wars models
Very cool! Can’t imagine playing with modern day kits…you look the wrong way at some of these and they fall apart! Do me a favour and edit your comment to say Airfix memory instead of memories…the filter won’t pick your entry up otherwise 🍀
@@workbenchhobbies4316 Thanks for the tip, comment was edited. For what it's worth, there's still plenty of entry level snap kits out there with plenty of play value. They are a great way to get those kiddos hooked on styrene.
Quinta studio 3D decals are fantastic. I use them for 1/35 trucks. It's certainly not cheating. It's just an aid to produce a very realistic model, and of course, they are optional 😂
My Airfix memory would be Dad bringing home those Airfix kits that came in bags, and a tube of Testor's glue (The stuff that made you feel a bit funny when using it) The poor aircraft would somehow get glued together with a fogged up canopy and glue fingerprints all over it.
My Airfix memory is of my first attempts to build models with my Dad helping or according to my Mum my Dad built them himself as he didn't want me to waste them
Hi! I just got into modelling and my best Airfix Memory is literally yesterday when I finished my spitfire mk vc with my dad making the Messerschmitt. I would love to grow my collection!😊 Have a great day hope I am not too late.
What a great story and what an awesome memory for you to share with your Dad. Do yourself a favour though and edit your comment to say 'Airfix Memory" otherwise the filter wont find you when its time to find a winner.

My Airfix Memory has to be the Wellington Bomber. I was about 8 years old, and when I brush painted the underside with black enamel paint I got ti everywhere. All over my bedroom desk and carpet. All was forgiven, as my dad stuck it to my polystyrene tiled ceiling with fishing line and drawing pins.
My first Airfix memory was building a Spitfire while a big thunderstorm raged outside. Got a bit scared. It would be a better story if I was building a Thunderbolt or a Lightning though LoL
Early Airfix Memory - building bagged WWI biplanes, and then later an Airfix He 177 in the US MPC boxing with the "hippie decals" bonus markings. Don't worry, I did not use those!
Wow! thats an oldie! I'm not familiar with the decals you speak of but it sounds like you made a good choice! 😂 Thanks for sharing Brian, and thanks for taking the time to connect. Good luck with the draw! 🍀
Airfix memory, I bought an Airfix 1/72 Panavia Tornado, everything was going fine until I went to put the intakes on, they looked like they had melted and bowed out. The tornado promptly got disposed of. For some reason I keep buying Airfix kits in spite of this 🤔
Hey Matt. We never seem to learn do we 🕺🏽 I think Airfix kits can be a little like that…although I think the later ones are pretty good. Thanks for taking the time to comment 🙏👍
Nice build, enjoyed that. In answer to your question, are 3D printed decals cheating? Certainly not. Anything that helps you get a better result isnt cheating. Cheating is when you break the rules in order to gain an unfair advantage. Is it unfair on those that perhaps dont have as much disposable income as you? Thats another question.
I guess if you are talking about actual competition then you could make that argument about resin, etch, decals being an unfair advantage…although some shows have modified vs unmodified. But I’m with you. Those Quinta sets are great aren’t they. Thanks for joining in.
I agree with you! I just recall the whole ‘it’s just not modelling’ argument going on at a model show once. I think they are incredible and just about a must have. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts 🙏🍺
No worries Paul - appreciate people may not be comfortable using them, and thats totally fine. There are other options (if you can get your hands on them)
What? A Weasel, Bradley, and Tiger, and now this little plane. What's going on? I'm kidding of coarse. It's good to venture out and try your skills on other genres and try other genres and pick up new skills. I just did Maximilian robot from the Black Hole movie and the USS Monitor ship from the US civil war. It's good to try new things so keep it up.
Good point Stephen :) I guess that school of thought comes from the small pocket old school modellers that think assembling a kit without modifying it isn't actually modelling. Thanks for joining in the conversation 🥳
@@workbenchhobbies4316 yeah, I went through the martyrdom phase a decade or so back. Now days quick is good, not to mention the result is way beyond my painting skills.

I have that kit in the stash I think. Gotta live a Stuka! Are you predominantly and aircraft modeller?
@@workbenchhobbies4316 Can't wait to see you build it! About my main genre, I have built armour kits for the past 3 years, and continue to do so. However, I also enjoy building aircraft to keep things a little different from time to time. As you said, it is nice to switch things up to keep it interesting :)
Let’s see how the wings gone down with the workbench hobbies community before I commit to another 😉🤣
Really impressed with your work, I will be a returning viewer in the future.
Now that’s a great memory! 😍 Thanks for sharing 🙏
My Airfix Memory is a 1/72 Super Etendard I built almost 20 years ago, a really nice kit back then.
Very nice! Thanks for working your way through my other videos 😉🕺🏽
My favorite Airfix memory was my first and only airfix kit that I have done. It was a 1/48 scale p-51 mustang
Hey Timothy. I nearly committed to that one myself. It builds into a nice little kit doesn’t it? Thanks for taking the time to connect 🍀🍺
It does build up into a very nice kit. I love all the different options it has. I just have to paint it up. I haven’t finished many kits this is probably my 4th kit so I definitely made multiple mistakes. But it was a lot of fun to build so far.
Fantastic. Good luck with it 🍀
"Airfix memory".
Oh! That is an oldie! Did you still have the kit? Wish I had my only ones. Probably in landfill somewhere ☹️
My last Airfix Memory is the Avro Lancaster B.III (Special) 'The Dambusters', and fully recommend it
Ooohhh!
Such great times. Thanks for sharing and good luck it you 🍀
Airfix was my first! She started my modelling passion whit a simpel Bf109 i still have to this day :D it wasnt pretty and is still in her unpainted form but it is my fondest Airfix memory! Modelling memory in general haha! :D
You never forget your first 😬 you are lucky you still have it. Good luck 🤞
Ah yes! That was a great show wasn’t it?! I remember it well. Thanks for sharing and good luck! 🤞
My best Airfix Memory is getting a few 1/72 starter sets and doing a build with some friends
Those starter kits certainly gave everyone the opportunity to get involved didn’t they. Thanks for sharing and good luck 🤞
Use it or lose it is so true. I've been away from my bench since 2016 and am just getting back in. I almost feel like I'm starting over! Just found your channel and I have to say I love your content and presentation. Thanks for the inspiration, mate!
Welcome back to the greatest hobby in the world! So glad you’ve found our community 🙏💪
My airfix memory, aged 4 dad buys a 72 scale spitfire I put it together with tube glue + lots of finger prints then put the transfers on followed by a very light gloss green, for a 4 year old I remember it being a master piece😂.
Oh mate! Building models at 4? That’s unreal! I’m sure it was an absolute masterpiece! What a great memory. Thanks for sharing 🙏🍀
Thanks so much for sharing that special time with the me 🙏
Airfix memory - my first armored vehicle as a kid. A 1/72 scale Panther A - its pretty hard to get the wheels out of alignment, but I manage it. 🙂
Think that might be 1/76 back in the day? Could we call the misalignment on the wheels some type of mine damage? 😊🤫😉
@@workbenchhobbies4316 Oh yeah, that'd be right, 1/76
Its the old railway scale 00 I believe
Great build video! My favorite Airfix memory is when I built the 1/72 Airfix A6M2b Zero kit. It was an enjoyable build and the first kit I built after being out of the hobby for decades. I decided to enter my first contest with it. It was the IPMS Nationals and I was completely amazed when it won 3rd place in the out-of-box category.
Oh wow! Great result. Congratulations 🥂 Thanks for taking the time to share your story 🙏
Airfix memory, yearning for a 1/24th scale kit, finally saved enough pocket money to get one the Messerschmitt 109 and then the Stuka, they seemed huge back then.
Hey Philip. I’d say they are still huge! 24th is a big hunk of plastic! Thanks for taking the time to comment 🍺
Thanks for the heads up. Well done and very informative. I really like the recently tooled 1/72 airfix kits. They are among the top 72nd kits available and give the buyer great value for money. These kits truly enhance my airfix memories ! :-)
Cheers from Holland!
Cheers Martin. They are very good aren’t they? Thanks for joining in 💪🙏
I really like when you bring variety to your channel and do different subjects not just armor.
Model on!
Hi Kevin. Great tips. Thank you 🙏
@@workbenchhobbies4316 - no charge.
😱
@@workbenchhobbies4316 photoetched JLC type saw are indeed awesome for rescribing. I use them along the Trumpeter "hobby line engraver", which is both the cheapest and the best line engraver I tried (I find it even slightly better than the Tamiya I also have), to get a perfect result.
I’ll check it out. Thanks for joining in ☝️💪
@@workbenchhobbies4316
Thanks for the reply Clayton.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Gary. Always so insightful ☝️🙏
Very nice! Let’s see if we can add an Me410 to have it go head to head with! ☝️🍀
@workbenchhobbies4316 One could hope! 🤞 In the meantime I picked up a tiny Tiger because of your video on it
Oh cool! The Vespid one? Just take your time. Some very small parts but such a beautiful rendition of the Tiger. Good luck 🤞
@workbenchhobbies4316 That's the one! The level of detail at the smaller scale looked impressive. Thanks for the tip; I'm sure I'll be watching back through your video as I go
You’ll love it 😊
My airfix memory is a recent one, building their great (shared with academy) 1:35 Pzkpfw 35(t), great kit, I’ve build it a few times now
Keep up the great work
Love your channel
And your work
I liked that leap they made into 1/35. Even though it was a rebox it opened the door to that scale for them. Glad to hear you are enjoying the channel. Thanks so much for taking the time to comment 🍺
I like the start you made Clayton, a small scale but really worth it...
Thanks mate. Let’s hope I can pull this together 🤔
My favorite was building the Bristol Mk32 Superfreighter for a friend using custom decals for British Air Ferries.
1967 release I believe! Great memory. Thanks for sharing 🙏
Haha! There was nothing better than building kits and finding ways to destroy them 🤣🤣 BB guns and fire crackers were my weapons of choice 👌🏼😱
I consider myself the same way, but I think 1/24 could be a bridge too far 🤣 Hope you are well and thanks again for joining in 🙏
@@workbenchhobbies4316 All Good thanks Clayton, I hope you are also good?

Airfix memory - would be the 1/72 spitfires; I like different genres in builds. Feel it keeps you looking out for more techniques and areas to learn
Hi Neil. I couldn’t agree more. Thanks for sharing and good luck 🤞
I use airfix as a break. I enjoy the 1/72 scale to give my airfix memory a nap. I've had issues with larger scale. Keep up the great productions.

I dont recall building any Airfix kits as a child a long time ago, but since I started again about a year ago, I have built several.
Hey Leo. I guess your Airfix memory is pretty current then hey 🙂 Thanks for taking the time to comment 🙏
@@workbenchhobbies4316 Your build of the 410 is excellent. I haven't done this one yet. Have done a Matchbox and a Revell v4ersion.
Thanks Leo. Have to tell you not all has gone to plan in part two…so fingers crossed I can salvage it! 🤞
I'm looking forward to making an Airfix memory with this kit. Nice video, and an interesting subject. I like to build different genres, but prop aircraft are my favorite.
It’s a great subject isn’t it. Hopefully I can help add it to your collection ☝️🍀
Hi Clayton for attaching clear parts i use mig ultra glue, its a water based acrylic adhesive that you can also use for photoetch and it dries clear 👍
My Airfix Memory is a very good one. A Spitfire in 48th scale was my very first model kit after I started again with the hobby 🙂
Very nice! It’s so cool how many people’s entry (or reentry) to the hobby started with an Airfix kit. Thanks for connecting and joining in 🙏
Hi. Nice video. I could not watch for a while. My favorit Airfix Memory is from when I visited the RAF Museum in London with my mother she bought me a small Spitfire as a small surprise.
Great memories. Thanks so much for sharing. Good luck 🤞
Good luck with the build 🍀
Airfix Memory, is seeing them evolve in recent years to produce some decent kits finally.
Can’t argue with that 👌🏼
I havent built any airfix kits yet. Hope this kit will be my firds airfix memory
Fingers crossed! I’ll see what I can do 🤞
Sometimes the skills fade within the same genre…you cant do everything all the time! Enjoying the videos!

My Airfix memory will be Fiat G.50 ! For long time only game in town and I still have 3-4 in stash ready to go !!
Such a unique looking plane isn’t it?! Thanks for sharing 🙏
Finally catching up on this build and finally a long promised aircraft!!🙂😉

Lovely work so far Clayton. I could make a nice Airfix memory by winning this kit. Unfortunately my only memories of building a Me-410 to date are with the Italeri (wing gaps!) and Matchbox (trenches for panel lines!) versions.
Oh! You’re giving me nightmares 🤣🤣 Good luck with the draw and thanks again for joining in 🙏
Airfix memory: back when I did my first tank, a pz 35t. ;)
Ok cool. That kit was an Academy rebox…but I’ll allow it 😉 Still got Airfix in the box doesn’t it 👍👍 Good luck with the competition 🍀
My pleasure - appreciate you taking the time to connect and being part of this community. Thanks to you :)
Airfix memory, for me its the DHC Beaver. I don't really know why, it certainly wasn't my first kit but it was one of the earliest & since getting back into the hobby, it was the first one i looked out for and bought (well i bought 2 actually). Much respect and admiration for ALL your modelling skills, be it aircraft, armour, figures, dioramas, etc. Keep 'em coming!

Great memory you were able to share with your son. Good luck with the draw 🍀
Airfix memory I have yet to venture into airfix at this point in my hobby career
Hey Troy. I’ll see what I can do to help 😁
I can’t believe you don’t like a seat on pegs! 🤣🤣 Thanks for sharing your memory and your thoughts. Good luck with the draw 🍀

Quinta studio 3D decals are fantastic. I use them for 1/35 trucks. It's certainly not cheating. It's just an aid to produce a very realistic model, and of course, they are optional 😂

If this video goes down with the WBH community/ channel I’ll look to do something in 48th scale at some point
Airfix memory I have is watching the release of the Westlands Sea King and wanting to purchase but alas, $s not available. But will get there one day.
Thanks Kurt. The Sea king was a great release wasn’t it! Very popular. Hopefully you get to build it for yourself one day 🤞 Thank for joining in 🙏
My Airfix memory would be Dad bringing home those Airfix kits that came in bags, and a tube of Testor's glue (The stuff that made you feel a bit funny when using it) The poor aircraft would somehow get glued together with a fogged up canopy and glue fingerprints all over it.
Fingerprints added character and a foggy canopy just meant the pilot needed to be on his game. Great memories 🙏
My Airfix memory is of my first attempts to build models with my Dad helping or according to my Mum my Dad built them himself as he didn't want me to waste them
Haha…us dads cop a bad wrap don’t we! He obviously did something right cause you’re still building? Thanks for sharing your thoughts. 🍺🙏
Hi! I just got into modelling and my best Airfix Memory is literally yesterday when I finished my spitfire mk vc with my dad making the Messerschmitt. I would love to grow my collection!😊 Have a great day hope I am not too late.
If you like I can send you some pictures? Maybe you can give me some tips!😊
What a great story and what an awesome memory for you to share with your Dad. Do yourself a favour though and edit your comment to say 'Airfix Memory" otherwise the filter wont find you when its time to find a winner.
Happy to take a look - send me an email through my website - workbenchhobbies.com
Thanks! I will try and send some pics soon!
🕺🏽
Only have built one Airfix kit, so that is my Airfix Memory.
A memory is a memory! Let’s see if we can get you your second Airfix kit. Thanks for joining in 🙏🤞💪

we armor modellers are very versatile we build tanks, ships, aircraft, figures, unlike the rest who only builds one genre
Well…comments like that could be considered quite controversial…but I have to agree with you 🙂 Thanks for your contribution 🙏
Cool 🛩
Thanks 🤩
My Airfix Memory has to be the Wellington Bomber. I was about 8 years old, and when I brush painted the underside with black enamel paint I got ti everywhere. All over my bedroom desk and carpet. All was forgiven, as my dad stuck it to my polystyrene tiled ceiling with fishing line and drawing pins.

@@workbenchhobbies4316 Wow. I never win anything. I'm in the UK. Does that cancel the prize? I understand if it does, the cost an all.
no mate - all good - get in contact with me through my website and we can work it out offline - www.workbenchhobbies.com
Erm, I'm old so forgive me. How do I contact you privately. And thank you. I'm totally stoked at finally winning sutin.

My first Airfix memory was building a Spitfire while a big thunderstorm raged outside. Got a bit scared. It would be a better story if I was building a Thunderbolt or a Lightning though LoL
🤣🤣 love it. Interesting how we can associate a moment in time with a model we build isn’t it? What a great hobby 👌🏼
Indeed! It was almost thirty years ago, and I remember like its yesterday - Spitfire in a thunderstorm.
💪☝️
My Airfix memory is… well I don’t have one. Never built an airfix kit before
Well let’s see if we can fix that for you 🥳
A needle in a pin vice will get that perfect plastic putty out of the recessed details
Thanks Grant. Great tip. 🙏
Airfix Memory
In! 👍
Airfix memory!
🍀
@@workbenchhobbies4316 my Airfiix memory is doing and M4 Sherman in 1/76 scale
So many of us built those 76th scale kits. Good times hey?
@@workbenchhobbies4316 it didn’t turn out to bad…. Got some 3D prints from Oddball759 and it looks good!
Love it 😻
How is using Quinta sets more "cheating" than using a waterslide decal or photo-etch piece? I just don't get the argument.
I agree with you! I just recall the whole ‘it’s just not modelling’ argument going on at a model show once. I think they are incredible and just about a must have. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts 🙏🍺
Quinta? In 2024.
Hi Paul - what am I missing ?
@@workbenchhobbies4316 The War on Ukraine.........
🤣🤣 I do like to mix it up don’t I? Maximilian robot sounds very interesting! Great to see you here in the channel again. Thank you 🙏
Cheating? How can you cheat when there aren’t any rules? 😊
For sure. Thanks again mate ☝️💪
