I've built the kit about a week ago in basically one evening and was surprised by its quality for the price. Honestly 100% agree that it's a model for everyone and I am gonna buy another one in the future!
I built this model two or three times over my over 40 years of my model addiction and have to say i agree this is an o 3:53 utstanding kit and great for beginners or experienced modelers alike. To add a note to that if you want to go up a bigger scale takoma s 1/16 scale jeep also is a great kit..great viseo ty
I love the Tamiya black panel liner. One of the best things I like about it (compared to Ammo panel washes), is the pigments stay in suspension during your modelling session and you don’t have to keep shaking it as you go.
Having been to Bastogne last weekend, I feel myself motivated to start modelling kits that were part of the Battle of the Bulge. Your timing, good sir, is impeccable!
Fantastic! It’s just about the perfect kit for that type of thing. Accessible to every modeller at a reasonable price. Gold award for the person who chose the subject 🏆
A great build and finish for this iconic vehicle Clayton. I have a bit of a soft spot for the ‘Jeep’, as I used to own a ‘42 Ford jeep many years ago. It was fully restored, and included all the original data plates and tools, etc. It was a fantastic little vehicle, and was able to go places that even a modern FWD would balk at. I carted that jeep all over western NSW culling wild pigs, and it only let me down once or twice. I got it stuck in a river once with water over the bonnet, and I had to get a tractor to pull it out, and when it dried out a little and with some persuasion, it started straight away. I loved that little warhorse. Oops; I have gone right off topic, but watching this brought back so many memories. Again, a beautiful job on the jeep mate, and cheers for now!
After 30 years of strictly figure modeling, this kit got me back into armor modeling. I drove jeep wranglers going back to the late '80's and thought I needed a model of a Willy's. It was a fun build and it's a nice basis for adding some detail if you want, but you don't really have to. Great job!
Good selection! I built this kit earlier this year and just picked up another one at a show a few weeks ago. I have been building models for over 50 years and kits like this keep the hobby fun!
Great video loaded with great information. While I don't have the Tamiya Jeep you are building but I did pull the Tamiya Special Air Service Jeep from my stash. Even though it's from a different theater of WWII you have given me the motivation to build it. Thanks, Clayton.
Nice upload. I’m a model railroader but your video has inspired me to try a plastic kit. I found this Tamiya Jeep kit on the AK Spanish site store so I’ve added it to a cart I was about to pay for. I’ll be coming back for reference. 😊 Thanks.

My washes? I've gone away from all the AK/Mig mixes and strictly do oil paint. I take old Tamiya paint bottles when they are empty, clean them out and add oil paint and mineral spirits. I also use Tamiya extra thin empty bottles for the washes I use more of.one has buff/dust color. One has black and brown together. Another has a shinier brownish color for stains. They are just a ton better for me. No more stinky liquids. Lol
Hey Will. Some of those ak/mig mixes can be very hit and miss can’t they? Although if I find a good one that flows well I tend to stick to it. Oils are a great alternative though. Thanks for helping me grow this channel 👍
Great build. I am happy to work on the same projekt you have just finished. The only difference is that I took Takom 2126 instead. I have just painted the model with base color and I am going to follow your way hoping to get similar result. It is nice to have a good tutorial from you again. Best regards, Greg
Great build , always fun to build a good old Tamiya kit after a more intense build. As for panel liner products I use . I have lots of the premixed products from all the different brands and are all very handy and have their uses , but usually end up making my own from different oil paints . I just finished building the 1/16 scale jeep and also enjoyed that build. Keep up the great work and can't wait to see the project all come together.
I love Tamiya Panel liner washes, but I also make my own by thinning artists oil paints with turpentine or other thinning agents to get just the right shade of wash.
Great Job Clayton in presenting the Jeep! I personally built the other tamiya Jeep that comes with crew and a machine gun on top (plus a cart) and yeah it’s a beautiful build! I think that Allied (British and American I would say as I haven’t build any Russian models) hardware and figures (with the exception on the tamiya comet) are beginner friendly compared to axis (or really German) models because of their complexity. It seems that the complexity of the German engineers left its mark even to our hobby 🤣🤣 that has still remained historically accurate while the alllies have too remained historically accurate in a straightforward easy builds 🤣. @workbenchhobbies4316 I've got both too. I accidentally ordered the Quick Set thinking it was normal TET. 😄 Why Tamiya used such a similar green is beyond me - and I have perfect colour vision. I mostly build 1/35 armour and there's no real need for a quicker drying cement, in fact it can often be a poor choice.

Difference between the Jeep and the Hummer for civilians? The Jeep was left unchanged and it's ruggedness intact, comfort was not considered keeping the Vehicle for many years as it was during the War. The Hummer was originally left unchanged but added comfort for passengers was added, by the next Gen the Hummer was no longer the Military to Civilian vehicle kept intact and instead they traded the durability and key attributes in favor of a more comfortable and less military look. One of the most iconic vehicles even today though no longer produced, the ones made will last for Generations.

I definitely toyed with that wire cutter. It’s an interesting tool isn’t it! Morbid to say the least! If I build another Jeep it’s something I’ll include for sure. Thanks for sharing you thoughts 👍
Curious if you go with MEK rather than the extra thin glue in a nail polish pumper with a hair brush, ive found it to be thinner again and hyper fast to dry. I guess theres also the fume fsctor, but when your running thinners in your paint, youd prob be running extraction fan.
I’ve never gone down that path. Mainly due to the health implications… I have heard it works well though. No extraction fans in my hobby room. Just keep my pressures low and control paint flow. Not a lot of fumes. Thanks for your input. It’s appreciated 🍺🙏
I worked for a while doing concept model making in film, best glue, will tack styrene to foamex/palight/foamed pvc as well as almost instantly bond styrene. Yeah look, the off gas from MEK is a consideration for sure, but as long as you work space is ventilated you'd be right, heck lacquer paint have more fumes tbh. Loving your content, only recently found you, current in recovery from spinal surgery, so your giving me lots to think about. Cheers mate.
Yeah it's been a long time between making stints, kids will do that, vowed to get through the collection of cars and Gundams (which I'm doing up in a AUSCAM scheme diorama) and may try my hand and some armour after watching you/Nightshift/Panzer(meister?).
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it. Don’t listen to my messed up pronunciations. I butcher the English language at every opportunity 🤣 Thanks for taking the time to comment ☝️👍

I felt the fact the jeep meant the beginner didn’t need to worry about tracks tipped the kit in its favour. Certainly appreciate others may have a different opinion. Thanks again for taking the time to share 🍺
you can immediately see the difference between an amateur modeler and a professional one who makes money from sponsorships in his videos: the huge waste of masking tape, even when it is not absolutely necessary (painting the rims)
Money for what? Lol. A lot of modelers get their stuff because their videos are popular and companies like VMS give them their products so they get better coverage. It's a win/win situation. Everyone gets what they want. The vast majority of companies that give out their stuff don't expect anything back. They want their products used. And if there is any issues they can correct. If I was making videos on RUclips, I would definitely try and use free stuff.
No paid sponsorship here my friend. The tape is a painters tape from the local hardware store. $2 at most for a big roll. Have had it for years. Appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts 🏆
Hi Will. You are half right. I used to get given a lot of stuff through my ‘the modelling news’, but I don’t take it anymore and pay for my consumables. If someone does happen to send something for review you’ll know because I’ll do a review… like I did for the Atom paints and the VMS pigment jockey. But for the most part, what you see on screen has come from the hallowed shelves of bna model world 🤣 No sponsorships here at this stage of my RUclips journey 😜 Thanks as always for your thoughtful input 🍺🙏

So glad you found me. Good luck with the recovery. Model making sounds like the perfect hobby to aid in your rehab ❤️🩹
Yeah it's been a long time between making stints, kids will do that, vowed to get through the collection of cars and Gundams (which I'm doing up in a AUSCAM scheme diorama) and may try my hand and some armour after watching you/Nightshift/Panzer(meister?).
Looking forward to seeing what you produce 👍👍☝️
where you get gunze weathering color?
It can be hard to come by which is why I jumped on these…I got mine from BNA Model world
Very nice build of one of my favorite kits.
It's a common error, but Willys is pronounced Will-Is, with the s sounding like an S and not a Z.
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it. Don’t listen to my messed up pronunciations. I butcher the English language at every opportunity 🤣
Thanks for taking the time to comment ☝️👍
Makes me want to buy one …. but maybe I should finish my schwimmwagon first.
Nah…but another model 😈😈 😬
No the gunze weathering stuff isnt enamel, but an oil paint product
Hey Rick. Enamels are oils based paint. Both thinned with white spirit. They are more or less the same thing…or at least part of the same style of paint as I understand it.
Appreciate you taking the time to share ✅🍺
fun!
Thanks Glenn 🙏

John Laroquette was in Mork and Mindy?!
It would appear so 🤩😎
I can’t find the “show notes” to see the products used.
Hi Dan. They are there in the description under the video? Can you see the video description?
@@workbenchhobbies4316
Under the tab Description I can set “Chapters” and then “Transcript” and then a listing of more videos. I’m using my IPad to view this and that may have something to do with it.
Not sure sorry.. but there they are for what its worth -

Thank you very much for the links. The micro drills are what caught my attention. I really enjoyed your jeep build video. You speak in a calm understandable way and use plain terms that make it easy to understand. I mostly model 1/48 modern jets but I may have a go at that jeep. Keep up the great work.
Thanks Dan - there wouldn't be too many sessions at the bench I dont use those drills.
🤝🎥👍
Thanks Igor 🙏
Perfect? NOT ❌ Tamiya ✔ 1/35 ✔tooled around that mid-late 90s era ✔not too many parts so quick to construct ✔American ❌ Never been interested in American stuff. Like most people in ROW right now, I detest genocide supporting America so it'd never get bought let alone finished. A subject one is 100% interested & invested and so motivated to build is vital. ✔Substitute Tamiya 35224 Schwimmwagen Type 166 ✔PERFECT! ✔
Thanks for your thoughts. Happy for you to substitute a Schwimmwagen if that floats your boat 😉
first!!!
First comment? Well done 🏆
A simple tank kit like a T-34 would be better for beginners than this. This has way too many fiddly bits for a tyro to cope with.
Thanks for your input. Appreciate there are a couple of fine parts, but certainly nothing too difficult. I felt the fact the jeep meant the beginner didn’t need to worry about tracks tipped the kit in its favour.
Certainly appreciate others may have a different opinion. Thanks again for taking the time to share 🍺
Looks cool. 🪖
Thank you 😎
you can immediately see the difference between an amateur modeler and a professional one who makes money from sponsorships in his videos: the huge waste of masking tape, even when it is not absolutely necessary (painting the rims)
That looks like masking tape for household painting, rather than hobbyist-labeled tape. Cheaper, much, much cheaper.
You nailed it 👍 Been in the stash for years
Hi Will. You are half right. I used to get given a lot of stuff through my ‘the modelling news’, but I don’t take it anymore and pay for my consumables. If someone does happen to send something for review you’ll know because I’ll do a review… like I did for the Atom paints and the VMS pigment jockey. But for the most part, what you see on screen has come from the hallowed shelves of bna model world 🤣
No sponsorships here at this stage of my RUclips journey 😜
Thanks as always for your thoughtful input 🍺🙏
