They say her identical twin, Sarah Petersen, showed up at the scene, and switched places with Sarah, claiming to be the driver. Twin sisters have been charged in a deadly crash that killed two Amish children riding in a horse-drawn buggy after one of the women allegedly swapped places with her identical twin in an attempt to help her avoid charges, officials said. Police say 35-year-old Samantha Petersen was driving an SUV when she hit an Amish buggy on a country road in Minnesota. Two Amish girls riding in the carriage were killed in the collision. According to authorities, Samantha Petersen was high on meth when she crashed into the buggy. They say her identical twin, Sarah Petersen, showed up at the scene and switched places with Samantha before authorities arrived so that she could claim to be the driver in the incident. “There’s no way they would ever know the difference between the two of us," Sarah allegedly told her twin, according to a criminal complaint. And, according to the criminal complaint, Samantha allegedly admitted everything to a friend, texting, “I hit that Amish buggy and killed two people… made Sarah come there and take the fall for it so I wouldn’t go to prison.” Fillmore County Sheriff John DeGeorge said in February that a “lengthy investigation” found suspicious “inconsistencies” in the case, which eventually led to the unraveling of the alleged plot. I understand that the largest Amish Community is in Florida. I believe just north of Tampa. I have seen Amish products, and a few years ago saw Amish people. Not sure how they do that with their lifestyle? Do they hire someone to drive them?

I can not answer as a twin, but as a sibling and a mother I would never protect my brothers or children from being held accountable for crimes they committed. I would stand by the with love and support but I would expect them to do the right thing and accept punishment and admit their guilt.

I feel the same way and just don’t have time for anyone who evades accepting responsibility, no matter how much I love them. We all should have to face the consequences of our actions, and this story is a perfect example of what can happen when you enable a loved one’s poor/reckless decisions. This tragedy could have been avoidable had she been held accountable for prior crimes/behavior.

@theresacatlayingonmychest she had been held accountable though. She was on parole at the time that this happened, meaning she had been in prison and then released. She clearly just didn't learn from the experience.
My family and I just bought milk from a farm directly next to the crosses placed for the kids where this happened. I live in this town. The husband and wife are in need of a new buggy and medical doantions. They won't sue or get the government involved as that goes against their religion. 🥺💔. Thank you for covering this.

As a Minnesotan, I can tell you that our catch and release program is out of hand. They've let this one guy out of Hennepin county, jail over and over and he has murdered seven people. but because those people were gang members it doesn't really matter to them. Just look into all the despicable people they let go in this state!

My sister had a criminal record and I did not… when we were younger i took the fall for her to keep her from going to jail. We were 18 months apart in age but would always be mistaken as twins. Now that i am older i can see that i was not helping her, i was enabling her and i regret it. She died in 2018 and i carry so much guilt.

My kids dad took a charge for his younger brother n ended up having to serve 18 months in prison. They look nothing alike but they're only 11 months apart

I'm sorry you lost your sister. You odviously cared deeply for her, as you shielded her from the repercussions of her own choices & mistakes, trying to give her a softer place to land when she fell.
You can't be blamed for caring that much.
You were manipulated and because you have a kind heart, you protected her from herself.

She wouldn't want you to carry the burden of guilt in her death, after all you carried for her in life already.

I'm from northern Minnesota and I can personal tell you that the court system and most Law enforcement are a complete JOKE in this state. I myself believe that they should be locked up and the driver doesn't need to be free anymore. She has proven that other people don't matter so she can live behind bars.

Many people leading law enforcement are installed by politicians. Others are funded by evil people so they can easily get their name noticed to win elections. The person with the most signs and advertisements usually wins.

In NY they found a couple’s remains scattered in the park and they found the 4 people responsible for putting them there and evidence in their home and they were all released with ankle monitors. It’s insane. 😒🤬

I would still be there for them and support them but no way I would take the blame 💯 now if it were my 16 y/o daughter,and it was an ACCIDENT (Like she wasn't drinking,and it was truly an accident!) I am also autistic but not yet diagnosed officially as yet because I’m a girl apparently it was is a lot harder to diagnose girls but I’m finally on a waiting list to be diagnosed, I always thought I was mentally ill or something but then I had two boys who are autistic & I did the tests because they said it’s hereditary & I scored so high & they are also going to blood test me, & I love watching Christina also 😊

On 12/30/22 in Huntington WV a 13y/o girl was struck and killed by an off duty sheriff in his cruiser. He was placed on administrative leave then resigned after Prosecutor blames the behavior of the baby girl who was just starting to live. Our government has been a big failure to many.
The best thing most of us can do is keep exposing the eee -veeel ones who are helped by a Say -tan -eek group that begins with an F and ends with sons. The F part rhymes with Tree and the word May immediately follows that part.
Please name a better system other than yours. As a non US person who studied different criminal justice systems of different countries I'm curious what you really think.
@@jamisonz3365 Our system was once pretty good, maybe. Now you need to be rich to hire a lawyer, and government prosecutors and judges are biased to help their own party members whilst attacking the opponent party members.
I can't believe they were not arrested. I have lived in NC, TN, and GA. All 3 places would have arrested them on the scene. Plus the bond amount would be set at a high amount.

Buggies are always hit out here in ohio in amish country. Its so sad bc the speed limits are higher out there and hills and most only have that triangle but my god, she had a clear view. So sad. Poor humans, poor horse. She definitely needs to serve time and hopefully learn a lesson and lets hope she dont develop other habits while in jail. Praying for the amish family❤
I live in Tennessee and it’s very common here and close to places in Kentucky. We go to as well. I didn’t know this but some Amish bishops don’t allow them to put the orange triangle on there because it’s too worldly and the ones that do have it on there most of the time are very cautious.
Drivers as a whole need to slow down
I was in a car crash with my 2 week old baby in the back seat. A guy in an F-150 smacked into the passenger side (mine and my child’s side) of the vehicle. I’m not a huge believer in God… but something intervened that’s day. The car literally did a 360 and hopped up on a curb. I got knocked out and the car was completely totaled. I had to go through 3 years of physical therapy, chiropractic, and counseling. My child though? He was completely, and miraculously, unharmed. I still don’t know how. I literally woke up, in a totaled car, and I started screaming. I thought my baby was dead. Idk if it was the proper car seat (which was my first time installing one btw). Idk if it was an angel stepping in. I honestly have no idea. But I thank whatever it was, to this day. To add, the guy who hit us, was so unsympathetic. He was the opposite of sorry, and the bystanders, stood up for him. Literally yelled at my mom and I, and said “OMG IT WAS AN ACCIDENT!”. Apparently it wasn’t his first time in an “accident” either. He was speeding, ran a stop sign, hit our car, and was thankfully found guilty, so we won our lawsuit. It was the most traumatizing experience of my life. I just absolutely cannot imagine what this family is going through. To actually lose your children? To someone so negligent. I empathize, sympathize, and feel so sorry for them. I hope they someway heal in time.

It’s absolutely crazy she isn’t in jail on no bond! Outrageous. That’s criminal in itself. This one is a danger to all of humanity.
Please don’t forget about the horse that she killed who was also an innocent soul that was traumatized and killed during this horrible crime. People seem to forget about the impact human recklessness has on an innocent animal who can feel pain as much as the human and they matter as much because they are sensitive aware beings.

I am a twin and my sister passed away, the day she passed away I told my boyfriend that I had a feeling something was going to happen to my sister. There is nothing I wouldn’t have done for my sister. Miss her everyday
My sister is 15 months older than me. We couldn't be closer even if we were identical twins. She is my best friend, my soulmate, truly. Even though I'm the younger sister, I was always the one that stuck up for my sister when she was bullied, I have gone rounds with her abusive ex, and I've been in more physical fights than I can count - for her. I have quite literally fought her battles when she couldn't or didn't have the courage to. I will drop ANYTHING if she calls for me, and yes, if she needs me to - I will. Period!

I’m an identical twin both made from the same egg and we are two totally different people. I do not feel her pain that’s ridiculous as a twin and my friends who are twins always laugh at that it’s not true, yes my sister and I was very close at one time threw the years we’ve grown apart but because we was as always together yes we could feel or finish our sentences but that’s like two very close friends can do that too. As far as physical pain I cannot feel her pain and she can’t feel mine, when younger we’d beat the crap out of one another periodically but that’s because we were to close. Fight over boys etc….. stupid stuff like that.
This is EXACTLY why bad things continue to happen… because nobody is being held responsible! When you murder someone with enough proof as this… you should absolutely be held in jail until you are proven not guilty.
I have fraternal twins (boy/girl) and they definitely feel the connection between each other and HATE being separated. I can't imagine how much closer they would be if they were identical.

i don’t have a twin sister but, my sister and I look alike growing up our mom dressed us the same until we were older we kinda dressed the same. but before we were adopted I had to care of my sister in way to protect her and made sure she was ok but we’re ok now and life’s good 😊
All I will say is that we’ve got too many people in this country who care more about the rights of criminals than justice for victims. They say the wheels of justice turn slow, but it’s starting to seem like if you commit a crime you’re better off than whoever you perpetrated that crime against. So sad for these LITERAL children that these two haven’t been arrested.
I have a twin sister, and we're also considered "mirror image" twins. I'm left handed, she's right handed, my cowlick is on the left side of my head, hers is on the right side .. Anyway, I call her my soulmate, because we do have a truly deep, special connection. I'd do anything for her ❤ But if she were to do something terrible, I come with the tough love. I won't condone her getting away with things she knows better than to do, and I know she'd do the same for me.

My two younger sisters are fraternal twins and they do pretty much everything together. They actually live next door to each other. They have their disagreements but if you mess with one or the other they will have each other's backs no matter what. As kids when my mom would discipline one of them the other would try to step in and protect each other.

I’m the youngest of 3. I was the only one who grew up with our mom when she got sick. I was 14 when it started. I’m 33 now. I took care of my mom instead of getting a “real job.” I was asked by my dad to do this. I did get paid but not the traditional way. Fast forward 17 years later she completely depended on me. I was very very burnt out. I begged for help from my 2 siblings. Nothing. I finally moved out at age 31 because I had found my future. I needed out of that house because my health was down the toilet. My sister and I never got along. But I hoped once adults, my siblings and I would get closer. Unfortunately, the poplar opposite. Both my older brother and older sister do not talk to me. I have no relationship with my nephew and nieces. It’s surreal. Turns out my mom would bad mouth me every time I didn’t do something right. Whether it was cleaning or shopping or driving her some where. It didn’t matter all that I did for her. So because of my mom, I have no siblings, no aunts, uncles, cousins who will talk to me. I had to accept that I will never know what my mother has said about me. She only continues the family cycle. She has a brother that she doesn’t talk to and I never grew to know that uncle or his wife and kids. And of course, they live 20 mins from me. Everyone else is 3 hours away. I can’t believe I’m 33 years old and no other family. I am very blessed with my husband and daughter though. ❤

I have twin sisters and I can tell you now, there is absolutely a connection. When my Mum passed and I was 20, they were 12. I raised them and all was well...
Until they reconnected 3yrs ago after my brothers death. They turned, and became so connected it was concerning. They have done some awful things and no matter what, stick together and reign hell on ppl. It is so sad and incredibly heartbreaking.
