- Опубликовано: 4 апр 2024
- " Nancy Crampton Brophy, 72, shot and killed her husband, Daniel Brophy, on June 2, 2018 at the now-closed Oregon Culinary Institute, where he was a well-respected instructor. She was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in September 2018, and was found guilty in May 2022 after a seven-week trial. She was sentenced to life in prison and is serving her sentence at the Coffee Creek Correctional Facility in Wilsonville, Oregon. At trial, the prosecution said Crampton Brophy, a novelist, plotted for months to kill her husband in order to cash in on his $1.4 million life insurance policy and own their $300,000 home." Outside of murd3er, requesting life insurance that soon is normal because not everyone has a burial policy and may need that money have the funeral, satisfying the estate, possibly having to bring the body home from another country, etc
You’re right. Life insurance is designed, in part, to help pay for final expenses. Funerals, burials, plots, etc are massive expenses that many people cannot afford out of pocket. We’re talking tens of thousands of dollars.
Wow,never thought of it like that.
@DogsnCakeHooray how do I find out if a parent that has passed had insurance?
She said she was bored but seems Daniel had a very fulfilling life with his students and hobbies. Each of us determines how we live our lives so her being bored is all on her.
Imagine the horror of those poor students finding their beloved teacher dead
Horrible
I'm 65 and I'm the oldest in my family every one else has passed I have no one but my daughter and granddaughter and brother who is 4 yrs younger. So very sad for this lady losing her son. My husband passed from cancer 21 yrs ago yesterday and I'd give anything for him to be here and we were married 25 yrs and 3 days when he passed away. 💔💔💔
I’m so sorry for your loss. My husband and I will be celebrating our 26 year wedding anniversary May 2 and I can’t imagine losing him ❤
I'm so sorry for your loss
God Bless you 🙏🏻
@@nicolebryant2419 Thank you. My daughter was only 9 at the time so she basically grew up without a Dad because he got cancer wen she was 5 and it went into remission then on Sept 11,2001 we found out it came back and lost him in 2003. Thanks guys my Faith in God is the only thing that has gotten me this far. I still have my days of crying and missing him like yesterday then I have days I can think about him without crying. Hug your husband because unlike Brophy they can be taken.💔❤️
Bless you ❤.
God bless you, sweetie! When I was very young I married a man who was 10 years older than myself. I was only married to him for 10 years and my world turned upside down and all around, when he was killed by a gang. I am sooooo sorry for your loss! Everyone, in my family is dead, but my 2 grown children. I am soooo blessed to have them, both, in my life!
Christina! Have loved watching you over the years. Your story is incredible. Thank you for always reminding me to drink more water. And although you don’t say it anymore, I still wake my kids every morning saying, “Good morning my lovelies, my beauties, my kids.” Much love from South Africa 🇿🇦
Awww that is so sweet!!! I hope the weather is nice over there for y’all in SA! ❤ send you and the family big hugs and lots of love! ❤❤❤❤
I Love it, after finding our Beautiful Friend CR I always say the same thing. Good Morning, My Lovelies, my Beauties, My Friends 😂❤❤❤

I have a friend here on YT that lives in SA his name or wat he goes by is Evil Exists. Check him out if you haven't he does shorts.❤️💙
She also doesn't remind people to be kind to everyone anymore. It was just a nice tag line she had but at this point I think she's over the niceties and is just here for the paycheck, you can see it in the quality and style of her content. Happens to most creators eventually
My heart is broke to see the mum speak out. I love elderly people as well... .99 per of the time they sweet and kind and we should cherish them
I went to Western Culinary Institute in 1998 and Chef Brophy was my ala cart teacher I liked him very much he was a great teacher he and his wife also owned a catering company that a lot of students worked for too. He was a mushroom hunter I remember him telling us stories about hunting mushrooms. This story is very sad. Thank you for covering it. I love you and listen all the time I just don't comment often thank you for all your hard work and for bringing us all these case's!
You should look at the Terri Schiavo case that happened in florida in 1990, it's crazy that a judge would let her starve to death in the hospital. Love your videos!!!
I second looking into this case.
I remember this
I'll nvr forget that case 😢 and there was another lady who been thru the same condition and fully recovered, she did an interview and said you are fully aware of everything and that Terry being starved to death would have felt it all and understood what was happening to her. She was just stuck trapped in her own body like a prisoner 😫 can you imagine her parents, having to watch her suffer and die and it would be illegal for them to give her some water or food
I miss my grandparents as they have all passed away due to cancer. I would love to find an adopt a grandparent program but no luck so far.

*WTF?! How in hell did they come up with SECOND DEGREE?! This was MOST DEFINITELY first degree, PREMEDITATED!!*
My only guess is no murder weapon

It's a peculiarity of Oregon law. But 2nd is punished almost the same as 1st.

My grandma passed away last year after a 4 year long battle with cancer, she was and is still a true warrior in my memories. Cherish your elders while you can! I miss my grandma every day.

I’m an Oregon native and so surprised I haven’t heard this case before! My aunt is sadly in the same facility as her too
I am in Oregon too (sadly) and I don't recall this case either...
Close to home here! I am an hour and a half away.
Me too, I was born there, now I’m more curious about it. How very sad. A great teacher is one of the best achievements in life.
You're the type of neighbor I wish I had😂 I would always stop and talk the tea with you❤
☺️🤗☺️
*Seriously.. how dang amazing would it be to have Christina as your neighbor?!*
*She'd probably get tired of me coming over to visit and talk!*
😂
What does that mean? Talk the tea????
@@kathiemccann5959
*Just means talk about current events, basically*
😁
@@kathiemccann5959 In slang, "tea" is a term used to refer to gossip or inside information. It is often used in the phrase "spill the tea" or "serve the tea," which means to share juicy or exclusive details about a situation or person.
This loving, hardworking man who enjoyed teaching others deserved so much better. It's hard to believe she wrote about how to murder your husband when she literally did the one thing that always gets people caught. Thank goodness they're dumb enough to use the web, though. Just selfish.
Thank you, Christina. We love you!
Edit: Regarding the insurance policies, it really depends on the situation I believe. My daughters father passed from an OD, and within the week after my grandmother took me to apply for SSI benefits for our daughter. I was entirely numb and pretty much doing what I had to to get through the day. In my situation it was necessary, but an unsolved murder is entirely different and even with both situations I can 100% say money was and would not be my main priority. Period.
14:59 yes it’s normal. “You haven’t even buried them yet, you haven’t had a funeral”!?!?
How do you think funerals are paid for? Cremation starts around $2,000. Burial can start at $5-15k depending on where you live and funeral homes will NOT collect the body from the morgue until payment is made IN FUll.
Most people don’t have thousands in savings & HAVE to collect the insurance money just to take care of final expenses.
These places don’t advertise the payment in full aspect, and when you need them you have no options. I had to do a gofundme for my dad because he let his insurance lapse. That insurance was supposed to cover the $2700 cremation. I’d have been trying to cash out the day he died if he’d still had it. The moment I realized he’d remain in the morgue until I paid in full. It was horrible & people need to realize that it’s expensive and you can’t make payments.
Unless someone has enough to cover final expenses in savings, there is nothing suspicious about trying to collect insurance money immediately.
where i live the funeral hones collect home deaths unless police say otherwise. even in overdose death that was suspicious imo but he stayed in their business unltil paid for in full before cremation
This woman is absolutely horrible and deserves everything she gets 😡 I feel so deeply for his Mom 😢 Greed makes people do evil things. You definitely hit the nail on the head when you said “For the LOVE of money is the root of all evil” it sure is 😔 I hope you and your family have a great weekend as well! Hugs! 💖🌸💜
You’re not wrong, Christina! The biggest red flag for Law Enforcement in a murder case is : Do they have Life Insurance, and who is the beneficiary, and is the suspect hot to get the payout. Nancy ticks those same boxes.
And it's usually a spouse or child. In regards to how quick someone is wanting the payout, isn't some life ins supposed to be there to help take care of funeral expenses? Even an innocent spouse might want an immediate payout in that circumstance. I just wonder how long a waiting period needs to be for it to not be considered overzealous or suspicious...
@@Katz_Pajamasexactly! It’s $2,000-$15,000 for burial or cremation and funeral homes will not collect the body until paid in full.
A lot of people don’t have that laying around. I literally had nightmares about my dad being left in the morgue, held hostage until I could come up with thousands of dollars.
There’s no such thing as trying to get insurance money too soon. Every hour I thought of him. He’d let his insurance lapse & I was begging family & had a gofundme. It was horrible.
Everyone needs to know 1. Funeral homes & crematoriums require payment in full to collect the body and 2. You can prepay your final expenses so your family doesn’t have to worry about it and they don’t have to try to rush the insurance payout. That money can just go to helping them get by without you.
If a spouse does have $20k in the bank & is demanding a $200k payout, it’s sus. But usually it’s just people who want to get their loved one off a cold slab in a hospital morgue as soon as possible.
Your a queen how respectful are you to sympathise for us elders we appreciate you my darling much love from South Wales 🏴 in the uk 🇬🇧 🙏🏻❤️
My SIL had to file a claim right away to have $ to bury my brother. They didn’t own a home or have any credit cards. If they were that bad off financially, that may have been the situation as well.
Nooooo no more intro??? Lol. I havent been able to watch you for a bit, but I always spoke the intro with you!! It was so fun! Why’d you stop it? Love your videos! 💕👍
I also loved the positive music at the end. Apparently, she's taken the advice of the people that didn't care for either of those.
Yes ma’am…. Drinking my water and taking the dog for long walks everyday. I hear you and already down 15lbs … love the energy

RIP Chef Dan Brophy! A truly wonderful and talented man. I'm sure his family misses him dearly (Nancy excluded). She is the Wooorst.
I met her last night. Long story but I have a family member in same facility. Nancy walked up to me as a greeter and I almost said “where do I know you from?” Thought it through and realized it was probably from the news. I just said hi. Crazy experience.
Hi Christina love from Ireland 🇮🇪 thank you for always being you😊 You are my favourite person to watch I literally sound off your introduction every time 🙈 please do not show hate to anybody, anywhere 👏👏❤
Thank you for sharing this with us! How tragic for the sweet man and his parents, students. I love how you brought up the scripture about the LOVE of money is the root of all evil! 🙏🏻
Just to answer the life insurance question. You generally file for any and all life insurance as part of the funeral planning process. In fact the funeral home usually files it for you to ensure they get their take. Without the life insurance it would be very difficult to pay for funeral expenses especially these days! That said I think greed drives some of these people and they think they can pass it off as standard procedure.
Hi Christina, hope you and your family have a great weekend.. I was hoping you would cover this case. Ty
Girl I watched this whole trial, and she mentioned that article so the prosecutor DID read it to the jury…it was excluded until she opened the door to it.
Love your personal story, love seeing your new house, how hard you worked and including your extended family.❤
I don’t understand how she got convicted of second degree murder! Isn’t planning a murder, driving there & committing that murder first degree???
Yes and because she did it and knew other people would find him, she should get charged with their traumatisation
Yep, she is a monster alright. Thanks Christine for bringing up God's warning in scripture. "The LOVE of money/things is the root of all evil". Here is another. "What will it profit a man/woman to gain the whole world, and lose their soul"
God is good.
MARANATHA !!!
Goddess i posted a comment on one of your other videos and i have watched your 4 year ago videos and i laughed my butt off my goodness, your personality is classic you remind me of my homegirls i grew up with in pinellas park and st Pete years and years ago, my 5 year old daughter thinks your sooo cool lol, just wanted to say im glad you turned your life around and actually became an amazing woman and mother, much luv from Pinellas county we all watch your channel...One.
Christina, I agree, elderly people have such a special place in my heart. I think it's because my great grandparents and grandparents raised me. Not many of them are left, but I'm my grandpa's caretaker now and we live in like a duplex situation because he's still able to do everything for himself for the most part. I'm so blessed to see him everyday and he's an active part of my son's life too. 🥰 this case made me sick. That poor man, his poor parents. I can't imagine how heartless you'd have to be to take the life of someone so loved and someone that gave so much of his life to his community. Ugh. I hope you and your family have a great weekend as well 🥰

Soooo happy to see a new video drop! I look forward to Fridays bc of your videos.
Literally just hopped on this video but I’m so glad I finally get to hear about this from you Christina💕! I remember hearing about it on tv but never in depth! 😬
I’m 60 and have been widowed 7 years. Both my parents are gone and I’m an only child. My son was 21 when is daddy died. He was sick for 10 years and wasn’t expected to pass. I would give anything to have my parents and husband back. I just don’t get it. 😢 Thank you, My Dear, for covering this.
My Mom passed away 6 years ago and we got ahold of her insurance right away. The funeral home was in touch with them and getting information so they could get paid. If you have life insurance and you don't have much money, you get it to pay for your funeral so that your kids don't have to try to figure out how they're going to pay for it.
I just wanted to let you know that I adore your channel & your energy. I love the way you present the cases! I have been watching/listening true crime for years and I always get excited when you have a new video!!
I had never heard of this…. My mama is.a Very young 88! Fit, fearless, and awesome. Trying to get her to move back to VA Beach from Ky, or at least split her time. Miss her very much!
You got me really wanting to read her book now, I’m intrigued 😅
😂
Love your content! I'm answering your question about insurance. For people who dont have a lot of money on hand/savings but do have life insurance, yes it is common to file for the life insurance before the funeral. In fact, most funeral homes will coordinate that for you because they want to get paid for their services. At least where I am from in KY, thats how it works. It is a little different if the people have savings accounts that could cover the funeral costs and are getting a large sum. I think police are suspicious when it's a large payout, moreso than the timing. Just my opinion. Have a great weekend!
Have I requested a cult story enough? 🤣 but please? A long one I could listen to you for 6 hrs!
Also, please keep us updated on Sebastian Rogers!
YESSSSS! So happy you posted! I’m trying to finish shoveling up here in New Hampshire! Lots of snow but you gave me a reason for a break! 😂
Girrrrrl that’s some real work! 💪🏼 I hope you have a great weekend Courtney! ❤
His mum 😢 I watched my gran lose 2 sons before her own passing and they both passed of natural illness. One of which was my dad and they both broke her heart going before her, I then lost my little girl 11 months after losing her and the pain is unreal. I would lay down happily and die a painful death to know my baby girl could live. I can’t imagine the pain that poor woman felt having him taken so cruelly. Nothing but love and peace to his family and those that loved him ❤
I am so glad you have changed your intodoction.,i use to cringe everytime you said that this is for entertainment purposes but you are about to talk about tragic things. I’ve always loved you and I now I love you more ❤️❤️❤️ your channel will grow my Angel even more

I was locked up with Nancy in county and she was one of the sweetest most kind, caring and generous women in there. I was sick and scared and miserable and she was very very kindhearted so it’s super shocking to hear her backstory because she didn’t talk about it or anything, life is a trip man

Hi Christina, I hope you’re have an amazing and blessed weekend. Yes I’m staying hydrated but I’m a nervous wreck cause it was a earthquake in New York and my daughter lives there. She’s OK. I know when my dad passed away. My mom didn’t file the insurance until after he was buried and that was because she needed it because we had six kids. YES!!! I was hoping so as well. So far I can't find anybody that has covered it.
I watched the whole trial, and the amount of light and kindness Daniel brought into this world was extremely special. Such a tragedy, such a beautiful soul gone through extremely cruel intentions 💔

A lot of insurance companies have started writing new large value life insurance policies in a way that they can't be paid out in a lump sum.

When it comes to life insurance, a lot of people cash it in before the funeral/burial since they usually need that money to pay for those things.

Love your videos! When my mom passed I was completely numb and I mean NUMB. If her death had of been “suspicious “ they may have thought I did it bc at first it really didn’t register to me that I’d never see her again. I don’t think there’s a “mold” for how a person should grieve. As far as the insurance, my mom had life insurance and I had to file for her insurance a day after she passed in order to pay for her funeral. The funeral home refused to even schedule her funeral until I had the paperwork proving the policy. But this lady definitely did this
Woohoo! Made it within first minute of upload! 🥳
