I think it they should be charging $200-300 range. Have you wore a $100 helmet? I think you have to give them more credit than that…..tho they shouldn’t cheap out with the pads tho and blocking ppl from reviewing the cons of the helmets is just bad policy from a company and is coming back to bite them in the ass. I like their style and hope they learn from this and make a better product for the price.

Background: I've sold helmets in motorcycle gear shops for about 5 years. Brands I've most experience with, in no particular order: X-Lite/Nolan, Shoei, Arai, HJC, Scorpion, Schuberth, iXS, and then less experience with many other brands we sold less of. However, I'm NOT a motorcycle helmet designer, safety tester, materials engineer etc.
First impressions, before you even started the detailed breakdown, looking at the split helmets from side on:
    - Shell:
    - The Ruroc shell is a lot thinner. It may be all or partially carbon fiber - but it's important to question whether being carbon fiber makes a shell "better".
    - Some of the major brands aren't very keen on building 100% carbon fiber helmets. Helmet shells need to balance multiple ways of behaving with impacts. Most premium helmets use multiple layers of different materials for the shell, including fiberglass, aramids and carbon fiber. Thus, often even the "carbon" options from the brands usually just include *more* carbon fiber in the mix rather than being all CF.
When Arai built the RX-7V RC, a carbon model ofthe RX-7V, they developed their own proprietary carbon manufacturing technology and the helmet costs over 3000€.
    - I'm unsure whether HJC and Scorpion models are 100% carbon fiber as it's not immediately obvious from the websites. However, while the HJC website says, for example, that the RPHA 11 Carbon has a carbon fiber outer shell, the catalogue itself states it has a PIM+ Carbon shell. The catalogue also explains that a PIM+ shell is a multi layer design with, again, fiberglass, aramids, carbon fiber, carbon-glass hybrid fiber and organic fabric.
    - A notable exception is Arai's shell design which just uses fiberglass. They use different shell thicknesses and special features to make some parts of the helmet more rigid. Still, if you go out to a shop today and squeeze, flex and whack on different helmets, you'll notice Arais tend to be a lot more rigid than others. Whether that's a good thing is unknown. Arai says that a helmet's shell must be as rigid as possible to allow a softer EPS foam liner, while for example Shoei says that the shell should flex in order to participate in impact dispersion.
    - So back to the cutouts: While being 100% CF might allow a thinner shell that's as hard as a thicker multi-material shell, I'm not sure that's entirely a good thing. Notable is also that the Ruroc seems to be fairly uniform in thickness, while the Shoei employs different thicknesses of the shell in different areas.
    - The shape of the shells seems comparable, which I'm happy to see. The new ECE 22/06 helmet standard tests for glancing impacts, which for example Arai has been raving about for decades. The two first helmets to pass the new test were the Arai Quantic and the Shoei NXR2 (the RF-1400's name in Europe). An important factor of glancing impact performance is that the shell shouldn't have too many protruding parts, so I'm glad to see Ruroc hasn't gone too far there.
    - Let's move on to the EPS liner:
    - The expanded polystyrene (EPS) liner is the part right under the shell. It's the primary shock absorbing part of the helmet. Premium helmets often feature different densities of EPS in their EPS liner. For example Shoei constructs the EPS liner from several parts in strategic areas of the liner, to account for different impact characteristics, while Arai uses a single piece liner but it's made by injecting different densities of EPS into the same mold.
    - From just the side on image I can't see any different parts to the Ruroc EPS liner. However, I also couldn't say whether they were using an Arai-like multi-density single mold technology. It seems unlikely, though.
    - Now the comfort liner:
    - The comfort liner also plays a function for helmet safety: It participates somewhat in impact absorption, and crucially it keeps the helmet in place and in the right orientation. It also absorbs rotational energy. While some manufacturers have incorporated rotational dampers such as MIPS, others rely on the comfort liner sliding between itself and the EPS liner. Apparently as Arai and Shoei's new helmets have passed ECE 22/06, this works too.
    - Comfort itself shouldn't be overlooked either. A hot, sweaty, uncomfortable rider could have a harder time focusing on riding. And nobody wants to get skin problems from their helmet either. Fortunately I haven't heard of the latter in any great numbers.
    - The comfort liner is usually the first place to wear in a helmet. This could mean a less safe helmet if the helmet begins to move on your head due to the compressed or worn out liner, and of course a worn liner means a miserable experience in using the helmet.
    - From the quick fitting and ride review, you can tell the Ruroc, while probably the correct size, doesn't adequately stay in the right position.
    - I can't tell from just images how well the Ruroc comfort liner moves against the EPS liner.
    - The Shoei seems to have at least better looking materials than the Ruroc.
    - The visor:
    - The main difference I can see here is that particular shape of the Ruroc's visor and visor opening.
    - First, the up and down viewing angle is more restricted. A smaller visor opening could mean a more protective shell in the front area, yet it also makes it harder to see the instruments of your bike.
    - The intricate bottom of the visor opening of the Ruroc could lead to problems with the fitting of the visor into the opening and the gasket, which in turn would lead to whistling and water ingress. The gasket itself also needs to be more intricate, which makes me wonder how well it will last.
    - Neither helmet uses a flip down sun visor. Some love those, but they do have drawbacks as well. The helmet needs to be larger in the forehead area, and the EPS liner is not as securely connected to the shell of the helmet. Also, the helmet can't be ventilated from the forehead area. Of course a sun visor also adds weight and complexity to the side of the helmet.
    - Testing:
    - Any helmet sold in the EU for motorcycle use must have an ECE 22/05 certificate if they are an existing model, or an ECE 22/06 certificate for new models. Further, organizations such as Sharp, FIM and a french Sharp-type scheme test helmets and give a consumer-comparable rating. Theoretically then, all helmets sold in the EU should be safe.
    - However, a fairly recent test ordered by the Swedish Testfakta.se showed that helmets on the market with the appropriate certification had potential safety issues. In the test, two helmets out of eight tested failed the rear impact test. They had struck the back of the helmets in the curb test in a 90 degree angle instead of the 45 degree angle specified in the ECE test, which had made the helmets fail. The question is, are you always going to meet the curb at a strict 45 degree angle? See the Testfakta.se articles at www.testfakta.se/sv/mc-hjalmar/article/mc-hjalmar-klarar-inte-sakerhetskraven-i-test and www.testfakta.se/sv/article/mc-hjalmar-byggda-standardens-krav . Google Translate does a pretty good job there.
    - Further, all tests including ECE, Sharp and so on, have a specific set of tests they do at specific angles, orientations, velocities etc. The challenge is to remain fair to manufacturers, uniform in testing methods, applicable to real life, and labour and cost effective. The new ECE 22/06 added several new impact sites to be selected at random, and a whole host of other improvements. RUclips has a few good videos from Bennet's Bike and Moto Legends for example. Check them out!
    - Whether a helmet has achieved a particular rating or test certificate is not all you should consider.
    - Final considerations:
    - After five years of selling helmets, my *personal* philosophy for choosing a helmet is:
    1) Buy a helmet that fits your head shape, feels good, and suits your *riding position and style*. Realize that different helmets suit differrent uses Realize also, that manufacturers use different head shapes, which yours might match up with or not. Try before you buy!
    2) Buy from a helmet maker you genuinely trust to give you a product that's safe and high quality. I look first and foremost for: A long continuous history of designing and manufacturing helmets, an in house designing and manufacturing style (i.e. I want to buy my helmet from a company who manufacturers helmets, not a company that designs the helmet and pays some other factory for building them), and a strong emphasis on self-testing and quality assurance. Consider customer care, parts availability and so on as well.
    3) Get the model of helmet you need and want, don't save or overpay with helmets. After that price difference is forgotten in a couple of months all I'm left with for the next 5-7 years is the actual physical product, which I will be putting on my head every time I go out for a ride.
Now, I'm going to get on with the rest of the video :)

You beat me to the punch! I was about to do the *same thing!* You did a great job. The Ruroc pads are such a piece of junk, and you showed that beautifully.
Their shell is also junk. Carbon fiber doesn’t mean better, and in fact it doesn’t even mean stronger (people equate rigidity to strength, but that isn’t true). CF has a very specific application that doesn’t become beneficial until you reach track speeds. Their marketing is dependent on people not being engineers. 😁
Also a note on fitment: people are finding the smalls too small and the larges too large, which means the fitment issue is far more than a pad thickness issue.
There also seems to be a notable reduction in protection to make space for the Bluetooth.

Second, my point is that Ruroc repeatedly tries to put down other helmets because they don’t use CF and are therefore inferior, and that simply isn’t true. It is 1,000% possible for any company to use CF and make a junk shell. It’s just a material.

Snell is garbage. It's meant for race car drivers hitting the same spot twice but for motorcycles it increases the chances of a concussion. That's why I always bought my Shoei outside the US since they don't adhere to SNELL standards aka the reason why the names are different. The heavier dense Snell US version is called RF1200 and the globally sold softer lighter version of it is called NXR. You ever make an impact in that US version, you're gonna be bedridden for days because guaranteed more energy will be transferring to your brain.

I pre-ordered Ruroc's SlipStream 3.0 Helm the day sales went live.
I waited 4 months and still no helmet. I went with my gut and ended up cancelling my order.
As soon as I got the $$ back in my account, I headed straight to RevZilla and ordered Shoei's RF-1400 Dedicated 2.

I have an RF-1200 and two Atlas 2.0's. Bought the Toxin on release because of the design and the Shogun in the Garage Sale, so half off. I ride daily, commute to work, go on spirited rides, practice in the parking lot, etc. etc. So I ride in all weathers at all speeds and conditions. My Toxin, which I received in May of 2020 is pretty much nearly unusable at this point. The pads are so worn down that it feels like my helmet is 2 sizes too big only after 1 year with moderate to heavy use. I've had my RF-1200 since December 2019 and it still fits like day 1. I've said that Ruroc's helmets are decent, but price to price my RF-1200 is leaps and bounds above my Ruroc and the SHOEI RF-1200 was released 6 years before the 2.0.... so yeah..... This video is a HUGE eye opener, because I don't want to cut open my helmets lol. You've got my sub and my support going forward. Thank you!

I got one of the HJC Marvel helmets when it went discontinued and honestly I bought it thinking it would just be a wall hanger but I like the helmet. Not as much as my Shoei but I use the HJC to go to and from work.
Now I bought a RUROC with the Soundwave and everything because I thought it looked cool, didn't see to many reviews on it but it was what they called a "blemished" helmet. It was 200 dollars cheaper. Went ok sold, bought it...I've got a head size where medium hats, helmets etc...are to big and smalls are to tight so I usually go medium and even I the summer I wear a head band to help the fit. Also saves the wear and tear on my pads. Even with the head band it was to big to he point I could almost spin it around like I was about to start speaking in tongues.
Went hmm well let's see how it rides. Had the same issue with the pin lock being in my vision. And even just rolling 30 mph down the street the wind noise made the Bluetooth absolutely worthless. There's no point in having it if you have to wear ear plugs to drown out the sound.
I've had 3 negative reviews taken down and challenged by RUROC.
Oh I will say, my customer service experience was....ehhh at best. The scratch and dent helmet they sent me was different than the one I purchased. Same model but different design and the "blemish" looked to be a big road rash mark on the side of the helmet. So I sent an email, a picture of what I received and the confirmation of what I ordered and they did eat the shipping and they did replace the helmet with the one I ordered...which was in much better shape. It looked like it had been lightly dropped but like it fell off handle bars onto the pavement. It did take almost 8 weeks from ordering to actually get the correct helmet.

I like the look of these helmets and they have some cool graphics, the same way as I like the look of some of the icon lids, the issue I have is that if your gonna push your helmet as premium you need to be able to back that up or your gonna be found out, especially when people are paying top dollar. Being from the UK myself I'd like to see these do well but I feel they have cut soo many corners like who the fuck tested these lids in the first place, because looking at the lads who own the company I don't think any of them ride bikes, and surely they could of got of got a bunch of top end lids and stripped them down to see what makes a premium helmet. If these helmets were priced reasonably or not pushed as top end I think they would have been received quite well as the design of the lid is good and with a few improvements it could be a great helmet, but they're been branded as premium even with this shit stuffed in as a so called liner. I'm still not sure how they can't get them approved for the track or why they won't send there helmet out for independent safety testing, OK rant over 🤣 before I start with all these clown on RUclips pushing these lids as the best, I just feel sorry for the people who have to work hard and save up money only to be let down.

Had a Altas 2. Took forever to come and was poorly size. Customer service was a joke but got there in the end. Once I started to ride with it could not go over 30mph with out the wind noise killing my ears. The shock wave as well died twice.
Cheap helmit sold expensively, after 2 weeks it was put out of use and scorpion evo 1400 air was put in to action. It was like night and day. Same price point but the difference was incredible. Now I tell every one if you want to buy gear ( especially stuff that may have to try to save you life one day ) buy from brands that have been in the game for a long time and have the knowledge and experience in the field.

If only Ruroc could get their shit together in small things like this, along with the unique look of their helmets, they could easily have a killer helmet all around. they will even remove or not even allow critical posts to be posted on there facebook pages and now getting to the vent part they sell a plug for that vent thing area so if not really being a real vent and having you buy a plug to cut the noise ya im not getting one of those anymore

Why do people praise ruroc so much anyway? It is not even a good looking helmet at least

Absolutely fantastic comparison!! I currently wear a Simpson Ghost Bandit and admittedly bought it cuz i had a Street Bandit and knew it would fit me as well. Good helmet, great look and fit, but probably overpriced. Was seriously considering the Ruroc due to several moto vlogger reviews, to which i later found out didn't pay for their helmets. I also thought the fact they had their own com thingy was cool too, but have yet to hear of anyone being happy with it. Anyway, thanks for spending your money and time on this video. I'll be looking into Shoei for sure!!

Super useful breakdown. I own Ruroc 2.0 and love it. I also knew I was buying from a company new to the game and was buying a style more than anything. Thanks to this I’ll know a little more to look for next time to make a more informed decision. I hope they try to take the criticism more constructively as they grow cause I would like to continue to support them

That is one of the biggest issues with Ruroc though. They just ban or censor anyone that has anything negative to say about their products. That's not a company that cares about making a good product, only making money.

@@vietladin that is something that bothers me as a 2.0 owner aswell. It just seems dishonest to supress any critisism, while its painfully obvious that they know that there is a big discussion about the safety of the helmets, because they started to post videos of them being tested everywhere. If they just released a statement that they received the reviews and opinions and then they sit down to really create a helmet thet lives up to the commercials, and send them out to dealers for people to try them on in person, they could be a big player. But they just go for the money.

What should concern you more, is that the helmet is about as safe as a bicycle helmet. Maybe good up to 20-25mph. Heard people in small crash nearly dying. get your self a real helmet, before it kills you.

It doesn’t seem that the Ruroc is a bad helmet. Just over priced for what you get.

Very effective way of analizing the product. I wish I came accros your video before I made this horible mistake buying a Ruroc. In regards of the size...they invented so cold comfort kit (bit thicker cheek pads) so they can charge extra money cause they now the sizing is not even close to standard....good work man.

I was going to get a ruroc, thank you for giving an honest video and actually showing both helmets in the form that they are, not being sponsored to say one is better. Thank you

Ruroc is trying to sell direct to my country without complying with local laws. My country only allows for double-D ring helmets and require local inspection certification, and many major brands actually swap out their ratchet strap for D-rings and send their helmets for inspection. I will not trust a brand that does not even try to comply with laws

I had a Ruroc Atlas 2.0 last year. it's a poor design that let fly's and water in from the top vents which you couldn't close even. I pursued them for a full refund which I eventually got after leaving a review in trustpilot. It doesn't even fit so it's not even safe to ride in. I even got shadow banned on RUclips for telling people what I BS helmet this really is. It's your safety guys stick to a proven brand that actually do proper testing and research on there product.

Yeah it was lucky you’re in the UK or you wouldn’t have got your money back. It’s an overpriced ornament at best and is putting riders lives at risk, that’s my opinion… just saying 🤷🏻‍♀️

Thank you for this video. Honestly this is a super cool looking helmet. But for the price that they’re asking for I just don’t see the value. Their marketing is amazing but the price, the way that paid you tubers make it look. Compared to a real consumer, it just sucks as someone who’s trying to make a big purchasing decision

Remember everyone, it is the secondary/tertiary impacts (your brain hitting the inside of your skull after your skull hits the hard foam through the cheap liner) which cause the most serious brain injuries. I'd much rather pay a bit more for proven protection that doesn't manipulate reviews. Thanks for spending the money destroying these helmets to help riders get accurate information.

Thanks for cutting them open for us, it shows alot. Other helmet brand use white EPS painted black so if it's damaged it shows up clearly. But you could see the Ruroc helmet has black EPS with no way of telling if it's damaged.

Those Ruroc helmets look amazing but any amount of research will tell you they are not worth your money. Buying a Ruroc just seems like a vanity choice to me, but plenty of good helmets look awesome, so I have no idea why people keep buying them.

Ultimately I got my money back from Ruroc, it took them over six months and many broken promises for them to send me the wrong helmet. I really really wanted to love Ruroc but in the end I’m happy that I got my money back. Now it’s time for me to search for a new helmet which I bet will not take six months for delivery
