Luffy is brutally honest, care free, strong, loyal, smarter than he lets on (usually in battle), always thinks about food and being King of the Pirates.
He has no sense of direction and doesn't really care how strong anybody is, he's willing to die in search of the One Piece.
He's normally very simple and direct in his approach too.

One Piece is a hilarious, heart warming, hype inducing, lore heavy, masterpiece. It takes time for the world to open up but it definitely goes very interesting places and tackles a lot of heavy topics. It's, for sure, worth the time investment. I'm along for the ride so I hope you like it!

Don't worry, Loony Toons is a very apt descriptor. There's no negative connotation on either side to call One Piece similar to LT. But you did wonder if it can get deep - yes.
The previous pirate king found the One Piece, which is a legendary treasure that sent pirates to the seas.
Oh, don't worry, the Live Action does fit the vibe, but so does the start. It's that kind of flexible.

I like when you said it’s just a vibe and if you are having fun now, it definitely feels like you will like what will be coming up.

It's so good that you know nothing, be careful to avoid spoilers as best as you can! I was spoiled about some important things, but they still hit hard and surprised me, and that's just proof of the amazing writing One Piece has! If you end up watching the full series, you can skip most of the filler if you feel like it, except the G8 arc, it's really fun.
Man, I'm so happy for you, I wish I could experience One Piece again for the first time!

I always say this, but One Piece is a vibe. It is fun and adventurous and epic, but most importantly it's a vibe. Also it's one of the only pieces of fiction(movies, tv series, manga, books, anime etc) that it just keeps getting better and better and better. Today is the 26 anniversary of the manga, yet the last few chapters/episodes were some of the best in the series. For me One Piece is the epitomy of adventure and fun.

It’s such a fun show and the world building expands along with understanding of the characters’ true pasts and proverbial baggage and how all of it goes with their character development where dialogue will completely recontextualise events from 900 chapters before into something completely different… I definitely recommend starting with this through episode 4 or 5 cause that’s the intro to koby/saving koby meeting important characters story arc that’s just a small intro to a bunch of things which each set of mini story arcs reveal about the characters… but you’re only able to assume or guess things til it shocks you with short dialogue and maybe a small flashback…
But definitely worth watching the earlier arcs in chunks… later you kinda Need bigger chunks of it… but episode one isn’t even where the manga starts… they moved some things for the sake of flow or something but it works this way
Enjoy the ride man… someone in a one piece tuber discussion server dropped link to your vid with positive reviews and honestly I can Tell already you’re gonna get what you desire and more from the impression you’ve given… Welcome aboard man! Its a helluva ride… The world govt in the story is Almost as bad as the Real Life World Government which probably inspires much of the narrative… but don’t speculate that heavy til way later when you live off wild theories hehe some come true but some are completely different than most normal speculations… Oda has a lot of fun with the audience’s expectations and beliefs and you really see more looking back the more you know from the story… Can’t recommend reading the manga casually enough cause you’ll probably burn through it quick! It’s hard to stop in some places and you always know at some points it’s going to be “peak fiction” as I frequently hear exclaimed around… well most chapters past year hehe
A lot of your initial thoughts will seem funny later on cause of some things you thought that are like a way lighter vanilla version of what Oda has coming over the next few hundred chapters or so… even in east blue a lot of important stuff gets done that parallels elements of things later in ways no one realises til it’s pointed out… So much happens so quickly though the live action has chopped the arc down to a few hours somehow and I don’t know how well it’ll sell the story but It probably will get people Really enjoying the anime or manga as a result…
Such a fun ride the start of the story… which I can’t even use the appropriate words to characterise the Grandeur of it because of Spoilers and so on hehe but you don’t need to know that stuff for a while I’d imagine hehehe
Really have fun with this story man! It’s a battle comedy that gets way more serious and dramatic while the humour always carries on as the narrative evolves with the understanding of the world…
I really doubt you’d be disappointed from what you already seem to think so Just keep Vivian with the memorable soundtrack yeah?! : D

One thing people find confusing when I say I don't really care about the show but LOVE the author is that I mean I am really impressed with the author. Like the techniques he is using and ALL the frigging references and how much knowledge he has about the world is incredibly impressive. I have really tried to find a book I like from I was little, just a person/author that impresses me. And I am always a person who wants more from the sunrise. And what I love and is impressed about is that its one big story, while other authors tend to split it up in sections and just continue for the money or something. This was planned out when the author was 20 and more than 20 more years in the future. We see characters in the first 10 episodes that doesn't really get a proper introduction or are explained why they are there until hundreds of episodes later. And that's with hundreds of characters too. If your down with storytelling and techniques in that era you will be embarrassed to have called any other author "geniuses"

It DEFINITELY has that depth. This is a story about found family, tyrannical governments, lost history and just... adventure. It's all one long story that meshes together perfectly, while fleshing out the wider world that is so much more dark then you'll realize for a LONG time.

One piece means so much to me and I’m happy to see so many people react to it and I’m here for it. The first episode is very different from the first chapter of the manga which is much better but still I like it a lot! It is one of the greatest stories that I have ever read/watched/heard. And really glad you feel like going even if the not for the views!
Will watch the next ep of your reactions though!

One Piece is hard to nail down as truly any one things aside, perhaps, as a story about adventure. On the one hand it is absolutely a silly, goofy, fun show about pirates with gimmicks. On the other hand, it's a story that has some of the greatest world building, emotional beats, and poignant commentary on the real world that you're likely to find in almost any piece of media. I am not being hyperbolic when I say that One Piece is a modern day epic in every way except that it isn't a poem. There are parts of this series in which I swear it is absolutely not meant for kids because of how deep and heavy the material gets. And yet, despite that, it never loses its sense of humor, the child-like wonder, and the sheer joy and fun of going on an adventure. And while the story takes a little bit to really find its feet and showcase what it's truly capable of, even the first few arcs are still lots of fun and very entertaining. Just realize that, as superficial and light as the show may seem at first, it is really only scratching the surface of what it's capable of ... and yet still never loses the charm and fun that is clearly on the tin.

Super glad you enjoyed this one - I can understand where you're coming from with FMA's contrast between exaggerated expressions for comedy and serious dark moments (though it works for me), all I'll say it that I think OP's serious moments (when they come) might work better for you because they stay in that exaggerated style and apply it to dramatic moments, rather than whiplashing between two vastly contrasting styles. We'll see though.

Very important! Have. Fun. One piece is just fun, its childish fun. It can be serious, it can be emotional, but its always an adventure.
Btw, prob need to do more than 1 episode, it used to air with like 4 or 5 episodes a day back to back. The format fits the early season the best. 1 ep per vid only rly works in the very late seasons

1997 so 90's but yeah. This anime is just PURE ADVENTURE.
Enter "That's a woman?" Meme for Alvida 😂
You'd be surprised but Oda actually changed quiet a bit how the anime opens up with them being out on sea as opposed to the manga. Luffy is the same age as Oda when Oda first became a mangaka writer, 17.
Hope you enjoyed the ride in this amazing and long story. 😁🍻🍖👒

The best advice any One Piece fan can give to someone new starting the show is just go until episode 45 to decide if your in for the long haul or not but trust me it's worth it This whole 1,000 plus episode show has been created by one guy Echiro Oda who the fans lovingly call GOda for his amazing writing abilities

Luffy’s alignment is hard to pin down. It is somewhere between chaotic neutral and chaotic good, but he does some lawful neutral things too.
Also, the name of Alvida’s ship is the “Ms Love Duck” which I don’t even know why I think is so fantastic.

People say that One Piece has a lot of filler? It's like... 9% filler out of 1070 episodes and 20 seasons isn't even close to a lot. They definitely do drag out some scenes in the anime though. Maybe that's what they mean? But that's... Fluff. Not filler.

Nerdy gets it! I'm currently in the middle of the manga and I haven't properly seen the anime outside of a couple of episodes, but this is a great first episode to set the tone of what One Piece can be like some of the time. It's an especially great introduction to Luffy, Coby, and Nami.

Great reaction for the 1st episode I would say.. And so you really pause when talking?! Nice bro👍🏻 People rarely doing that and they miss a lot of subtle foreshadow because they talk too much and never pause😭 It's always nice seeing new reactors react to One Piece, I'm obsessed with One Piece that I keep watching One Piece reaction like from 20-30 reactors or probably more🤣🤣🤣 I'm a bit slow to catch up on foreshadow and plot twist, so it's nice to see other people get it on the first watch, it's always mind blowing for me🔥 I'm the person that need to rewatching like 2-3 times to understand complicated things (complicated from my perspective btw) Watching anime reactions actually help me to understand more and appreciate more about the music, animation style, the arts and people in comments also sharing something from manga, I appreciate that a lot💜 So thank you🥰

First of all, welcome to the One Piece crew! Hope you enjoy the cruise.
One Piece has an excellent sense of balance between silly nonsense and deep moments/topics. You'll see glimpses of that in the next few story arcs, but it'll be one specific arc (which the live action's first season will climax with) where you'll see that balance in full. Its usually at that point where people go All-In on the series.
