This is hands down one of the best board game videos I've ever watched. Such a clear, clean, concise explanation of the rules. To think this was made 7 years ago is unbelieveable, just pure gold here
You're totally right Majo. The High Council hex is worth 7 total VP. 2 for having ships on that hex and then 5 additional VP. Thank you for pointing that out. I'll put a note on the video about that.
Totally agree! Not being played the game for years, I'm now ready for a game and explain it to my players after watching this great video! Thank you for sharing!
Excellent video, dude! Probably the BEST rules video I've ever seen on any boardgame. I wish u would do more, and have instantly subscribed so that i get alerted if u upload any more. I dont know what ur life situation is, but u could raise a LOT of money if u kickstarted ur channel, using this video as an example if the quality of your work. Especially games like TI3, Forbidden Stars, Blood rage. U could make according to ur backers' requests etc etc. Either way, all the best! Regards, Sal
Thank you so much for that great job, explaining it in detail. Also very good choice of music, because it isnt distracting while watching. Looking forward playing my first session :)
Thank you Ian! I took a break from making videos. I just played a game of Exodus with the Edge of Extinction expansion yesterday though. I came in last but it was fun and I was proud that my son beat me :)
I love what you have done there! More rule explanations could be so clear and well layed out! Respect! I wished you were doing the edge of extiction expansion as well, but can totally understand, that it is a bunch of work! (But maybe? :-) )
Excellent tutorial. I haven't played in a while and was looking for a refresher. I like that it's short and to the point and edited very well. What program did you use for the editing?
Majo R wrote: Each planet can have only 2 rockets? It is in rules? It's in the online pdf rulebook (page 7 under Buy Upgrades) on the NSKN website but it's not in the physical rulebook that came with the game. I checked with the designers and they said the online pdf rulebook is the most up to date. Sorry for the confusion on that one. I know in my first game we had piles and piles of rockets on each planet, whoops :)
Good tutorial. Unfortunately, I discovered a major rules error. The video states that the blueprints can be rearranged during the conquest stage. On page seven in the rulebook under the explanation of "Buy Upgrades" is written: "Players may freely rearrange Upgrades between ship blueprints at any time outside a conquest stage."
So at 4:15 you indicate that the refinery tech means you do the resource collection phase twice, reducing the counter twice. We read the rules to state that a player yields 2x resources for a single reduction of the counter. What is the source of your interpretation?
Hi Matthew, thanks for watching the video. On page 5 of the rule book it says: Decrease the Resource Counter... and add 1 Axinium to your Axinium track. If you have researched Axinium Refinery, you may repeat the process... "repeat the process" indicates that the resource counter still has to be decrease to receive another Axinium (or Phasium). The short technology description on page 12 is vague and might have lead to the confusion. Hope that helps.
This would look really good, and I would get it in a heartbeat, but the colonization just seems…. Cumbersome. The fact that ONLY your home planet gets population, and then the only way to colonize planets is to pick up population from one planet and transport it to another just seems like it makes expansion slow and boring and makes the Civilian Transports tech pretty much a necessity just to avoid a boring game. Someone feel free to prove me wrong, cuz right now that’s the only thing preventing me from nabbing this game.

The gold standard for teaching games. I remember thinking this to myself 5 years ago. Very few game tutorials in RUclips have reached this level.
This is one of the best explanation of rules for a board game I've watched. Thanks for making it clear and easy to understand!
Wow, this is the best rules explanations I've watched for any game. I can't believe you stopped making videos after 2 tutorials :[
Great video.
I wish this was a channel with a ton of how to play videos..

And now it's on Steam. I definitely recommend this video to anyone trying to learn the game from scratch. Very thorough, yet digestible.
Excellent summary - very clear and concise explanation. Great job!
+Scott Whittaker Thanks Scott! I appreciate all the encouraging comments people are leaving :)
Totally agree! Not being played the game for years, I'm now ready for a game and explain it to my players after watching this great video! Thank you for sharing!
I wasn't certain how the conquest stage worked but this cleared it, and just about everything else about the game, right up.
DurgisFlak Glad it was helpful.

Brilliant and entertaining explanation!
Thank you so much for that great job, explaining it in detail. Also very good choice of music, because it isnt distracting while watching. Looking forward playing my first session :)
Wonderful explanation!
This was really helpful. Thanks!
Excellent format, loved the presentation of the rules!
Thanks a lot for this summary, it's going to be very handy to introduce players to the game tomorrow :)
Very good video and explanation 👏
Awesome video!
Just got the game and this helped a LOT. Thanks!
Fantastic explanation, very clear and easy to understand, thanks!! ;)
Great video! Clear and concise descriptions, and your personal presentation style is great. Will we see any more from you?
Absolutely incredible tutorial. Would love to see more for other games. Cheers!
Thank you Ian! I took a break from making videos. I just played a game of Exodus with the Edge of Extinction expansion yesterday though. I came in last but it was fun and I was proud that my son beat me :)
This is great! You should make more, much more.
Superb work there

How about more tutorials..?
Great work.
Wow! Nice!

+Joe Mitchell Thanks Joe. I used Premiere. Sorry for the late reply.
great job!
Very good video with rules explanation, i am thinking about picking up this game, is it still worth it in 2024 ?
Great rules rundown!
Any chance you will be adding edge of extinction?

There is small mistake. High concil hex is worth 7 points at the end of game, not 5 points.
More videos! :)
Each planet can have only 2 rockets? It is in rules?
Great video. But man, this game seems to be overly complicated and fiddly just for the sake of it
