Hi, At 12:54 when you choose 2 cards... If you choose to draw 2 cards from the hand (not the terrain cards), do you keep them both or you choose one to keep and discard the other?
When working on it, we had to leverage some ideas from Euro games to make it work with more than 2 players. The result is sort of a weird hybrid that we hope people will really enjoy. Basically, not your typical war game we hope!
Wow, this looks like a really good game! I'm not a fan of wargames, light or heavy, but when the area control is mixed with very clean, "euro-y" mechanisms, I'm in! I already had a blast with Scythe for the same reason and I'll definitely check this one out. So thanks again, Rodney! =) I love your insanely clear explanations, they make learning games so easy. And the gameplay makes it even easier to see if the game is worth trying, which this one seems to be, tenfold.

For example, the bunker for the Machines faction. I activated it but I didn't get the chance to use it on that particular round, does the building still consider as active during the next round?
Hey there - I generally try to do my best to answer all rules related questions on my videos, but when they get into specific card or token effects, I have to direct people to the publisher or other sources, as that'a a little more than I can manage as one person :)
Thank you very much for the toturial. It is a must to learn to play. I juste want clarification for one derail tho. When your say at 21:42 that Troggs can move toregion with Trogg party token or nest token and spawn new recruits. Hi! From 2019, can you play Tactic Cards for each Battle Objective, or you can only play Tactic Cards before the start of the 1st Battle Objective then once passed, Battle Objective will resolved all the way down, and cant play any Tactic Cards in between Battle Objective?
Hey Oni. You must play and resolve all battle tactics, before you go through the objectives. You'll find that covered here: ruclips.net/video/x7KS4ijLh14/видео.html
What happens if more battles happen than the number of battle tokens that you have? Ditto for control tokens, what happens if you get more territories than the number of tokens that you have? One last question. Where does the discard of Terrain Tactics go? Is it part of your deck now or is there a discard pile for each deck which would you reshuffle when it ran out?
Hey Alfredo, for your question on Battle Tokens and Control Tokens - did this happen, or are you just wondering? If you use a Terrain card from your hand, it goes to your personal discard pile, like your other cards, and gets reshuffled back in for use later.
It hasn't happened to me, but I hadn't played the game yet when I commented this - I can see it would be difficult to run out of either of these tokens.
I believe I say that buildings "can't" be moved (unless of course, a special ability allows it to)

oh... that's the problem of non native English speakers! To us "Can" or "Can't" can pass indistictively if the context allows it to! Thanks for the fast response!
I'm very excited to play this game and I love the cover art work, but, it doesn't match any of the factions in the game. I guess it was just too good to not use. Maybe make it a future expansion faction?
Hey Rodney. Quick question regarding trog nest tokens being placed post fight? Can they be dropped into an adjacent region (if you win) where there is already a battle going on or does the restriction for adding figures apply to the nest tokens as well?
Quick question - if there is a battle with the trogs and the attacking player loses does the following happen? 1. Place the trog figures back in the zone 2. Remove the battle token 3. Add a trog nest token 4. Have the attacking player retreat their figs back to another safe zone I was a bit confused because it seemed to me in the video that the trogs are removed and a nest token is placed if they win? The rules say that in the losing section they are removed and a nest token placed, but i didn't see that if they win? Am i way off base here? Thanks, Chris
The way it's shown in the video is correct - the rule book doesn't show this (which makes your question very reasonable), but I worked with the publisher to ensure we had the rules right before the video released. They also later released an FAQ for Cry Havoc, which I think addresses this as well.
just did my first playthrough with the gf tonight and two questions arose. when you play a tactics card does it go into the same discard pile as your faction deck? this would cause it to get shuffled into that deck and delude it causing that ultra important enable scoring card to come up more rarely. second when trogs are defeated and not killed in a two and three player game and retreat to a uncontrolled region nearby do you put the nest in even if there is already a raiding party there? that would be a lot of trogs to deal with
Hello Rodney! Great tutorial as always. I cannot understand when the actual end triggers. If you can past th 49 point multiple times (since you may not actually place your scoring tjle exactly there) the game may play indefinitely. Is this correct?
You do not have to land exactly on the 49. Passing it counts. The game ends at the end of the Round in which the Enable Final Scoring event was resolved. To understand this, you need to understand how events are resolved, so re-watch this, and then hopefully it will make sense. Let me know if it doesn't help: ruclips.net/video/x7KS4ijLh14/видео.html For further help, here is some info from the rule book: If, during the game, no player’s Score token passes an unresolved Event, then the game will last 5 Rounds. However, if an unresolved Event token is passed during Scoring, the game will end sooner. Scoring is always Enabled in the final Round and cannot be Enabled by players. Mark this using the Final Scoring marker. Players will score VP for Crystals, but nobody will score VP for Region Control.
Great explanation Rodney! I have a question: if the humans are using an artillery in a non battle region, can they fire it into an already defined and marked battle region? For me this would make thematic sense...
Thank you! To answer your question, a battle region is locked. An ability would have to say that it specifically can target a battle area in order for it to happen.
On the first event phase, if the event tile is "add 1 recruit to a region that we control. Do we loose that event or do we change it to another tile thats in tge box?
When you have to retreat from a battle, or when the Trogs retreat, if they are in the corner territories that connect across the board, can they retreat across the board if those territories are unoccupied?
Rodney, I have a question. Regarding the draw phase, when you have, let's say 2 cards left in your deck and have to draw the 4, you draw 2, shuffle the discard pile, make it your new deck and draw the other 2, right? As opposed to suffling the discard pile along with the 2 remaining cards from the deck and then drawing the whole 4. Is that correct? Thanks in advance! (Anyone else who knows about this feel free to respond as well and it will be much appreciated as well)
Hey Rodney, -How would the Trog prisoners get released if they don't have any VP's (in a 2-3 player game)? -Does the HQ count as a region you can retreat to if you lose a battle? Thanks!
rodney i have a question. what do you think about balance of factions in this game? im asking because here in poland a lot of people hate this game a lot and balance is one of the reasons(other arguments are: predictible battles and too much forced specific gameplay of the factions). a lot of them are saying that humans are too strong and win almost all of the time. ive played 2 games(your videos helped me decide to buy this game so thanks a lot) and humans won both of them. however human player played them twice in a row while ive firstly played mashines and in second game switched to pilgrims. in both of them i finished up second so i believe if we will play more the balance will be shown more. what do you think? we love cry havoc but im just cureous about your opinion
Hi Jakub, thanks for the interest in my opinion, but I actually avoid opinions in my videos. I know people will have a variety of perspectives (I've heard many differing opinions), but I tend to leave mine out of them here. Sorry I couldn't be of more help!
+Watch It Played well, it is a different type of game thay feels more like an rpg. But, it's something my friends and I love playing and nt everyone knows of it so It's a small suggestion.
Oh yes - I've played the game myself. Don't have it now, but also did some videos about it on the channel. Just not full instructionals or play throughs. Glad you enjoyed the game!
This may seem like a dumb question but in a 2 or 3 player game; who controls the Trogs in a battle? Lets say that I play humans, can the other 2 players decide where to place the Trogs on the battle board?
You'll find this answer on page 10 (and I believe in this video :) ) " Note: When battling the Trogs in games with 2 or 3 players, the first player to the left of the player fighting against the Trogs controls the Trogs in the Battle. This includes placing Trog Units on Battle Objectives and playing Tactics cards from their hand. Trogs never score Victory Points and cannot win the game."
Thank you so much from the fast responce! That helps out a lot! :) Thank you so much again! Your videos are awesome! Compliments from me and my friends here in Finland! :D
If someone is playing as the trogs and through their skills ends up putting on the board all trog war party tokens that begin out of it, what happens if they would have to put more of them? you simply shuffle the tokens that have already been flipped and discarded previously?
I thought that too! But I was suprised when I first played a 4 player game by how fast they go. After you put the ones from set up on the board you notice there aren't a ton of them left outside. My play group simply assumed that we should shuffle the used tokens and make a new "pool" of them.
Almost forgot something! In the 4 player side of the board, there are 4 regions on the corners of the board, which don't tell what terrain those regions have. So can I play any terrain tactics cards or can't play them at all?
The rules I have state in the Movement section: "3. If your Units are present in a Region with no Units belonging to other players, immediately gain Control of the Region by placing one of your Control tokens in the Region." But this video states to only place a control token if there are no enemy units. Have the rules been updated in a newer printing of the game or is this a mistake in the video? This could make a difference for humans, because it could gain them an extra point when using their default skill even if they end up losing the battle.
Hey Brandon, I'm not sure I understand the difference between the rule as written and what you're saying the video says. I do know that the video was checked and approved by the designer and publisher at the time, but it's always possible changes were made later or something slipped past. Can you provide a little more detail on what you are saying you're noticing and I'll follow up.
@@WatchItPlayed Thanks for responding. The issue is that the Trog is not an "other player" in 2 or 3 player games. So according to thecrules as written, the human faction could move into a location with a Trog nest and immediately take control because there are no other players present. Then humans can use their default skill to score for controlled regions and gain an additional point even if they ended up losing the battle. Does that make sense?
@@BrandonVMoore1 It's been long enough since I shot this that I don't recall the exact conversations I had with the publisher around this rule, bit it is very common that in the process of creating the video, I find inconsistencies in the wording of the rule books and have to ask for clarifications, which lead to adjustments in how the video expresses the rule that is more accurate than how the rulebook describes it. I suspect that is what is going on here. If it helps both the publisher and designer checked over the video before it went live, so that gives me some confidence that the choices we made here were in line with the discussions we had had at the time. It's tough to say with 100% certainty, but I'm as confident as I can be.
When you removed the yellow figure from bottom of war panel as red, and YELLOW removed RED from the very top of the war panel, they now were tied at the top right? Doesn't that mean defender wins? and Yellow should of owned the space?
Hey Loom, I’d be happy to help, but I shot this video awhile ago. You’d need to provide a time stamp so I can check the part of the video you are referring to.
Hi! Love all your videos, congrats for your work! Recently I bought this game and learned to play thanks to this tutorial. I only have a doubt about playing in 2-3 players game... When trogs win the conquest they put a nest token facedown instead of a conquest token, I suposse you have to add the nest token as well as the surviving trogs. Or the nest token replace the surviving trogs? Is it correct? In the other case, when they lost the conquest objetive and they retreat you have to remove the surviving trogs and put a nest token into an unconquested adjacent zone (so, only the nest tokens..) . If there is no unconquested adjacent zones I suposse you put nothing on them, correct? Thank you so much!!
It's a little tricky to follow your question, as some of your terms are not what the rule book refers to. I think when you say Conquest token, you mean Control token? For your first question, I believe that is answered at 18:22 (you'll notice the surviving Trogs are not added back to the board). Your second question is answered at 18:51, as well, I believe. Let me know if that helps.
Hey there, while I do my best to cover all the rules of the games I feature, I can't get into individual faction effects (that would be too much for me to try to keep straight across all the games I cover). I would recommend checking the forums on BoardGameGeek.
Picked up this game today from a nearby game store, now to try to convince roommates to play it, question, if you may, do i get vp's for kills outside of combat, with let's say the orbital sniper?
Awesome video as always. I just bought the game and I've heard that the rule book is kinda convoluted, can anyone confirm this? I mean, there are a ton of rules to remember as seen in the video, maybe people just got overwhelmed by them at first? Or is it Rodney's explanation that makes it look easier than if you were to read the rules yourself?
Thanks Diego! I would like to hope that my explanations are a bit easier than reading the rule book, as I always rearrange the order of rules presented when scripting the videos. Everyone's preferred method and order of digestion are different I'm sure. But as a partial answer to your question, I do try to present the rules in the easiest to digest way, as well as clarifying anything that might be vague in the original rule book.
"They" are calling this the Kemet-killer. I don't know about that. But do you think it works better with two players? I never found Kemet particularly good with two.
Hey Jax, I avoid trying to assess the opinions others may have for a game :) I also don't review or offer opinions,. I prefer to share the game sand let viewers decide for themselves based on their own interests/biases, etc.
I avoid recommending games, as I don't know what other people are going to like or not like. That said, keep an eye on the channel, we may have some game play episodes which will help with that question.
At the end of a round, scoring is only conducted if someone played their score card during that round to put their token in the End Scoring spot of the board (unless it is the end of the game, in which case scoring also happens then).
Am I the only one who thinks of "Wild Thing" every time Rodney mentions the Trogs? ;-) heh Yeah, yeah... I know the band is really spelled with two Gs. ;-)
This game looks a lot more fiddly and confusing at first glance than I bet it really is. I just worry that about 15 minutes into explaining the rules, some players might say "forget it, this is way to complicated" and it might be hard to get them to just give it a try and realize it's not as complicated as it looks. I am curious what other people's experiences have been trying to teach this game to people. Would you say it's absolutely only for experienced gamers only?
I can't help you too much there. I think it really depends a lot on the the players. What's complicated to one person, will be easy to someone else. It's hard to assess.
Jeff Rainwater it's not the hardest game to teach (mage knight anyone?). I usually address the steps in a round which are noted on the faction boards. Then explain them one by one. It's very playable for next step gamers, very hard to master though. The basics are essentially the icons on the cards (move, recruit, build/activate). You gain VPs by controlling regions with crystals. The battle resolution is also not very hard to grasp. If you prepare yourself correctly, you should be able to lead them through the game. Don't expect to win though, I helped the new players (which I was one of myself), played with the machines (which is the hardest faction to play) and totally got annihilated. At the first play, the humans probably win since they have the most straight forward strategy. In other words, give them to the most inexperienced player. We did, and she won :P Hope that helps you out. It's an awesome game which I can't wait to play again!
Ok, so event token will trigger for that round even if no one is close to that token? So, after 5 rounds game will just end? Ok, i was playing this game wrong, hahahhaha, we played until someone passes 50 points.
It really comes down to the situation. Crystals in your personal pool fuel skill cards (and sometimes can be worth points, at a cost), but if you're confident you can hold a location, mining crystals and putting them in that region will be certain to give you points.
i'm confused by the crystals in your pool, i notice the pilgrims have a structure that allows them to take crystals off the board into their personal supply but i cant figure out the purpose of this. i couldnt find anything in the rules or the video about this or what its used for. i didnt see any skill cards that required crystals. i also didnt see any way to make these worth points

Quick question - if there is a battle with the trogs and the attacking player loses does the following happen?
1. Place the trog figures back in the zone
2. Remove the battle token
3. Add a trog nest token
4. Have the attacking player retreat their figs back to another safe zone
I was a bit confused because it seemed to me in the video that the trogs are removed and a nest token is placed if they win?
The rules say that in the losing section they are removed and a nest token placed, but i didn't see that if they win?
Am i way off base here?
Thanks,
Chris
The way it's shown in the video is correct - the rule book doesn't show this (which makes your question very reasonable), but I worked with the publisher to ensure we had the rules right before the video released. They also later released an FAQ for Cry Havoc, which I think addresses this as well.
definitely going to get this game when it comes out/ find it
Glad you enjoyed checking it out.
just did my first playthrough with the gf tonight and two questions arose. when you play a tactics card does it go into the same discard pile as your faction deck? this would cause it to get shuffled into that deck and delude it causing that ultra important enable scoring card to come up more rarely. second when trogs are defeated and not killed in a two and three player game and retreat to a uncontrolled region nearby do you put the nest in even if there is already a raiding party there? that would be a lot of trogs to deal with
1) Yes.
2) Yes.
awesome, ty for the quick response
My pleasure, Tim!
1:34 I think you meant to say bottom "Left" hand corner instead of Right, Rodney.
Gah, it's going to bug me that I missed that. Cursed upside down seating :)
Hey guys. Is in 4-player game Trogg Nest token ever can be placed on board or it used only in 2-3 player games?
Nests are just used in 2-3 player games.
Let me know if it doesn't help: ruclips.net/video/x7KS4ijLh14/видео.html
For further help, here is some info from the rule book: If, during the game, no player’s Score token passes an unresolved Event, then the game will last 5 Rounds.
Watch It Played thanks! Very much appreciated. It is such a pleasure to have you and your amazing support for the hobby !
Awesome video explanation. Thanks!
You're very welcome Kalle - glad you liked it!
Great as Always
+Marco Boschini Thanks Marco!
On the first event phase, if the event tile is "add 1 recruit to a region that we control. Do we loose that event or do we change it to another tile thats in tge box?
You just ignore it (you don't replace it).
When you have to retreat from a battle, or when the Trogs retreat, if they are in the corner territories that connect across the board, can they retreat across the board if those territories are unoccupied?
Yes, as those regions are considered adjacent.
(Anyone else who knows about this feel free to respond as well and it will be much appreciated as well)
+Diego Lima Your first description is correct. You only shuffle your discard pile at the moment you need a card and there isn’t one there.
Hey Rodney,
-How would the Trog prisoners get released if they don't have any VP's (in a 2-3 player game)?
-Does the HQ count as a region you can retreat to if you lose a battle?
Thanks!
Trog prisoners don't get released in a 2-3 player game. Yep, you can retreat to your HQ, if it is adjacent to the current battle region.
Thank you.
This was brisk, but clear. Well done! Now I just need opponents...
Always the challenge! her's hoping you find some fellow players soon :)
rodney i have a question. what do you think about balance of factions in this game? im asking because here in poland a lot of people hate this game a lot and balance is one of the reasons(other arguments are: predictible battles and too much forced specific gameplay of the factions). a lot of them are saying that humans are too strong and win almost all of the time. ive played 2 games(your videos helped me decide to buy this game so thanks a lot) and humans won both of them. however human player played them twice in a row while ive firstly played mashines and in second game switched to pilgrims. in both of them i finished up second so i believe if we will play more the balance will be shown more. what do you think? we love cry havoc but im just cureous about your opinion
Hi Jakub, thanks for the interest in my opinion, but I actually avoid opinions in my videos. I know people will have a variety of perspectives (I've heard many differing opinions), but I tend to leave mine out of them here. Sorry I couldn't be of more help!
Could you possibly play the Pathfinder adventure card game???
Thanks for the interest, no plans to currently.
You'll find this answer on page 10 (and I believe in this video :) )
" Note: When battling the Trogs in games with 2 or 3 players, the first player to the left of the player fighting against the Trogs controls the Trogs in the Battle.
My pleasure - greetings from Canada and happy gaming!
Hi! Great video! One question I have is if you play with 4 players, do you just not use the orange trog tokens?
Right!
If someone is playing as the trogs and through their skills ends up putting on the board all trog war party tokens that begin out of it, what happens if they would have to put more of them? you simply shuffle the tokens that have already been flipped and discarded previously?
I'm not sure, but I'm also guessing that would be very hard to pull off.
I thought that too! But I was suprised when I first played a 4 player game by how fast they go. After you put the ones from set up on the board you notice there aren't a ton of them left outside. My play group simply assumed that we should shuffle the used tokens and make a new "pool" of them.
how do the symbols above the terrain tactics decks work?
They give you reminders of what symbols you'll find on the cards in those decks.
I see. Thanks a lot. You guys always make me want to buy a game. I hope you do more playthroughs on other games.
Almost forgot something! In the 4 player side of the board, there are 4 regions on the corners of the board, which don't tell what terrain those regions have. So can I play any terrain tactics cards or can't play them at all?
I'm not quite sure what you mean, but if you are talking about areas that also have no name (or borders around them), then no.
You know, the region called cameron seas and the others with tunnels
@@WatchItPlayed Cool. Thanks for the feedback!
By any chance will you be doing the Ghostbusters board game in the future Rodney?
No plans to currently Christopher.
@@WatchItPlayed Yeah! Sorry, control token I meant.
Thanks for the response!
Hey Rodney, great video as usual. Am i correct to say that Trog nests are NEVER used in a four player game?
I believe you are right. In a 4 player game, there is no situation where a Trog Nest would be placed.
Thanks Rodney, i'm planning to play a 4P game soon, using your tutorial video
Am I crazy for wanting this game just for those beautiful components?
You probably won't be alone in that!
Hello, i have a question, do Pilgrims get VP from their ,,Gem Pool,,? Btw, greatings from Lithuania :)
Hey there, while I do my best to cover all the rules of the games I feature, I can't get into individual faction effects (that would be too much for me to try to keep straight across all the games I cover). I would recommend checking the forums on BoardGameGeek.
@@WatchItPlayed Ty for help any way :)
Picked up this game today from a nearby game store, now to try to convince roommates to play it, question, if you may, do i get vp's for kills outside of combat, with let's say the orbital sniper?
Hope you guys have a great time playing! Nope, no points for orbital sniper.
THANKS! Quick response too!
Oh, you sure make them a lot easier to digest! Thanks for the great work and the reply!
Look forward to getting a copy at Gencon.
Awesome. Maybe I'll see you there!
One more for the wanted list!
Thanks for checking out the video.
This looks like an awesome game! Sadly I live in Brazil and it must cost a bazilion dollars to import one here...
I've heard it can be very costly to get games to Brazil. I'm sorry to hear that :(
Can you capture NPC Trog in a 2 or 3 player games? Do you get victory points for these NPC prisoners?
Yes and yes!
+Watch It Played Thanks!
Can other players pay 2 VPs to remove Trogs from other players' prisons?
Nope.
***** Fastest response ever! Thank you! :)
This game is more complicated than android... I love it
Glad you're enjoying :)
You are the best teacher 🤘🏻 other channels, honestly, I don’t understand shit 😂😂
Well David - I'm glad ours is working for you :)
Merci ! Toujours parfaitement clair!
Thank you :)
Would you recommend the game for 2 players?
I avoid recommending games, as I don't know what other people are going to like or not like. That said, keep an eye on the channel, we may have some game play episodes which will help with that question.
Is there a solo mode for this game?
No solo mode.
What if in a foyr player game another player triggers a trog token?
Then you resolve it as normal (a battle).
How it works with two players?
The rules are the same as 3 players, you just use the other side of the board.
Wait so you can't score territory and crystals at the end of your turn unless you play a scoring card?
At the end of a round, scoring is only conducted if someone played their score card during that round to put their token in the End Scoring spot of the board (unless it is the end of the game, in which case scoring also happens then).
Hey Rodney, so how does the game hold up against our precious Kemet? ;)
Comparing games? You know I don't do that :)
Yeah, yeah, sure. Sorry.
But ahhh... Is Kemet still your favorite game? ;)
Do Quarriors next!
Thanks for the interest.
@@WatchItPlayed i subbed because you explain the games so well the other how to play for quarriors on youtube are kinda old lol
Am I the only one who thinks of "Wild Thing" every time Rodney mentions the Trogs? ;-) heh Yeah, yeah... I know the band is really spelled with two Gs. ;-)
pre-order.
Glad you enjoyed!
UR AWESUM
+Wizard Vulture :)
There's something that amuses me thinking of prisoner minis lol
Me too :)
Rodney, did you find this game hard to learn? You've done a fine job here of explaining everything, but there seem to be a LOT of rules to remember!
I didn't find this one tricky to learn, but every gamer is different, so that's just my personal experience with it.
Thanks Rodney
Just got this from an auction for $10. Going to be a long time before my kids want to play this one though sigh.
Hang in there :)
We did, and she won :P
Hope that helps you out. It's an awesome game which I can't wait to play again!
Ok, so event token will trigger for that round even if no one is close to that token? So, after 5 rounds game will just end? Ok, i was playing this game wrong, hahahhaha, we played until someone passes 50 points.
Glad the video was helpful!
super ! mon chien n'arrête pas d'aboyer depuiis

Hmmm what is the advantage of the Pilgrims Extractor vs the Harvester. Seems like the Harvesters ability is wwwwaaayyyy better!
There are skill cards that require and make use of them to gain points.
