Really looking forward to this one. Everything is right up my alley. I love the 2 player set-up as well. That midshipman is an incredible but also simple addition.
As someone with a board game hobby (what others might call obsession or addiction), I frequently want every game you do a video on. This time though, I REALLY mean it. This looks so fun!
I also have a board game hobby and I recommend adding the metal coins if you can find them. They are sold separately by Stonemaier, the publisher. They add the “chink” factor. 😂
I always enjoy your how to videos! We are huge SM fans after trying scythe a few years ago and are in a mission to buy all their games. Thanks to you we learn quickly how to play
Thanks for the video, Rodney! I’m learning this to take to our local game store on game night. There are usually 6 of us, so a higher player count will work well along with a simpler rule set. I picked up the metal doubloons offered by Stonemaier and the “chinking” adds a lot to the game. I’m a sucker for upgraded components. Stonemaier’s production was so thoughtful. It’s much appreciated! Thanks for the video, Rodney! I read the rule book and did a practice play, then watched your video to make sure I had it right. The video clarified several rules.
Just bought this game today. The first thing I did was to see if Rodney had a video for the game so I didn't have to read the rules. Thanks for all you do!
Libertalia is one of my favourite games. This looks like its adding more content without changing the feel of the game all that much at all. Thanks for the run through Rodney!

I've been watching these videos for a long long time, and I can never understand how the box flip at the beginning always ends up facing the right way.
Still one of my favorite games to "warm-up". I like the new loot tokens and the reputation track. Such a great add to that game. But the old artwork is more my kind of style. All this colorful and shiny stuff doesn't fit my imagination of pirates.
So this is basically Libertalia 2.0. Cleaner turns, easier to read effects on cards and tokens. More varied gameplay with more cards and diffrent number of rounds each turn. Also the fact that players get a more varied score at the end of each day makes a ton of diffrence. Then finally, the reputation track for tie breaker is far better than the version they had in the original game. The only thing that I miss is the scruffyness the original game had. Sky pirates are still well suppose to be pirates. I sort of wished that they went for a dirtier look, possibly a steampunk look. However, that aside. This is a great production and for those whom never did got the chance to try the original game, here comes a new version. I will certainly pick up this version too! Thanks for the video Mr Rodney!
This is cool. Tried grabbing a copy of the original Libertalia a little while back without luck so this is perfect. Shame it’s not based on the water but I’m on board for anything pirate themed. Cheers for the video!
We finally played Forgotten Waters. As we were talking, I am wearing an ankle bracelet now, so I am grounded from buying new games. As I look at this, I am not so sure I like it as much as what we have and the Kick Starter I am expecting. So I am not sure this makes the cut anyway. Of course, the video looks great! Thank you so much for all your help! I do like the mechanics of the game, and the two players rules.
@@ertai222 yep. And she is not leaving me. She enjoys the games I choose, so I have that going for me.... LOLOL. (I’m not really on an ankle bracelet, I just got in trouble for buying too many games)
Blah, blah, blah, Rodney teaches how to play games so well. Well, it's true and it bears repeating. The video is so flawless that simply watching it as a piece of art is rewarding. Thank you for the video!
So Rodney, in your example a character was removed from the island before Dusk resolved, does that mean that player doesn’t get to take a loot token during the Dusk Phase?
The art was not really what I was expecting. It’s good though, just different. The mechanics and components look great. I’m looking forward to trying it out.
You said on round 2&3 that one player draws a hand, like at the beginning, and everyone copies. What if their cards are in the graveyard, are they resurrected?
Since some loot tokens have negative effects/ consequences (for example the Relic), Can you NOT take a loot token when the dusk phase is resolving? Or does every character on the island HAVE TO take a loot token?
Everyone HAS to take a token, and that's where things get tricky, because you usually will NOT want to take a negative token, so jockeying for the order in which you get to take tokens is quite important.
Happy New Year Rodney. My family and I played Libertalia: WoG and can’t seem to find clarification on the Sabre loot. Do you leave all characters on the island until the last loot is claimed. And if someone chooses the Sabre they choose someone to dispatch with and that person discards their character and lose their loot?
If there are 2 brutes, does the first cancel the effects of the second, or the two rightmost characters will eventually be discarded? Also: Are you planning on a tutorial for Now or Never?
A Brute would only cancel a Brute is it's effects removed a Brute before that specific Brute could resolve. That's a weird sentence, hopefully you can make sense of it :) As for Now or Never, thanks for the interest! I talk a bit about that here: ruclips.net/video/EdtDuvIUa6A/видео.html&t=342
Thanks for the video! I appreciate a version of LIbertalia that has more, but I love the original and everything about it more. However, if I ever get this version, I'll make sure to watch your video many times, so I can teach it.
Cool. They worked the tiebreaker variant into game and included ways to affect it (like the Beggar also giving some Reputation). Art if fine, but the bloody dirty pirates of original felt more natural. Now it's too clean, too sanitized to... not offend?
My guess is to increase the accessibility. But also remember, what one person finds "too clean", someone else will find "just right". It's art. Opinions will vary wildly from person to person. Helps to not take your own opinions too seriously I find.
Rodney, please be honest: when you play games in real life is your table as neat as it is shown in the How To Play videos? I get depressed every time I look at my gaming table and remember your videos...
