If played today you really need the mod. But for being over 20 years old it certainly holds up remarkably well. For me easily the best Wolfenstein game. And I was 21 years old when Wolfenstein 3D hit the stores. I recently made my own RTCW t-shirt. I love it!
I disagree, game can be played normally without the mods, it's the patch that's necessary to level the performance, and to add more QOL updates. I wanna see that t-shirt though.
@@fremlo Maybe he means RealRTCW, like default RTCW even from GoG is not going to start on most modern hardware and operating systems, but RealRTCW fixed the issue.
@@D3w10n that is not true, as I stated in the video. Gog and steam version of the RtCW are both running on 1.32 version and they run fine minus the fact there is no high resolution and some fps issues here and there, but the rest is great. I said about 1.42d patch that you can download for free, you can find it everywhere on the internet and it's like 50mb at most. I prefer vanilla rtcw over realrtcw, but that's a topic for another video, eventually when I graduate i will make a video on it.
@@fremlo And I am telling you it is true, because the game is hardware sensitive in regards to new hardware. I have 3080Ti, 12700k CPU and all that running Winodws 11. Tried patch 1.42d, tried that openGL mod, tried a lot of stuff, and the only thing that made my game work was RealRTCW. I dont know why. But realRTCW can be easily configured so its 100% like original game.
Pretty good review video and honestly, it's all on point and something I can relate to especially nowadays. Out of all Wolfenstein games, RTCW is my most favorite in the series. One thing I'd like to say about the stealth part is that I never liked forced stealth sections in RTCW, not to mention Forest Compound that genuinely wasted my time when I played it as a first timer a long time ago. Sure, forced stealth sections was the style at the time but my god, it was a experience that I will never forget of how annoying it is and a waste of my time it is. At LEAST Paderborn wasn't as bad which I don't hate that level, even to this day.
Glad you liked it. I actually think core gameplay is designed to be stealth shooter even though we don't want to admit it, but with the engine and weapon selection run and gun is MUCH MORE FUN. Stay tuned, I will definitely do more rtcw content as soon as I finish the project I'm working on right now.
That's fair, it may have been designed to be a stealth shooter but frankly, it was for the better to make the gameplay fun especially the engine itself.
Nice vid bro, rtcw is interesting to discuss. This game has changed shooters and the gaming industry as a whole. Of course, the Quake engine was of great importance. Rtcw still looks mysterious, every time I discover a lot of new things. I completed the game without injury, even recorded it on the channel. Then completed Only knife. And there are still many ideas for passing because this game is multifaceted. Rtcw is awesome
Quake engine played the role of me reviewing this game. Quake 3's movement is applied here also, so bhoping (strafe jumping) is present, and speedrun of this game is really satisfying.
I share your opinion on the flamethrower being the best I've seen in games so far. I think even the visual effects still hold up. Besides this game and ME3's multiplayer, i have yet to see any other game where the flamethrower isn't either mediocre or just plain sucks. I don't understand why this game did not set the standard for how to do this weapon. Edit: After typing this comment i went and looked at a bunch of flamethrowers in video games and i had forgotten the one in Unreal 2 which looks amazing. I did play the game at release and loved it (unlike most of the world for some reason) but i don't remember how it is in terms of effectiveness.
@@fremlo While I totally see where you’re coming from, especially seeing how Doom exploded with popularity following the 2016 reboot, I still gotta say I think the series isn’t underrated. I’d call it under appreciated more than anything, especially seeing how the series has pretty much been stalling ever since Youngblood came out
you can always check civvie-11 or gman's review of this game if ur annoyed with how I talk. Not one person said they can't understand me, or they can't understand what I was trying to say. i wonder which part of me talking you found hard to comprehend.

Also MacOS version, btw
Have you tried it in vr ? It even more awesome
Return to castle wolfenstien is awesome, but it IS NOT underrated imao. I feel like people throw that term around way too much these days
I wouldn't throw it if it weren't underrated lmao. It definitely IS underrated, not just rtcw, but Wolfenstein series in general.

Yeah, that's your opinion honestly, truth is people don't talk about it that much anymore. Not just rtcw, but wolfenstein as a whole.

@@Vagen1 It is very underrated because it has never been as popular is Counter Strike, Half Life, quake, etc.
true but who cares its an amazing game!@@shayrow9480
