    DeGroot company has a guarantee. They replaced one tree that died the first year we planted it. Keep your tags and receipt and contact the company directly if they don’t survive.

    If you put something around the trunk of your leaning tree and stake it pull it up straight like a tent peg. You need an old hose or something like that

      Definitely need to straighten that one out a little

    Keep a note book of all the trees you that you plant on your property, write down all the details of your plantings, cost, names etc. which will be a great reminder if you need to look back & check the details. Thanks for sharing all you do.

      Add vegetable oil with your seasoning for the pretzels and garlic powder then throw them in a plastic bag and rotate every hour or so for 24 hours and enjoy! Oh yeah dried dill makes it super yummy

    If you want to keep the deer away, all you have to do is take eggshells crunched up and sprinkle around the area. It smells like sulfur to deer, and they dislike it immensely. It also adds calcium as a decomposes to the dirt around the fruit tree.❤

    You two are so adorable! May I suggest cattle panels around the trees. The wieght of a deer is easily over 100-150 lbs or more. They can topple the netting very easily. I even did tall chicken wire with rebar 3'ft away from my trees and my lambs squashed my chicken wire. 😢

    • @calicocowacres
      @calicocowacres  5 месяцев назад +1

      We will invest in higher quality fences for the orchard in the future when funds allow. Cattle panel costs add up fast!

    Goldenrod is not a weed, it’s a fantastic native species. Great for pollinators and birds. If you would’ve putting the trees in water for a week or so, the roots would have grown quite a bit. Good luck with them, so nice to have fresh fruits in your yard. Those birds!! 😍

    • @calicocowacres
      @calicocowacres  6 месяцев назад +2

      We have lots of goldenrod here & love it for the pollinators in the fall. I said “weed” before I realized what it actually was lol

    • @debbiewhite3601
      @debbiewhite3601 6 месяцев назад +2

      The definition of a "weed" is any plant that is growing where it's not wanted. It was growing where it wasn't want, therefore, technically, it was a "weed"...a weed with value but still a weed.

    My favorite apple is also the Honeycrisp! I find it makes excellent applesauce and my favorite cider is made with Honeycrisp apples too. On occasion I do use different varieties of apples for applesauce which is delicious as well. What a fun project to get done and I absolutely agree, the view will be beautiful and it’s refreshing to hear you recognize that it will be one day too. Day by day you’re working toward your vision for the homestead and I think you’re doing a great job! The recipe sounds awesome and I hope to try it. Congrats on getting a video into the Abundance Plus film festival!! I’ll have to check into that too.
    May the work of your hands be blessed.

    Can you go to your extension office sometimes they give you trees I live in Texas in Houston and we actually have a company called trees for Houston and they give out all kinds of trees, fruit trees, regular trees bushes. They’re having one Saturday and I don’t think I’m gonna go cause I was gifted trees from friends that went there last fall thinking and they gave me a lot of trees so I have way too many trees and plus my backyard has Wild trees already I have mulberry and I have elderberry plenty of elderberry. Plus we have banana trees and my beautiful pear tree that I love so much and you know where we don’t have that much land but believe me, I would love to just plant trees all the time.

  • @deltorres2100
    @deltorres2100 6 месяцев назад +1

    You can propagate the elderberry, take a cutting and then then put in a thing of water. It’ll get root and make another elderberry and even better put it in a small pot like a little 5 gallon pot and keep it outside bring it in for the winter and the next year, you can plant that one into the ground as well. I have tons of elderberry in my backyard. They grow wild over here.🌱🌱💚

    Do apple trees propagate from roots only or can you start one from a cutting?? I wonder if farmers of old traded tree starts. Maybe from seeds only? Good luck with the orchard. I know peaches here in E. TN almost never make it past heavy frost unless near a sheltered area or just covered completely.

    • @calicocowacres
      @calicocowacres  5 месяцев назад

      We haven't dove into the world of grafting fruit trees or starting them from seed yet, but I'm sure we'll find ourselves experimenting with that in the future haha! We are in a pretty mild climate in the thermal belt area here, and strategically put the peaches where it doesn't warm up so quickly. Hopefully they'll grow some nice fruit!
