I so appreciate the gardening and cooking content where you both are working full time. That’s the reality I live in, and most other people. Great video as usual!
Those ducks are adorable, like a bunch of kids running around playing in the mud. I have to say that even though it’s 5:00am for me right now when I’m watching this and I’m working in my home office and when you showed that massive spider I started yelling “Hell no! Oh Hell no!!!” 😱 I think I would have to move😂🕷️
I remember your homemade cider press. And it's cool seeing someone else getting Stark Brothers trees -- the only other people I've seen get them are the Hollars.
the arkansas black apple tree is a good choice I planted it just before I retired it suprized me it is picked late sept very little water in the apples which you can keep over winter in a cool place we had the apples till march this year
Totally enjoy your homestead videos. Remember to soak bareroots before planting. My previous home had sixty-two dwarf and semi-dwarf organic fruit trees. We planted all but three. Nothing like fresh produce. Happy planting.
I get trees from Starks to but I'm in zone 9 so I'm limited I have bought from other places because they had a cheaper price but Starks has a better quality 🙂🌻
A few reasons. We just really enjoy the garden & even at this scale there are things we don’t quite have room for & had to say no to this year. We are trying to grow as much as possible to preserve for the year. And because we would rather have a massive, beautiful, productive space that produces more food than we know what to do with & give it to friends/sell it at a farm stand than have a field that serves no purpose to us & we have to mow🙂
Great score on the trees! The pizza cooked on the grill is fabulous. We have never done that but I think it’s worth a try. We do not have the flat top but I like your idea of using a screen on a regular bbq. Have a great weekend.
Are those apple trees grafted? Will they be as hardy as regular rooted trees? I once tried dwarf trees. The variety I chose did not do well. In the end, by the time I sprayed for bugs, mulched them, fertilized them, the apples cost me about a dollar per apple. I did not plant any more dwarf variety anything. I am zone 6/7 here in E. TN. Enjoy your channel. Blessings to you both.
🌳 Cortland > 🍎Cortland > 🍎Cortland 🍎 Best Apple Ever .......for everything > Please baby that tree! *Don't plant too deep And do Not let this DRY out..... The First couple of years is Critical for..... a life time of Apples. Good Luck. Mulch. but keep mulch away from the Truck of the Tree. (all trees / shrubs etc)
Curious…why sheets of plastic on top of duck/chicken bedding? Why not cardboard? I’m really more aware of not using more plastic, especially recycled plastic (process uses toxic chemicals) after several expert gardeners are using more soil friendly materials. Microplastics are a real concern. Watching RUclips channel Regenerative Gardening/Blossom and Branch Farm has presented another way. Much healthier in the long run.
Ahh yes, I’ve seen her reels saying that using plastic In your garden is dangerous/etc. Here’s the thing. That advice isn’t accessible to everyone. Not everyone can invest in supplies & tools that aren’t plastic. Sure cardboard is cheap/free a lot of the time & we use it when we have it to start new beds, but for this “nursery” we’re using our silage tarps because that’s what we had. It’s a silage tarp we found in an abandoned building on property. We pulled them off our other garden beds because those are ready to plant in, & now they’ll be on this bed til next year, killing off all of the grass underneath & acting as “mulch”. I didn’t have any cardboard that day or I would’ve put it under the straw. We’re using what we have access too & what works best for us. Moreover, abandoning all of the plastic we’re using in the world for “better solutions” doesn’t make the plastic go away. It makes it break down into microplastics elsewhere. In my mind it’s so much more sustainable to actually USE the tools available to me, than toss them out to consume “more sustainable” tools. What a waste. I’m sure you meant well with this comment, but please think twice about shaming people for their ways of doing things in the future. The last thing I EVER want to do is discourage people from growing their food just because they can’t do it “perfectly”.
Curious about this latest load of wood chips. Was it Chip Drop or local arborist relationship? We are a couple counties north of you and have had no success with either. We saw your post on Marketplace. Haha. Thanks!
Marketplace! I’ve had it up for months & finally had someone ask to come drop them off. It was a hugeeee truckload. Usually we get chips from a local arborist. They go between us & the Hollars depending on who has room for more chips haha we both flagged them down around Christmas when they were across the street working & they’ve kept coming back.
If you listen to our chat in the video, we walk through the reasons. We don’t have the space cleared for these trees yet, but we will be working on it over the summer & get these in the ground come fall.
The Rain....does Not seep as Deep as you think! A gallon of water per foot of Tree....is needed.
Mmmmm those pizzas! 🍕 😊
It wonderful the life you live! Difficult at times but my gosh how amazing
Exciting to see you both grow......amazing to see couples working together to grow your dream....thank you for sharing!!!
Really enjoy seeing a young couple working together to create the kind of life they want....happy gardening, happy life
If you keep an eye out for roadside landscaping projects, sometimes they have large pots for free, they don’t want to deal with hauling them away.
Good idea!
Thanks kids! I like how you fenced off the area for the trees. I will do something similar for my garden next year! I’m expanding a little!

Thanks for sharing your wonderful homestead building! You’re doing great! Blessings to all 🤗🇨🇦
Red Haven peaches are my favorite 💥
I use those Walmart tubs for persimmon trees and dwarf cherry and mulberry trees. Ducks are a hoot
Enjoy your videos very much 😊
Ooo, we had those big crab apples when I was a kid. Makes great jelly and good pickled too

I love ALL Calico Cow Acres videos!
"look at the mud on that duck!" 😂

The pizzas looked delicious! I’m going to try them on the black stone.
I think that’s pretty smart to put the wood chips in the trees pots.
large grow bags are pretty cheap -another option

Them cute ducks. You need to give them like a name as a group like they look like the instigators….lol😅 🦆
I call them the Ducks of Hazzard😂😂😂
😂😂
I've been wanting to try pizza on the Blackstone. You've inspired me! You make it look so easy!!!
Thanks for the pizza tips!! Those looked delish!
You two are really putting alot of effort into your garden. What's the reason for the size? Are you planning to sell vegetables?

Why do you plant your trees in tubs instead of in the ground ?
