You are wonderful, it happened to my car 2012 sonata also, I am about to replace starter then worked on relay and starters after watching your video and it started, this hyundai sonatas get stuck often
Im now having this issue. The car cranks, so i know it isnt the starter. Battery is new, and its not the alternator because once it starts it stays running like there was nothing wrong with it. So this is the issue: put the key in, turn over, cranks but fails to start, yet everything is working. You can hear the motors going but it seems like their is a electrical issue. The weird thing is, after turning they over for a while, it suddenly will start and the rest is history. Turning it off, just repeats the process over. I think its the fuse
I’m having the exact same issues. I find that when I push the start button, I have to hold it for 10 seconds and then it starts. I will check the fuse to see if that works. Good luck.
My girlfriend’s 2013 Hyundai Sonata was a special case, car had a bad battery so I replaced it but for some reason would not even try to crank, checked all fuses they were good, checked relay swapped it with a good relay like the blower motor it was good, check voltage to the starter it was good
The way it started was I turned the crank shaft a couple of times and I guess that got the starter free from being stuck or something and the car started right up without hesitation
So my 2013 Hyundai Sonata broke down about two days ago. I got to about 95-100mph passing someone(dumb I know) and the dashboard lit up with all lights and then it wouldn’t accelerate. So I pulled over and turned it off. When I went to turn it back on it was dead. Haven’t been able to start it up since.
@-MasterOogway- I took mine to a local shop. Asked them to check battery, Ignition coil, grounds etc. They deemed it internal to the motor. My next step is getting it to dealership. They are currently scheduled out about two weeks. Mine is covered under the class action 2.4l theta engine recall for short block crank, rod bearing, pistons etc due to rod bearing failure. It also has a extended warranty 15yr/150,000 mile on fuel pump assembly.
have a Hyundai sonata limited 2015. Buy at 20,000 MI. Never an issue with my push button start until about 80k. Sometimes would need to hit my start button a couple times to get it to start. It always would start eventually so never made a big deal about it. Overtime it was taking two, three, four, up to 10 times of pressing the push button to get it to start. All electronics would engage and sometimes you would hear the starter whine but not engage the motor then the next press or maybe the next four presses it would start up car would run fine. Finally in October when I hit 110,000 miles in my warranty was void the car decided to not start anymore. Had starter battery and flywheel and transmission replaced. Nothing was wrong with my transmission but I was told by the mechanic that the transmission the flywheel was attached to had 50,000 miles on it and might as well put in the newer transmission as it would be just as much work as changing out just the flywheel. Left the mechanic still having the same problem. Just $1,500 lighter. Fast forward 4 months to being told that the mechanic probably didn't do the work he claimed he did. As I was still having the same issue and sometimes it would take up to 10 presses to get the car to start sometimes would start on first press. Those first press starts we're getting fewer and farther between. Finally Friday morning car wouldn't start and I had the starter replaced again. Now I press the button the starter engages I hear it whine but the Bendix I believe is not coming out because I don't hear the engine trying to turn at all. The first mechanic did say that he believed it was bendix issue also. How could three starters all have the same Bendix issue? Is there an electrical circuit that engages the Bendix as opposed to the starter? I've read about other people having this issue in cold weather I live in New England so the weather is cold here but I've had this issue in cold and warm weather at this point. Don't have more money to just have mechanics keep guessing and throwing in the car and I can't even begin to think about affording dealer rates unfortunately. I'm a single mom with three kids who can barely make my car payment never mind huge mechanic bills. I know I'll have to fix whatever is wrong I just am hoping that someone will be able to figure out what's wrong instead of everyone keep guessing in the dark or replacing same parts. I want to thank everybody in advance for reading this and taking their time to respond.
Have you figured anything out? I have a 2011 Sonata Limited that started having this issue about a month ago, sometimes would start first try and other times after 30 tries. Replaced starter, battery and no solution. It won’t start at all anymore and I desperately need to get it running so I can get back to work…I’m running out of options. I had read forums about people having issues with the Neutral Safety Switch/Inhibitor Switch and also my gear indicator light on the dash as well as shifter cluster would go blank from time to time and not show what gear I was in, so I replaced the Switch I mentioned but now it doesn’t show any gear…still no start. Not sure if I installed the incorrect part or blew a fuse somehow? This is all very time consuming and wasting money..
Mine locked up and Hyundai replace it last year do you know if the replacement engines have problems locking up as well or did Hyundai fixed the issue with the replacement motor from locking up? Now it sounds like the motor wants to start and the starter releases it and you can hear the starter spinning but won’t crank the engine sounds like if it’s a bad starter but then sometimes it would start.
Ajmobilemastertechnician Nunez for your starter, what may have happened is that the plastic shift lever in the starter assembly might have broken. If it sounds like a “whirring” spinning sounds but no cranking, that might be it. All you need to do is buy that plastic arm for the starter which is like $15 bucks and then take the starter out and replace part. There are videos here on YT on how. It’s not easy if you’re not used to working on cars like me but very manageable. Access to starter is just a pain.
I jumpstart my second car and now it take me 3 times to start my car. I replaced to a new battery but it didn’t solve the problem. What do you think it might be. Thank you so much for a great video. Sonata 2013 with 106,000 miles.
Sometimes the car won’t start if the shifter isn’t in park all the way. Sometimes wiggling the shifter will get it to start. I had an issue with it and it fixed itself after awhile. It would randomly refuse to crank.
Hi good morning. Hopefully you can give me an advice what to here. I checked all the fuses, all are fine, I bypassed the relay and the starter works, but it doesn’t crank. You mentioned about that the engine gets locked. Can you explain to me a little more on how to crank it manually? Thank you.
I pulled the coil packs out and took out the spark plugs and tried to turn over the motor manually and I get it to turn but it is kind of difficult and it makes kind of a clicking sound when I’m turning it. Is this an indication of my engine being seized up?
funny thing is that my 2014 seized and Hyundai replaced motor for free but in this case it was the starter relay switch was bad....THANK YOU for this video!!
I have one question. I can't find the starter relay anywhere in AutoZone just the multipurpose relay . Is the starter relay a part I can only get at the Hyundai dealership or will I be able to order it online. I thought the multipurpose relays could act as a starter relay but they are two different things
Just managed to get Hyundai to cover catastrophic engine failure at 157,000 miles! Free new engine! I think the class action covers up to 130k?? Mechanic said the highest hes ever seen approved was 153k. But they took a look, and it was spotless inside. CHANGE YOUR OIL often ppl! That's what saved me from losing a decent car, or thousands fixing it But yeah. Now I've been having electrical issues. Car clicking all by itself, non stop. And wont start. Hopefully this works
I hope someone reads this with an answer! I have a Hyundai Sonata owners. I bought a 2011 LE, 4 cylinder, automatic, push button ignition. It only has 37,000 miles on it and the previous owner bought it new. She sold it to me because her two mechanics could not get it to function for her. It would sit for a few days and would not start. They replaced the battery and alternator. That didn't fix it. Right now it will not start or do anything at all, so it actually got worse. The battery is new and checked good (confirmed with part store check and deep charge). The main fuses I can see all look good. Nothing comes on. No exterior or indoor lights. No dash lights or gauges...nothing. Except, the push ignition button will lightly illuminate when I push it. Both key fobs will show a small red light when anything is pushed on them, but nothing happens. The trunk won't open, the alarm won't turn on, no door locks, nothing at all works. It does the same thing when attempting to jump start with 3 different vehicles. It did start occasionally for her with jumper cables and battery charge, but now it is entirely dead and nothing gives it power to crank or start, or any accessories or gauges. It's behaving like it has NO battery at all. I have not connected a code reader to it, yet. Questions: 1. Anyone have this occur? What fixed it? 2. Is there a way to test the key fobs to be sure at least one is working? 3. I know how to get the car in Neutral to push it around, but is there a way to get the steering wheel to turn? I hate push button crank cars! Thank you!
Ist, charge your battery then go to starting relay in the fuse box, replace it with a relay which you know is working like blower motor relay, if it cranks now, try starting it with push button, if it starts then go to a good service place to get it scanned like firestone or best one or whatever suits you, they will diagnose everything and then you know, thats what I did and it worked for me My best wishes
Turned key, nothing happens. Been an ongoing issue. Let the car sit for awhile and it will start. Replaced ignition switch, battery and neutral safety switch. Problem still occurring

@@bryanmccullar4556 yes, actually the issue was the starter. We changed it and the car ran like it was brand new

Any updates to your problem? Similar situation went to pass not that high of speed loss power. No start.

Same let me know, trying to figure out which way to pursue this issue to fix it
