I've made this large cupcake many times. Often I make the "liner" portion out of chocolate (or Wilton Candy Melts) first, so that you get a clean cupcake liner and the cake stays moist inside. I also prefer to torte (or cut layers) into each half, so that I can get more buttercream to cake ratio. This is always a nice topper cake for a cupcake stand, especially for weddings and showers, even birthday parties. I've used them as smash cakes, chocolate pinatas (all chocolate outside, candy and toys inside), used the top swirl for the dress of a shorter doll cake...really, the uses are endless and it's a great multi-use pan. I do prefer to bake the tops and bottoms separately, so that I can control how "done" they are, but it's never been a problem to make the batter sit while the other half bakes. Good luck, bakers!
So helpful ! My son is tuning one tomorrow and I am making him a monster cake out of my giant cupcake pan I bought but my fiancé thru the box out with the instructions !!! So glad I found this video !
I am making a monster smash cake for my nephew who is turning one but I have not decided the best monster look for this pan, can you show your finished cake?
Hi. I'm using cake mixes on my giant cup cake what size vanilla pudding are you using small one about 3.1. i have one 5.25 is that enough when doubling?
Wilton I made it for my daughter's birthday with some cotton candy cupcakes and it turned out BEAUTIFUL!!!!..I had so many compliments..I wish I could only attach a photo to show you..thanks again!!!!!☺
I tried this on m daughters cake using your swirl flower technique on top and it came out awesome - used gold powder over white for base and did a ganache drip - but if it weren’t for your video I’d have a boring top thanks!
Please explain! If your using cake mix, do you use the ingredients on the box or just the ones listed? Also, what happens if you don't use instant pudding mix? Thanks!
Just like Chantal said, if you follow the recipe in this video just use what I listed, not the other ingredients on the box. The instant pudding is what adds structure so if you can't add it, use another pound cake recipe :-) -Stephanie
Buttercream would be more stable, but as long as you store it in a refrigerator and only bring out when you're ready to serve, whipped icing should stay put!
Thank you for this video, Stephanie! I just put mine in the oven and I sure do hope it turns out like yours. I did everything you did :) I'm going to decorate mine with rosettes as well. It will be the smash cake for my daughter's first birthday photo shoot in the morning!
That's great to hear, Tanya! If you're on Instagram, don't forget to tag us @wiltoncakes when you post a photo of the giant cupcake. We'd love to see your work. Thanks for watching!
WOW WILTON LOVE IT! FOR MY 13TH BIRTHDAY I WANTED A GIANT CUPCAKE SO I ASKED MY AUNT TO BUY THE PAN FROM THE CRAFT STORE BUT SHE KEPT TELLING ME WHEN I ASKED HER IF SHE GOT IT THAT SHE DIDN'T BUY IT AND I DIDN'T SEE ANYMORE PANS AT THE CRAFT STORE SO I WAS SO WORRIED AND UPSET THAT I WOULDN'T GET A GIANT CUPCAKE FOR MY B-DAY BUT APARENTLY SHE GOT IT THE NEXT DAY AND SURPRIZED ME WITH IT ON MY BIRTHDAY! AND I STARTED CRYING WHEN I SAW IT! HOPE YOU ENJOYED MY FIRST GIANT CUPCAKE STORY!🎂🍰
My pan just arrived in the mail today! Can't wait to try. I was going to frost the bottom half but I think I'll just leave it bare like you did because that's how regular sized cupcakes are.
I only have the stiff decorator icing and I would like to use it up. Can you tell me the ratio of water to stiff decorator icing to use to get it back to the right thinness for piping?
Hi Sheryl, You can add 2 tablespoons of water to make it thinner. Thanks for watching the video and don't forget to subscribe to our channel: s.wilton.com/10vmhuv
I believe they used their Wilton buttercream icing which you can buy in tubs but you can make it yourself, mother have a video recipe! You can use any icing as long as it's not too thin, if it's too thin, you won't be able to have nice rosettes
We have two different giant cupcake pans, does yours look rectangular on the outside, or rounded like the one in the video? If you have the rectangular one, it's the smaller of the two, and you would only need one box mix.
I used the pan during Christmas time. I sprayed the bottom with the silver metallic spray and frosted the top white with an offset spatula. I got the Wilton Christmas light candy mold and black licorice to look like lights were strung on it.
Hi Mandy! If you are using a pound cake mix from a box, follow the instructions for that mix. Since this pan calls for 6 cups of batter, I would double it :-) Happy baking! -Stephanie
I use candy melts and line the bottom of the cupcake pan (make it not too thick, but not too thin) and cool for a hard cupcake liner. Works beautifully and looks impressive as it legit looks like a liner. Wish they sold large cupcake liners that fit in these pans- that would be amazing...but for now, do it this way and it will work out nicely!
No, the additional ingredients (the eggs, oil etc.) are for doctoring up boxed cake mix to make it more sturdy as a pound cake. She said so before listing the additional ingredients. If you have your own pound cake recipe, I figure you can just go ahead and use it.
I am from Australia and looking for a giant cup cake pan now for this. The reason/s I will be making mine is for fun and love of baking but also for photography. thanks for the video. Hope I can find one down under
Hi Peyton! You can cut both the top and bottom together for larger pieces, or remove the top and cut them separately to serve more people :-) Thanks for watching! -Stephanie
Hello, we haven't tested out using almond flour, so would recommend you find a cake recipe with almond flour you like and then adjust the volume for this recipe.
i am planning on making this cake for a baby shower ! if i make the cake the night before what is the best way to store it to insure it stays good overnight?? and what is the amount of time it took you to cook and decorar your cake??
Hi! We recommend storing the cake covered in the refrigerator overnight. It’s hard to give a time frame because the cake has to bake and cool, but decorating in this video would take about an hour. Hope that helps!
I would probably cut a whole in the center of the bottom and pour a little pudding OR some chocolate ganache' in the center for a little more exciting flavor and moisture too.
I've made quite a few of these for cake smash sessions and just regular birthdays. I love to make a shell out of candy melts for the bottom layer. This makes it so easy to decorate and it looks great! Love this pan!
Stephanie, one more question before I make this giant cupcake. Did you use the instant pudding 4 serving or the instant pudding/pie pudding which is a 6 serving box? Thanks again!
Yes you can use Italian meringue buttercream to ice it. If you are talking about how to make it, I would recommend the recipe from Yolanda Gampp (How To Cake It)
I have this mold, but I want to make a keto version. Keto baked goods don't tend to rise, so I'm wondering what would happen if I filled them all the way...
I've made this cake many times, but it definitely depends on the cake batter and how big you cut it, obviously. The denser the cake, the smaller the pieces. Like she said in the video, it's better to do a denser cake. Probably around 15-20 larger pieces, 20-30 smaller ones. Hope that's helpful. :)
BTW, this Wilton pan is like 30-40$. I bought a silicone two piece set for 15$ at Hobby Lobby. The top bakes faster than the base, its best to have them separate. And also easier to take out of the pan with silicone.
Sorry for so many comments.... with the silicone one, you are able to make a chocolate mold out of the bottom to get crisp edges instead of leaving the cake open to dry out.
So if you use a pound cake box mix - and don't add the ingredients she said rather just follow the box directions - how do you get it a chocolate look? Aren't the pound cake mixes vanilla??
okay so it's obvious no one is reading this!! But I see if you use the cake mix it is chocolate, but if you use a pound cake, it is vanilla. Glad I figured that out - and why isn't Stephanie answering???
Thanks for the recipe. I tried it and it turned out ok except you do not need to double the recipe if you’re using cake batter. I did 2 boxes of cake mix, 2 boxes of instant pudding, 8 eggs, 2C water and 2/3c oil as you instructed and I had enough for the cupcake pan plus an additional cake and a few normal sized cupcakes. WAY too much batter. Did I do something incorrectly here? I measured carefully.
Hi there! We've had two different giant cupcake pans, one is larger than the other. The larger one is shown in this video, and the smaller one has a rectangular base and only needs one cake mix. It's possible you just have our smaller version!
1:38 2½ cups for the top of the cup cake and 3½ for the bottom ♡
I made this and used a carrot cake recipe. Turned out BEAUTIFUL 😍 I love Wilton always have always will. Thanks for the tutorial.
I've made this large cupcake many times. Often I make the "liner" portion out of chocolate (or Wilton Candy Melts) first, so that you get a clean cupcake liner and the cake stays moist inside. you should make a video :0)
So helpful ! My son is tuning one tomorrow and I am making him a monster cake out of my giant cupcake pan I bought but my fiancé thru the box out with the instructions !!! So glad I found this video !

Hi. I'm using cake mixes on my giant cup cake what size vanilla pudding are you using small one about 3.1. i have one 5.25 is that enough when doubling?
What do you use to transport it? I have a cake smash session coming up soon.
We'd recommend a tall bakery/cake box.
I am a photographer & you just helped me save money on birthday cakes & smash cakes
I'm getting ready to try my very first Wilton giant cupcake..I love the way you explain everything..I learn so much from you..thanks!!!☺
So glad you enjoyed the video! Happy baking! -Stephanie
Wilton I made it for my daughter's birthday with some cotton candy cupcakes and it turned out BEAUTIFUL!!!!..I had so many compliments..I wish I could only attach a photo to show you..thanks again!!!!!☺
This giant cupcake looks so awesome!
Thank you so much! -Stephanie
Omg I'm going to make one for my baby's first birthday photoshoot and another one for the party !! :)
Yay! Happy Baking! -Stephanie
I tried this on m daughters cake using your swirl flower technique on top and it came out awesome - used gold powder over white for base and did a ganache drip - but if it weren’t for your video I’d have a boring top thanks!
How about a recipe from scratch, without chocolate and cake mixes??? Thanks Stephanie!!!
Po,mipuunhgtb
Any suggestions on how to transport it once its decorated?
I love this as a nice bday surprise or any celebration
Please explain! If your using cake mix, do you use the ingredients on the box or just the ones listed? Also, what happens if you don't use instant pudding mix? Thanks!
Just like Chantal said, if you follow the recipe in this video just use what I listed, not the other ingredients on the box. The instant pudding is what adds structure so if you can't add it, use another pound cake recipe :-) -Stephanie
@@wilton How much instant pudding please :)
Hi, can I use whipped icing on this cake design? Will it fall off? Or should I use buttercream?
Buttercream would be more stable, but as long as you store it in a refrigerator and only bring out when you're ready to serve, whipped icing should stay put!
Would it bake well if I did cake mix from scratch and add pudding mix?
Hi Jeanne, you can absolutely bake from scratch. We recommend a pound cake recipe for this one to help hold its shape.
Thank you for this video, Stephanie! I just put mine in the oven and I sure do hope it turns out like yours. I did everything you did :) I'm going to decorate mine with rosettes as well. It will be the smash cake for my daughter's first birthday photo shoot in the morning!
So cute! Love the idea of using this pan for a smash cake! Happy 1st Birthday to your daughter! -Stephanie
How do I make it with betty Crocker rainbow bit cake mix
I just got into giant cupcake making and you have inspired me to continue!! You make it look so easy!
That's great to hear, Tanya! If you're on Instagram, don't forget to tag us @wiltoncakes when you post a photo of the giant cupcake. We'd love to see your work. Thanks for watching!
My sister wants one of these for her birthday but she would like to use it for a velvet cake recipe can we do that?
Qué puedo hacer para que el frosting no se me derrita cuando salgo a llevarlo a venderlo. gracias
hi!so glad I found this video. if my cake mix calls for milk & butter do I substitute the water & oil and the taste will not change? thank you!
Aw, that is so sweet! Love it! What a great aunt! Hope you had a happy birthday! -Stephanie
I sure did
My pan just arrived in the mail today! Can't wait to try. I was going to frost the bottom half but I think I'll just leave it bare like you did because that's how regular sized cupcakes are.
Awesome! Happy baking! -Stephanie
Hi! how many servings does this giant cupcake yiel? is it a 6" or 8" size? thank you so much
Hello! This serves about 12-15 people :-) Happy baking! -Stephanie
Nice cake 🎂
I am trying this tonight 😮
Wow this nice big cupcake
In the video are you using a cake mix from a box or a pound cake?
Hello! I am using a box mixed that I doctored up to be pound cake. You can do that or use a pound cake recipe :-) -Stephanie
Can we use a regular cake mix?
This is amazing helpful!!
I have made a couple of them. I do make the wrapper as a candy shell, fill it with cake and the decorate the top.
What size cake box did you use 6 or 8 inch
Hi Jessica! You would likely want a 10 inch box for this cake. If you can find one that is at least 8 inches tall, that should fit the finished cake.
Your one of the best bakers and cooks cydney... 10+
Made this last night and it turned out beautifully 😀 Thanks so much Stephanie!!
Yay! I'm so glad! Thanks for watching and Happy Baking! -Stephanie
For the pound cake recepie do i have to have two boxes of the mix?
You can find our Pound Cake From Box Mix recipe here: www.wilton.com/pound-cake-from-cake-mix/WLRECIP-377.html
Nice and beautiful 😍
what is the recipe of the icing? :)
it looks great :)
I believe they used their Wilton buttercream icing which you can buy in tubs but you can make it yourself, mother have a video recipe! You can use any icing as long as it's not too thin, if it's too thin, you won't be able to have nice rosettes
+Melissa Lanning thanks i will look on the internet for this icing :)
Making this for my grandson 1st birthday. Smash cake!
What size of instant pudding mix do you use
Hello! We used the 4 serving size instant pudding mix. -Stephanie
Great Video! Do you have a recipe for the icing you used? Thank you!
Hi Rima! We used our White Decorator Icing available here: www.wilton.com/white-decorator-icing/704-680.html
Hi! Where to buy that cupcake pan?
Hi! You can get our Giant Cupcake Pan here: www.wilton.com/dimensions-giant-cupcake-pan/2105-5038.html
Hello, what brand of cake mix did you use? And what size pudding package did you use?
Thank you!
Hello! For this cake I used Pillsbury chocolate cake mix and the pudding package is 3.4 ounces :-) -Stephanie
Does it have to be dense? Can I make an angel food cake with this type of pan?
Hi Angie! A denser batter does work better in this pan. -Stephanie
Hi! Can i use chiffon recipe for this cake?
Hi Cheyenne! I think a chiffon recipe is too light for this pan. The pan works best with a pound cake recipe. Happy baking! -Stephanie
I measured the cups you said to, and my pan 1:56 - doesn’t look like that, it looks much fuller .. I hope it’s not overfilled.
We have two different giant cupcake pans, does yours look rectangular on the outside, or rounded like the one in the video? If you have the rectangular one, it's the smaller of the two, and you would only need one box mix.
love the colours
Thank you! Teal is my favorite color :-) -Stephanie
Mints mine :-)
I used the pan during Christmas time. I sprayed the bottom with the silver metallic spray and frosted the top white with an offset spatula. I got the Wilton Christmas light candy mold and black licorice to look like lights were strung on it.
Great idea! I would to see that! Thanks for watching! -Stephanie
Making one for all three my girls birthdays. They are turning 8, 2, and 1. I hope I do well with it.
How fun! Good luck! If you're on Instagram, don't forget to tag #wiltoncakes so we can see a photo! :)
Wilton can I use cake batter instead pound cake cause I'm sort of allergic to pound cake
easy and fast ...very,very nice cake love it
Thank you! -Stephanie
Way to go Stephanie.......love your video's Donna Wagner
Hey! Love the video! If I use pound cake from a box mix, do I still need to add the pudding or just follow the box recipe and double it?
Hi Mandy! If you are using a pound cake mix from a box, follow the instructions for that mix. Since this pan calls for 6 cups of batter, I would double it :-) Happy baking! -Stephanie
Ohh noo.. i put pudding mix min my box cake, it’s literally in the oven now 🥺😣
What size instant pudding mix?
Hi Lori! A 4-serving size pudding mix :-) -Stephanie
Great tip to use Candy Melts! 💛 We'll let the team know you're interested in a giant cupcake liner too 🥰
I made Shopkins Cupcakie with this pan! It came out so cute!
Hello I love all of your vids. it teaches me alot of baking tips
Thank you so much!! Glad you enjoy the videos! -Stephanie
Do you have recipe for Angel Food cake with giant cupcake
Confused. Do you use a pound cake recipe and in addition add all ingredients mentioned ? Eggs , oil etc ?
No, the additional ingredients (the eggs, oil etc.) are for doctoring up boxed cake mix to make it more sturdy as a pound cake. She said so before listing the additional ingredients. If you have your own pound cake recipe, I figure you can just go ahead and use it.
+cutiebee2 thanks a bunch
I am from Australia and looking for a giant cup cake pan now for this. The reason/s I will be making mine is for fun and love of baking but also for photography. thanks for the video. Hope I can find one down under

How do you cut the cupcake?
Hi Peyton! You can cut both the top and bottom together for larger pieces, or remove the top and cut them separately to serve more people :-) Thanks for watching! -Stephanie
For how many servings
This cake will yield about 10-12 servings
Can I use pound cake out of the box
good decoration
Thank you so much! -Stephanie
How much does it cost
Can you use almond flour ???
Hello, we haven't tested out using almond flour, so would recommend you find a cake recipe with almond flour you like and then adjust the volume for this recipe.
Good information, thank you
You are very welcome! Thanks for watching! -Stephanie
Here goes, my grandson’s 1st birthday... crossing my fingers. Thanks for the tips

i am planning on making this cake for a baby shower ! if i make the cake the night before what is the best way to store it to insure it stays good overnight?? and what is the amount of time it took you to cook and decorar your cake??
Hi! We recommend storing the cake covered in the refrigerator overnight. It’s hard to give a time frame because the cake has to bake and cool, but decorating in this video would take about an hour. Hope that helps!
Why do you have to put pudding mix in the cake batter
Hello! This pan works best with a pound cake so we add pudding mix to the cake mix to make it sturdier :-) Thanks for watching! -Stephanie
You can get them on amazon for not alot of money
We're making a smash cake for my sons 1st bday!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Yay! So cute! Happy Birthday to your son! -Stephanie
Making one today for my granddaughter and her squad... enjoy guys.. hope Abuela does buenass
I would probably cut a whole in the center of the bottom and pour a little pudding OR some chocolate ganache' in the center for a little more exciting flavor and moisture too.
could you do a video showing us how to cut it
made one a long time ago and failed, it is time for redemption this weekend, gonna try lemon pound cake with coconut cream frosting.
Excuse me but I'm in Europe - what exactly us a pudding mix?
Cupcake Jemma does the best tutorial, sorry but this one - she just couldn't be bothered!
I've made quite a few of these for cake smash sessions and just regular birthdays. I love to make a shell out of candy melts for the bottom layer. This makes it so easy to decorate and it looks great! Love this pan!
Great idea with the candy shell! Thanks for watching! :-) -Stephanie
Thanks so much!!
Thanks for watching! -Stephanie
Stephanie, one more question before I make this giant cupcake. Did you use the instant pudding 4 serving or the instant pudding/pie pudding which is a 6 serving box? Thanks again!
Hi Rima! I used the 4-serving size box :-) -Stephanie
Made this tonight for a birthday tomorrow. Then realized my cake carriers are not tall enough 😂
Oh no! Time to go to the store and get another one 🙂
so cute
Thank you! -Stephanie
can you do Italian meringue
Yes you can use Italian meringue buttercream to ice it. If you are talking about how to make it, I would recommend the recipe from Yolanda Gampp (How To Cake It)
Qué hermoso
I have this mold, but I want to make a keto version. Keto baked goods don't tend to rise, so I'm wondering what would happen if I filled them all the way...
How many portions will come out of this giant cupcake?
Depends how big the slices are!😂
I've made this cake many times, but it definitely depends on the cake batter and how big you cut it, obviously.
I saw the silicone version at HL and am torn between the 2. What type of cake did you use in yours?
How many people can this cake serve
Did you notice that they changed the bottom part? The final result wasn’t the original cake. They changed it 😱
So if you use a pound cake box mix - and don't add the ingredients she said rather just follow the box directions - how do you get it a chocolate look? Aren't the pound cake mixes vanilla??
oh! The pudding should be chocolate -- got it!!!
okay so it's obvious no one is reading this!!
I just got this pan like a month ago and love it
Awesome! Glad you are enjoying it! -Stephanie
