In Water 7, you learn that Robin would be ready to sell the whole world if it meant saving the SH, and here Luffy shows her in return that he is willing to go to war with the whole world to defend her. To add to your guys Void Century talk. It was mentioned by Robin in Skypiea while she was investing the ruins of Shandora that the country had fell 800 years ago. Which also lined up with the end of the void century. Shandora also famously having a Poneglyph that the Shandian's ancestors died protecting those 800 years ago according to Calgara in the flashback.
Robin felt that she was a curse and the SH were going to eventually leave her, so Luffy decided to become the curse himself by declaring war on WG so Robin had nothing to fear. Genius
Walk to arlong park is what got me to like One Piece. Vivi saying goodbye to the straw hats is what got me to love One Piece And this episode right here is what made One Piece my favorite series of all time ❤
This was the episode many of us have been waiting for you guys to react to, and it did not disappoint. One of the Top 5 emotional moments in One Piece.
the difference between a pirate who doesnt declared a war to the government vs those who does.. pirates are already considered criminals in this world, it'll be like a robber or a murderer in our world, but those who challenge the WG are people who actually has some beef towards the government, the officials, those in the higher ups, in short you'll be considered a terrorist and will actually put you high to their priority
Professor Clover: It's true that the ancient weapon would threaten the world. However, isn't it actually that the World Government is more threatened by people becoming aware of that kingdom's existence and ideology? This arc is the peak of One Piece. Robin felt she'd be a burden to everybody because she's an enemy of the World Government they'll never stop going after so she ran. Luffy did the one thing he could do which was shoot the flag which declares war on the World Government and makes all of the crew equal to Robin, this means she no longer has a reason to try to protect them by turning herself in and dying. This was Luffy's way of showing how valuable his crew is to him that he'll declare war on the entire world to protect them. Robin really came into her own as a character in this arc.
42:45 Honestly, most people who recommend one piece just want you to get to this scene because they love watching people cry. I have recommended one piece to 1000 people
Franky crying at the end always gets me. Love how oda makes you cry then laugh immediately after. Also, I'll say it again, the score is just so magical
There is a small moment in the anime (not in the original manga) where after Robin shouts that she wants to live, Zoro briefly unsheathes and then re-sheathes his sword. It could simply be him checking over his equipment, but a theory that I came across before and have since subscribed to is that he is performing 金打 (Kinchou), an olden samurai practice in which two swordsmen would clink together the hilts of their katana, making a sharp metallic sound that signified a vow of honor or promise to be upheld (women would do this by hitting their hand mirrors together). There is no other swordsmen around, so Zoro produces the sound by simply hitting his hilt against the scabbard, meaning he will uphold the promise of bringing Robin back out to sea.
I remember watching episode 278 and thinking how One Piece couldn't possibly get any more of an emotional rollercoaster ride. Can't wait for you to make it to the Wano arc.
i'm glad i'm watching these reactions because i did not remember at all that sakazuki killed the innocents. Also that kuzan and sakazuki were on the same post on the same mission. Glad that we got to see how far sakazuki will go for "justice" this early on.
Luffy declaring war against the world government was to make Robin's enemy his enemy, thus showing her she's really part of the crew. Robin understood that and finally uttered her wish.
I guess this is how she was able to read the Straw Hats so well that she could figure out every trick to get them to let her join them - she's been betrayed so often she had to learn at a young age to read people
Robin forcing herself to laugh like saul in the boat is the first time watching one piece where i involuntarily and without warning started feeling a legit stream of tears run down my face.
It's not impossible to imagine that every once in a while some group would rise to challenge the world government only to be quashed, leading to everyone just giving up. Kokoro DEFINITELY didn't know about what the scholars of ohara discovered (after all, that was like the whole reason ohara got blowed up) and I doubt tom did either he ONLY had the blueprints for Pluton (he also believed the talk about the scholars of Ohara being devils, as he warned Franky and Iceburg about robin, which suggests he didn't know anything about the truth there)
FYI remember the name of the person who ordered the refugee ship to be destroyed. He’s subtly mentioned here but comes up later and it’s a connection that can easily be missed.
Great scene and great reaction! A few people downplay the straw hats shooting the flag moment saying that they were already criminals so nothing changes for them, but in my view it's like the difference between being chased as regular criminal who killed a random person or commited robbery versus for being a full on terrorist who attacked one of the most important government institutions to save someone with potential to destroy the whole world. After this, their name will most likely become a priority on the government's blacklist. Definetly a true display of loyalty and friendship. That's truly a powerful and literal moment of "we will take on the whole world for you, so please just ask us for help and we'll have your back". Also, I love that even the "cowards" of the crew Usopp, Nami and Chopper are so ready to risk their lives for Robin. Truly beautiful moment for all the strawhats.
The archeologists were not just scrambling futilely for something to do. They were sacrificing their lives trying to preserve knowledge by getting as many books into the lake as they could so that the books would not burn.
Well it is not instantly possible for everyone to figure that out. Most people think after seeing this episode that despite scholars efforts, everything gets burned. Their effort was futile. Its after so many arcs we learned the effort was significant.
@@kunalsinghal1247 I mean I wasn't trying to be mean about it, just pointing out something I considered important about their dedication. In these chapters, Oda has perfected the heart-wrenching backstory leading up to one of the greatest lines in literature. You'd have to be heartless to not cry.
About the discussion on WG being good or evil, there is a very famous dialogue from one of the most liked character in future which is, "Winners decide who is evil and who is good since they write the history" 😎. This explains basically everything about WG and their pious attitude even after so many atrocities
The world government will protect you, the world government will love you, just so long as you just sit back and don't stick out from the crowd. Just let the world government keeps its boot pinned to your neck, if you don't wanna be like Ohara.
tbh i kinda agree with the survivor ship being blown up. Like its really hard to tell who are archiologists, if you are going to destroy a precious island. might as well kill everyone. Also not sure if anyone on first watch through remembers this guy as akainu later on.
@lightbaker im yeah they are those things, but they would still be those things without even killing everyone on the island. if this was as big of a deal as they make it out to be, you better make sure what u did wasnt in vain.
33:34 Gotta appreciate the man that did this act in the hood appreciate his twisted view of Absolute Justice…literally committed a war crime, that is dedication to your job 😳
My God it's so good. Robin has spent her life learning to betray her "friends" before they betray her, because they always do. She finally found a crew that she can't bring herself to betray so she wants to sacrifice herself and die before they betray her. But Luffy finally convinces her that it really is Ride or Die this time, and Robin finally allows herself to utter her wish. You can see that moment visually as the darkness around her is swept away. Peak. One Piece.
In Ohara there is a great look at the "Justice" of the One Piece world, Aokiji follows what he is told, and both Saúl and Sakazuki go against orders but as Sakazuki's extreme methods fit with the goverment's wishes he is allowed to be, while Saúl is seen as a deserter but he is just following his sense of Justice as well. The goverment doesn't want people that just follow orders, they want people that will follow their "Absolute Justice". Now for One Piece at a time: Sakazuki in the present is Admiral Akainu, who acording to the G8, is Jonathan's mentor, somehow.
some of the in depth convos yall have i can't even say shit without spoiling anything............but it is good that you have such talks after a episode, i understand how hard it is not to just binge a handful of episodes then talk about it........
To be honest both VAs did such an amazing job here. I'd probably say I prefer the dub as well just because I, as an English speaker, i relate to it more, obviously. But they're both so good.
the detail in how Robin character is built upon by looking at her interaction before and after this arc, you'll notice how oda really put into account her psychological issue towards people, like she only open up a little bit to luffy while not really to other strawhat, like only calling him name whilst nickname for other SH, it's subtle but it's there, see the change, the peak is here
How is it that Robin sees Chopper do you think? That's she sees him as a child like she once was (some argue specifically that he's as good as HER child), or that he's as good as the stuffed animal she probably wanted as a child
Tribute song to Robin and to the scholars of Ohara - Die Gedanken Sind Frei (Thoughts Are Free), a German song written (I think) around the time of Germany becoming one country, I first heard of it when I heard of anti-Nazi non-violent activist Sophie Scholl playing it on her flute outside the prison her father was sent to for calling Hitler a 'scourge against god', these are the lyrics for the version recorded in the 1960s by Pete Seeger: 'Die gedanken sind frei My thoughts freely flower Die gedanken sind frei My thoughts give me power No scholar can map them No hunter can trap them No man can deny Die gedanken sind frei I think as I please And this gives me pleasure My conscience decrees This right I must treasure My thoughts will not cater To duke or dictator No man can deny Die gedanken sind frei And should tyrants can take me And throw me in prison My thoughts will burst free Like blossoms in season Foundations will crumble And structures will tumble And free men shall cry Die gedanken sind frei'
At first, people tell those new to the story that One Piece gets good at Arlong Park. Then, when those people reach they, they move the goal post and say that One Piece gets good after you enter the Grand Line. When you reach Drum Kingdom. When you experience the epicness of Arabasta. The adventure of Skypiea set to the backdrop of the generational promise. Or they might just skip directly to Water 7 and Enies Lobby. That is where One Piece really gets good. TB? SA? ID? MF? Who is to say whether those arcs can live up to the hype of the glory that is the saga you are currently watching. Not to mention the entire mythical post-timeskip some people are talking about... When One Piece fans say that the story only gets better, they might be a bit biased and ignoring some warts, but they surely aren't far off either. Water 7 and Enies Lobby are the point where Oda starts to transition from laying the groundwork of an amazing world while telling mostly self-contained stories, to actually moving the pieces around. This is where Eiichiro Oda begins to show he is not just a master of the micro, but also of the macro. And while a jack of all trades excels at nothing, the overall quality of his work definitely goes up to another level. People will say that Water 7 and Enies Lobby are peak One Piece, and that is definitely true... but at the same time, we've only barely started climbing the mountain, too. Please enjoy the climb as you continue to reach greater heights than you will imagine possible - even more-so than these very episodes!
I think Kokoro said especifically something about Enies Lobby not being invaded, the strawhats are not the only ones who made enemies with the world goverment.
One of the biggest moment in One Piece. When Luffy told Sogeking to shoot the Flag, you see that Sogeking, Nami, or even Chopper don't flinch or question it despite knowing the consequence. They might be acting scared lots of time, but this moment is the confirmation that every single member of the Strawhats is always ready to throw their life for the sake of their comrades.
Yeah. I keep thinking about about what Coby said in the live action about their being different rules for different pirates. On the flipside Sakazuki is the walking embodiment of no exceptions. If he had his way... well... you can see how merciless he is.

In these chapters, Oda has perfected the heart-wrenching backstory leading up to one of the greatest lines in literature. You'd have to be heartless to not cry.
Remember the name of the man who blew up the evacuation ship… Vice Admiral Sakazuki…
I used to think Robin was old, now I'm 31 and think she's young 😅
tbh i kinda agree with the survivor ship being blown up.
The Most Touching AND BADASS MOMENT !…One of the More RENOWNED events in OP History
Remember Luffy defending Chopper's flag? Luffy knows what attacking a flag means.
Peak. One Piece.
Saul's last scene in the English dub is goated
In Ohara there is a great look at the "Justice" of the One Piece world, Aokiji follows what he is told, and both Saúl and Sakazuki go against orders but as Sakazuki's extreme methods fit with the goverment's wishes he is allowed to be, while Saúl is seen as a deserter but he is just following his sense of Justice as well.
The goverment doesn't want people that just follow orders, they want people that will follow their "Absolute Justice".
Now for One Piece at a time:
Sakazuki in the present is Admiral Akainu, who acording to the G8, is Jonathan's mentor, somehow.
44:20 I think that this is maybe the best theory about Aokiji's actions when he attacked the Straw Hats. Spot on imo.
Don't dare compare Sogeking to ussop,
Sogeking has a theme song
While ussop have none. So prove me otherwise
These are indisputable facts.
One of the best anime VA moments OF ALL TIME!!
One of the best moments in one piece 🔥🔥
some of the in depth convos yall have i can't even say shit without spoiling anything............but it is good that you have such talks after a episode, i understand how hard it is not to just binge a handful of episodes then talk about it........
I know ppl have their preference, but to me, "I want to live!!" Line hit harder for me in dub. One of the top moments during this arc.
To be honest both VAs did such an amazing job here. I'd probably say I prefer the dub as well just because I, as an English speaker, i relate to it more, obviously. But they're both so good.
@@Courier_Seven 👈 very true.
Ya know, that’s an interesting point about Kokoro. Because she might and there’s a good, cultural reason for that
the detail in how Robin character is built upon by looking at her interaction before and after this arc, you'll notice how oda really put into account her psychological issue towards people, like she only open up a little bit to luffy while not really to other strawhat, like only calling him name whilst nickname for other SH, it's subtle but it's there, see the change, the peak is here
In my opinion the most saddest backstory of the Straw Hats
Robins voice acter was so unbelivebal good in this scean
Franky is SO "us viewers"... damnit... i love those guys!! 😭❤
How is it that Robin sees Chopper do you think?
That's she sees him as a child like she once was (some argue specifically that he's as good as HER child), or that he's as good as the stuffed animal she probably wanted as a child
One day you will realize why luffy said "I now understand well the identity of robin's enemy"
Tribute song to Robin and to the scholars of Ohara - Die Gedanken Sind Frei (Thoughts Are Free), a German song written (I think) around the time of Germany becoming one country, I first heard of it when I heard of anti-Nazi non-violent activist Sophie Scholl playing it on her flute outside the prison her father was sent to for calling Hitler a 'scourge against god', these are the lyrics for the version recorded in the 1960s by Pete Seeger:
'Die gedanken sind frei
My thoughts freely flower
Die gedanken sind frei
My thoughts give me power
No scholar can map them
No hunter can trap them
No man can deny
Die gedanken sind frei
I think as I please
And this gives me pleasure
My conscience decrees
This right I must treasure
My thoughts will not cater
To duke or dictator
No man can deny
Die gedanken sind frei
And should tyrants can take me
And throw me in prison
My thoughts will burst free
Like blossoms in season
Foundations will crumble
And structures will tumble
And free men shall cry
Die gedanken sind frei'
This is the where I could never let go of this series.
36:20 ODA never missed the chance to tell us that you have a reading comprehension problem ...
Watched this reaction twice. Dereshishi does hit different now, doesn't it?
I expected you guys to talk about the name of the ancient kingdom more. Somehow just the name of it is a huge deal.
Best backstory in One Piece to this day.
42:44 I WANT TO LIVE!!!!!
One of the most iconic scenes in the entire series, such a deeply powerful moment! 😭
Every One Piece Fan can remember this scene, and it has moved many of us to tears!
This is where one piece starts ..congrats you are now on the rollercoaster welcome to the greatest fiction ever created
