This is silly, i looked everywhere for something like this with my 2015 Chrysler 200 and you are the first person to ever show this. Couldn't find it in manual, asking mechanics, and even had a mobile mechanic come over with a diagnostic tool. Nothing.
Wow, that's the kind of info that maybe is written on the owner's manual but nobody ever reads it (even when they should!). Thanks for this critical piece of information, really appreciate it!!

Nissans dead key fob start procedure is identical to Chrysler. Awesome tip, this video will certainly save a lot of people some headaches and wallet pain.
I have heard other brands have the same back up procedure.....cool to see which do and which dont. Yeah its sure to save money when it comes to a tow. Thanks for the comment and make sure to subscribe.
That is great to know. In Wisconsin if you leave the key outside in sub zero temps it really weakens the battery (discovered this while winter camping). I was two hours away from home trying everything I could to warm up the FOBIK so that the battery would be strong enough for the Jeep to recognize it... now I know I can relax about that.
Great info. I don’t have to worry about this though since my ‘06 Dakota uses an old school key, one less thing to worry about, but if I ever get around to buying a late model Ram, now I know.
One of my FOBs has gone dead. I use one more than the other and now one is unresponsive. I change the battery thinking that was the problem but nothing. No change so I heard that they fall out of program if you don't use them both equally. So, I have one that works and the other is dead. He said if they're not both used continuously, they fall "out of love" with the car and then need to be reattached to the car. Hmmm... but now I know WHY. Thanks for the video.
Dude this just happened on my friends Jeep Cherokee! It ended up being the batteries in the key fobs went bad! The car sat in my driveway for a week . My other friend is a chrysler mechanic and we thought it was the wyn module. I’m surprised he didn’t know that about the key. Thanks your videos are very helpful.
That video is totally what I need. My son has a new Durango RT with the same set up. When his key fob craps out, I'm going to use this trick to blow his mind that the old man isn't totally dumb. Lol
I have to think that not all of them know this either. It should be talked about for sure at time of purchase.....its in the owners manual but if your like me.....who reads it lol

as I said on your facebook page(described this exactly) it is important to remember this key fob is always powered up, unlike others where it only uses power when you press a button, thats why the handle will unlock without pressing a button,(so change the battery at least once a year) carry extra batteries, to change just take out the key put it in the slot at the end and twist , the fob will come apart take the old battery out, put the new one in and voila
As a owner of a Cruze with the smart key. Some times it doesn’t recognize my fob. I figured out, repeatedly pressing the lock or unlock, until I hear the locks work. That usually pairs them together.
Before u move on to everything at 2:54 how do u fix it if it won’t go to acc or start mode? My 2017 Chrysler 300 key fob locks and unlocks etc but trying to start the vehicle it just says doesn’t recognize fob and just stays in off mode….
Good tip, although I think it’s funny that you felt it necessary to show how to unlock the door with the key. “So after I stick it in I have to turn it? Jeez, so much work!” 😂
I'm up here in Canada...Just a couple of days ago, a purchased a brand new 2024 JLU Rubicon, in Montreal, and was in the process of driving it home to New Brunswick, (through the state of Maine)...Half way there, on a minor, 2 lane highway, in the middle of Maine, I had to stop due to a railroad crossing signal... In order to save gas, I put the vehicle in park and shut off the engine...It wouldn't re-start, and road-side service wasn't able to help me...I was stuck, blocking my lane, for about 2.5 hours...Luckily, I found the Key FOB solution, on the internet, in which you physically use the Key FOB to push the starter switch/button, and it actually started... Sometimes it also means the battery in the fob is weak. I have been through this with my 2017 Chrysler 300 a few times. I noticed the battery in the fob needs to be changed often. After I change the battery, it works like new.

Hi David, this is a great video. I have a similar issue with this system on a UK Jeep Grand Cherokee, My issue is that it says service keyless system. Now what you suggest here doesn't work, so I was just wondering if you had any other ideas? Just to diagnose I have a new battery in the cars and 2 new batteries in the fobs. It has been to Jeep and has all the updates but no luck, anything else you can suggest?
Had an issue of not being able to gain entry into my new smart entry Toyota. Turned out, rescue affiliated service couldn't even gain entry without breaking windows as the emergency key doesn't work if you have double dead locked your car. Car had to be moved with skates. After unloading the car started first time. Dealership informed me that they had a known issue where there are dead spots in the signal. Sometimes you only had to move the car a few foot to work again. Apparently there was a black spot in the car park at Trafford centre where it was always happening. Toyota head office said they were aware but decided it was more important that the cars security was upheld. I laughed & said it wasn't much good to the owner if they couldn't drive the car. True story, I kid you not.
@@rgrndu I'm no expert but on setting the cars alarm I pressed once to activate & second to deadlock. It's a secondary locking system, like a dead bolt which makes the door extremely hard to jack open with a crow bar say. The emergency key only opened the door if you had set once. Hi David, I was wondering if you could point me in the right direction on how to replace my ignition switch. My switch is completely pressed in. It looks like a simple job but I can’t find how to remove the interior panel around the switch to swap it. Thanks.
My 2019 Chrysler 300 is having this issue. I got a new fob battery, yesterday, it didn't fix the issue. I touched my fob to the button and it got me home. Now today, same thing, but even touching the fob to the start button doesn't work. My 300 will not detect the fob with new battery, nor will it start the engine. Any suggestions will be appreciated. And thanks for the video, man👍
I'm having this issue with my 2012 town and country however when I use the mechanical key it sets off the alarm. I've learned that on my model I can pop the button out and insert the fob to start
What I want to know is what are we supposed to do when the problem isn't the key. Mercedes solved that issue with a traditional style ignition under the push start button. What do we do when the problem is the button itself?
We had a set up like that before this system which did the same thing as pushing the key on the start button. If the key isnt the problem then it wouldnt make a difference.....your getting it towed. They can only put in so many back up systems for the "what if" situations. At that point you would be guessing as to the cause with out having a higher end scanner to check for codes in all the modules. Thanks for watching and for the question
Well good luck especially when your fob worked before you left, locking it & setting the alarm because as sure as heck, it's not going to let you in w/o alarms going off, lights flashing with the key...sitting outside residence inn and I'm stranded 9:00 at night. POC car
Great video! When I bought my used '13 team 1500, it only came w/one key fob! I bought another one online and learned I needed to go to the stealership and get the key fob programmed.... $60 for the labor cost... $30 for them to plug into my OBD2 and pair the fob w/vehicle! Prices may vary from stealership to stealership but $100 to do 10 minutes (i watched them from the outside the bay) of work! This was in Southern Oregon at one of the biggest ram stealerships in the PNW. SMH.......
A few others have mentioned other brands as well. Seems to be the universal backup for these systems. Thanks for the info and for watching. Make sure to subscribe if you havent already.
Yep that happened ta me once in a 2016 Chrysler 200 remote. The battery went ta the ether. Wish i knew about this last year cause i couldnt find any verbage in the owners manual discussin this.
Amazing tip assuming that the no-start condition is due to an antenna proximity or signal interference issue. BTW, I have a 2019 Compass with this setup but I have a standard transmission. Can I still bump-start it if the battery is weak?
I think a few horses hooked up to it could.....Jason at Engineering Explained summed it up and explained it best, just about any vehicle can pull that load. Good old PR stunt. Thanks for watching Tim!
The instruction about how to use an inoperative remote key fob - to get dodge journey to start - news to me -very helpful -but just realized would not have helped my sit. as I misplaced the FOB and could not find it - til about a year later. Does a factory FOB - realizing it would require programming - have any retail value? Especially when compared against look a like FOB's which can present problems to program sucessfully? Thanks
Hi David. Great video as usual! Thanks for sharing this info with us. I have a 2015 Ram 1500 with the eight speed transmission. I was wondering if there was a way to check the fluid at home, seeing as how they don’t put a dipstick in anymore? Thanks in advance! Keep up the good work!
I've done a drain and fill on my 300. You have to go underneath. There is a plug on the front side (driver side, I think) that you have to remove to fill and check. You fill until the fluid starts running out and then put the plug in. My suggestion is to raise the side that the plug is on higher than the other side to help retain more trans fluid. Also, drive the car a little and recheck the fluid. After the first time doing this it turns out it was a little low. Must have drained some out of the torque converter or something that pumped back up after driving a bit. I was about a quart low. You basically have two options for fluid. The OEM Mopar stuff or Amsoil makes one that is rated for the 8 speed.

SMH.......
Most automotive locksmiths can program them in as well, usually for less money.
Thanks bro my friend just call me he couldn't start his car. So I follow your instructions how to start the car its perfect he save 220 for now.
Nice Dave! My Mazda CX-5 2018 has the same thing. I feel much better know that.
A few others have mentioned other brands as well. Seems to be the universal backup for these systems. Thanks for the info and for watching. Make sure to subscribe if you havent already.
MotorCity Mechanic Dave! Dude! You helped me out a lot with the patriot a while back!
@@GSOAguitarplayer I see some many replies and screen names lol. Now that you mentioned it your name does ring some bells lol. Thanks for being loyal.
Yep that happened ta me once in a 2016 Chrysler 200 remote. The battery went ta the ether. Wish i knew about this last year cause i couldnt find any verbage in the owners manual discussin this.
Yeah it happened to mine so I made the video. Thanks for watching it and for taking the time to comment. Dont forget to subscribe.
Amazing tip assuming that the no-start condition is due to an antenna proximity or signal interference issue. BTW, I have a 2019 Compass with this setup but I have a standard transmission. Can I still bump-start it if the battery is weak?
Awesome info, David and very well done.
My Ram truck with the Cummins 6.7 diesel could easily pull that train!! Thank you for the great analysis!!!!
Thanks
Thank you David for this information...put I have questions is it the same thing if car not starting buy remote ..keep going 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Very helpful video, thanks for making it
Your welcome Val! Thanks for watching it
So that's how you turn it on for only ACC. As a owner of a 2012 Chrysler 300. Thank you!!
Thank you David .
Your welcome Mike! Thanks for watching.
Hello my friend! I am your subscriber. I have a Chrysler 300 2012, the remote start stopped working ... What do you advise?
