Dang that hits hard "Storage Unit is just a big 'Time will tell' bin". Why is it that you always know what I am struggling with? Have 3 storage sheds on my property and I told myself this summer I finally decluttering those. Then you hit me with this. Gonna be my mantra when I go through them. THANK YOU.

I’m only 7 minutes in and I’ve noticed AGAIN how much in love you two are. I would wish every couple/family would be fortunate enough to have a relationship as good as yours…I do realize every family has hiccups!!!

I put off working on my basement for years. I decided that I didn't have to do it all in one day, duh!! I worked about and hour a day and accomplished the job. So freeing.

LOL sorry that's so corny but, well it's true. Your own momma probably agrees. Also, congratulations on all of your successful efforts with Ms Dorothy's house! How absolutely incredible to see the finished cafe. It's beautiful. Her dream is coming true and that's so inspiring. We need to listen to those God Given Dreams, regardless of age. He's counting on us to do His work. Ms Dorothy is doing it and so are you. Good job sweet hearts, good job!

We had a storage unit that kept going up in price. We also have a small house. I don't want to use inside-the-house space for things I am only going to use once or twice a year, like seasonal decor or snow equipment or summer fun stuff. Some of it takes up a lot of space and we kept it at the storage unit. Finally I decided to save the money I was giving to the storage company and bought a nice one for our property. It took 2 years to pay for, and everything was organized the way I wanted it, easy to access and I even put the toys my grandkids like to play with out there so they aren't cluttering up my space and it only comes in when they come over. It's an extension of our home where only the things we love, but don't use all the time live. It's been wonderful.
That is great that you were able to do this. The prices at the self storage facility are going up because our costs have gone up...staff/wages, hydro, utilities, gas, snow removal, maintenance...
You two are such a gorgeous couple of Minnesotans!

I just started my decluttering journey right after Christmas. I watch your current videos but also have gone back to the beginning and am watching most of them in order.
You have truly been an inspiration! At this stage I am just shooting for a decluttered house. I'm not sure I could really achieve a minimalist house (my husband would throw his body in front of an oncoming train to protect his books). However, I do sometimes dream what it would be like to have a minimalist home.
I've even stopped thinking about a bigger house and just started thinking about a clutter free home instead. Bless you and your family and thank you for letting us all into your home!

You have gotten me thru many days of chemo. I would set up a Dawn mix, close my eyes and listen for your laughter. Sadly my decluttering journey did not get far. Oh well. I'm just so happy to have seen your sweet face one more time. Your love and enjoyment with your kids is precious. I've had that too. And the bonus of enjoying being a Grandma to 5. The oldest 9, the youngest 2 months old. Thank you again for adding to my blessings with the joy of laughter and another mom just loving God and her family.
If you feel the need to pray, please let your prayers be that the air ambulance can return me safely to Montana. My husband and I came to Florida for a weak of warmth. Instead I have been in the hospital for 9 days. As much as I enjoyed seeing your faces, a 1000 x more I need to see my children's faces and get one last hug.

Pam here….you guys have been through the gauntlet with the farmhouse! Starting to remind me of the movie Money Pit. Will be so good to have renters in and settled.
It's very smart of Tom to check everything before renters move in. We rented a house once that had the water turned off between renters. We contacted the water department to turn it back on before our move in day and it flooded before we could move in. The pipes must have busted during the winter so the landlord had to repair it before we could move in.

We live in Colorado but will be in The Cities next weekend and are going to try and stop by! I am going to fill a suitcase. Love the charities you support.

Better than the huge mimosa tree we found growing into our line. Thankful for friends with chainsaws and large machinery to remove the tree and a husband who can rebuild sewage lines. Always something.

Sandbox and mud kitchen! Built our mud kitchen from pallet lumber. Thrifted muffin tins, coffee cans, metal spoons etc. I laminated “recipes”: 20 leaves torn into pieces , 1/2 cup sand(great to teach math!), 1cup water. Mix. Muffin tin. Sun bake for one day.
I can;t tell you how much you speak to me. I know if i happened to run into you I could sit and talk like we were old friends. I often repeat your message to friends and family. The other day my sister said, Oh, is that the four burner lady?

Seeing Tom on a project reminded me of the old days when you were working on your own house, loved those videos, really inspirational! Also, today I’m loving the idea of creating routines and understanding why we struggle to create them.

I agree with Rebecca in your group. As I slogged through my family photos from years gone by, organizing and placing into albums, it took me much longer than anticipated because I ran into some times of remembering hardships and emotional times. I had to take multiple breaks, and had some times of extreme sadness. But now it is done, and that gives me a sense of accomplishment.
I have been preaching your system of decluttering along with Dana White’s simple ways to declutter, and was able to help my daughter by giving her a system to declutter things in her storage room. She took the ideas and ran with them! I was so proud of her! She took a storage room from cluttered to organized, spacious and clean. I also helped her deliver her cast-offs to a charity store.
Now I have a widow friend looking for help in decluttering and letting go of things she hasn’t touched since her husband’s death. I know she’ll feel so much better when she can see order return to her little house. But most of all, I think she needs a nonjudgmental friend, and someone to give her permission to let go of things. I hope to provide all that for her.

Yes to what you, Matt and Rebecca say about storytelling. It is so cathartic and an important part of all cultures because it is healing. If you are sad at the thought of going through the stuff then it might mean that you are grieving, and the storytelling will help heal the grief.
It’s so affirming isn’t it? And there’s just something validating about putting a story into words instead of only holding the feelings about it.
My sister in the nursing home calls several times a day. I just bring her along with me in my day. I'm body mirroring...

I'm so excited for Tom that he's focused on the properties. Having owned properties, Idk how people film videos and work on properties simultaneously. That must slow down property work SO much. Focusing on ONE thing elevates the quality of that ONE thing exponentially.

Reduce my guilt and give a woman who has gone through hell, comfort and style for her feet! Win-win.
Well, missed the "live", but always enjoy these update videos. Glad all is well with you all, and the farmhouse being rented is great news! To the lady struggling with what to move, get rid of all you can! When we moved to OH from CA, our buyer had lost everything in a fire ..we.left every stick of furniture except my mom's old buffet!! It felt sososo good! I know it was an unusual occurrence but it sure helped me to let stuff go. Then i found our Minimal Mom and am enjoying mental freedom more and more from "stuff". And take pictures of stuff if you want to remember it. Much less storage required!! 😊
I recently moved from KY to OR so a similar distance. I also left so much behind and am happier for it. My buyers in KY hadn’t lost things to a fire but I left them what they wanted and had many “free garage sales” where much of the rest went.

Thanks for saying that your brain continues to work on a space after you leave it. I've found that 5 to 15 minutes at a time accomplishes a lot and keeps me from getting overwhelmed. My brain keeps working on the space, and I take a few minutes when I can to do what I think of.
I saved my moving boxes and materials for my nieces and nephews. Supplied some tape and age appropriate cutting devices. The older kids had a blast building a fort and adventure maze for the younger kids!
I loved hearing about the new well and huge blessings there!!!! Wonderful news!!!

Hi, I have been following you for a long. I watched you and Matt Paxton . I feel the same way. The older generation has so many memories to share. All it takes is the time to listen to. I am declutterring. It feels good.
I so agree. Sometimes when I’m at my mom’s house we go through a box or two and she tells the stories. She’s not often ready to let something go but if someone in the family would really treasure it, she’s glad to pass it along. We were able to create an entire closet of clothes to give to grandkids etc. when I was last there. So now, when anyone comes to visit, they can shop grandmas closet 😊
I'm interested in the bundt cake book if you print it again. What a wonderful ministry to Dorothy's house. It is so incredible to see prayers answered in such unfathomable ways for Dorothy's house.

Speaking of the future... we had an esky for 10 yrs, never used it, not even once, finally got rid of it and 2 yrs later we bought a boat and need an esky lol
If you continue to have septic issues, check with your county/regulatory. They may allow you to install a new tank and building sewer to get you by until spring. Mine does. If this weather continues, we may have contractors starting septics next month on the west side of the State.

I had a similar issue and it turned out to be a washer lint plug.
Newer "HE" washers cause more lint than older ones.

Dawn. You would love my friend Andrew Mellen. He is known as AKA the World's Most Organized Man in America and his one book is called "Unstuff your Life". He has such a precious mindset is the main thing too he looks at in "our story" and his tips too on our Story and mindset is what sets him apart. He was on Oprah and you could both be on each other's podcasts. Kristin Hart is is admin too. She is a precious friend. He says too, If everthing is precious then nothing is precious and Your Grandma is not the tea cup
