@@edwardkohv7337 what is your question? I emphasize that the French version is also produced by Benny Andersson & Björn Ulvaeus, and that they sing the French background track
I get the impression you had not previously heard the original ABBA version - which is fair enough, nobody said you should, but you probably should at least see it after. And yes, Mireille (pronounced me-ray mat yer, by the way) is indeed beautiful - and also, though not detectable from the video as she's perfectly in proportion, tiny: 5'/1.52m. That powerful voice from such a small person is one of the many things her fans love about her. (And the crash-helmet hairstyle is almost as much her trademark as Ms. Mouskouri's glasses.) Yes, do see the original ABBA one. The words are slightly different - more a sad breakup than the man being a complete rat; written around the time they were actually divorcing, so poignant in that sense. (And ABBA at least have remained friends, as witnessed by their recent reunion/album.)
I read through the comments, and while this was touched on, please allow me to make it perfectly clear. This song is a cover of "The Winner Takes It All" (1980) by ABBA. As some others have mentioned, ABBA sings background and helped to produce this version of the song. Would you be interested in watching the original version of "The Winner Takes It All"? You'll definitely feel the pain of the song, even more so when you realize that the lead singer, Agnetha Faltskog, and band member/songwriter Bjorn Ulvaeus had recently divorced. I studied French in high school, and I've always loved Mireille Mathieu's version of this song. The English translation you read is fairly accurate as a direct translation of the French lyrics; however, they do not translate word-for-word with the original English lyrics. The heart of the story does remain the same, though.
Mireille has been one of the most exported french voices during the 60es up to the 80es. She's a good performer, though way too "folkish" for my tastes, she didn't have the class of a Marie Laforet, Barbara or Françoise Hardy but her strong voice was the epytome of frenchness like Aznavour.

I beg to disagree. The texts and style are vastly different. ABBA's original version is much more defeatist and much more passive than aggressive. Mireille Mathieu's version, on the other hand, portrays the past lover as an outright traitor who didn't just won a game, but who is oblivious of having destroyed the happiness of both by means of conspiring and treating his first partner as an object. In my opinion, the French text, and Mireille's interpretation, reintroduces a much needed sanguine component in what is otherwise a lukewarm, slightly cynical song.

the French version with Mireille Mathieu is also produced by ABBA, they sing the chorus in French, if you haven't noticed:)
and what made it worse? sung magnificently by a great singer, why emphasize this?

Mireille Mathieu is very good also when she sing Edith Piaf's songs

Gran interprete francesa. 😊😊😊
The next song from her you should cover is Santa Maria de la Mer

Мирей Матье - уникальная. Но, эта песня, в ее исполнении, не вызывает большого интереса.

Too ah gan-yay - you won or you have won. And now you know where Abba got their song "The winner takes it all"
Isn't it the other way round?

it's ABBA. And it seems to me that this french version doesn't add anything to the original one.
