Mireille is a truly great singer with a fantastic voice. I’ve heard her three to,es live in concerts, and at 70 she is still great. I find it amusing that some Frenchmen pour out their hatred for her without realising that she is a true symbol of France whether they want it or not, and her voice is a national treasure that advertises French culture in much the same way as songs by Edith Piaf.

Mireille Mathieu can sing whatever she wants, any style. She has complete control on her voice. But she’s been so strongly typecasted as the singer with one hair style, one type of song, one type of presentation. She’s prisoner of her image. Probably there’s no artist so prisoner of a style. As for her hair, forget about a change, too late to change something. She’s 76 years old. On her last photos, she looks rather like 80. She’s got it all. She doesn’t need anything now.
Mireille Mathieu has a great voice, it’s undeniable… But it’s hard for me to picture her singing this kind of song: too romantic… I agree about the covers: almost all original songs are better. I only found one cover being better…
I actually heard this version first and it (this song that is) was associated with Mireille Mathieu in my mind till I heard the original by ABBA later in life and I was pretty surprised that it was actually ABBA's song because I didn't know it as the ABBA's song before. Thank you for reacting to this, Dereck! I am a huge ABBA fan, too, and I've always felt Mireille's cover was good. I studied French in high school and college, and I loved how they translated the lyrics into French and made the song work.
ABBA have incorporated many influences into their songs, I have a dream (Greek), Mamma Mia (Italian), Fernando (Spanish). And the winner takes it all is basically a French chanson, so it's logical that Mireille sang it.

At the time of the French release by Mireille Mathieu, everyone agreed that her version was better than the original from ABBA. Let's be honest, I love ABBA but Mireille Mathieu has a superior voice ... Note that Mireille Mathieu is a very very practicing Catholic who comes from a very large family (14 brothers and sisters ...) and who wanted to become a nun when she was a teenager before finally becoming a singer ...
@@dowdydow Wash your ears and compare the two versions vocally! I love ABBA but neither of the two singers in the group has the vocal power of this lady ...
N'IMPORTE QUOI !!!
nonsense. First of all, supposedly superior voice doesnt make any cover version better automatically. You have to catch the song's essense, emotionally get it right, with right approach and delivery. Just being overly dramatic doesnt make any cover version automatically better. Mathieu's version is confrontational and slightly aggressive (especially, in quiet parts where she almost theatrical - whereas in ABBA version Agnetha sings those parts with sadness and humility). Secondly, dont hear much difference vocally - both have intensity and power and ring or treble in their voice. Tone of their voices and singing style are different. Overall, imho, Mathieu's version is good but it's not superior to original. It's slightly aggressive and too theatrical in approach. and almost melodramatic. whereas ABBA's original is more nuanced in its emotional impact, with pure sadness and hurt and sense of regret.
Nice video !!! .... again 😉 For your next reaction, I offer you a challenge: a French song about cyber-bullying at school. It is a great french singer (great voice) called Keen'V and his song is Petite Emilie. It's very different from what you usually do and your reaction should be super interesting.

@@dowdydow Wash your ears and compare the two versions vocally! I love ABBA but neither of the two singers in the group has the vocal power of this lady ...
@@dowdydow You do not accept reality because you are too fan of Abba .... the explanation is obvious ^^
Nice video !!! .... again 😉
For your next reaction, I offer you a
challenge: a French song about cyber-bullying at school. It is a great
french singer (great voice) called Keen'V and his song is Petite Emilie.
It's very different from what you usually do and your reaction should be super interesting.
To definitively silence the bitchy tongues, the bedridden lovers and the acute paranoids, I confess it loud and clear: no I am not a fan of MM. On the other hand, I love her cover of "Libertine". Nah, I'm kidding. Everyone will have grasped the irony. Except one, guess who 🤣🤣🤣. Not my trip but do represents a large chapter of French music
Quelle horreur lol
Que invecil
Okay, it's a very good cover, but it's a cover. I thought you only took the originals.
He reacts to covers only after listening to the original.
No Dereck !!!! No Mireille !!! Nooooooooo !!!!!
Get a grip
Could you please tell me why do french people hate her? I am from Argentina and don' t understand french. :'-(
i really really dont understand you: you react since such a long time to french music. for me its not understandable that you dont care about the language.... its a typical american ignorance... that makes you not very sympathic.... after so many french titles, you should start to begin!

NO NO NO NO Derek !!!! France have so many genius composers and singers, with great original songs !! This bad choice is miserably ! You make so few videos to make suck mistakes. Mireille Mathieu didn t make any album 40 years ago because much french people hate her, she's old fashioned and only sell albums in 60's and 70's. New generations don't know she exists. Don't let believe that is the french music, it'a lie and a shame !!! You make us so disapointed this time, be careful of the real french touch.
Ugh disgusting opinions like this should be kept for themselves
I think so too, what you say Nomi
What do you mean be careful?I ,m not a teenager anymore but i love Dereck very much! And so do many others on this channel. And i can,t stand it when someone talks like that.We don't need haters😒
