in Big 10 it would be different. If Miami has even a decent season their games will draw eyeballs. Miami vs blue blood teams draws eyeballs. The B1G isn't kicking out any schools. Ever. Purdue is one of the top engineering schools in the country and has produced 27 astronauts who have traveled to space. I know the nerdy academic stuff doesn't matter to some segments, but it matters a whole lot to us in the B1G. Add that to the fact that they are AAU certified and are a recruiting juggernaut and a recruiting hot bed and you dont have too many more better fits
Totally agree that the Gators and Noles are more valuable. Question for you, who in the ACC or Big12 is more desirable than Miami? (FSU, UNC, Clemson, Notre Dame, ok, but who else.)
Miami is a UCLA type sidekick partner add for the B1G. If you are B1G Presidents are you excited to go see an FB or BB game in Miami? Absolutely. Don’t downplay the fun part that Miami brings to the B1G.
You are spot on with the UCLA comparison. You can add the poor Stadium issues ( attendance and location) as something else Miami has in common with UCLA. If I was the Big 10, I would add Florida State and unless ND agreed to come, that would be it.
@@davidbrown386 Great job on the show, WildUte. I get why David and Mr.Ed say UCLA is a sidekick partner type since they do bring lower overall value than USC in these realiignment talks. That sidekick moniker doesn't seem to tell the whole story since only the very cream of the schools bring more overall value to the B1G than UCLA according to WildUte's excellent analysis, OSU, USC, Michigan & Penn St. The member schools of the B1G confirmed UCLA's high value in voting to make them the only full revenue share addition to the league in their history, along with USC.
It’s certainly a negative for The University of Miami. A lack of on-campus stadium should not factor much into a conference membership decision. The lack of attendance and ticket sales isn’t money that was going to the conference. The Orange Bowl also wasn’t on campus. The stadium location becomes an issue only when the team can no longer attract the crowds to fill it. Similarly, UCLA doesn’t have an on-campus stadium. Having to play in the rose bowl hurts attendance and, IMO, distances the students from the culture of its football program. Was it a negative for gaining B1G membership? It doesn’t help. But, it probably made little difference in UCLA gaining membership.
Miami doesn't have the admission standards it needs to be in the big ten . Big ten bylaws say academic standards cannot be compromised. Key is admission standards not academic rank
The TV viewership chart is misleading. It "does not include ACC Network". Miami played most of its games on the ACC network. The rest were on Bally sports, which is a regional broadcast. So if it only counts the limited area broadcasts, of course viewership is going to be a small number.
What’s misleading about it? Nielsen doesn’t rate ACC Network games; nor Pac12 Network games. So either your can make an subjective guesstimate for a rating between teams like Miami vs Wake Forest (played on the ACC Network) or you can do what Nielsen does and simply not rate it. (There’s a reason it’s not rated. That reason is the viewership numbers are embarrassingly low.) If you think guesstimating is the way to go, I ask you this: what would the actual number be? I’d guesstimate it to be less than 200k per game, which is immaterial in the comparison.
@@wildute6958Setting all team/conferences biases aside, do you honestly think Illinois and Purdue average more viewers per game than Miami? That doesn't seem even a little unlikely? I know you think its weird because you guys even acknowledge how surprising it is in the video, intermediately after the segment pointing out that Miami is a national brand. What I am saying is that the Nielsen chart IS using Bally's numbers in those estimates. It explains the whole thing. Bally isn't even broadcast is 15+ states. So of course any estimate using Bally viewer numbers is always going to be lower. If you were calculating Utah's viewership it wouldn't make sense to use numbers excluding the entire east coast. That's what using Bally's numbers basically does. It cuts out the entire west coast and much of the north.
@@hurricaneJason07 On a 3-year average, yes, I do think Illinois and Purdue have pulled more viewership than the Canes. For two reasons: 1) B1G fans watch B1G football (all teams - good or bad). 2) Each B1G team gets viewership upside playing the likes of Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State. Now, if the question was rephrased to say that given the same variables (opponents, distribution, ranking, time of game, etc.), who would draw more - I’d say Miami is much stronger than Illinois/Purdue and most of the B1G. The point of this project wasn’t to do that type of analysis, and no one has other than perhaps media companies. Ask Miami (who was independent before joining the ACC in 2004 and since haven't won the ACC ) and Clemson who hasn't been back to the playoffs since Ohio State put them out of their misery in 2020.
As a native Floridian and FSU fan, notice how he does not talk much about Florida State, who actually beats the Gators and doesn't get owned like Ohio State 😅. FSU is 3-0 vs Ohio nuts and 2-1 vs Michigan with no games played in Tallahassee because you guys are big pussies. Looking at the state where the majority of your best recuits are actually from, I can see why you are so scared of the Florida schools being on an equal level. Maybe actually win a game against Florida State or even Florida before acting like some world beater when your team barely schedules anyone out of conference. Not every school is strong enough, like FSU to be the main rival for two schools. Michigan is with MSU and OSU even though its not on the same level as UF and UM as both are in state. I respect them for not being afraid to play teams like Ohio State. FYI Michigan actually has one win against FSU and UF. Ohio State has NONE 😂😂😂 The Seminoles are called the UNCONQUERED for a reason
Good review. Question for teams NOT FSU, ND or UNC.... those other teams won't get full shares. With only a partial share from SEC or B10, none of them would be able to leave the ACC unless the GOR is annulled. I mean do they make 25-35M in the ACC or 35-45M in the B10/SEC. And having to pay something.... And if only FSU leaves initially ESPN might pick up the media rights anyway. Some of the other schools might have to stay a while unless the GOR is broken
Miami is a half share fit. Their stadium is almost an hour away from campus, home crowd attendance is atrocious, travel crowd ranks in the dozens. TV viewership is low-mid. They have been in the ACC for 20 years and had one 10 win season. Yes, they get half if the BIG10 wants them at all.
New recommendations came into the fold after the original FSU video. There needed an academics component, so the above criteria was selected after consultation with B1G folks. Always trying to calibrate and enhance this thing for accuracy.
I would ne vsry interested in the market numbers after thr 2024 season. Miami fans will show up and watch when thr team is good. If they've bad, a lot of fans will find something else to do. They're not fair westher fans. Most fans would do the same thing if they had more options. I think playing in the ACC and not winning tmat a high level is killing Miami’s tv viewership. I would like to see the tv projections if Maimi wins the ACC and makes it to the CFP. Instant clout to join the B1G, in my opinion. The administration and booster have invested and committed to making Miami great again. This just happened when they hired Mario. This year we should see whst Miami will be moving forward.
It sounds more like you guys are making a lot of excuses for Miami, Your blaming theACC four the hurricanes failures, and not being able to succeed, but why were Florida State and Clemson able to overcome and not just win conference championships, but national championships? They have been playing in the same league. when the numbers look mediocre or don’t seem to be in your favor, you explain it away by saying that they will perform better in the big 10. but you had the same problems that the ACC has. outside of Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn state, who else has done anything and outside of Oregon which of the new schools entering your league have been that consistent? in nationwide viewership Florida State ranks seventh and Clemson ranks 22nd with Miami ranking 32nd and North Carolina ranking 46, but I guess you’ll say academics play the biggest part in the decision but what about the moves the two power conferences have been making shows you that they care anything about academics unfortunately, the only brand that matters is your football brand, because that what brings in the most money for your conference and for the TV executives because when it’s time to renew those TV contracts, nobody is gonna want to hear about assumptions about a team improving in a new conference.
Great comment, Dave. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Football ratings is the main realignment driver. But, the B1G does care about fit and academics for prospective members. It matters to this conference, unlike the Big12 and SEC. It’s a factor. Also, keep in mind academics only equates to 17% of the overall weight, so while a factor, wasn’t massive.
I suspect MIAMI gets better than average ACCN ratings (unavailable), but your findings suggest that MIAMI does get decent tier 1 channel ratings. Nevertheless, really evidences that this was a failed ACC expansion. MIAMI was supposed to be a football tentpole draw that didn't rely on playing another brand for ratings. Demanded dilutive CUSE/BC and then declined after the invite. Would a move to a P2 really change much?
@@wildute6958 it's mostly their crappy ratings. I wasn't even around when these 2 were playing for championships so I don't have anything against Miami perse. It comes down to a large number of people care about the gators and Seminole, but not many people care about the hurricanes.

You nailed it. Miami is a half share fit.
Spread the word.
New recommendations came into the fold after the original FSU video. There needed an academics component, so the above criteria was selected after consultation with B1G folks.
Always trying to calibrate and enhance this thing for accuracy.
Good work bud! Gooooo Bluuuuuueeeeee Baby!
🤙
I am sure the B10 donors would love a road trip to Miami.
Yes-Miami,Clemson,UNC,Duke,Syracuse,Pittsburg-should-go-to-the-big12
Give Big12 Miami, UNC, and Pitt. Pass on Duke and Cuse.
Why?
If UNC is a full share school then Miami is 😂. UNC has 0 history of winning anything and that has to be considered
UNC is a full share and Miami is a half share. Exactly! UNC brings elite bball and better academics, so they have a higher value proposition.
For one, there's SEC competition for UNC when there's none for MIAMI.
@@tarheel7460 Troll. I and many others say the same things.
Why the obsession?
@@tarheel7460 Such a fool, fraud and troll. Again, why the obsession?

FSU and Clemson much stronger adds
Yeah, it seems like Clemson is a really good option. I like them both, Miami and Clemson to the B1G.
No they don’t
David, you know that you and I want Miami in the Big12. Just don’t see that as realistic. Would love it though.
Think Miami is a strong brand, so with strong football success (top 5), they’re likely to draw more than other top 10-25 brands.
@tarheel7460 Troll. Can you at least attempt to reply to what I actually write?
@tarheel7460 So dumb. My comment dealt with MIAMI's decline after it won those nattys. Honestly,,do you read or just bot comment?
Miami is a sleeping giant
💯 agree. Miami will rise again.
Probably not. Small school. Small fan base. Just ok tv draw, no stadium. Doesn't really seem to fit
Does the “nole74” name hint have anything to do with this assessment. Haha😂
@@wildute6958 it's mostly their crappy ratings. I wasn't even around when these 2 were playing for championships so I don't have anything against Miami perse.
I dislike the Gators much more, but I can also see how the Gators and FSU or much more valuable to a conference than Miami. It comes down to a large number of people care about the gators and Seminole, but not many people care about the hurricanes.
