Respectfully, 2017 was not smoke and mirrors with “late wins”. They completely dominated VT and ND late in the season and lost to Pitt to close the regular season. I think that loss broke the team’s spirit and their play in the following two games was a reflection of that. Mario isn’t “on the hot seat” necessarily… but if he has a loss to any team because of some GT level blunder again … the banners may start flying.
The 2017 team lacked depth. Injuries caught up to the team eventually. The back breaker was losing TE Christopher Herndon late in the season. He was the best blocker on the team, and he was a release valve for Malik Rosier ! Miami couldn't run the ball the same without him, and Malik lost one of his favorite receivers. 🙌

When you can take FIU, one of the worst programs in D1 and build it up to a conference champion, you've paid your dues. Mario helped to win 3 chips at UM. He and Napier's situation is nothing alike. Real UM fans will give Mario all the time he needs. Regardless of his faults, perceived or otherwise.

Mario doesn’t get credit for being able to sell the supporters on what his plan is and where they are going. Even if he just gets 8 wins those supporters will be ok because they understand that our roster although talented the core is freshmen and sophomores. I’m hoping that with Cam at QB we can get to 10 wins and then the recruiting class will be top 5 and we can be very good. Look at the foundation he built at Oregon. We can be similar but that took more than 3 years even with Phil Knight money
I know it's a no no to say anything not positive about Mario. So he is a recruiter but his record is average. He should have won atleast two more games last season. IMO he needs to win 10 games to start shaking that average record.
Mario has come in and changed the culture of not just the players but the inept administration that was destroying the football team since Butch Davis left. This is the administration that did not want to spend any money could care less about the team. Dona Shalala was also a disaster. They hired horrible head coaches and athlete directors. Miami has always been good because of the local players staying home. Who would want to play for a college that does not care about the team when other colleges are doing everything to have the best football teams in the country? Miami has changed for the better after putting itself in a deep hole. Mario is building from that disaster. Oregon was bad when he took over.
No excuses for UF , FSU and Miami recruit against the SEC not the ACC , so Miami has hard recruiting battles also because everyone come fine and techies South Florida

Last year, Oregon was 3 points away from making the playoffs, and were ranked in the Top 6 all season, before they played UW in their conference title. In Mario's best season at Oregon (2019), they ranked #6 but only for 2 weeks.

Mario is near the finish line. He will be successful regardless of the coaching mistake last year with victory formation against GT. Most times when a coach makes a mistake like that (whatever the reason) normally doesn’t result in a loss, but…. Their play last year against A&M was very impressive. Biggest problem with most of the ACC teams is they have to learn how to win and not to fold.
