That was fantastic! Well done by the Horn section, top to bottom!
Fabulous job!!! As a horn player, I know from the inside just how difficult the Konzertstück is, for each part, not just the lead. These guys performed it brilliantly, and let's not forget the orchestra's fine playing as well. The tempos were quite brisk, yet the ensemble playing was dead on and everyone made it seem effortless. Bravo, bravissimo!
I don't think I've ever heard a better performance!
The best rendition I‘be ever heard. The first horn is fabulous. I love the zeal they play with.
The historic recording of Berlin Phil with Gerd Seifert... check it out.
Yes. This Frankfurt recording is BADASS!!!! No. Doubt.
But,... check out Gerd - it, perhaps, will make you spew coffee (or whatnot), because it's... yeah, check it out.
Remarkable performance ! The standard for horn playing has grown immensely over the past years.
His repertoire is quite limited. That instrument has been overshadowed by some popular instruments: piano, violin…
@@JP-ku5hw lol
they also usually get to edit three performances together to make these broadcast editions.
@@JP-ku5hw WTH???? You. Make. Nonsense.
LMAO!!!!!!!
@@JP-ku5hw gilipollas a más no poder
I have to agree that this is the best rendition ever. I should say that this is an outstanding performance. Outstanding horn players. Especially, considering how difficult this is to play. Schumann would have been very proud. Thank you so much for uploading this magnificent concert.
Großartiges Werk ! Großartige Interpreten ! Tolles Orchester ! Top Performance ! Einfach wunderbar !
I don't speak German, but I agree!
Incredible work and musicianship. 🎉🎉🎉
That’s what I call perfection 👌Marvellous!
A fantastic performance of one of the most difficult works in the concert repertoire. The ensemble was marvellous and they looked as though they were having fun.
Nice to see what the inside of the "Old Opera" looks like. In the mid-1970's, while I was stationed in Germany in the army, I attended numerous opera performances at the so- called "Tin-Can Opera House". I even go to see a concert performance of "Norma" from the upper balcony for 4 marks. Of course, I couldn't see half the stage!
.
How can ANYONE not love Schumann as a composer???
This orchestra never disappoints! A fine performance. I doubt any of us will experience a better one anywhere. Thanks, again, Frankfurt Radio, for sharing this.
I like this performance very much. Very good horn quartet, very balanced, extreme good clearity in the performance, lot of musical energy and not playing as loud as possible!!!
But, I do so love it when Gerd Seifert goes postal on the high notes with the Berlin Phil. I mean, it's totally down the studly lane. Make you spew your coffee.
Wow, what a performance! I loved it ❤
An outstanding performance by this uber talented team of hornists. Maybe the best rendition I've heard!
Brilliantly energetic, delightfully melodic music expertly performed by all Schumann's music has an inevitable and irresistible flow captured perfectly here. Bravo to all!
The most beautiful concerto ever written for brass instruments.
Thnak you! i didn' t know this composition!!
👏👏👏👏👏
Einen Überblick des 1. Satzes will ich Ihnen geben.
Kleiner Anfang: 0:05- 0:14.
A. Exposition: 0:14- 2:11.
B: Durchführung: 2:11- 4:34
A‘ Reprise: 4:36- 6:31
Coda: Das führt direkt zu Ende: 6:31- 6:58.
I really love this recording for how well we can hear the lower horn parts. They sound so beautiful.
Bravo, unglaublich gespielt!!!!!
40 years ago, great recordings of this were counted on one hand. Its just getting better and better. I used to be afraid that classical instruments would be cast aside and symphonies would become an endangered species. And while Dennis Brain is still unsurpassed as a musician and soloist, the average virtuosity has risen.
They make it sound so easy!
. Schumann en su esplendor 📯📯📯📯
I play horn and this is AWESOME 😍😍😍😍
Have you ever heard the Berlin Phil recording with Gerd Seifert playing the lead part??? Ridiculous audacity.
Absolut grandios gespielt.
I haven't heard or seen this wonderful horn times 4 concerto in some times. Imagine a concerto for four horns! I wonder what the impetus was for Schumann to compose this.
One story goes that the "valve" French horn had just been invented
and that Schumann seized the opportunity to be the first composer
to "show it off"---so to speak...
Schumann wanted to be remembered as one of the greatest composers of all time - so, he wrote an awesome work for FOUR FRIKKIN' FRENCH HORNS and orchestra.
That's how it's done, after all.
🙂
Bravo. It was good to have the audience back.
Best version ever bravo !!!
Stunning and spectacular! Bravo!
Großartige Leistung !!!!
was this thing even playable at the time it was written? it just sounds insanely difficult for the solo horns.
Absolutely phantastic!!
Fantastic performance!
Perfect performance
Bravo!
Fantastic. Way to go!
Soño ècceĺlenti çomplimenti bravissimi
Controlled and beautifully assertive playing
Always said this was a great BAND😄
excellent piece of music excellently performed! Chapeau!
Fantastisch!
Très bonne interprétation !
Great performance! Sounded strong)
Beautiful!
La prise de son est géniale ! Bravo
Amazing!
Mega!
incroyablement virtuose du jamais entendu
Excellent horn puzzle. Schumann never disappoints.
Super 😙💓
And this is why the French Horn is the king of the orchestra!
Congratulations, really enjoyed it!
best performance
That was some BADASS SH*T.
Браво
Is it just me or does the video feel sped up? it's like we're watching it at 1.1 speed
Incrível bravo
Performers' skills have progressed so immensely over the two centuries past and yet to this day only a handful of the most brilliant virtuosos are up to the task. just can't imagine who could have been capable of performing this at the premiere in Schumann's times. Most genius composers' karma and immortality at the same time is how long after their demise before their aspirations are fully and truly realized. All of these extraordinary musicians are worthy of a thousand standing ovations, though I must say, if I had to choose, I'd prefer Baborak, Dohr, Jezierski and Willis's performance with the Berlin Phil from 2009. There's an excerpt here on youtube from Digitalconcerthall with a link to the full version on their website
Hot damn--and I thought that Gergiev's performance was good, this is every bit as good.
Great job horns! But why in the world does the conductor need a score?
😊🎶
Thank GOD they put on masks for the curtain call. LIVES SAVED!
Bravi
Awesome....But it seems like there were 2 1rst horns...I mean, the soloist part was shared
Right!
@@marcgruber5865 Was this arranged by someone, or did you work it out amongst yourselves?
@@jl2richter it is a version of Prof. Dalmann and we split up the movements between 1st and 2nd
When you’ve got two of the best first horns in the world, might as well hear both of them! ;-)
I had the same impression! Very clever solution 👍.

This quite strange and attractive Konzertstück would be quite difficult, especially for the first horn, if played with valve horns. It is indeed at the very limit of what could be played on the natural horns requested by Schumann. This is an opportunity to say the truth about Schumann's instrumentation technique. It is often told that it is too heavy and that his tune combinations are not very attractive, this is more or less true. But by no ways anybody can seriously claim that he did not know how to write for orchestral instruments, and especially the horns, perhaps the hardest instruments for an orchestrator. This Konzertstück clearly shows how false is this assertion.
Actually, Schumann wrote this piece to specifically show off the capabilities of the valved horn, which had just been newly invented.
An addition: I just looked at the digitalized autograph located at the Berlin State Library. The 4 solo parts have "Ventil" writted above the word Horn to make clear that the soloists are to use valved horns. In the orchestra, however, the "ad libitum" horn parts say "Waldhörner", meaning they are to be played on natural horns.
Delightful piece but seriously what's up with the masks?
Is sad, that the conductor is all the time wih his nose in the score... Schumann represents himself, thatsthe good point. This is one of the brilliant concertos ever composed. I would be pleased to hear it played on Inventionshörner...
15:26 2nd Horn g instead of g-sharp 😭 You should know that the HR like all other senders in Germany are stealing money in the bank accounts of the people, without any law to back them for that, but with a huge corruption till the highest court in Germany. And all that for this awful modal borrowing. I am deeply schocked!
