omg, I'm so happy I found your page. I'm 20 and a criminal justice major with pre-law in mind since high school. The more I am in college the more I realize I am not a good test taker, this made me open to the idea of paralegal bc ik I love learning about the legal system, have a good work ethic, passionate, etc but the thought of all the test to be a lawyer make me anxious lol. Plus I don't want to just be getting adjusted in my career at 28-30 which most likely will push back my ability to start a family! I definitely think this could be a good career path for me too.
Omg same! I don’t why tests seem so intimidating. I completely understand your reasoning behind second-guessing law school. It isn’t for everyone (but it’s good that you’re thinking of this now!). I will say that if you do decide to go for it in the future, make sure it’s what you want and that you’ll be able to give it your 110% effort. Are you finished with your pre-requisites? If so, what’s your fav Crim class this far?! So glad you found this video helpful ☺️
This is super inspirational. I'm literally studying at a junior college now trying to get my degree in paralegal studies. My dream is to be a lawyer one day, but I want to get my foot in the door and gain as much experience as I can before going to law school and becoming a lawyer. I'm so glad that you found something that you can see yourself doing for a long time & I'm glad that you find your dream job! Keep up the excellent work
that's amazing! i graduated with a bachelor's degree in CJ about two years ago but had no idea what i wanted to do with it until this year i thought about being a paralegal so this was very helpful and inspirational tysm ^-^
Congrats!! 🤍You should do a bit more research (or watch some of my other videos) so that you know what being a Paralegal entails. I would suggest looking up Paralegal programs near you! :) Thank you for watching!
I am taking paralegal classes, so I'm glad I found your channel... it's taking me longer than I wanted to because I am paying for everything out of pocket...
Should try your city employment services office. Ask them for training in the field and ask them to get a memorandum of understanding MOU with the school on your behalf for the purposes of training. I asked in my state and they will pay for it 7k. Loyola of new orleans
How are you classes going?! And I totally understand that, I paid part of my undergrad out of pocket. Sometimes things take time, and that’s okay. Everyone’s journey is different. Wishing you the best of luck! 😊
I wanna be a paralegal but my degree is in English do you think I still have a good chance at becoming a paralegal? I just really realized that I wanna go into this field I always had an idea but I just finalized it for myself.

And please do not be upset or hard on yourself, be grateful that you realized now and are working towards it. Everyone’s journey is different and maybe not now, but soon you will realize why you’ve taken the path you have. Wishing you much success! 😊
I watched one video, now want to binge watch all. You are articulate. I was wondering in what city or state you work in. Glad you mentioned it here. I am also in L.A. I wonder about the paralegal market. I get scared that I may not become employed in law with good pay. I need 4 more classes to complete my certification. Thank goodness I already have my Bachelor’s Long process for me, taking 2 classes a semester, because paying for it myself and family obligations. I can’t wait to be me certified and get in the field. These videos are excellent. Thank you so much!
would you say most paralegal jobs require a bachelor’s degree vs a associate? I was thinking about going to a two year but I heard most jobs want you to have at least a bachelor’s.
Hi! Thank you for watching! And yes, from my experience most jobs require you to have a Bachelor's Degree (sometimes even over a Paralegal Certificate). If you choose the Paralegal route or not, I think having a Bachelor's degree will definitely come in handy!
It really depends on where you want to work and the attorney like some want a 4 year and a certificate or just a 4 year others don’t care what kind of degree you have as long as you have one some prefer to train on the job a secondary way attorneys do is promote experienced legal secretaries as far as cirtification by nala goes that’s completely voluntary but it will help notes: education is important but experience is key it’s a good idea to become a legal assistant legal secretary or file clerk before or while studying to become a paralegal an internship is a good way as well
Go Vikings and 49ers!!! The jails on wheels class with Dr. Ireland was my favorite class at Long Beach State. Professor Binnall classes were the toughest. I still don’t know why I took 3 of his classes lol.
Omg Go 49ers!! 🙌🏼😊 I actually visited the twin tower jail with Dr. Schug’s forensic psychology class!! I also had Binnall for a couple of classes as well, ahah same but learned so much from him! What year did you finish at LB State?!
I remember Dr. Shug. He had the study abroad class in Italy that I wanted to take but couldn’t afford lol. I transferred to CSULB in Spring of 2016 and graduated at the end of 2017.

So you have a minor/major and paralegal degree that’s the path I’m currently on now just not the same order I’m going to a Community College in my state to earn my paralegal degree then plan to attend a 4 year university for for my bachelors in political science and minor in social science my goal is to become a lawyer as well. So when you do a major and minor do you need less credits for the minor like is easy to obtain both? How many credits is needed for a minor?
Hi! I think that’s a great path to be on! Just curious, what made you want to go to paralegal school first? I haven’t heard of anyone doing that before! And yes, to receive my minor I believe it was an extra 6-8 courses if I’m not mistaken. Because I wanted to finish faster I also opted to study abroad for a summer which I was able to take 3 of my minor classes within a few months so that was helpful! Wishing you the best of luck!
Great content. Asking for a friend: 1) Does paralegal certification from an ABA accredited institution (as against non-ABA accredited schools schools) make a/any difference as to whether you get a chance at being employed at a fairly reputable firm/company/agency? 2) Do foreign law degree/foreign qualified lawyers with US paralegal certification stand any chance (at all) venturing into this field?
I would love to know the awnser to the first question as well! I currently attend a 4 year university, but I'm thinking of switching careers. I saw that a local community college has a paralegal studies degree, with it being a 3 year program (2 years paralegal studies then 1 year for the certification). I do wonder though if getting my degree and certification from a community college may affect my job prospects...
Hi! I’m interested in becoming a paralegal and the school I’m applying to is mentioning two programs offered: one that’s NALA approved and one that’s not. I wanted to know did you sit for the exam and is it necessarily required to become a paralegal?
I'm on the journey as well. @Emory. My undergrad and masters track was completely different than my passion. What city or metro are you doing paralegal work in?
How important do you think it is to try to get into the best/an ABA accredited school? Do you think it would be less essential for someone with related experience and a bachelor's degree?
Hi! And yes, you can!! I would suggest taking a paralegal program (they typically don’t last longer than 1 year). Once you’ve completed that you’d be more than qualified to become a paralegal!
Yes, you can! I touch on this a bit in my Q&A Part 4 that I uploaded today. As long as you have a degree and some experience in the legal field, you should be good. What're your next steps after getting your degree?
@@CrystalHurt My next steps would be to go to go to a community college for paralegal studies and get an associates degree --- however it will be financially challenging to obtain.
I would say almost immediately, paralegal courses are a fraction of law school so not nearly as much debt (if you take out a loan for your paralegal courses).
There legal assistants working in law firms that paid less and have earned the title without certificate it’s sad after getting the degree you have work basically fir the legal assistant who has no education
That’s unfortunate to hear, this hasn’t been my experience whatsoever. In fact, at a firm I worked at prior, I had a legal assistant assigned to assist me. 😊 All depends.
