Let me know what questions you have about being a lawyer!
Brittany Tran Was it easy to find a job after college, how long did it take? Loved the video ❤
after college, I went straight into law school so I didn't have to look for a job. If you meant after law school then it wasn't easy but it wasn't super difficult. It depends what types of jobs you are looking for, I was willing to take anything law related (even if it was a legal assistant).
What is the difference between lawfirm and inhouse? Thankyou,i love your videos😁
law firm is working at a law firm where you handle many different clients and cases. working in house means you work at a company in their legal department as a lawyer for the company. that means you are an employee of the company and represent the company in all their legal issues.
Thankyouuu for answering 💕 i just want to ask again, what are the difference between lawyer and a prosecutor 😁
I wanna be a lawyer or a stripper
Why dont be a lawyer and a stripper.. 😂
Hello Ashley u do u boo
Hello Ashley you gotta pay for college somehow
Stripper. You will make more money and pay less taxes. All cash. :) Cons to being a stripper is that you will get older and lose your looks.
Yeah girl
It’s comforting to know an introverted personality who likes writing and is non confrontational can succeed as a lawyer.
You can litigation or do transactional work. I have never litigated.

Yes, I'm hella shy irl and my public speaking skills are horrible. I will get better!

@@angelartamesia2 that shouldn't at all stop you from wanting to pursue your dreams of becoming a lawyer. Public speaking etc are skills that you can learn to incorporate in your daily life in future. Anything can be learned. You got this!💕
Can totally empathise with the bit when she said she didn't feel she had any special skills or special passions when she was younger.
That's me right now, and I'm in a law school because my parents told me
Sometimes you dont realize what skills you have that will benefit you. Being organized is a simple skill that will help you organize your arguments or keep the facts and law in order. Dig deep and try and figure out what things you are instinctively good at!
That’s me rn I literally have no passion for anything and dint know what I want to do with life

definitely !
I also wanted to be a lawyer. After working in a law firm, I decided to go to a pharmacy school instead. But life is just as tough no matter which direction you turn lol
haha true, there are lots of professions where people work long hours.
Messing up a prescription could have consequences as big as screwing up a legal contract due to incompetence. In both cases, there could be legal ramifications and you could lose your respective license.
you probably have no issues finding working at big pharma companies with those qualifications?i thought about a similar career
Dealing with thousands of pills it’s easy to screw up
it’s a very very stressful job. If people want their prescriptions now they want it now. You’re working on a prescription and someone comes in and their script isn’t ready you have to drop everything and work on it. Moreover, there are multiple cases where there’s 10 or more people waiting and you have to work on them as fast as possible. You’re constantly running and running trying to dispense 200 or more prescriptions a day. There are a lot of details you have to pay attention to for each patient and you also have to deal with their insurances. Also, the machine isn’t always the one counting and scanning. You have to be really good at multitasking and multitasking well. You absolutely cannot mess up a patient’s prescription. You also have to be extremely patient with the customers. These are just some things to consider if you want to become a pharmacist or a Phamarcy technician or if you want to be a clerk there. They all have different roles but they all absolutely have to be careful.
A lot of lawyers I spoke to claim they weren't alcoholics before law school.
It's possible, there's a lot of stress that goes into law school.
@Siege Yasharahla
Sounds like he needs a diversion program and supervision.

@@BrittanyTran I love the truthfulness of your video. But I had a question.
I'm thinking about switching my career from criminal justice (law enforcement) to being a paralegal.
Do you think it's a pretty good career.
I am an alcoholic law student...
I love law, politics, and history. I really enjoy writing and reading. Debating is my life and I feel a rush of joy and purpose every time I do, and I feel that Law is my true passion.
Finally, a comment I can really relate to! I’m the exact same 100%! It’s scary how spot on you got that for me 😂
Chen Kasher Thank you so much for the information.
Chen Kasher that’s really interesting! thanks for sharing! I’m thinking of going into tort law as well
same I think it might be my thing
I truly feel the same way as you
I quit medical school to go into law and it seems like one of the best decisions I've ever made. I love reading, writing, debating, and I really am passionate about the law. I used to read about politics and legal things in my free time during med school.
I just can't believe I didn't see myself as a lawyer sooner 😬
I’m doing the same thing and these videos are so supportive
I also did the same! I think that law school gives you a more critical mind. In med school it was just learning biological facts without being critical. But this is normal, what would be the point to be critical to the truth ? I didn’t felt that it was helping me growing as a person, because this wasn’t what I wanted to be and I wanted to grow different skills.
When I left med school and went to law school, I was so unsure about my decision but now I just regret to not having the guts to quit sooner.
With that experience, I learned that life is a journey and soon or later you’ll always come back to what you truly love in life.
omg, im preparing for law school but i was also considering medical school, I'd have to retake a whole year to even be eligible for med school, all because im so enthralled by the field of psychiatry. I will mostly be going to law school tho, i hope i dont regret it
I needed to hear this very much right now. I'm in the process of shifting from my pre-med program to go to a better suited course for law, and everything's been very scary and confusing these days. I don't know if this is a sign, but thanks for sharing your experience! :))
People be writing in the comments like admissions officers gonna see them “I’ve always been really good at...”
LMAO
Sometimes its useful (if someone does not have people in their life to share these moments with) to look to public forums for recognition and/or critiques on whether they may be suitable for the field. Even just getting ideas out may aid in introspection.
You crushed my dreams with honesty :)
Being honest with what you are and are not willing to do. However, you will be surprised what you will be willing to do if you decide its WORTH it. Do that analysis before giving up on your 'dreams.'

This video was depressing as hell but I still want to be a lawyer
U can. I almost went to law school, but after thorough investigation I didn't. I'm in a different field which is also stressful. I'm yet to find a professional career that's not stressful in the US, but it's not so in other countries where work life balance is appreciated. If u do go, consider going part-time, take the least number of courses possible at a time, so you can really enjoy it & actually learn. Don't do it the full time "American style" where they educate u wrapped in a "stress test" by throwing too much at u to see if u break." That's what full time law school is & for no sensible reason other than some people behind the scenes lower & raise barriers to keep numbers where they want it. I've lived in other countries where people school happily & happily work professional careers for many years & never get burned out because they have realistic expectations and work life balance, which doesn't exist in the US cos it's capitalistic...
This video actually furthered my desire to go to law school! I’m argumentative, I live for debate and picking a part arguments, Philosophy taught me I’m good at reading long and boring pieces of literature, and I love dealing with and talking to people. I’m constantly chasing things that keep me busy, something that gives me a “work high”, and I feel like right now this is what I need to be working towards. Thank you for this video!! Made me excited more than anything.
Same here....
Which schools are u considering?

I am a litigator in Florida - practicing law for almost 20 years. There is a lot of bad and a lot of good about becoming a lawyer. Thank you for sharing your insight, and you make a lot of good points. As far as helping people - there are many lawyers who have the internal fortitude to keep that as their priority throughout their career - no matter whether or not they will make money. Sure - there are many who get jaded or who forget the reason they went into law, those are the bad apples in the industry. But there are a lot (well, at least a few) really good ones out there. P.S. - I worked at law firms most of my career, and I almost never spent more than 40 hours in the office. Sure, there were projects on which I worked long hours, even overnight. But those were fun and interesting. Big law may require such long hours - but you can be smart and succeed in law without killing yourself.
good to know!
Good to hear! Am considering applying to law school but one thing I know is I can't sustain ongoing work of more than 50hr pw. I don't want big money, I want interesting work :)
That basket of apples is mostly rotten, but that’s what makes the rewarding part worth working for with fervor. ✅💪🏽👌
do you think 30 years old is too old to enter law school?

I like her honesty. Half of the people that go to law school should not. I meet a lot of lawyers that tell me if they
had a chance to do it again they would not go to law school.
I'm a lawyer (in-house) and you're soooo right in this video! I can't say that I would do it again and I definitely won't encourage my future kids or anyone else to do it.

Why are you guys so un-enthusiastic about your amazing careers makes me sad lol --- Im dying to go to LS no $$ :/// -- In House lawyer-ing doesnt seem like too bad of a gig (correct me iiw) Is it monotonous work? is that why you don't like it? your salaries alone are something to be grateful for (respectfully!) x
Then leave the job and let people that really wants to do it to make it. 🤦🏻♀️

Your suggestion has a few unstated premises. First, you assume that people not obsessed with practicing law are in some way blocking others from entering the field. Second, that there is a large pool of enthusiastic people who want to be lawyers. Third, that clients will be well served by the replacement of the former with the latter.
Read Harper's "The Lawyer Bubble," and confirm his sources, or provide some research to support your priors. I would love to believe your three assumptions, but I haven't seen reliable evidence supporting them.
I’m considering going to Law School. It’s been on my heart for quite some time now. I have a nonprofit organization that helps sex trafficked victims, and my hearts desire is to fight for these women in court. I have my bachelors but it’s no where near law. same haha!
A lot of writing, reading and research! and totally unlike the glamourized law in TV shows. I enjoy being a lawyer nonetheless!
Is the practice of law, anything like the LSAT? That is the stage I am currently at. Unfortunately, I've also been told by a lawyer that the best part of law is law school.
Get a mentor.
in my opinion it is not like the LSAT at all. i personally prefer working over law school because I don't like to study but I think some people prefer school than work life so it all depends.
what do you enjoy about it?
Do you have to be good at arguing? Like are you constantly in debates? I want to be an immigration lawyer but I feel like I’d cry arguing my way to keep families together lol.
LOOOL I love how real this is! Your intro was also amazing :)

ive been debating law school. I had good grades as an undergrad, but got a terrible LSAT score. Got denied to the schools I wanted to go, but was relieved at the same time because I dont think it's my passion in life to become a lawyer at the moment. Thinking about being a legal assistant for a while. Your video was very real, and I'm glad I found this!

@@yuhsiang123 What was your LSAT score? idk whats considered "terrible"
Totally agree, I studied for a lawyer and after 2 years as a legal assistant I decided to change my career. You don't just need to like to read and write, you need to like to read long and boring legal language and to be able keep concentration! That's really tough. I love reading and writing but legal reading and writing is a superpower not everyone has.. Overworking is typical in most places, so think 10 times before you go for it.

It sounds like you don't really enjoy your job. Have you considered making a career change? Since you're not "passionate" about the law, what are you really passionate about? I'm starting law school in the fall, and I feel like this entire video was about why NOT to go to law school.
you are right, I do not enjoy being a lawyer (but, I actually do enjoy my job because I have good coworkers and a great company I work for) which is why I felt compelled to make this video to make sure people know what they are getting into. to be honest, I'm not really passionate about anything other than food and youtube! so I guess that's why this has become my hobby :).
Okay thanks for the info. This channel is really helpful.
This has really discouraged me to go into law. I’m about to graduate, and now I don’t know what to do with my life.
@@BrittanyTran well goof thing you can share your experience and probably con't being a youtube blogger.

Honestly im so greatful that you were so honest with what its like to be a lawyer, you even gave life advice on what should determine what we persue. Amazing work
I've been contemplating being a lawyer ever since I graduated high school and now I'm in my junior year at Cal worrying even more! You're HONEST advice is REALLY helpful, thank you for taking the time to share your story!!
I love how honest and straight to the point you are. I'm a lawyer but I've never practised (forced into the degree by my dad--made a whole video about whether that entire experience was worth it), so it's really interesting to hear it from a perspective of an (honest) working lawyer. thanks for your candidness!
This was in my recomended, I'm not even in this field, but thank you so much for making this video and educating people. There's not enough brutally honest assessments out there!
As a high school senior I really wanted to pursue art as I was always good at it. My parents were on board and everything was alright. But lately in the back of my mind I’ve always wanted to be a lawyer but was never confident enough to try. I always thought I wasn’t good enough but I guess watching this video gave me the push. I plan on taking psychology and then moving on with law school.
why are we the same person
Hey Brittany! My name is Joy, and I'm a home schooled Junior in high school. I am researching what it is like to be a lawyer, and this video was so helpful! Thanks!
Thank you for your transparency! You just confirmed my motivation for law.
I love how honest you are. I am on the same page with you when you said that you weren't really passionate about becoming a lawyer.
loved this, it's very VERY realistic and I like how you also add at the end why its not for everyone or how maybe some people go into it with a very idealistic approach
So happy this video popped up on my feed. I am interested in being a contract lawyer for the federal gov. I already work in the acquisition field and I find that I have a passion for it. I'm still working on my undergrad studying public administration so I plan on staying in the public sector either way.
I want to become a lawyer, but I am still very young and still want to wait to see if it works out but so far I think it will.
Ok, let me stop you right there because you're contradicting yourself. From what I gather from this video, you became a lawyer purely based on your circumstances and going with the flow of what you were doing. It may have been chaotic when you think back on your life and the decisions you made to get you where you are but there was some order to that chaos. That in my mind is the closest anyone is going to get to passion before committing 100% of their time. Let me give you an example: there is absolutely no way you will ever be able to truly know what it's like to be a lawyer until you actually become one. You may have a very good idea when you're studying in law school, you may talk to a lot of lawyers and you may apply to a lot of law firms but you will never truly know what it feels like to become a lawyer until you actually become one. There is no passion, there is only a leap of faith you have to take where there is a 50/50 chance things work out as you find you'll grow into your career and if just one tiny thing doesn't completely check out, you bail and move on to the next thing. Also let's face it, the grass is always going to be greener on the other side and you're always going to hate the job you do. I had a friend who was ultra passionate about graphic design and his dream was always to be paid to be a graphic designer. Now that he finally has that job, he hates it and is actually thinking about going into programming. Don't fall into the trap of waiting for your dream job or finding your true passion. It doesn't exist! Just go with whatever feels right and keep an open mind as you take in as much as you can. You'll have it figured out eventually..
definitely, you won't know until you actually work as a lawyer. the point of my video was to make people think about why they are becoming a lawyer and the motivations behind it. I think a lot of people who are in high school or younger just want to be lawyers because they think they will make a lot of money and their parents tell them to. I wanted to be honest in telling them what to expect if they do become lawyers. Just so they think twice before committing to that career path :)
🙌🏼👏🙌🏼👏🙌🏼
Trust everything she said is both but the hard truth
Does your friend like programming? Im considering either law school or going back to school for programming
@@itsfuckinglauren depends what you like. I prefer programming though. It's more challenging, you get to work for more industries and the work environment and work life balance is a lot better. Another big advantage is that you will never experience more creative and professional freedom than working as a web developer. The only challenges are that technology is always changing and you continuously have to adapt yourself to it and your ability to manage people and communicate problems, solutions and expectations. But again, it's up to you m8.
I love this! You did a wonderful job telling your story, and helping those watching decide if it's really worth it.
Thank you Brittany for your honest account. I'm at a crossroads with my career right now and I am considering law school. Some of the things that you were talking about I didn't even consider. Great video!
Seriously hands down one of the most transparent videos I have seen. You are very down to earth probably one of the best traits you have as a lawyer I imagine. So glad I found your channel!! I just finished my sophomore year, majoring in HR and minoring in Business Law. I really like the legal side of my studies, and I have been thinking about going to law school specializing in either immigration and employment law. I love writing and reading, and generally, I work pretty well in a high-stress environment. The only thing that I’m really scared of is “losing a piece of my soul” (it sounds dramatic I know)... I am very passionate about social justice, and I would love to become an immigration lawyer. I’m just scared that I’m going to have to end up fighting for the “bad guys”.
it's possible, you just can't let things like debt or making more money get to you if you want to do things like social justice or an immigration lawyer.
Very engaging Brit. My friends are sort of pressuring me into going to law school because it's why I came to America but despite how disappointed I make them, I have to think about my future life.

Thanks Brittany for your honest and for share your REAL experience. A lot of people ( including me in the past ) have a wrong and unrealistic expectation about being a Lawyer in this case. Too many Tv shows and movies make us think wrong about that. The wrong "positive" thinking about I do what I love without thinking about pros and cons. In my opinion is cuz people does not like to think. It is a maturity problem.

Thank you for your honest insight on your journey in becoming a lawyer. I have a BFA in Graphic Design, an MBA and am seriously considering my JD in Commercial law. I am what you would call a creatively technical analytical person. I desire to open my own school and potentially a college. I love reading writing and researching. I have big ambitions and honestly I am nervous anxious excited and all to embark upon this journey. I am a perfectionist and knowing law school is expensive, I cannot afford to fail and that is where the bit of reluctance sets in. I have to have my application in by March 2021 and the next LSAT is April 10th or 11th, 2021. Mind you I know nothing about law,, I’m trying to figure out the best methods to study and prepare for LSATs and I’m definitely feeling the pressure right now and want to avoid rushing it. At any rate this comment is getting long and I feel like I’m ranting. Thanks again for your video content and all the best to everyone on their respective educational 🎓 and or professional endeavors. 🙂

Well, I’m actually switching my major from biology to political science in the hopes of going to law school. I’m seriously passionate about politics, and I love winning debates. Academically, the only thing I
i’m actually gifted in is digesting information that I read, and being able to use it(mostly history and politics). I think I actually need law to be happy. Im used to hard work already from prior military, and healthcare experience. I just want to be miserably happy if you know what I mean, and I think law will do that.
Very honest. Thanks for being real.

At 41 years old I'm contemplating a career change. I've always been very strong in academics (particularly science, business, and mathematics). I'm very intelligent, understand human psychology, and I have 20 years of experience in dealing with people in times of duress and high emotion. IF I choose to pursue a career in law, it will be with a 4 year degree in business, and my CPA designation. I feel too many people study "poor" undergrad programs. I enjoy your channel. I just found it today :)
Another thing to add is that the work schedule and work/life balance also varies greatly depending on your practice area. Some disciplines are more stressful and chaotic than others - e.g. litigation can be crazy, especially during trial, but intellectual property often has very regular schedules and tends to be more predictable. There are a lot of different kinds of law and a lot of different kinds of lawyers! I agree that research is key!
Thank you so much this video really helped. I'm actually on the fence about becoming an attorney. But you gave me a different insight. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Thank you so much for this informative video. All great questions one should ask before embarking on such a pursuit.
“I just wanna help people”
My response to anyone saying they want to do a particular field in order to help people is:
EVERYTHING HELPS PEOPLE!!! Lol
Great advice! I'm still thinking about it though...
understandable! this is just my perspective.
I am really thankful to you for this information. It has made more clear about the law profession and also how to make a right career decision
Great video! Thanks for your honesty! Very much appreciated!
I was trying to find answers of whether I really wanted to be a lawyer or not and after seeing this I am 300% more confident that I DO WANT to be a lawyer! Fuck yessss
Thanks you just made me cry during the entire video. I am a second year law student and I just realised how dull my future is going to be.
Very informative info! Thanks for laying out the hard facts.
Everyone has a different path and can adjust their career/life as it suits them. There are always different possibilities as a lawyer/doctor/engineer/etc to work and have a balanced life (or not, if you want you can work like crazy in nearly EVERY profession). If you believe that it can be done, then you are right. People, do not wait to see a video of someone that did it so you can go there and do it yourself. Just do it! Yeah, life is not easy, you are probably going to think that you should have done it differently at some point, but that shaped you and got you where you are. I know lawyers, doctors, engineers, dentists that are called to work in the middle of the night...because they chose that way. You can be a doctor and work in a office or a lab and never be "disturbed by patients" (and we NEED those kind of doctors). What I am trying to say is that you will always have tons of possibilities, and if you do not then just create them. PS.: I am not criticizing Brittany. I know people ask for this kind of video. I decided to watch it because I was curious about what she had to say about law school/career and I realize that it is pretty damn close to what I think about med school and it is probably the same for other careers if you take it seriously.
Love this Brit!!! I’m totally inspired! I should do one about hygiene. I’ve been contemplating for the past couple months if I should introduce my professional life. So far everyone has been encouraging me to do so. Love this!
yes, I think it would help a lot of people who are thinking about going into your profession as well as very interesting!
Very informative and inspiring! thank you for enlightening my clouded mind about law school and being lawyer
Thank you so much for this. I really appreciate your honesty and really practical advice.
