- I've seen a few Polar Express whistle compilation videos, but none of them got all of the whistles in the movie, so I decided to do it, and on Christmas Day no less. Hope y'all enjoy and Merry Christmas 2017.
I do not claim ownership of this footage or The Polar Express, nor was any money made off this video. It belongs to Warner Bros.
As a train lover, the whistle of the Polar Express is the most beautiful sound I've ever heard.
Yeah, I like 1225's real whistle, but I don't think it would've set well with most audiences.
Very true this movie is awesome
Are you my long lost brother?

@supercoolguy noob dude, you”re an idiot
Willy Wonka Studios, no you F$&@!$& dumbass! I just researched it & he’s right. Both the polar express & BTF 3 were directed by Robert Zemics & he used that same whistle in both movies.
0:56 well the Polar Express can DEFINITELY get up to 88mph no doubt about it!
Especially since the Polar express Has an actual flux capacitor.
What on earth are u talking about 1225 can go 100+ miles an hour it is a 2-8-4 Berkshire those things were built for speed
@@NOVARailandWeatherEnthusiast Know it all: *ACTUALLY* Its a Baldwin 2-8-4 S3 Class Steam Locomotive. Built in 1931 by the Baldwin locomotive Works, it weighs 456,000 pounds, and its top speed is 287 mph to be exact!
D .Dankey WOW UR DUMB DO U KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT HOW TRAINS WORK?! THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS AN AMERICAN TRAIN THAT CAN GO 287MPH!

0:13 Notice that in this scene, The Whistle you hear is the actual Whistle of Pere Marquette No. 1225, but was later switched with Sierra No. 3's Whistle
I think No.3's whistles suites the engine better,
That doesn’t sound like 1225’s real whistle
@@tonierbuckle0202 actually, it's a great northern 5 - chime
@@bm_m4in215 hes talking about the whistle at 0:13 when the PE first arrives. 1225's actual whistle is higher pitched and has more of grainy kind of sound to it. personally i think 1225's actual whistle is garbage. i think the one at the 13 mark _is_ 1225's whistle but run through a filter to not be so ear rapey. but it sounds VERY close to an SP 6 chime.
The steam radiator safety whistle sounds like the 4449's whistle.
Honestly I can't get enough of that whistle I can listen to it without getting tired
You mean to be honest?
such a beautiful whistle
Sure is.
Yep

That's actually a nice touch it adds a bit of a real life feel to the train

The whistle is pretty satisfying but yet sounds nice

It sounds more like a Doppler effect...
not a quilling whistle, just the doppler effect

This is why it's the G.O.A.T
1:20 Probably cleanest one.
That whistle is from the train from back to the future part lll
Yep. Which oddly enough was directed by the same guy, Robert Zemeckis.
AND THE WHISTLE IS ACTUALLY FROM THE SIERRA #3 *DEEP inhale* 🧠💥
If you watch the scene where the pin bounces around in the cabin there is an actual flux capacitor right when the pin hits the cap
And notice that both the Hero Boy and Doc Brown say that they've always wanted to blow a whistle.

1:18 AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAHHHAHAHAHHAHAHA i dont remember humans being whistles
Me niether! 😂
in the movie story you can tell the whole exspress train isvery nostalgic and the whole train has that 1930s style to it even the whistle makes think of riding on it on Christmas Eve in the middle of nowhere hearing the whistle the whistle sounds 1930s style to I mean look at the back of the observation car it looks 1930s all over it and that's what I love the most about the polar exspress
Pere Marquette was actually built by the Lima locomotive works back in 1941
@@alvit123 yeah but is actually mostly resembles an Erie Railroad S3 class Berkshire type steam locomotives that were indeed built in the early 1930’s.
The old boy still got it!
Sierra railway #3 provided the glorious whistle for the engine. While the engine, tender included is based directly on the Pere Marquette which at least to me looks like a Hudson. My question is what combination of chimes did they have to use to make such a iconic whistle?!? Seriously its like the steam engine version of "MOVE BITCH!"
Lost Ones soul who knows, all I know is someday I need to hear that whistle in person. Oh and 1225 is a Berkshire. 2-8-4
Noah Garay same.
I'm pretty sure it's a lima chime 5 (or great northen 5) with sierra no 3.

Mine's Thomas' whistle.
To be honest, this is the best whistle in the world.

At 1:03 the polar express does a crossing signal just like a real steam locomotive would and I just love it
That is her signal that means she's coming into a tunnel (like Flat-Top Tunnel)
0:38 is more of a crossing signal
@@adventuresofamtrakcascades301no, when a steam locomotive comes to a crossing, they blow two long whistles one short whistle and one long whistle

Fun fact:
The Polar Express' whistle is from the locomotice Sierra #3, wich, actually appeared in another movie, Back To The Future 3
Reference:
when Hero Boy (yes, that's his name) blew the engine's whistle, he said "I always wanted to do that!!" wich Doc from BTTF 3 also said when they robbed the Sierra #3
Let’s not forget that the emergency brake scene in this movie directly parallels the emergency brake scene from back to the future part 3!
Also you meant they are borrowing the Central Pacific 131/Sierra Railway #3 to be honest.

The whistle at 0:13 is not Sierra 3. Higher pitch. I think I read somewhere that it was GN 2584’s whistle but I’ve found next to nothing about it.
I know I'm late, but damn that horn is badass
Whistle*
Let’s not say anything like that. Let’s say it’s the goodess whistle.
The first whistle sounds amazing!
I’ve heard that they used a Great Northern 5-chime whistle for the movie.
Actually, it's more like a Lima 5 chime, like on Sierra Railway 3.
From the research I've done, the whistle is actually from Sierra Railway No. 3. If you listen to No.3's whistle, it is exactly the same as the one in the movie. Have a listen: ruclips.net/video/Pr5kOCpyADA/видео.html
Really Its from McCloud River 25 those are rumors that have been spreading around for some time now
Hmmm, that's interesting, because the whistle of No.3 sounds far more like the one from the movie. I've listened to both whistles, and not only is No.3's the same pitch, but it's also the same timbre. I could be 100% wrong, but it just sounded that way to me. Also, Sierra Railway No.3 was featured in the film Back to the Future III, which like The Polar Express was also directed by Robert Zemeckis. So it makes sense that he would use the same whistle in both of his films, as he already had the contacts from Sierra Railways and it's far easier to edit the sounds of something he already had on file. Why they didn't just end up using Pere Marquette 1225's actual whistle is anyone's guess. I mean, they modeled the Polar Express around that Locomotive, but that's just my thoughts. Whichever whistle it is though, the one I hear in the movie is pure magic.
Trainguy1225 Railfan Productions - Seriously? You're basing this off of rumors, which means they haven't yet been proven true or false? That is just pathetic. Not to mention rather baseless.
18 times i heard the whistle blow in this video!

# best whistle in history
It’s the same whistle as the train in back to the future

One of the most memorable Christmas Steam Whisles
Hey 👋 may I use this sound effect for my RUclips videos? I wanted to ask your permission before I use this sound effects. I hope that is okay with you.
sounds like a whistle that you would expect the new York central to use on their express trains like for example the 20th century limited
Nope. NYC 5 chimes were a little higher than that, this is the whistle you'd hear on Sierra 3, which starred in another Robert Zemmeckis movie, oddly enough.
Sounds like a great northern 5 chime
I first saw this movie in theaters at the age of seven back in 2004. I remember it well. One of the best holiday films I had ever seen on the big screen, other than Elf and The Grinch.

0:23 how did that thing end up in his pocket magically!?
Cause it’s a god damn movie...
The Polar Express is a magical train, so yes this is also a magical ticket.
The whole point is that is was magically
Fun fact that will change how you look at this movie, inside the cab in one scene, you can see the Flux capacitor from back to the future, and one quote is from back to the future 3, just slightly altered. Here's the lines side by side. In BTTF3: " I've wanted to do that my whole life". And in The Polar Express: " I've always wanted to do that my whole life". The only difference is that The polar express adds the word ALWAYS, that's it. Plus the Flux capacitor is extremely hard to spot.
Its on the ice when the driver coughs up the pin
I just noticed that they are not altered, my bad
There’s a theory that the two movies exist in the same universe; that Doc Brown’s time traveling engine was a rough prototype for what the PE became
The basis of The Polar Express is the Pere Marquette 1225
Ever since I was a little boy and i would watch the polar Express i would listen to the whistle every time
0:12 that steam thing always scared me when I was young, idk why
1:17, so has Dr. Brown from Back to the Future 3
Same director did both movies, after all 😁 and there’s a flux capacitor above the firebox in the engine.
There’s even an entire theory on Reddit dedicated to how the BTF and Polar Express universes are one in the same, how Doc Brown’s train from the end of the 3rd was a rough prototype for what the Polar Express became.
1:27 all board!
Fun fact the "steam whistle" used in the polar express is based on the steam whistle from Sierra railways no.3 whistle. In reality Pere Marquette 1225 has a Nathan 6 chime steam whistle also Pere Marquette has two ways For Her Engineer to blow the steam whistle. She tipically has a "whistle pull cord" and a "whistle valve" She also has a whistle pull cord on the Fireman's side She also has an "air ringer" on the Engineer's side.
Edit I also realized that the Engineer broke a few rules about whistle signals. at the first scene the Engineer did a "proceeding" whistle signal not the "stop" whistle signal and then the Engineer again failed to preform a "stop" whistle signal and then He randomly decides to preform the "stop" whistle signal when the train arrives at the north pole

US SUGAR 148 wear a CB&Q 5 chime that sounds the same as you hear in the movie
It’s Sierra Railway 3, besides, 148 wasn’t operational until 2020
Is it unknown, if they kept the sound recordings of PM 1225 for the film (like the puffing, the rolling stock sounds, etc.), or if it was something else they did with the sound recordings? Just a question I wanted to ask.
00:45 is the best to me.

This movie was such a damn fine Christmas movie, everyone goes on about the Grinch but what about this???
Polar Express might have either a Great Northern 5 chime, or a Lima 5 chime. It's hard to tell the differences if how both sound.
i think it’s a sound effect made by the film crew that kinda uses Sierra 3’s Lima 5 Chime as a base/inspiration. best explination i could come up with. :I
The whistle sounds like a ghost train whistle
0:42 if you have your volume up it's loud
