Ear piercing is not just for girls but boys too especially if you belong to Brahmin family, Other rituals include a naming ceremony (Namakarna),
the Nishkarmana (the child's first trip out) and
the Annaprasana, (the child's first taste of solid food).
Aksharabhyasa (first education in Writing, like A.B.C etc)
    The ear-piercing ceremony (Karnavedha) and
first haircut total shave of yhe head (Mundan) where baby gives their hair as a offering in a temple ceremonies are also considered highly significant,
at the age of first menstruation for girls there is Saree functions and
for Boys at age of puberty around 11-14 there's a Dhothi ceremony atleast i have seen in Telugu speaking states there are a lot more ceremonies even after death.

One leg should be kept in forward position while wearing lungi which gives flexibility while walking
