[Quick Info]
The (G) Line, known as the Brooklyn-Queens Crosstown Local, runs from Court Square Station in Long Island City, Queens to Church Avenue Station in Kensington, Brooklyn. The line, denoted by a light green (G), is the ONLY line in the subway, that's not a shuttle line, that does NOT enter Manhattan
The interesting this about this line is that, at all times (unless certain service changes occurs), trains are only 300 feet long and runs OPTO (One Person Train Operation) on weekends.
The equipment the line uses currently are Westinghouse R68s and Kawasaki R68As and the line is based out of Coney Island Yard.

Massive update: the R46s and R68/As on the G are being swapped out for R160s in anticipation for Culver Line CBTC.
Now, the 1, 3, B, D and all shuttles are the only subway lines that haven't been hit with the tech trains.
That's sadly gonna end in less than 10 years.
@@Mr.MemesmithNQW
@@r62aguy85 No. Those lines don't have tech trains anymore, but they did have them.
This rule also applies to the 6.
The (G) used R32 cars (pre overhaul) in sets of 8 back in the 80s, later switched to R46 cars in sets of 6 (partially at the expense of the (E), which got completely downgraded when Jamaica Yard overhauled their equipment).
The first subway train I ever set foot in was the (G). I still remember those blue doors.
The (G) is getting R160s after all. BTW 14:13 with the (G) moving back to Jamaica Yard let’s hope it goes to 71st Ave.
The longer length will come when canarsie tube gets closed for a year. the G will get full length R179s inbetween the 4 car R68s and the headways would become one train every ten minutes and every twenty the R179 full length will come in

Am I the only one who wants R42s on the G? No?
Arif Akyuz they were in 2009. that shit was fabulous
Arif Akyuz they're getting scrapped soon, so that is unlikely to happen.
Umm Coney Island yard doesn’t accept R42s
I would like to see that. They are not really popular cars anyways (unfortunately), might as well put it on a not really popular (unfortunately) line :D
They need them especially because of the overcrowding on the G
Actually, the part from Bergen to Church Avenue, it was the South Brooklyn Line, since the neighborhoods it served were once southern part of the then-city of Brooklyn. The section from Ditmas to Coney Island is the BMT Culver Line. Since the ramp was built in 1954 connecting the two sections, the entire line is known as the IND Culver Line, with the viaduct in Gowanus called the Culver Line. The crosstown Line, though connecting at Bergen Street, is independent of the South Brooklyn Line since it opened later than the S Brooklyn Line (the SB line opened in 1933, while the Crosstown line opened in 1937).
I believe the reason why the (G) is small is because its yards [Coney Island and Jamaica Yards] are extremely far away from the Crosstown Line. It has to go through the Culver Line/QBL just to start service. If the trains are too long, that could eat up capacity of revenue service.
In my opinion, here is what needs to be done:
- Make Church Avenue Yard a full fledged yard: This is for a simple reason, it allows the (G) trains to be independent from other trains in QBL, allowing (G) trains to run at least 8-car trains.
- Reconfigure the service patterns at QBL: Right now, it is kind of a mess. While there is some partial deinterlining at QBL with the F/M swap, it is still a capacity killer considering that 53rd Street is a rather busy part of QBL, while 63rd Street becomes empty. Plus, it does not help that the (R) reverse-branches with QBL.
For the second point, here is how I would reconfigure QBL:
- Make 8th Avenue service be QBL Express and 6th Avenue service be QBL Local till 36th Street with new platforms along Northern Boulevard at the 63rd Street Line: This provides a clean separation between the 6th Avenue and 8th Avenue services. Have the (C) reroute to QBL with the (E) [making the (A) the CPW/8th Ave Local]. The (C) goes to Jamaica Center, while the (E) goes to 179th Street. F/M will go to 179th Street as well.
- Remove the (R) entirely and have the (W) replace the (R) in Brooklyn: This removes the reverse-branching within the Broadway Local, Astoria, and QBL Local. The (W) should have a yard in Astoria, as much as NIMBYs hate it.
- Have the (G) extended to Queens Plaza as its new north terminal: With Broadway out of QBL and 6th Avenue being separate from Queens Plaza at QBL, this leaves a potential cross-platform transfer available for the (G). Have either tail tracks northeast of Queens Plaza, or just have an interlocking switch between Queens Plaza and Court Square, to facilitate the new terminal.
I remember taking the G train back in 1989 and 1990 where it goes with the F train. Carroll St. is still about three blocks where we used to live. I still remember the Crosstown Viaduct where I saw the view of Downtown Brooklyn, Lower Manhattan, the Gowanus Expressway, Carroll Gardens, and Red Hook.
Smith-9Th Sts is now the Highest Station in the World
Yep! It’s also a place for watching views of Lower Manhattan, Downtown, Red Hook and the Gowanus Expressway, and it’s on the Gowanus Canal. Every 4th of July, they had fireworks where you can view from the Smith-9th St. Station including most of neighborhood who set them off, and the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks in Lower Manhattan.
In case you missed this past Saturday, fireworks were set off during the 4th of July from Smith-9th Streets. You can see views of Park Slope, Prospect Park, Carroll Gardens, Red Hook, Sunset Park, Cobble Hill, Brooklyn Heights, and Downtown Brooklyn, except Lower Manhattan. July 4th was nothing but fireworks, and they were everywhere.
My home I grew up in Brooklyn is about few blocks between two 2 G line stations.
3:08 I agree, like it should be 8 to 10 cars that way the trains aren't so crowded.
I mean now it is w/ ntt
This was actually a very interesting video and had solid editing
R46 are back with the G line
why the G never got the R32's as an eight-car train [just in case of the cararsie tube construction work starts 2019] in the first place & extended to 71st-Continental on late nights & weekends?
ThePandaTrain7 No room on Queens Blvd AT ALL due to construction.
On the subject on the Crosstown/Culver Viaduct, I would just call it the South Brooklyn Viaduct, named after the original name of the line.
Bergen street was the station man!
3:57 LMAOO!!!
As of now R46’s are back on the G.
Now, the G Is full of R160's.
Actually, the segment of the G line that accompanies the F is known as the IND South Brooklyn Line.
The g train has its history. Also did you know that g train used to stop at forest hills 71 ave along with the R and V and E and F and M trains? (Ithink the M train)
It was on Queens Blvd with the E F R and V trains, the M ended up replacing the V and they discontinued G service to Forest Hills.
@@matthewhernandez8342 problem is Queens Blvd local riders want to go to Manhattan. In the future, the M will be the main Queens Blvd. local, with the R being the weekday supplemental service. There's no room for the G.
THE 68s ARE GETTING UPGRADED
we need the G train back at Forest Hills-71 on weekends and nights
I agree. It should be extended to Forest hills from 10pm - 5am on weekdays and all day Saturdays and Sundays to Forest Hills.
@@ariesmichaelsayan4013 because the m isn’t there and five cars is enough to help the e train on the local tracks
The MTA has plans to extend a few G trains to 18th Av to prevent congestion at Church Av
No extended the f express to kings highway and they terminal there
0:45 what's the music called
What’s the song called
The G should go to 71/Continental again.
Blake McNamara This can be done, but it has to be done correctly. To do this only requires only an extension of the Archer Avenue Line and the Hillside Avenue Subway. Then from here, the E and new K would be on the express tracks and the F and M be on the local tracks. Past Briarwood, the E and F would be on the Archer Avenue Line and the K and M be on the Hillside Avenue Subway, with the K going farther east. The G can then be extended from Court Sq to 179th Street to provide direct access between local stations and Queens Plaza. All 5 lines would operate at 12 trains per hour.
What's next? Creating something new and dropping the line altogether?
Can you make a T train review
To be Honest I always thought that junis street was the tallest...
2:53 Correction:
The (G) from Court Sq to Hoyt-Schermerhorn is Crosstown. The (F) from Jay St to Coney Island is Culver.
It isn't the Culver until south of Church Avenue. North of there, it's the IND Smith Street line.
3:57 🤣
The G in the MTA is like Staten island to NYC it doesn't matter and people don't remember.
Oof 100
It’s true any train that doesn’t go to Manhattan is nearly useless tbh lol
KnucklesWTD The G is an extremely essential link for the people of Kensington, Brooklyn. If it was removed, subway service would be fucked up for years on end.
Coney island bound G trains are local bound G trains R68 might be express anyway Is that knuckles in the red I dont know his name because I never meet him before!
Do JFK depot
There putting R160s on the G
The G line should go back to its original terminal 71st Forest Hills at 8:30pm.
Why do that when there is literally zero demand for this (all Queens Blvd traffic is more for Manhattan)?
Instead, the G would actually be better off going to Astoria via 31st Street (or 21st Street as some folks prefer). It would be a better use of funds to do that than permanently throttle capacity to Manhattan on the Queens Blvd Line.
@@TheRailLeaguer Yeah or it could go to the West End Line with the D train
@@jred9864 Service in Brooklyn is already supplementing the F train, and the D doesn't really need a supplement.
@@TheRailLeaguer Huh ok
Question:
Why is the C too strong
And the E Satan
?
He loves the C train and hates the E train
The W still here it's alive again
At the time the W wasn’t here

@@OrangeDaFruit there was a old (G) train review that’s what he is talking about the old (G) review came out in 2015
2:50 they really don’t like the R160 E
1:12
Well, R46s Ran on the G along with the R32s and R42s
The G train now has the R160's type! And the R160's only have 5 cars unless the F train is relocated to Euclid Avenue and the R160's type G train has 10 cars!
G train to Rockaway Park B 116 ST MTA send the G Train to Rockaway Park B 116 St by using the old woodhaven line please
Flutershy Fluters The Rockaway Line would be better off connecting to a Queens Bypass and going straight to Manhattan.
The ‘G’ sure is the original ‘G’angsta!
5:38 😂😂😂
sometimes the G goes to coney island via the F
Memes Lol Those Gs to Coney Island was to replace F service, which went to Euclid Avenue to replace C service.
