Guitar Center used has really good deals, I got a JCM 900 High Gain Dual Reverb 50w for $500 and it works. Also their drum department has really good prices as well. The downside is their packing is terrible, mine came in a huge box with zero packing material at all just the amp in a big box

Guitar Center seems to be the lesser of two evils when it comes to buying gear. I wish there was a platform that sold used gear that had better customer service than them or Reverb. Congrats on 1K!

Thanks! And yes I agree. Honestly the best transactions I've had have been on web forums person to person, but occasionally there is a horror story of a scam or someone shipping something uninsured and UPS damages it. As long as the individual you are buying from cares about the item they are sending you, usually it's all good. I will say I also have not had any bad experiences on Reverb. Once I had an amp severely damaged and Reverb stepped up with a partial refund, I contacted Mesa to get an estimate on the repair and responded back with that quote and they raised their refund to match it with no issues - I'd say that's pretty reasonable these days. Most reverb transactions I have go well because they are also individual sellers or small music stores and they care a little bit more and even just some minimal effort goes a long way.

@@totallyradguitars959 I’ve had the same experiences. Nothing but good transactions with individual sellers on Reverb, but I just had my first bad experience with a “Hardware” store on there. Some brick and mortar store selling stuff from China and what ended up showing up wasn’t even what I ordered.

I just bought a "Vintage" tagged JCM 900 last week for $999.00, lol - it needs some work. GC has a excellent return policy as well - this alone is why I wouldn't hesitate to buy anything at GC.
I like the channel bro - you and I have similar taste in gear.

Nice! I saw that one - I'd really like to trade around my JCM900 Mk III combo for the head version and there is one listed right now for 1099. That's not unreasonable as long as it's not damaged - I'm okay doing a couple of minor repairs (solder touch up, foot switches, etc) but it's seemingly pretty often they just show up completely trashed, which is a shame. Thank goodness for the return policy!

Yeah I had an EVH LBX Head from them for a good price that had one of the tubes broken when it got here so I had to send it back. I ended up getting a different amp that I love but was still a bit disappointed
Congratulations on 1k subscribers, love the amount of information you always give with gear reviews :)

Thanks! I do know sometimes if you call the store it came from they can send you replacement parts like tubes or cables - or sometimes a discount - just depends on the store a lot.

One thing that happened to me a few times is the item pictured is not actually what they have. Example about 2 years ago I purchased a JCM 800 and the one pictured was a 2203 - the one that arrived was 2210. When I returned it they actually gave me a hard time about the shipping charge but finally agreed as one time courtesy lol ... but I do usually try and find some good deals you never know what you will find.

    • @totallyradguitars959
      @totallyradguitars959  2 года назад

That exact thing happened to me - I ordered a 2203 and a 2210 came. I personally love the 2210 (I had a 2205 already) so I kept it - but only because they gave me a fair discount for the mistake.

I have been able to work on my IVB’s, but this particular IVA just has too much wrong with it for the price I paid. If I’d gotten it super cheap for parts I’d fix it up but it was way too expensive to need repairs already

Yeah I have complaints but they are still my primary source of used gear. If they ever get rid of the return policy or if the store near me closed for some reason though, that’d be the end of it

I would've stopped buying there long ago if not for that return policy. Someone at GC corporate probably watches my order history thinking "wow this guy returns a lot of stuff" but hey, if it showed up in the described condition it wouldn't be a problem. In fact, I received a Bogner Goldfinger and a Bogner Twin Jet *TODAY* and both of them were completely damaged on arrived, bad packaging, broken tubes in the Twin Jet, channel 1 doesn't work at all, and broken footswitch and channel switching issues on the GF. Guess I'll add them to the truckload of returns I'm doing this week.... it's embarassing at this point.

You know I had an order canceled on me because they listed the wrong item, It was an expensive bass amp for dirt cheap so i ordered it. I get a phone call from a number I didn't recognize so i didn't answer. I got a voice mail saying "hey this is joe blow from Guitar Center and I'm calling because unfortunately we are going to have to cancel your order because we listed the wrong item". FAKE NEWS!

    • @totallyradguitars959

That happened to me not long ago on a Fender Super Sonic 100 head. Super super nice, priced at $499. What a deal!..... until it got cancelled.
That said I can't blame them, if I listed something without a zero or way under I probably would take it down, but I would at least contact the buyer and be honest about it and maybe make a compromise deal. Getting cancelled with nothing but the automated email is insulting.

I bought a Marshall JCM 900 SL-X 2500 a year and a half ago. I had it shipped to my nearest G.C. Anyway opened the box noticed it had NO TOLEX! What? Yep just wood but a really good black finish on it. I was pissed to say the least. the manager said he would give me $100 off , no way. but i decieded to play it and sounded great. I went to my guitar tech left the amp at the store I asked what cost me to re tolex i went back to the store manager told me to call the store shipped from I told me i was mad no tolex he asked me cost to re tolex it I told him $250. They refunded me the $250. So i took it home then volume got low and loud over and over . Took to my amp tech said amp was modded badly and needed work. He said he could do minor repair or the major repair. I could have returned it but opted to do the full repair and have NO regrets. The amp is amazing and i never re tolexed it cause it looks good the way it is. but yea , no Tolex & modded?

Buying from GC is always a crapshoot, but sometimes you do end up with cool stuff and they usually will work with you on the price if something is wrong, so I'll give them credit for that. The main thing I think is people trade in stuff that is too junked to sell privately there, and GC just takes it in without doing anything to check on it really. As annoying as that is, I've been able to get my hands on a lot of gear that I otherwise never wouldn't been able to afford alone, it just means you might have to deal with some cosmetic issues or repair/clean/fix stuff yourself (or pay for a 3rd party repair). I love the 900 SLX myself btw, one of my favorite amps.
