Really excellent playing - musical - beautiful sound, fabulous phrasing and dynamic contrasts and on the Bassett Clarinet - without a spike or a sling - you must be very strong and looked totally relaxed - amazing - congratulations, you must be very proud of this terrific performance ! I note that three people did not like this performance - that is unbelievable maybe they are jealous ! I think this is one of the best performances I have ever heard. I began learning it aged nine. I first played this piece from memory( when I was aged eleven ) to Sir Colin Davis and the late great John McCaw when I was invited to play with the London Philharmonic in 1964 so I think I have earned the right to express this opinion.

I agree with Leslie Craven about the masterly performance, and with Joe Hsu about the timbre: a praiseworthily even, vibrant tone all the way through the basset's range, with convincingly apt tonguing, and soft-tonguing. Am I right in thinking that Wonkak Kim plays this piece on an Anton Stadler model of instrument? I would add that the orchestra provides magnificent support to the soloist, with crystal-clear synchrony, genuinely dialoguing with him.

Lovely playing - both on the basset clarinet & by the orchestra. A world favourite piece & this shows why.

It's a nice surprise to find this live recording of K622 on a Basset Clarinet. Mr. Kim you did a fine job, your timber sounds full, round and warm. I am sure Mozart would have been very pleased.

The adagio is so beautiful that I struggle to find the words to describe it.. The angels play Mozart for God. For one another they play the Clarinet Concerto in A major. The ear hears a reflection of beauty, sensitivity and deep love. Thank you Mr Kim for seven sublime minutes in the midst of thirty two of an excellent performance.

In my high school band first experienced the beauty of clarinet performance and never forgot it..an excellent solo and outstandung orchestra support indeed..

Is that clarinet made of milk and honey? That was some seamless playing! The orchestra was great too, but also give props to memorizing this song. A very fun piece to play.

Kim's playing is certainly admirable: his articulation and tone are flawless, and he adds some well-placed embellishments to boot. In addition, I wish that the basset clarinet were used for all performances of this work, since it seems to play out more naturally on this instrument. (Indeed, didn't Mozart compose the solo part for the basset horn?) HOWEVER, as too often occurs in the interpretation of Mozart, much of the subtlety of this masterpiece of masterpieces is glossed over by a fast tempo, as occurred during the performances of the composer's last three symphonies during the Mostly Mozart Festival ten years ago. This conductor, too, knows nothing of Mozart. I would recommend Karl Bohm's interpretation with the Vienna Philharmonic, or Sir Collin Davis' with the London Symphony Orchestra and Jack Brymer.
