Brian, I came just to check out the plane and I ended up with a well of information that will save me from wrecking a few planes. . Luckily I dont have to fly with an eagle killing zone. I would not last two minutes in your field. You are a professional flyer hands down. Camera crew is the secret sauce to enjoying the videos without a headache.

Thanks! We still need to revisit this beauty! Love this 80mm F-16 platform, and I feel like we could squeeze a lot more out of her now, since we've learned a lot over the last few years, especially around the area of AS3X and SAFE.
Thanks BRIAN,,,, your super,,, in trouble shooting also,,, I did NOT expect them to put extra connectors in that were between other connectors,,, ie the wing,,,, I rather have to connect a connector myself to a wing, then just slide it in, then have ANOTHER one hidden in the wing, as this one did,,, I thank you for showing me how these are assembled, AND that a tester can show current draw under load on a servo tester,,, I shall buy a new one also,,,, Well, the LESS connections, things in the control circuits the BETTER I SAY!!!! Less to go WRONG, FAIL!!!!! Oh, that the misses, camera crew, she is great,,,,
And I'm gonna have to pick up one of these. This is the exact airforce jet I got to ride in with a airforce Thunderbird pilot who needed to go up and get his hours in when I was 14. This plane looks like a really good adrenaline rush wide open crazzy fast adrenaline flying
Excellent video. Great servoectomy Dr. Phillips. Man I’m glad that turned out like it did. Could have been disastrous. Now we will need a second thought flight video after that repair. Well done guys. Sweet jet.
Oh man what a beautiful jet!! And I hear ya on setting the AS3X gains! It’s tough finding the right gain number, but great video! I think watching your landings is awesome, because you talk through it and give great pointers on what the jet or plane does as your coming in to land. So keep doing the landings :)
I have played around with the gains isolating each axis. As a start change the yaw gain to the same as roll. A high gain on yaw axis can cause the waggle. The pitch axis seems to be the least sensitive. Great trouble shooting
Well done finding the issue. I appreciate thatvlevel of detail in your videos. I think that my eyes would dictate the other color scheme which this video helped me confirm. Thank you for that.
Awesome educational video Brian. You taught us a lot today! Glad you caught that loose connector and avoided possible trouble. I'm going to skip the tailerons. I think flaperons will do well. Looking forward to the next videos, maybe this repair will fix the wobble.
Great video! The scheme drew me to it, so I don't want missiles. I have the 70mm and love it, in fact I'm on my 3rd one 🤣. When I saw the grey version I said if they ever did it in the Thunderbird scheme, I'd have to get it. Well, I ordered it last night, then found your videos. I have the 70mm Thunderbird with no flaps. It lands easily in 1/2 of our 400' runway using a nose up landing. So I thought I would like a larger version. But after watching this video I am not so sure. From what I can see this 80mm does not have 'normal' flaps and it would need flaperons and / or reverse thrust in order to land on 400'. Do you think the "Camera crew" would approve of a carrier style catapult/landing platform setup off of the back deck? Talk about a TopGun experience 😂 It'd be like a fixed aircraft carrier that launches into the "bowl". Without hoofing it out to the road and watching for cars etc. I mean, it's not like you don't have the jet stock to justify something as cool as that 👍
why not just use tailerons , forget the flaperons that way you keep the amount of elevator movement you like, just use flaps but perhaps only half flaps on landing may be enough ? 5000mah seems the way to go. Gyro on tailerons and rudder ? Will the main wing not be more stable on landing if you do not have flaperons? or was it just dancing around because of the duff wing servo connection.? @@Ziet1 I'm not sure Brian will review it as its a pretty old jet now. I'd have thought he'd have already done it by now. U should maiden it soon man. If uv flown the Futura its pretty much the same as that. Just more scale looking.
Me too. I need to get some details sorted before I'll feel comfortable with it. Heck, I can hardly high alpha my 70mm!!!! It's a pilot skill and real-estate thing too ;)
The 70mm Habu is probably a good bet and as you progress it’s still a blast with a few light mods like carving out some foam for elevator travel and adjusting the linkages I get mine to do rolling harriers with the gear off on the stock power set up running 6s 3300 all the way back. I upgraded the edf to an x fly galaxy and it is even more fun over 1 to 1 thrust to weight. Flys like a trainer hard to stall easy to land.
I had it paused and I hit play again and it was right at the beginning of you saying I'm gonna get you addicted and my wife looked at me and listened for the whole 12 seconds of you saying the addicted to planes part she thought you meant drugs LMAO
Haha, this plane is going to Brian Phillips so let's leave this connector loose and see if he crashes or fixes it. For $600 I expect more, and not just because of the loose connector.
@@joshuaburgess4730 But the question is: do I have an 8 channel transmitter? (No) I dunno, I have the 70mm Thunderbird, and I like the scheme, so an 80mm scale Thunderbird would be cool, but ugh, I like the look of the ordinance and the grey one!

Too bad they didn't make it with a slightly larger wingspan. The takeoff and landings would be shorter. They should have moved the landing gear out more to make it more stable during ground roll.
I have the 70mm and don’t fly it because I can’t see it. This is the 80mm repopped as a Thunderbird. I LOVE the F-16 but I’ll pass. There are many Motion RC/Freewing/Flightline planes I’d rather have. Bitco Hobby has some awesome planes too I’d rather have first
We agree this tactic would work, but we want to do right by our audience, and so much of them ask for the full length. I think if we did short "entertainment" style videos, we'd just be copying what Horizon Hobby does - not that their stuff isn't good - IT IS - but we want to show when their planes DON'T work good too ;) I want to start making some shorter content, but I would have to do voice overs for the content to make it any good, since I'm always blathering about things through the whole thing. I know some find it super annoying, but others really enjoy and need the support when they're newer pilots. It's hard to get help when you're new.

Get it. It's awesome. One of the best thrust to weight jets out there plus its quite cheap for an 80mm and has all the LED, decent gear, flaps etc
@@M4rkmcc21 have already but have yet to fly it.
@@Ziet1 I'm not sure Brian will review it as its a pretty old jet now. I'd have thought he'd have already done it by now. U should maiden it soon man. If uv flown the Futura its pretty much the same as that. Just more scale looking.
I think I could see it, don't know if I could control it lol
Why wouldn’t you put the AS3X gains onto a knob so you can adjust in flight to get rid of the oscillation?
Use the afterburner
I don't have enough channels as configured ;(
Why?? I have the old 80mm in the box still. lol.
Great flying Brian. That's a beautiful jet! Would love to see you do the high alpha with that thing.
Me too. I need to get some details sorted before I'll feel comfortable with it. Heck, I can hardly high alpha my 70mm!!!! It's a pilot skill and real-estate thing too ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC you could do it. You're a great pilot!!
This looks amazing but I'm upgrading from high wing prop plane . Ready for a jet , this or the Habu 3s ?
Did u actually put this in the same basket as a habu 3s?! 😆
You're a long way from an F16 dude...
Flys like a trainer hard to stall easy to land.
happy new year, another great review . I flew mine four or five times now and i find it to be lacking top speed in my opinion is under powered.
Thanks for the info Brian. All the issues you had has made my mind not to get this plane.
Its a bad habit that all you yt pilots mean: "what 100% travel? my pro pilot skills need 5000% travel"
I don’t know what to do?? I want to get the grey one, but this is a THUNDERBIRD?? Ughh, life is full of hard decisions!
This has a 8 channel receiver
@@joshuaburgess4730 But the question is: do I have an 8 channel transmitter? (No) I dunno, I have the 70mm Thunderbird, and I like the scheme, so an 80mm scale Thunderbird would be cool, but ugh, I like the look of the ordinance and the grey one!
@@AerospaceMatt I just bought the grey one last month then they do this to me!? ( my 80mm thunderbird be here Monday hahaha) I have a nx10 so that's why I'm getting it.
@@joshuaburgess4730 I need to get an NX10 one of these days.
@@AerospaceMatt horizonhobby has the easy pay option. Might help in getting one. I'm a elite member with horizonhobby so I can get a agent directly Monday thru Friday and free shipping on anything. Also 1000$ credit limit on easy pay instead of the 500$. ( yeah it stays maxed out almost)
Beautiful Jet,But Doesn't look like an AMA flying field..🤣
Too bad they didn't make it with a slightly larger wingspan. The takeoff and landings would be shorter. They should have moved the landing gear out more to make it more stable during ground roll.
Its scale and would look funny with larger wings and wider gear. Get a sport jet
I have the 70mm and don’t fly it because I can’t see it. This is the 80mm repopped as a Thunderbird. I LOVE the F-16 but I’ll pass. There are many Motion RC/Freewing/Flightline planes I’d rather have. Bitco Hobby has some awesome planes too I’d rather have first
So why waste ur time and watch the vid if u want a freewing plane?
@@M4rkmcc21 because nunya 😂🖕
Beautiful jet ,but way too fast for me 🥺👍
👍
Shame that you had to make mods out of the box. Not a cheap plane either
Let me guess they want 600$ for it
Too fast & squirrely for me...definitely not my cup of tea.
Make shorter videos so your views shoot up!youtube pumps shorter vids more
We agree this tactic would work, but we want to do right by our audience, and so much of them ask for the full length.
I think if we did short "entertainment" style videos, we'd just be copying what Horizon Hobby does - not that their stuff isn't good - IT IS - but we want to show when their planes DON'T work good too ;)
I want to start making some shorter content, but I would have to do voice overs for the content to make it any good, since I'm always blathering about things through the whole thing. I know some find it super annoying, but others really enjoy and need the support when they're newer pilots. It's hard to get help when you're new.
@@BrianPhillipsRC i love the long videos as well but i think most people dont have 1hr plus to watch through a video. I would think shorter videos would get more views but thats just my opinion either way im a big fan of the content since im just getting into the hobby and im trying to absorb as much knowledge as i can.
