    I just bought this plane. Before I never really knew why these Timbers were so popular. Now I exactly know why. The airplane is just so easy to fly, will do anything you want it to do to, and is just so predictive with new maneuvers you want to try with it. Inverted is the easier than any other plane I’ve flown. The power is Insane. It’s just one of those planes you can do touch and goes with and short spot landings and takeoffs all day long.

    The barrel that the landing gear mounts to has a flat spot on it where the gear mounts to. I think the barrel had to be rotated for the screws to go correctly.

    Finally got my Evolution together. All went well... so simple a setup. Got the reverse going easily... nice to have your video to follow... thanks. The only issue I had was the fit of the wing. The wing bolt area on the fuselage... the half circles that face each other that are not in foam... these are bigger that the area of the wing that fit over this bolt area. I had to carve at least 1/8 inch back on the wing bolt areas so that the wing would drop over, and around, the fuselage bolt area. Not a big deal, but usually these things just fit. Cheers.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC

    If this plane comes with floats, then this is probably gonna be a really cool plane for me because the airfield I go to usually gets flooded once every couple of weeks, so having floats will be really cool for that place.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  3 года назад +3

      Floats does make the plane a LOT bigger, so transportation can be a bit more complicated. If you take off the wing, the pugs are a LOT easier on this one, FYI

    Brian, you and your camera crew, with your enthusiastic reviews and instruction are what got me into this hobby. Mind you I'm still in flight sim mode with the WS2000, I've purchased an Arrows Trekker to learn on but also bought the Towers Hobby ASW 28, both on your recommendations, because I love the concept of sailing with power boost. However, every sport I ever taken on I felt it necessary to purchase gear in advance to drive incentive to the next level, kind of an incentive to progress. The models you test and review give me a clear path on how I'd like to progress in the hobby. Most importantly as a beginner, what not to waste my time and money on for pure guess work.
    Thank you to you and your wife for the dedication it takes to produce such an informative but absolutely entertaining channel, please keep up the great work.
    BTW, getting ready for first flight on my Trekker after Sim time on my NX6, about to unbox Tower Hobbies ASW 28 with AR630 but the next feather is the Timber Evolution. My thought, always have a goal to progress to or you'll never get there. Sorry for the long reply, just wanted to thank you for the great work you and your family do the for the hobby.

      Awesome! Glad we could help you get where you need to be, without the usual "over-buying" that you've experienced with other hobbies. I tend to do the same, and learn that more often than not, I could have just saved a lot of cash for the steps I REALLY ended up needing. We try HARD to give this very crucial advice, even though it can be painful to follow this advice as a new RC pilot ;)
      Thanks for the kind words, and we're very glad you're here with us.
      Good luck. It's HARD when you're new, but don't forget the heart attacks of a new RC pilot are HOW you will know it's a life long habit ;) Enjoy you're lack of skills...seriously...it's FUN to learn. It's fun to be "Bad" at it - in a few short years, you'll be GOOD!!!!! I know this sounds crazy, but believe me, you'll eventually "GET IT" - and then you can say - WOW - you're like a fortune teller BrianPhillips ;) LOL
      And to answer you direct questions...Get what you have in the air. "Master" it...then get another plane coming. ASW28 is a great choice ( bprc.me/Tower_ASW28 + bprc.me/AR637T - if you want VARIO | bprc.me/AR631 - you might WANT the antenna for $5 more...just FYI since it's a SAIL PLANE it can get out there )

    BTW for everybody watching and building this plane. I also had to cross thread the 8mm button head screw to get my landing gear on. Although mine is on the other side, which leads me to believe its the aluminum swivel brackets that were machined inaccurately. Brian knows how to use a screwdriver. I felt like a jackass until I watched this and saw his do the same thing. I contacted horizon they are sending me a whole new landing gear assembly.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  3 года назад

      Not glad you had an issue, but I'm glad to hear that I wasn't alone. Some of these minor issues are isolated, and others are not...like on the Carbon Z Cub SS 2.1m - the bolts that they picked for the landing gear wheel collars were RIDICULOUS...so we ended up replacing just THAT bolt. A set screw would have been about 100X better, then they would clear the DuBro tires when people add them too ;)

    Brian another way to take of the problem you had with landing gear on Turbo Timber Evolution, is to get a triangular model file
    then cut a groove the length of the screw on two or three sides then put the screw in the hole turn it back and forth going deeper
    as you go. Try it next time you have a screw that starts but does not go all the way.

    The first time I saw your video I subscribed. Your presentation is very informative, helpful & entertaining. My GF & I Lol at the comments you say at times. Anyway, 6 years ago I was interested in heli's & a hobby store salesman suggested my first purchase be the RF sim after a few months with RF & a 4 channel heli. I got the Walkera Master CP. After 3 crashes on 4 flights, I sold out to a friend. Fast forward. A friend with zero experience picked up a P-51 huge gas plane at an estate sale. My interest was renewed. I remembered flying planes was easier than heli's on RF & got RF 9.5, I have since put in maybe 500 hours during the pandemic, & used your link to purchase the TT Evolution on Pre-order & still waiting. Yes, this is my first plane. I realize flying a sim isn't the same as a real plane but, I've put the majority of my RF hours into landing. I've since learned to knife-edge, inside/outside loops, rolls, cuban-8, Immelmann roll, Split-s, hammerhead, & still working on hovering. I'm working on having my GF being my "Camera Crew" for my Maiden You are a lucky man having your wife like yours. She does a fantastic job.
    Do you have suggestions for my very 1st airplane flight? My plan is to go one step at a time. Start with Safe & not crash the Maiden Flight. I've never uploaded a video on RUclips but, no matter what happens, I will upload my Maiden. After all sooner or later everyone crashes, right? Wish me luck. This is one where I can say, "I make my own luck"

      Robert! Very capable plane for a first plane ;) GOOD choice, none the less. I hope you'll keep her in SAFE for a few rounds, and then get the plane back. Don't worry about doing a single trick, just fly her in a circle. I promise you will be just fine, if you can fly an RC heli in real life, you will be just fine.
      Give yourself a lot of room, and plan on being very patient with yourself, and you'll be fine!
      Good luck!

    Great video, I’m now a subscriber. One note. Being in the RC hobby: now at the age of 62 ,been building stick kits to foams since I was a kid . (1) most important factor no matter how long you have been teaching and building these models. Never install prop or props on any model until last . I’ve built Heli’s , planes. And vehicles. The drive is always last . Mistakes happen. Do not teach bad habits . Other then that you made my top 3 on you tubers for All steps , from building, set up, maidens flights, video ( camera crew / wife) 👏. Audio at times could use some upgrades. But. Certainly still well done. Please continue your outstanding & beautifully done videos . Note if you must install the prop early in the build just don’t tighten so it doesn’t have much bite if a accidental mishap should happen. If you ever dive into building you own fob quad copters ( props last is step number 1 ) P.S looking forward to purchasing this Bird and new Transmitter.

I think you happened into our channel at a gap in our Lav mics...we had an issue around this time and were in the process of upgrading. Thankfully, we've since worked through many of the woes of audio issues. Now we seem to have a stable, reliable, and effective audio solution, so please forgive us with past footage (and there's a LOT of it).

    Brian, Megan, another excellent video. Thank you.
    It's refreshing to see a manufacturer, Horizon in this instance, responding to comments from its' customers and making changes/upgrades to their popular models. This is a great plane made even better. Now, all they need to do is to make their profit margins more realistic to allow for "friendlier" aircraft price range.
    Enough whining on my part.
    One other observation though... IMO, installing the prop should be the last assembly step. At most it's a safety concern, at the very least it often gets in the way during the rest of the assembly. By the way, I'm not ragging on Horizon about this, many manufacturers seem to take this route.
    Thanks again guys and I hope you both get to relax and enjoy the Memorial Day weekend.

    Fantastic instructions on thrust reversing! Worked just as you taught although I put it on switch D to keep it ‘mostly out of the way’. Glad it helped! So many SMALL details make the difference here, which is why I always kinda stress, if you're newer (or returning) work through the process a few times and you'll be set. Quite a bit to like about this one not least that for some reason the red decals make the plane look less 'gangly' than the white and blue one I have. I know they are the same wings and so should present the same outline but that red one just looks more in proportion as if it has a slightly greater wing chord. Sadly UK drone regs have put this out of reach for a lone flyer like me so its potentially a waste of money but great if you are a club flyer.

    Hi Brian, looking for cons too, not just the pros! (tho thank you for the pros you go over!! Extremely helpful). After several flights, I wonder if you've experienced the dreaded ESC overheating issue on yours. Or, if your tailwheel needed physical adjustments to roll straight, in alignment with the rudder. OR, if you've found a way to correct that annoying delay when you hit the throttle and it lags for half a second+ before the thrust kicks in (enough time for you to hit the ground if you're not expecting a delay). I've had all 3 of these issues in the first day of owning this thing. I would have DEFINITELY gone with a different plane if I knew of these issues... None of which exist in my humble Apprentice S2 (first plane). Anyway, it would be awesome to go-to your vids for trusted real life feedback as well, not just the key selling points! Maybe you have a follow-up review vid linked somewhere and I'm just not seeing it. Thanks!
