I think it made everyone tear up. Especially because it had Uncle Ben in the flesh. The only two other moments that come close are Spectacular Spider-Man when Peter fights the Symbiote in his mindscape and gets saved by Uncle Ben, and Ultimate Spider-Man when they team up with Dr. Strange to fight the demon nightmare who defeats Steven Iron Fist before attempting to torture Peter with his greatest loss. Unfortunately Nightmare's attempt to defeat Spidey through Ben Parker backfired. Instead Uncle Ben gave his nephew a confidence boost, and helped him remember that Nightmares only have power if you let them.
It really hits hard when a VA has such a genuine, heart breaking scream. Christopher Barnes definitely has one of those. Every time Peter was screaming like when the Mary Jane clone died, it just hits harder than it should, his performance is THAT good.
You forgot to mention that Doc Ock was voiced by the late great Efrem Zimbalist Jr., who also voiced Alfred Pennyworth from the DCAU. He even reprised his role in the 2000 video game and the first version of the Universal Studios attraction.

It was my favorite comic series ever since I received a big creepy trunk of comics from a family friend. The only problem? That original run took place in the 80's, one decade before comic collecting became a fad and all the comics were worthless due to there being so many in circulation. As a result, I could never find any of the books that left me with gaps in knowledge, because I didn't have internet, and my local comic book store employees would look at me like I had a third head when I'd walk in and say: "No thanks, I don't want to read One Piece. Can you point me in the direction of your multi-decade old rare-as-fuck comic books, please? By the way, my budget's ten bucks"

Spider-Man: The Animated Series is an important part of media because of how well it established the characters, themes, and stories in ways that were never done before, helping create one of the best iterations of Spider-Man to date.
This show was great. People always talk about the "censorship" (which this show didn't have any more than X-Men). No matter how old this series gets, it will always be great. I'm also glad it stayed true to the 60's comics.
It's amazing that even though they were censored, they still managed to do justice to a character like Carnage. Still the best portrayal of the character. Censorship pushes these writers to get around it, and they had clever writers on this show.
What can I say? It’s my favorite piece of spidey media of all time. I love it the most these days because it managed to do everything the other animated shows either didn’t or didn’t get to do.
I think it's the definitive adaptation as well as a great show in itself. Pretty much every comic through the first 30 years was either adapted or is a follow-up to something that was adapted.
This show is still my favorite superhero show of all time. The Raimi movies feel like great companions since they took inspiration from the show. Really feels like it was the character from the show brought to life.

The show that got me into Spidey growing up, and as we saw made changes in a lot of characters that were so good that the comics and movies adopted them for good. It was also competing with the even more legendary Batman animated series, further cementing its place in history. The crazy meta ending we got was probably better than anything a sixth season could have produced. Easy enough to picture Madame Web just using her powers to reunite the two lost lovers immediately after Spidey's 'long, hard journey'.
Before I even watch this video, I’ll just say that this show was my intro to the superhero genre as a child. Not the comics, not any movies, it was this show. And that alone makes it important to me.
Well I existed in the 90s. And this has always been MY Spidey. He's buff, he's an adult with a deep voice, he's a bit of a brawler with an irritable temper and a humorous wit, and he's not a skinny dandy-pandy "I'm feeling so much right now" sensitive flower which invariably he has been shown to be in the last decade and a half.
This was hilarious. But, tbf, Spidey in this show also had feelings and had to feel stuff. He was always in reflective thought. But yeah, I get you, it's different though.
I don't know what show you were watching but 90s Spider-Man was one of the most sensitive and emotional versions of the character outside of the comics.
@@teddybeer6206 yes he was, but he was manly as fukk while current Spidey is a flowerchild. 90s Spidey had agency, he went around and he pursued fulfillment in a classically male sense, and accepted consequences even if they weren't of his liking, while modern Spidey is a victim.
@@thestarkknightreturns Modern Spidey a victim? Spectacular Spider-Man wasn't a victim. He did all he could to fix his mistakes and took accountability for his actions. 90s Spidey whined a whole lot too. Another extreme nostalgic.
@@teddybeer6206wrong 90s spider-man was by far. Better. More manly, adults took accountability, wanted to have a life but understood deep down he couldn’t. Even the emotional stuff he did was realistic. Many people doubt themselves with there gifts and responsibilities, and at times need reassurance. Where as your version of spider is some nut lame ass prankster who is borderline a child.
I recently watched Spider-man Unlimited and it's actually pretty good. It's funny seeing elements we're now familiar with from the MCU such as Spideys nano suit, Counter Earth, High Evolutionary etc. It's got a great comic book art style too.
This series, Spiderman(2000) game and Tobey Maguire movies are so close to my heart. The studios could spun any form of entertainment related to Spiderman and it would always be awesome. Hated anything post 2009. Good old days of Jetix!😢
Smythe confused me because the action figure of him mutated was released before his mutation on the show. There was also an "Alien Spider Slayer" figure released that never appeared on the show.
I just got the 90's X-men and Spider-man shows off ebay. I'm half way through X-men and going to watch Spider-man next. I am really excited to watch these again. The stories really do hold up. They are such great shows.
The 90s series was one of my favourites to watch as a kid and pretty much introduced me to Spider-Man. This is the definitive animated adaptation of the web slinger alongside Spectacular Spider-Man.
My favorite Spidey voices are Josh Keaton, Christopher Barnes, Yuri Lowenthal, and Jake Johnson. And I think Yuri is on his way to becoming the Kevin Conroy for Spiderman
It’s the same exact thing as the Batman animated series. A lot of the origin stories we know and love came from the cartoons. Like Mr Freeze, Clay Face and introducing Harley Quinn.
Spider Man TAS is indeed, a great show that I am glad I got a VHS of as a kid. Granted, said VHS was lost to time, but I still remember the 4 episodes (Framed, The Man Without Fear, The Ultimate Slayer, and Tombstone) that were on it quite vividly.
it is really the first major intro to comics for a lot of kids because the reason I got excited for the mcu was because of knowing them through Spider- Man
Excellent work on this review. I don’t agree with your evaluation of every story arc but I can totally tell that we both strongly appreciate this show. It’s a very special piece of my childhood and it is indeed my favorite interpretation of spider-man. It’s got a lot of depth and great character development. You’re also right about many cool characters and your voice actor tributes are great too. Very good job. I’m so glad I watched this video today and I’m looking forward to seeing plenty more marvel cartoon reviews from you. On a side note I am one of the few people who actually likes the forgotten warriors arc. Maybe it’s just me but for me this story is a hidden treasure.
Spider-Man: The Animated Series is not only important, but it is quite possibly on my honest opinion a more essential blueprint to writing Spider-Man than even how the comics have turned out to be, it knows that went is reaches boundaries, it halts before it ends up like what has been happening to 616 but doesn't restrict itself to strongly on other ideas either.
This show is a legend for numerous reasons, and the times Chris Barnes memed it up long before memes remains solid as a thing of beauty. I like Unlimited, it's different and unique with a rocky start, but I think it had the potential to be better than Spectacular.
I care about Peter’s parents. Caring about them isn’t consesnus. It doesn’t break the rules at all. Also Namor and Jim Hammond are cool and Electro’s costume isn’t stupid
I would not say that Eddie Brock was a new addition to the comics, his first cameo appearance was in Web of Spiderman 18 (1986) and then fully appeared in Amazing Spiderman 300 (May 1988) so by the time he made it to this show, he had been around for over half a decade. Nice video
Season 5 was kind of a mess tbh but a happy ending all in all. I hear they are doing an X-Men reboot so Spidey needs one too. We need to see him find his Mary Jane. Also what happened to Venom and Carnage? We need more Venom and Carnage as they are without a doubt Spider-Mans greatest foes. Nice review good job 👏 👍
Great video as always dude. This is in my top three favorite adaptations of Spider-Man. Im excited to potentially see you review Spectacular Spider-Man. Ps Morbin time was used amazingly
This iust hands down the best is the best adult spiderman voice for me and he should be top 3 for anyone else. In general hes just a great voice actor, i'm glad you gave him his flowers, i didn't know he was still playing spiderman characters and that makes me happy, he truly is a talent with range. Christoper Daniel Barnes we salut you.
Honestly, as a kid when this aired, i thought Spider-man and madam web going to find Mary Jane was actually the LEGIT series finale. I remember saying to my friends "they probably ran out of ideas, or just wanted to end it on a high note" Obviously I was wrong, but much like Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes, even though both shows were cancelled, they had final episodes that did feel like series finales.
This show was my introduction to Spider-Man and I will never get tired of it. Yeah shows like Spectacular Spider-Man did some things better than this show did, but this introduced so many different characters and villains from the comics that had never been seen before and told a great story. We didn't need to see his origin told or his high school era, he came fully formed but we still have a progression of the character to adulthood. Which is something that the comics are incapable of doing ever since one more day. When I read the comics, I always hear Christopher Barnes voice as Spider-Man.
Spider-Man the animated series walked so Spectacular Spider-Man could run Chris Barnes will always be my Spider-Man voice he poured his heart and soul into the character bro
Imagine you are marrying the girl of your dreams. She mysteriously disappears. Now her identical twin sister appears. Are you okay with marrying her? My point is, even if he finds the real MJ she is not the one he married, she is a completely separate person with the same face.
The Uncle Ben and Spider Carnage moment made me tear up.
I felt a tug at the heartstrings myself
Sick video! Makes me wanna rewatch the entire series again :)
Same 😭😭😭😭😭😭
I think it made everyone tear up.
Yeah if anything this is why i think that Spider-Man TAS was the Marvel equivalent to Batman TAS only just subtle instead of blunt like the latter.
It really hits hard when a VA has such a genuine, heart breaking scream. Christopher Barnes definitely has one of those. Every time Peter was screaming like when the Mary Jane clone died, it just hits harder than it should, his performance is THAT good.

Before I even watch this video, I’ll just say that this show was my intro to the superhero genre as a child. Not the comics, not any movies, it was this show. And that alone makes it important to me.
You know you are old when there is a segment saying RIP....
@@thestarkknightreturns
Modern Spidey a victim?
I miss this show, the writing and voice acting was on point! Still pissed we never got that conclusive ending...
I really like your reviews man. Keep it up!
You didn’t exist in the 90s kid you’re making me feel so old. How dare you not be born in the 90s
I just got the 90's X-men and Spider-man shows off ebay. I'm half way through X-men and going to watch Spider-man next. I am really excited to watch these again. The stories really do hold up. They are such great shows.
This is what made me a Spider-Man fan to This Day 🥰
Spider-Man: WE all need to grow up sometime. Even fictional characters.
Marvel Comics: I'm going to ignore that.
Spectacular Spider-Man is my favorite with this being a close second.
Word.
Wait a minute!!
This show had the first lady of Star Trek, Uhura, and Tuvok!?!
Been waiting for this keep it up man 👍
the series must return again .
Heck yeah!
I remember watching this on my VHS as a kid. Their take on the Symbiote and venom was very close to the comics
This show was the MCU before the MCU. I loved it and still do.
The 90s series was one of my favourites to watch as a kid and pretty much introduced me to Spider-Man. This is the definitive animated adaptation of the web slinger alongside Spectacular Spider-Man.
What Connors did to Vulture was an ultra chad move!
How has the MCU not incorporated this into their universe?!
This video has a lot of hilarious edits. And I dig it. Also I grew up on this show which probably tells you how much it means to me. Lol
My favorite episode has to be when
Stan Lee made a cameo.
Then he got left on the roof.😂
Spider Man TAS is indeed, a great show that I am glad I got a VHS of as a kid. Granted, said VHS was lost to time, but I still remember the 4 episodes (Framed, The Man Without Fear, The Ultimate Slayer, and Tombstone) that were on it quite vividly.
Let's go another banger video
it is really the first major intro to comics for a lot of kids because the reason I got excited for the mcu was because of knowing them through Spider- Man
I'm so glad to see this show getting love again
THE GOAT HAS RETURNED
Spider-Man: The Animated Series is not only important, but it is quite possibly on my honest opinion a more essential blueprint to writing Spider-Man than even how the comics have turned out to be, it knows that went is reaches boundaries, it halts before it ends up like what has been happening to 616 but doesn't restrict itself to strongly on other ideas either.
i remember watching this when they were new when i was a kid. ive fucking loved spiderman ever since
This show is a legend for numerous reasons, and the times Chris Barnes memed it up long before memes remains solid as a thing of beauty.
I like Unlimited, it's different and unique with a rocky start, but I think it had the potential to be better than Spectacular.
It doesn't matter how many times I hear you say it. I'll never get used to hearing you say Spida-Man, and Peta Packa. 🤪
I love your Marvel videos
THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS!!!! Especially towards the end, this absolutely brought back all the feels❤Giving you a WELL DESERVED like and subscribe!
The GOAT is back !!!😆
I care about Peter’s parents. Caring about them isn’t consesnus. It doesn’t break the rules at all. Also Namor and Jim Hammond are cool and Electro’s costume isn’t stupid
This will always be my favorite spiderman cartoon.
I would not say that Eddie Brock was a new addition to the comics, his first cameo appearance was in Web of Spiderman 18 (1986) and then fully appeared in Amazing Spiderman 300 (May 1988) so by the time he made it to this show, he had been around for over half a decade. Nice video
The best spiderman cartoon 90s ❤❤❤
Season 5 was kind of a mess tbh but a happy ending all in all. I hear they are doing an X-Men reboot so Spidey needs one too. We need to see him find his Mary Jane.
Also what happened to Venom and Carnage? We need more Venom and Carnage as they are without a doubt Spider-Mans greatest foes.
Nice review good job 👏 👍
This video was great….. you took me back to my childhood. Your research was great!
Great video as always dude. This is in my top three favorite adaptations of Spider-Man. Im excited to potentially see you review Spectacular Spider-Man. Ps Morbin time was used amazingly
"Revenge of the Draculas ego" was perfectly delivered by Barnes😂
It was the Time Dilation accelerator. God even after all these years I still remember! Good video
Damn , it’s been 20 years for me watching this ,
Thanks for making this ❤
This iust hands down the best is the best adult spiderman voice for me and he should be top 3 for anyone else. In general hes just a great voice actor, i'm glad you gave him his flowers, i didn't know he was still playing spiderman characters and that makes me happy, he truly is a talent with range. Christoper Daniel Barnes we salut you.
The animation style was amazing back then
My Glorious King has returned
Honestly, as a kid when this aired, i thought Spider-man and madam web going to find Mary Jane was actually the LEGIT series finale. I remember saying to my friends "they probably ran out of ideas, or just wanted to end it on a high note" Obviously I was wrong, but much like Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes, even though both shows were cancelled, they had final episodes that did feel like series finales.
They probably got away with punisher because his main/only target was a monstrous Peter Parker Man-Spider
Great video, amazing work
I grew up in the 90s I used to watch the show was my favourite that’s it’s my favourite Spider-Man tv show
This show was my introduction to Spider-Man and I will never get tired of it.
Looking forward to the ep on Spider-Man Unlimited!
Spider-Man the animated series walked so Spectacular Spider-Man could run Chris Barnes will always be my Spider-Man voice he poured his heart and soul into the character bro
Poor SpiderCarnage...
Where's ReedRichard's *SonicGun* When Ya Need It?
Imagine you are marrying the girl of your dreams.
She mysteriously disappears.
Now her identical twin sister appears.
Are you okay with marrying her?
My point is, even if he finds the real MJ she is not the one he married, she is a completely separate person with the same face.
