@Harsh kumar Joshi only 105 countries play cricket and football is played by 211 countries nearly the whole world and in africa only south africa is a cricketing nation other nations r football lovers like senegal ghana nigeria
Its called American Football... crazy I know but its a break off of Football (as much as they hate to admit it) and they still have a ton of these rules!
1:28 (goal posts) 8 yards apart 1:41 (goal posts) were again 8 ft or 2.4m apart Correct width for 1863 was 8 yards or 7.3m, which is the same as in today's game.
I interpret the 1863 offside rule differently. Even if no player from your team may be ahead of you, you could still kick the ball ahead and across and wait for your mates to catch up. Not as boring as strict backward passing. As for the field size, those numbers given here were the maximum. That doesn't mean fields as "small" as ours today weren't common.
That is what it meant. "No forward passing"/"only backwards passing" are just easier ways to express the rule, but they lose accuracy in the process of simplifying it. It was really the same as offside today: all about the position of the players at the time the pass is played.
I think they should add the 2 and 3 points rules like basketball currently have today. If you score a long shoot like between the centre circle and the penalty area, the points should be 2 not 1.
1863 laws of the game _Thou the maximum length of the field shalt be 400 cubit, and the maximum breadth shalt be 200 cubit._ _Thou every time a goal is scored, thee teams shalt change goals._ _Thee throw in shalt be awarded to the first player to touch the ball after it went out of play._
So fun fact the first time American Football was played it was also considered the first football (soccer) game ever played in America, after seeing these rules it makes a lot more sense. They still switch sides after every touch down, they can only pass forward on the initial play, you can score a goal as high as you want and there is still no upper limit (they did raise the goal though).
I just found out shin guards are mandatory nowadays. I always wondered how players do not get injured and how they are able to keep a low injury rate. I got used to basketball where there are usually no such protective gear requirements. Most common injuries are ankle sprains, knee injuries from stiffly slipping, running, jumping, and physical contact, sometimes catastrophic, and such
Back in my Hometown in India, during 80s, Players were allowed to go on rampage for 5 minute between the game, No foul no cards. It was upto the ref who decides the rampage time. My uncle still talks about how his dad lost a tooth and dislocated the backbone 😂
These outdated and archaic rules really show how similar Football was to Rugby. For example: That offside rule is still used in Rugby where backward passes are allowed while front passes are considered offside.

I still enjoy playing in my mother’s great grandfather’s leather boots with my kids. Call me crazy but they are the most comfortable pair I’ve ever worn. I tried hundreds of pairs for the past 3 years, returned them all. Managed to settle down with Tiempo 5 & 8. I love everything the olden times of football. Such a true gentleman’s sport. You should watch THE ENGLISH GAME on Netflix. It’s a MUST WATCH!!

I once read about a rule in the early years that a goal counted only if the (or a) striker also touched the ball after crossing the goal line - like a touch down in American football
Some schools said you had to "touch down" the ball after it went through the goal to score the point. Some schools was the same as rugby or American football. Just hit it between the posts to score the point.
And then Americans made there own version called also football (for some reason) where u also kick thru to poles with no crossbar but thats the only time u use your feet is kicking a extra point..it sounds extra to me
ooooo..weired rules..Thks unisport..i told many time to upload videos of rules we dont know in football.thks for uploading this even by not in my consideration
UNISPORT I AM FROM INDIA AND I LIKE YOUR AWESOME AND FLASHY VIDEOS.BUT I AM NOT SO RICH I DIDN'T HAVE FOOTBALL OR BOOT. IF YOU'RE READY TO HELP ME PLZ REPLY A HEARTLY FAN FROM INDIA
Good video. But you messed out the goalposts. It was 8 yards apart, just like today, not 8 feet. The text was right, but the animation and the conclusion that it was more narrow than today were wrong.
*THUMBS UP* if you enjoyed the episode! *Some of these rules are absolutely crazy!*
First
Unisport yeah
I loved the video
Uplifting during this pandemic.

Idiot even Messi would have scored they still had lossed
Lmao best joke
BROOK LEO 10 and sterlings miss against Lyon
And Roberto baggio wouldn't miss the penalty
Imagine the kind of football we would be playing if all these rules were still in place😂
Its called American Football... crazy I know but its a break off of Football (as much as they hate to admit it) and they still have a ton of these rules!
It would be a lot like Gaelic football.
@@gbroyce55 rugby and gaelic came first then the from rugby Americans made american football
@@gbroyce55 No wonder, as I saw the narrow goal I was like, hey... This is reminding me of something.

2:31 - They show Kieran Brown catching the ball and putting it down from his video: "playing with 1863 rules!"😂👍
Who wants to play Fifa '63?😂🤣😅

I think the smallest it could be was 100 yards by 50.
1:44 its 8 yards, not 8 feet.. so it was still 24 feet apart, same as today but with no crossbar.
Imagine ramos and suarez as refrees during elclasico
That would be something to witness 😂😂

2.Ronaldo
3.Neymar
4.Ronaldinhio

6. Zidane

Ya
I got the same question
1863 laws of the game
_Thou the maximum length of the field shalt be 400 cubit, and the maximum breadth shalt be 200 cubit._
_Thou every time a goal is scored, thee teams shalt change goals._
_Thee throw in shalt be awarded to the first player to touch the ball after it went out of play._

You can really see the way that football, rugby, and Australian Rules all have a kind of common ancestry
To be fair tho AFL half came from
Aboriginal culture

@unisport for this video, did 'The English Game' on Netflix inspired you guys to make this video?
Usharbudha Dev I watched that

We have a crossbar. You have to kick over it.
FIFA NEW GAMEMODE?
1863 rules challenge lmfao
Why did you use Kieran’s video at 2:31
Back when they sacrificed virgins so it would rain for 3 days.
Are you serious?
@@hhariomm about what?
Me missing over the bar
Me: GOAL IM SO PRO
Knew most of these from Kieran's vid a while ago!
So basically it is American Football. Catch Ball with Hands, no crossbar....
More like Aussie rules; four goalposts, no crossbar, catching and kicking - but a bit gentler!
The English game mad series
I am lucky I was born in 2013 when all the old rules forbidden
1:37 i think i almost died from laughter
Imagine being a goal keeper and someone gonna take a penalty but there's no crossbar
The goal net was kind of like Gaelic 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
ooooo..weired rules..Thks unisport..i told many time to upload videos of rules we dont know in football.thks for uploading this even by not in my consideration

You have commented this 8 times. Have you gotten “football or boot.” yet?
Why did you Guys change the thumbnail?
I have a doubt if footballer of his own team uses hand and make goal to his own team by hand then we take as a goal or take penalty
Sheffield rules preceded the FA rules.
Cant pass forward!? We cant get confused with American football lads! 🤣
Americans are better than your Arab country lmao and I’m not American But I am from the americas
POV: You just came from Kieran Brown's video
Netflix's "The English Game" effect??
oh yeah bro that was an amazing show.
Correction: the original rules are not actually in Beowulf.
Really?
FOOTball with use of HANDS?????
that is the real football...
in America
I know how to play with ahnd when needed😬😬
8 yards is not 8 feet. There are 3 feet in one yard making it 24 feet, the same width as a regular goal today.
Good video. But you messed out the goalposts. It was 8 yards apart, just like today, not 8 feet. The text was right, but the animation and the conclusion that it was more narrow than today were wrong.
Old football is quite similar to American football
1:00
Everytime a goal is scored they change *GOALS*
so football back in those days was not football
100 years later there will be no field and those kids would laugh we had a field
i appreciate it.
love from kolkata India
If crossbars were not there our Leo Messi could have scored those copa America final goals
