  • Coaches, and players! How much do you focus on proper technique on receiving a pass? When I am coaching young players I do my best to give them a good habit of controlling the ball with their backfoot.
    This is crucial if you want to be efficient on the pitch where you have limited time and space!

    "Some people believe football is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that". - Bill Shankly

    The point to drive home is that you already have a general idea of where to find the next play. You don't need to know exactly but the difference between an average player and a great player is that the great player already has an idea what to do and how to maneuver the ball and his BODY in the right direction. He's setting himself up in a positive momentum.

    I play high level football in Spain youth league, my experienced with backfoot was not as good as I thought. Backfoot controls is good when opponent doesn't apply much pressure on you, but most of the team applies heavy press on to opponent, making backfoot controls really risky. This is because if they are on me, they can directly reach for my backfoot, so I always control with my front foot than back foot control under pressure. But BACKFOOT is a option when your opponent doesn't apply much pressure.

      I commented above about this.. in tight areas under pressure it’s the only way to consistently have control the football as a player/ team - but you have to scan and have awareness before receiving.
      The higher the level the more consistently you see players implement the basics, regardless of position.
      Good luck!

      The best technical/id even say most professional players use the backfoot either to turn to play forward, or to shield the ball. Body orientation and backfoot receiving goes hand in hand.

      @@88balloonsonthewall70 yes Backfoot are an great option, but if they press you or if they are on your back. Backfoot can’t not be used.

      @@sonaldosui8154 Yes it can be used and most often should be used as the lead leg will protect the ball, back foot does not mean you have to face play as its all relative to body positioning too. ASComps have made a brilliant compilation called "The Art of Receiving the Ball" where you can see it at the highest level being used in all sorts of situations and positions on the pitch.

  • @djedwjones5982
    @djedwjones5982 Год назад +11

    One issue - you didn’t scan once. Body position and choice of back foot to receive on half turn or to shield is dictated in a real game by position of opposition.
    Weaker players will lose the ball more often controlling off front foot not because of the ball getting away necessarily but because they are turning into defenders blind- it’s not a percentage play outside of a one on one situation where you have scanned and know you can beat your man - good for strikers getting shots off or wingers in low jeopardy areas of the pitch not for midfield.
    Back foot gives you some insurance in tight spaces and done well opens up the pitch as you say in your video.
    Thanks for the video I often tell young players their elite trainer is the humble wall and a friend- endless high touch variations for free!

    I had a back foot session this morning (8/9/24) with my u/9 son. I just hold him that the rule is to get out of the way of the ball and touch it with the furthest foot. He got it very quickly.
