Hello there potters! In this episode I wanted to do a deep dive on how to make a good quality lidded jar. the two most basic ceramic jars you'll see in the wild are the gallery lid an the drop in lid. With these two basic forms in mind this video will address five tips to make a well fitted lidded form. A tight, smooth, lid that compliments the form is mainly what people desire when making a liddedjar, but first we have to make sure it's well crafted. This video will help with that. admittedly this video is a little more advanced. I you are having a trouble throwing off of the hump of have no idea how to splitt clay while throwing, this video is probably not for you. This video assumes you have at least tried and have had made some type of jar form before. If you need a video about those things, I will post them down below :)

If you are seeing this, I just did a small store update on my website.
And yes, I made dragon mugs.
good tips. I learned to leave a slight slope on the drop in, because it will go more smoothly into the opening. But then you have to measure/fit from the angle rather than the edge.
Thank you! This was very helpful.
Thank you soo much for the lidded tips! Tip #3 was such a help❤️🇨🇦
love your point of making the drop in straight. It's the same in sewing a seam. Good thinking. I saw a guy cut off the top of a pot, turn it upside down and put it on a slab that was cupped and then add a pulled handle on top. Everything seamed to work.
I JUST started making tea pots, wonderful video!
Thank you! The mystery of well-fitting lidded forms solved!❤
Thank you, I am barely experimenting with lids. These tips are on time for me.
Thank you! Just in time for me! Keep cool Donte!
I'll try 😩
Omg Thankyou donte this has helped me sooo much! I’m off to buy grinding compound!! Nat xx
This was really helpful to me thanks!
The way I needed this videooooo 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Great advice! Thanks so much!
What would be the best way to glaze and fire lids and jars together without then sticking. Thank you.
Don't glaze the contact points. fire the jar separately.
Does that grinding paste just wash off without leaving a stain?
Yes. Just use water
This was fantastic, please do more! I've never heard of grinding compound. I can't wait to get some! Question: I hoped you'd talk about the shape of the inside of your lids, but you didn't. For example the view at 11:32 shows sort of two levels. At the corner where the drop-in stops, there's a plane that is at a slight slope , leading to a second plane that is the actual lid that is completely flat. Can you explain why you do it this way?
❤❤❤❤
3:17 - try trimming down, rather than in, to avoid your hand riding on bumps and divets around the base.
