Will they make a version without the screen on it? Seems like a waste of money for most that are going to connect screens / projectors / ipads etc to position for better viewing angles.
@@stitchwod I think that would be an interesting product, but there would still have to be some sort of screen interface for maintenance and portability. As far as I know at this time only the Square, SkyTrak+and the EyeMini Lite which are dedicated indoor units go screenless. I suspect a lot of of these will be sold to people wanting to use it outdoors because they don’t have room to swing indoors and that makes the screen a game changer for them, if it is bright enough . Also a lot of people just want to be able to have LM that just works. They was to play/practice Golf and don’t want to be spending their time playing with tech. Since th R50 does connect to the Garmin app and ecosystem, I suspect in the future, we will see more capabilities in that realm and perhaps a minimalist screen device priced between The R10 and R50, perhaps that is why it was not called the R20 :-)

@@GolfersAuthority Just been playing around with a couple of different LM's from Garmin R10, Rapsodo MLM, Mevo+, and GC3 in different environments.... ready to buy... can't justify the cost of the GC3, don't like subscriptions, don't like special dotted ball, etc so I've really been strongly leaning towards getting the Mevo+ until I heard of the SC4 Pro release... Actually yes, even though they are in the launch monitor you will need a PC or Mobile device to use E6 and GSPro. You won’t be able to use directly into the R50 screen.
@@cromwellandcompany2888 Bummer as having GSPro and E6 run natively on the device would be a game changer. Essentially they bundled a PC inside and then put a wall around it.
@@KayakFishingAddict Hopefully they will be able to make a simple software update in the future to allow for this change. All depends on how well the internal processing power really is for higher resolution graphics. Either way a major step in the right direction for bringing on future competition in this price range.
Cool product…but I think gspro is a far superior golf software. Yes, you can use gspro with the R50, but in order to use 3rd party software, you have to use a projector and a computer. That kind of defeats the purpose for me. I think for some this is an incredible golf monitor, but I think I’ll stick with my Mevo plus with the pro package and club face that allows left and right handed golf seamlessly.
They have just bundled a limited function iPad into the device. They should have made it with USB-C dock for tablet devices with the Garmin App installed. It would pretty much be exactly the same. As it is, the onboard CPU or GPU of the device is eventually not going to be able to keep up with the workload if the simulation software gets updated with improved graphics and realism. The more serious sim golfer isn't going to be content with Home Tee Hero even if the graphics have been improved from the R10 version of the software. As it is, you still need a gaming PC to be able to play GSPro with it so it kind of makes the onboard monitor a little bit less important. A version with a dock instead of the monitor at $1000 cheaper would be much nicer so we can update our iPads to keep up with software improvements.
"The more serious sim golfer isn't going to be content with Home Tee Hero even if the graphics have been improved from the R10 version of the software." Spot on
Totally disagree… by providing their own screen Garmin now has total control over the hardware required to provide the experience and are not subject to compatibility issues as Apple or Samsung or whoever change their OS and hardware. While it is possible that they could have underspec’d the graphics I kind of doubt it will be an issue or that Garmin would be so foolish. For example, the life span of Xbox or PS is more than adequate for years without internal changes to their design. As far as a serious golfer is concerned, the R50 having the avenue to GSPRO etc which doesn’t add any additional cost, that would not also be part of any other “serious” launch monitor, is a bonus, but for those that want to practice/play golf and not have to fool around with the tech, this design is a god send. The R50 potentially has the hardware of a GC3, for 1/4 less initial cost with a better user experience and far less subscription costs. It seems every launch monitor improves with time as firmware and software are upgraded and it will be interesting to see where the R50 will go. If you take subscription costs into account over 3-5 years this unit is a great value over other portable photometric launch monitors on the market in the $2500+ price range, Uneekor’s EyeMini included.
@@OMG-2 I don't disagree with anything you have just said! The R50 is a bit cheaper than a GC3 so if the data is as accurate then it's obviously a better choice! I just think that the only piece of hardware on the unit that could prevent the software from continually improving is the CPU or GPU so it might have been better to just make that part of the device upgradable. I'm sure it will be great for years! It looks like a mini version of a high end Golfzon Vision.

This can do a match with 2 or more players playing in sequence and keep track of everyone's score?
Yeah, it is sick. So you can play with your friends
the R10 and R50 should allow you to sync the range data with the additional club data gathered in Garmin Golf through the S62/S70
