For the R50 to go into that price range with (Bushnell, Full Swing, ProTee, Eye mini, Eye mini Lite, GC3, QED, Launch Box, etc.) makes zero sense. I already have a set up for using GSPro on ultra with putting. My R10 gives me accuracy way above it's price range. So now if I want to upgrade it is either Eye Mini lite ($2500) which is $2500 less than the R50 or The Square ($700) $4300 less than R50.
The r10 has no side spin. The accuracy is fine if you are a 25 handicapper with zero requirements for accurate data. It is if you are limited on space and want to get more accurate data due to the device being optical and not radar based like the r10 and mlm2. I have a skytrak+ and it is kind of a annoying to set up and get going. It also has some connectivity issues from time to time. This new r50 seems like a true plug n play device. Like in the video from the time he turned the device on and started hitting balls was about 45 seconds. That's a game changer IMO when you're limited on time and like me if you're limited on space with a side by side optic based LM.
Can it fit on a truestrike academy and see the gel section or is the camera throw too far for a single piece of stance turf? BLP sits right at the edge.
Do you think Garmin will release the R50 Home Tee Hero for the R10? I think it would extend the life of the R10, which now has strong competition from the Square and MLM2 Pro.
Been using the R10 for 2 years. No matter what I do mine is terribly inconsistent in accuracy, constant disconnects, micro usb charging, slow app. Luckily my car got broken into and I had the R10 charging in the rear seat and it got stolen. Insurance will give me a full refund to spend that money on something else 😅
@@itshadouken I have an R10 which has been ok for me. How is it going back and forth between left handed and right handed players? Does it know when you switch orientation? Or is there some sort of quick action you can tell the device? If you have to go into settings each time you switch from righty to lefty that would be a little irritating.
@@GolfBusters one last thing! I edited my initial comment above. Is there automatic detection when changing orientation if a shot is hit on the other direction? Or is there a quick thing you can touch on the screen to tell it you’re changing direction? I was going to pull the trigger on an overhead system, but if there is a quick way to tell it you’re changing from lefty to righty, this seems great.
Can gameplay be controlled from an iPad via Bluetooth while the HDMI is connected to a projector so you do not constantly squat down to set up the shots? Thanks for the video! From - "A tall old guy"
AmaIng video guys. How did you screen record the gameplay? Does this connect to ipad to control if you dont want to bend over all the time to aim your shot etc?
How was it switching between left and right handed golfers? do you have to select the handiness of the golfer at setup? edit: guess i should've waited until the end of the video lol
great video :) i would really be interested in seeing the variation of club path and face to path compared to trackman or gc4. If they are accurate in this there's no doubt in buying this launch monitor in my opinion.
We tested briefly and it seemed to be very accurate. I would be shocked if it wasn’t to be honest with how close the camera sits and how big your club sticker is.
umm but GSpro and E6 need like teraflops compute. What is the horsepower of this graphically if the GPU is baked in? You still need a gaming pc for that right. And You need a protection case. It'll still be be 6250 total. Nice unit for sure though.
I noticed you guys are left and right handed. How much of a pain is it to move this thing between players? If you lift and move does it pick right up for the next player easily?
Love the video, but 95% of people who are in the market for this, already own a laptop, so it’s not an automatic $1000 savings. But I think it’s still a good priced all in one. Impressive.
Is there a way to interact with it outside of the touchscreen? I imagine having to lean down for every shot would be annoying after awhile. Other than that this seems like an incredible product and I could see this possibly replacing my mlm2pro/ipad setup.
We really need to change the narrative around "incredible graphics". This is a solved problem and zero golf simulators get it right. Stop giving nintendo wii graphics the OK when we can very obviously do better.
Totally agree. The fact that they say this new version HTH is some of the best graphics they have seen is laughable. The new version of GSPro is pretty impressive.
I think what we meant is compared to other simulator softwares and overall course graphics. Gspro has some courses with better graphics and some with worse graphics. Although still feeling a little cartoony, the overall look is very clean and is the same for all courses. To us these graphics give a fortnite vibe and we’d rather have that across the board than such an up and down variance.
Can’t you play a round with others but alternate shots as you go down the hole? Or the only option is for each player to play the entire hole first before the next player hits?
I lease Home Tee Hero and own Awesome (R10) and I play with alternate shots, no problem. But the problem with any side monitor is needing to pick it up and move it for lefties to play.
I might have missed it in the video, but if this thing could read putts, I can see upgrading to it. If it could load software like Awesome Golf onto it, it would crush the competition. My only concern is overheating issues and screen brightness while under mid-day sun down here in Louisiana summers.
To me, that’s why I am shopping for a golf sim. I hardly played this summer, the New Orleans 90+ degree days beat me up too bad now. Looking for a sim so I can play when I want in a climate controlled environment. I like the local course capability of the Home Tee Hero. TPC greens fees are steep.
@@GolfBusters "We just personally believe you should never putt in on a golf simulator." Never heard anyone say that. I 100% agree. Why simulate what you can do for real? LOL
Clarification on "saving money by nit needing a gaming pc" = only applies for HTH users. If you want to play GSPro, which most do, youre still required to have a gaming laptop/pc.

@@DurangoLegend it looks like there might be a misunderstanding. HD is defined as starting at 720p and full HD or FHD is defined as starting at 1080p. You can check pretty much any source to confirm. You most definitely will be able to tell the difference between the two on a 10 inch screen. To put it in perspective, the ipad hasn't had a screen that bad since the ipad 2 in 2011. The original iPhone and Kindle in 2007 as well as the Samsung Galaxy S in 2010 had higher pixels per inch than this device. Higher resolution screens are especially helpful when you are reading because it adds clarity to text, like when you're looking at your swing information.
@@nate3972 It could probably handle it but it really isn't setup to be used like a standalone computer and probably a legal restriction. GSPro doesn't take that much graphics power for the HD resolution.
@ well you’ve always had an issue with blp, but you’re getting superior technology and accuracy for a fraction of its price. Hence the yearly cost. I’ll pay attention once pros start trusting garmin monitors.
Well.... It seems like a good unit for someone who needs a screen... But I'm in a sim with a projector and a laptop using the R10 right now and am looking to upgrade. The eye mini or lite are the ones I am eyeing. This makes really no sense for me at the price point. Another thing is that I use GSpro. As it stands right now garmin is not supported in GSpro and I have to use a connector that I downloaded that someone coded and put online. If that will remain the case and GSpro does not support the R50 then thats really a downside for me. 5k plus a sub to download a third party program to get it to actually work with the software I use is a no go.
No GSPro is supported by the R50, you just need a computer to run GSPro. Also the R50 is more accurate than the R10, has measured spin and club data that the R10 only calculates and has a high speed impact camera for video playback of your shot. R10 doesn't have that nor does the R10 read putts or short chips as well. Al in all the R50 is a big upgrade and you can drop the GSPro subscription fee of over $300 a year and play more courses on the new enhanced Home tee Hero software for only $100 a year.
Not even close to an R10. R10 is doppler this is 3 high speed cameras. Far more accurate than R10 and takes less space to setup. You can also put with Home Tee Hero on the R50 much more accurately and better than Mevo+ on GSPro. Mevo+ sucks for putting and short chipping. I have one and I can tell you it misses all putts less than 10 feet. Misses about 50% of short chips. The Mevo+ also a pain to setup and calibrate with every session and costs almost as much as the r50 when you add the advanced fusion tracking and face impact options. In addition GSPro doesn't offer home town courses and requires a fairly expensive subscription to use.
Man, I see so many issues with this. Was excited until I saw price. I would take an "R30" that's this thing without the screen for like $2,000. I don't see this thing selling well at all. It's big issue is it can only use Garmin on the screen, which most people won't wanna use. Vast majority of people with the R10 use awesome golf. You wanna use 3rd party software and you have to use other devices, rendering the screen totally useless. Which let's be honest, the Garmin graphics suck. It's cartoon like and plain. It's really the worst simulation platform available, and it's the only one you can use on the screen. You want real simulation you're going to GSpro or E6. Size is also insane, way too large for any kind of mobile use. The second they can use other softwares built in, then they'd sell like hot cakes, but right now they essentially solved a problem that no one else even knew existed.
The software is completely new. It isn't cartoony and the graphics quality is very good. Also Garmin has done an incredible job mapping courses world wide for accurate slopes trap locations etc. for over 43,000 courses. You don't get that on GSPro. This software is nothing like the original HTH.
@@DurangoLegend No, you don't get 43,000 courses on GSpro. But the quality of the courses on gspro are probably 100x better than HTH. Cmon man, they're not even remotely close in terms of realism.
@@nate3972 maybe but the unions would block it. does Garmin have 100 year union commitments like the auto industry that I'm not aware about? Do you really think this launch monitor has the same mark-up percentage as the auto industry? There are a lot of scholars on RUclips comments.

My iPad sits in front of me when I use my R10. It’s functionally the same as this one. I use Awesome Golf on a projector that plugs into the iPad. Is this $4000 more beneficial than the R10 with an iPad running Awesome Golf? I don’t see how.
That's a game changer IMO when you're limited on time and like me if you're limited on space with a side by side optic based LM.
ummm the difference is the R10 is not an accurate device and allegedly this one is
Had the R10…I sincerely hope their accuracy for real use environments has been improved
Can it fit on a truestrike academy and see the gel section or is the camera throw too far for a single piece of stance turf? BLP sits right at the edge.
“Barely any subscription fees.” 😂
Will gc quad sticker work on garmin r 50??
Because gcquad stickers are significantly smaller.
More recently I bought the new Square Golf launch monitor which is really good and gives shot shape and club data for not much more cost than the R10. You might want to consider it. I was going to sell my R10 but would keep hold of it for course play if it had Home Tee Hero updated to the R50 graphics.
@ does square work for taking to local driving range. That’s my main usecase
@@itshadouken Unfortunately no, indoor only. In that case I would suggest the MLM2 Pro.
@ thanks
How is it going back and forth between left handed and right handed players? Does it know when you switch orientation? Or is there some sort of quick action you can tell the device?
If you have to go into settings each time you switch from righty to lefty that would be a little irritating.
With gspro and the play out hole feature it will work great!
@@GolfBustersthanks for replying! Love the videos
@taylor52791 in gspro it will switch for you based on the profile used I believe!
Please review square golf
Can gameplay be controlled from an iPad via Bluetooth while the HDMI is connected to a projector so you do not constantly squat down to set up the shots? Thanks for the video! From - "A tall old guy"
When playing the course with two players, does Player 1 need to finish the hole before Player 2 can take their turn?
No! We just set the video up like that!
AmaIng video guys. How did you screen record the gameplay? Does this connect to ipad to control if you dont want to bend over all the time to aim your shot etc?
Super cool that it’s all in one, but I would never use their sim over GSPro.
So it doesn’t really eliminate the need for a computer/laptop. 🤷♂️
Do you have to pay a subscription for using the software?
Home Tee Hero is $100 a year and Awesome has a $300 lifetime price.
How was it switching between left and right handed golfers? do you have to select the handiness of the golfer at setup? edit: guess i should've waited until the end of the video lol
Horrible moving between lefties and righties!,,,
Does it show the averages of the data from a practice session? What about dispersion circles?
great video :) i would really be interested in seeing the variation of club path and face to path compared to trackman or gc4. If they are accurate in this there's no doubt in buying this launch monitor in my opinion.
We tested briefly and it seemed to be very accurate. I would be shocked if it wasn’t to be honest with how close the camera sits and how big your club sticker is.
He finally posted
Lots coming
I would love one of those!
👀👀👀
Plans for cellphone remote app?
umm but GSpro and E6 need like teraflops compute.
Easy with gspro and the play out hole feature. Will need a laptop for gspro.
Love the video, but 95% of people who are in the market for this, already own a laptop, so it’s not an automatic $1000 savings. But I think it’s still a good priced all in one. Impressive.
Quality! 👏🏼
Thanks Mitch!
Great review!
Thank you!
Is there a way to interact with it outside of the touchscreen? I imagine having to lean down for every shot would be annoying after awhile. Other than that this seems like an incredible product and I could see this possibly replacing my mlm2pro/ipad setup.
It can connect to pc for sure and I believe iPad as well!
Will the R50 have a setting to adjust to range balls?
I believe so!
Especially saying "No need for a projector". How ridiculous. You still need a projector if you want to play sim golf on a screen vs a net.
100% agree with you
Agree! Even gspro is far from today’s gaming standards. Trackman v3 is pretty good
I think what we meant is compared to other simulator softwares and overall course graphics.
I think that was done rather than them switching the unit for righty & lefty.
I lease Home Tee Hero and own Awesome (R10) and I play with alternate shots, no problem. But the problem with any side monitor is needing to pick it up and move it for lefties to play.
What settings does this thing play GS Pro on 4K High? 1080 P Med? etc... Thinking of dumping my GC3 NOW for this thing
Gspro will still be whatever your laptop can run!
@ oh I thought there was a “pc” built in it so if you use third party software you still need the pc
@@clw22580 yep
How would you play with righties and lefties? Do you play the entire hole, then switch, or did you just edit this video like this?
In gspro you would do the play out home option, don’t believe it’s currently an option in home tee hero.
I might have missed it in the video, but if this thing could read putts, I can see upgrading to it. If it could load software like Awesome Golf onto it, it would crush the competition. My only concern is overheating issues and screen brightness while under mid-day sun down here in Louisiana summers.
Reads putts great! We just personally believe you should never putt in on a golf simulator.
LOL
@@GolfBusters agree wholeheartedly. Putting isn’t fun on golf sims
Does it measure or estimate spin with regular balls?
Yes there's dots that go on club
Maesured
Can you do speed training on it?
Clarification on "saving money by nit needing a gaming pc" = only applies for HTH users. If you want to play GSPro, which most do, youre still required to have a gaming laptop/pc.
How do you not need to buy a projector. How is the picture getting to the screen?
They are referring to just using the built in screen. The unit is connected to a projector in this video via an HDMI cable
@@bowl816 Same as using a tablet with any other launch monitor. Sigh. Need a projector.
@@JustMeAP1 You don't really need a projector as much as you might think. I connect to a older 55' lcd TV off to the side of my hitting area and it looks great. That way you can just use foam balls or hit real balls into a net. No need to pay for a giant screen and projector but get about 95% of the immersive experience.
@@DurangoLegend My giant screen cost $100. My commercial projector cost $425. My setup works great being left outside. No need to use foam balls. $380 cage. Done.
Is there putting?
Looks excellent. I’ve almost been ready to pull the trigger on a gc3 but will wait to see more independant comparisons now.
@jock obviously the headline is not needing a computer and I see on play betters video the screen shows e6 and gspro but I’m assuming you can’t integrate these without a computer?
wondering the same
Yes! Need pc to integrate other programs.
@@GolfBustersthat's a deal breaker I wondered why every single review didn't click on e6 probably at Garmin's request as it not compatible with the unit and at 5k you would expect it
Can it do Putting?
Yes
Would like to see this compared to other launch monitors 😊l
Will it detect putting
Yes!
Not getting a FHD screen on a $5000 device is rough. It's a little disappointing that you said the screen is good
The screen is FHD
@GolfBusters really? The Garmin website says 800x1280 which is half the resolution of FHD
@@jessegilson6345 No full HD is defined as starting as 720p which is 720 x 1280. 1080p is 1080 x 1920. But honestly you aren't going to see any difference between 720p and 1080p on a 10" screen.
I was under the impression you would be able to play GSPro without having to link it up with a pc/laptop?
Nope.
Gspro requires graphics this thing can't handle
@@nate3972 It could probably handle it but it really isn't setup to be used like a standalone computer and probably a legal restriction. GSPro doesn't take that much graphics power for the HD resolution.
That’s sick
I agree!
My iPhone is a computer, tv, golf gps and a whole lot more. It’s pretty small
TEST THE PROTEE VX!!!
It's barely tested! Really frustrating!
There are lots of VX reviews out there
Is the "home tee hero" also updated for the R10?
Not sure!
No, that’s an R50 exclusive according to Garmin.
@@bowl816 Boo! LOL
21 minutes is a long time - can this thing run 4k res over that HDMI or what?
$5k jfc. I'll take a BLP all day honestly
Absolutely. Still can’t beat the blp/gc3 for the price.
I would say that’s debate able. BLP is 4K first year then after 2 more years it costs more.
@ well you’ve always had an issue with blp, but you’re getting superior technology and accuracy for a fraction of its price. Hence the yearly cost. I’ll pay attention once pros start trusting garmin monitors.
Seems like it has a Skytrak type delay.
Do you need special balls for it?
No!
Putting?
Looks great. Thanks for the showcase. What’s the alignment process like?
What does it take to play GSPro?
Just a garmin license for gspro I believe!
@@GolfBusters umm but GSpro and E6 need like teraflops compute. What is the horsepower of this graphically if the GPU is baked in? What's the chip?
. I'm gonna answer my own question, I think you still need a gaming pc for the major softwares.
Come Home Mrs. Noah
I'm new here but these guys don't have very good swings... I do like to look at the unit though.
The uglier the swing the more recognizable. Long term play
Sorry, not impressed, this is just R10 with a screen and stupid high price, hard pass, stick to mevo+, GS Pro then you can also put.
Is this an ad? Lol
Nope
Stickers and no gspro integration no thanks
It has gspro integration
BS, it is NOT a computer, it is not even iPad that you can run your e6 connect
Essentially a computer built in, it can run all the garmin programs
@@GolfBustersbut not e6 or even awesome golf which is rubbish when a simple iPad can do all of them
5k no thanks. 2k would sell like hotcakes.
Chevy would sell a lot more corvettes if they were 20k. Better call Chevy and let em know
@@nate3972 maybe but the unions would block it. does Garmin have 100 year union commitments like the auto industry that I'm not aware about? Do you really think this launch monitor has the same mark-up percentage as the auto industry? There are a lot of scholars on RUclips comments.
I think 3000-3500 they would fly off the shelf.
@@bowl816 They are going to sell just fine at $5K. Play better golf can't get them fast enough.
