was looking at both of these.........i golf 100 - 150 rounds a year.....ended up getting the s70 and i LOVE it as an everyday watch.....its not golf season anymore but i am excited to use it when it is.....cheers from Canada
Good review as alway. I have an ‘old’ Approach S60 and it’s interesting to see how these watches have moved on even over a relatively short time. Battery life has really improved. I play one round with the S60 and I’m down at least 55 to 60% so not getting 2 rounds. I use mine only for golf and really if I’m honest, only front, middle & back. It’s too finicky to pick out hazard yardage and when I try, feels like I’m holding up play. If the new watches work better at this, then it’s a good thing especially if you play lots of new courses. I think that to justify the price of these watches, you need to use the full range of functions (as you do by the sound of things) because if not, it’s a lot of cash for a yardage to the middle of the green. 👍🏻
Thanks Fordy 👍 I totally agree with you, most of the time I only use front middle and back…the shot scope G5 does a great job at this, with a battery life that lasts multiple days but only costs about £130. The battery will degrade over time, so not entirely surprised your S60 isn’t quite lasting for 2 rounds now, but the watch tech has come on a long way since then too But I do like the fitness tracking and other features that come with these watches.
I go this route before…choose venu sq over s60. The major downside, the venue sq failed to connect to satellite whenever i want to play golf. Over 1 year of using it, only once it connected. If you want to play golf, stick to the garmin approach model (S series). You won’t be disappointed.
This was so helpful, thanks mate. Have signed up to the newsletter which also sounds great😃 Venu 3 is for me :) I can stomach having less golf features…
Watch itself is good. Battery life excellent. My Venu 3 is off by 10yds no matter what I've tried. Connects to satellites but is still off on yardage, which renders it useless for golf. A buddy had an older garmin that was spot on. I have gone back to my scope for accuracy.
@@ostir1 if I were to do it again I would probably just go with the S70 because golf was a main reason for buying one. Rather than go cheaper I would've put out the extra for the S62 or S70 since golf was the most important feature. That being said, pretty sure it's just my watch that has an issue and not all. Convenience and shot tracking are nice but for plain quick and easy, a rangefinder is still hard to beat. And more accurate to actual flag distance for golf.
Thank you. This video is very helpful for me. I had given up on the golf dedicated models but this video helps me to see what I can still get which suits perfectly.
Can the venu 3 merge 2 map courses for 18 holes? Some courses have different maps on the first nine and the back nine. My vivoactive isnt able to do so, so I would have to end my round for the first round and start another for the second round (with a different map course). Meanwhile my buddy with the fenix could immediately add course if the back nine course has a different map.
Thanks for this, been looking if I need to upgrade from my Venu 1. From what I can tell the golf app is still the exact same on the Venu 3. So if you want a cheap golf watch with an OLED screen, see if you can pickup a second hand Venu 1.
How does the venu 3 compare with the s62? More specifically the golf funtuons. The golf caddy sounds like a great funtion, but is it also offered in the venu 3? Google says yes but on the garmin website it was a little vague. The specs says no but on a differnet pages it gave the impression that it does. During your testing, did it have the virtual caddy?
Thanks for the really helpful review! Only just discovering this review :) Just one question - which size do you have on in the video? Is it the smaller one?
At 3:40 you show some watch faces that look different from mine that only have a trashcan button (not an edit button). One that stood out to be was at 3:44 with the rocks, mine has a swirl in the background instead. How did you edit those?
Yes that’s correct, you have to download the course via the Garmin connect app . Here’s a helpful article that has a link on how to do it forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/healthandwellness/f/venu-3-series/367786/garmin-connect-vs-garmin-golf-apps-for-venu-3---not-understanding-what-is-required
Nice explanation Kevin. I used to own a s42 garmin watch previously which did not provide a hole view and also the grid system used to give pardages to certain points on the course not very intuiative. My current bushnell ion elite albeit not great for their yardage codes offers hole view. Had this watch improved in this area i would be tempted to make a purchase. .
@GolfGuyReviews how much have you used the venu 3? I'm seeing tons of people complaining about scratches. The venu 3 and vivoactive both have gorilla glass 3 which is pretty easy to scratch.
I am not going to lie, I'm confused by this video... The s70s defining feature is the virtual caddy, real shot, and green reader yet the watch that has none of those is better? One is a golf watch and one is a fitness watch.. If you want the golf one, get the s70, it's not like either of these are cheap.
have they fixed the famous problems remported on previous versions of Venu ? people were really disappointed ... and , as you have had it for more time.... have you heard or experienced new problems popped up in this new version Venu 3?
Sorry, I wasn’t aware of famous problems with the previous version. I didn’t experience any significant issues when reviewing it, other than ones I highlighted in the video 👍

Great to hear you love the S70, it’s a cracking watch 👍

But I do like the fitness tracking and other features that come with these watches.
I use the golf app on the Venu v1 and hazards are 2 clicks away. I use the feature a lot to see what the carry is over water.
Darn. The green pinpoint map is the number one feature I use with my s62. That's a deal-breaker for me. I guess I need to save up for the S70

I’m not sure why you watch wouldn’t connect, I can’t say I experienced that issue 🤷

How strange. I didn’t have that issue
I already decided for venu 3.. now i am back on start 😂

@@rickknostman7439thank you for the explanation Rick . I wil sleap it over. But i think approach watches are better for golf. Have a nice day

I just got a Venu 2, do you know how to use GPS? I couldn't figure it out

Thanks so much! If I remember correctly the Venu 3 was the 45mm and the S70 was the 42mm

I’m sorry but I no longer have the watch so I can’t say for sure, perhaps more watch faces were added as part of a software update?
Merci pour cette superbe vidéo je vais choisir la Venu 3
Thank you 🙏
Really helpful video thank you! I have one question.. is it true that venu does not have preloaded courses that s70 has?
Yes that’s correct, you have to download the course via the Garmin connect app . Here’s a helpful article that has a link on how to do it

Thanks for watching as always Raj. Glad you’re still getting on well with the Bushenll ion elite 👍
👍
Does the vivoactive 5 offer all the same features of the venu 3 for golf?
I’m sorry Aaron I don’t know, I’ve not tried the Vivoactive 5 yet
@GolfGuyReviews how much have you used the venu 3? I'm seeing tons of people complaining about scratches. The venu 3 and vivoactive both have gorilla glass 3 which is pretty easy to scratch.
Is this watch god for runners? I like the smart watch features or this one over the FR 265.
Thanks for watching, I’m not really a runner I’m afraid. I recommend checking out DesFit or Dc Rainmaker’s videos on RUclips 👍
This is exactly the review I was looking for thank you!
Love to hear that 👍🏌️♂️
I have a venu 1...I have to switch between metric and imperial In order to get proper yardage. Does the venu 3 fix this issue.
I didn’t notice that being an issue when I tested it 👍
I believe u have to download good course to play
Not as convenient as preloaded.
How do you end golf round on watch, got to 18th and just wanted to keep going had to turn watch off in end
Sorry, I don't have the watch anymore, I can't remember off the top of my head, but I don't remember having an issue when using it on the course.
Garmin s70 is the best!!! You pay for what you get
Hi Kevin , can you get swing tempo on the venu 3 ? Thanks
No I didn’t see that as an available app while I was testing it. Thanks for watching 👍
Hi can i know , can what watch have swing tempo detect sensor ?

You can block specific notifications on thr venu 2 so i only have texts, whats app messages and phone calls come thru. Everything els is blocked
Are you using an android phone?
just get a apple ultra 2 and install 18 birdies or golf logix
These Garmin’s still crush an Apple Ultra 2 in battery life, and are significantly cheaper, so I don’t think it’s as simple as that for many 👍
Stallone ???
??
I want "plays like" mode, no Venu for me
PEN ,PEN , VEN VEN . Now VEN - U .. VENu ..
By the way , great review as always 👍👍👏👏👏
I guess I was thinking VENUS minus the S, rather than MENU with a V.
I heard the pronunciation after, thought I’ll just have to take the ribbing 🤣
