TOTBL holds a special place in my heart. And look into the B-Sides for The Specialist, that song is just incredible. If you're more of a guy who likes individual songs over album cohesiveness, you'll totally like First Impressions of Earth by The Strokes. All the songs are individually great, but there isn't a real theme to the album itself, lol.
The drums of Interpol is insane I think. I remember when this came out and we got our drummer to play like this on some of our songs. it was insane and we would go "Yepp, his ours" every time he was sound checking his drums. Ah, sweet youth. So damn groovey! Cigarettes and shades all the way. You have to shake your head to this, and to me it sounds a lot like cool New York, this and the Strokes came at the same time, and I can really hear it. :)
the album version with carlos d's piano outro alongside the guitar is so beautiful and amazing. its a shame they never adapted doing it like that live, they ruin the song by blaring the organ piano
"well then hook me in... Cause I like to get hooked" is one of my favourite moments of interpol as a whole. I don't even know why, it just has this weirdly heart warming humor and delivery. The song definitely captures a very specific feeling, it's really important for the overall tone of the album, so much nuance!
He came back for interpol!! Judging from your reaction, you would probably get more excited with their 2nd album or even with El pintor(their return after the bass player split). But you said something absolutely spot on in the end, it is a period piece. This album came soon after 9/11, and for those who followed the rock revival scene that happend in NYC at the time, TOTBL definitely as a special aura about it, that's why for some of us, in some ways it's more than just music. Anyway, great to see you reaction as always
I really enjoy listening to the musicians ear you have and telling us what you hear and why they do it. The B-sides would be nice to see you react to. If you do Song Seven, there’s the demo/recording version on Turn On The Bright Lights Anniversary. But the full song is on Antics Special Edition. I recommend the version off Antics. Excited to see you react to Specialist, Song Seven and Gavilan/Cubed the most
good music stays good, had a 3 years break from listening to interpol exposing myself to other genres finding hidden gems, and since their 2018 new LP which was consistent asf, listeing to Interpol previous LP feels fresh.
Turn on the Bright Lights is their most cohesive best album, it's something you can listen from start to finish. Their other albums are simply less cohesive, more standalone singles, really good singles.
Your reaction feels a lot like my first listening 20 years ago, where the music seems to cascade around your brain. But a lot of us back then had reference points and fresher memories of The Cure, Joy Division/New Order, The Smiths, Wire and Public Image Ltd. to compare to. The post-punk revival back then was a fresh take on basically a forgotten genre that at first was diluted by the emergence of radio friendly new wave and then forced underground with the rest of the alt/indie artists of the 80s, only on an occasion get a spot on a John Hughes film soundtrack. Then grunge took over and changed the narrative of indie rock. It took a decade, but it played itself out eventually. Devolving into the butt rock you hear on most current FM rock stations now.
i was expecting a casual fun reaction but i ended up being very impressed, i love how invested you were listening to this album and your comments were so on point, made me notice a few things that i didnt pay attention to being a huge interpol fan and after listening to this album maaany times so yeah. great video. subscribed
I think you should just embark on a band-discovery journey like you did with Radiohead with Interpol. There's such gems in every single album. I've seen them live 3 times and, let me tell you, I will go every single time they come to my country to play.
fantastic reaction and analysis as always, you're so instantly perceptive to the song's nuances and it's rly satisfying to see! please please please do animal collective's merriweather post pavilion at some point!!
The first 4 albums were made with the OG bassist; arguably, his biggest influence was on LP4, which many fans agree is the band's best produced. I recommend all 4 records and the 4th especially. It's the most unique (and controversial). LP5 is also good. No comment on LP6 :-)
Album listener master race. That being said and all kidding aside, a couple songs on here go really well in a playlist I think, namely Obstacle 1 and PDA. Great reaction.
I'm glad you liked the album. It's one of my favorite albums of all time. I know you're a Radiohead fan nowadays, so I hope you'll react or review the upcoming record of The Smile (Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood). Their latest song 'The Smoke' is absolutely phenomenal, and I hope you like it as much as I do. Here's the link to that song: ruclips.net/video/tEPEqZnTwdo/видео.html&ab_channel=TheSmile
I actually still listen to this album quite often. Watching your review made me throw on She Wants Revenge self titled. Not that it's superior, but it was the soundtrack to my first few months when i moved to LA in 2005 exploring the city at night. Both albums are super moody/vibey.
Early on there were a lot of comparisons of Paul Banks to Ian Curtis from Joy Division but after listening to just a few songs of theirs you notice that's not the case at all. One of my all-time favorite bands and possibly their best album. Some close seconds though.
B-sides are just as good as songs on the album imo the only big difference I would say really is they don't flow together as well as they do on the album but listening it in the order of what they are in on disc 2 still gives it a nice feel as well as a give it a good closure
Love these videos! I'm wondering how you actually make these sort of videos? Do you download the songs and put them into the video in post? Or screenrecord ? Thanks
Muse is my favorite band mainly because I love the great diversity across their albums and within their albums. But I actually listen to Interpol more than Muse. I especially listen to their first two albums which are almost the same album broken into two parts. Their guitars are great for any mood for me. Definitely listen all of Antics. It’s a masterpiece. Not Even Jail and A Time to Be so Small are my favorites.
Glad you enjoyed this masterpiece, I can suggest you to react to "BRMC" by "Black Rebel Motorcycle Club", they was inspired by 80's and 90's shoegaze bands (The Jesus and Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, Ride, The Stone Roses) and just like "Interpol" this band was in the post-punk revival movement
Damn I’m surprised you don’t like Stella that much ! One of my favorites off the album ! But I see it’s been a year since you did this so maybe your mind has changed.
the B-side "Specialist" is one of the best song they make, dont know why didnt enter in the main album maybe cuz was too long? anyway i would love see your react to that song
You should definitely give a chance to the b-sides, in my opinion the only flaw with this album is not adding the song Specialist to it, but as a flaw I mean that it would take it from a 10 to an 11...
Nice reaction. Please react to at least a few of the B sides, they're the same level of quality. Gavilan, A Time to be so Small, Song Seven, Precipitate, and The Specialist are all excellent
no its a million times worse live. it does not capture that brilliant sadness in the ending. they never use the piano mixed with the guitar outro that carlos d did. its only on the bright lights album recording. they just blare the organ loud in live versions
Nobody talks about Obstacle 2, but it's literally so good
I’ve listened to their albums for well over a decade and I have a new favorite song every month to this day 😅
Antics- their second album, you won't be disappointed!
their third album is great too
@@lmnopp2896 and their fourth is criminally underrated
@@elderbat3333agreed.

one of my favourite albums of all time. The basslines are something else. Groovy, moody and ultimately untouchable!
The drums of Interpol is insane I think. I remember when this came out and we got our drummer to play like this on some of our songs. it was insane and we would go "Yepp, his ours" every time he was sound checking his drums. Ah, sweet youth. So damn groovey! Cigarettes and shades all the way.

I will die on the hill that Leif Erikson is their greatest song ever.
It’s such a beautifully nuanced song about sex and relationships
the album version with carlos d's piano outro alongside the guitar is so beautiful and amazing. its a shame they never adapted doing it like that live, they ruin the song by blaring the organ piano
It's definitely in my top 5 🥺
Yes thank you, Leif Erikson is my all-time favorite song period.
"well then hook me in... Cause I like to get hooked" is one of my favourite moments of interpol as a whole. I don't even know why, it just has this weirdly heart warming humor and delivery. The song definitely captures a very specific feeling, it's really important for the overall tone of the album, so much nuance!
my favorite too, pauls lyrics are top tier on this one. and the guitar parts... absolutely mesmerizing
Specialist and Song seven also deff need a listen even if just in your free time. Song seven is honestly one of my favorite Interpol songs over all.
Agreed on Song Seven👌👍
One of the best debut albums of all time.
One of the best albums of all time period imo
If i'm in a certain type of mood the new makes me ball my eyes out tbh. It's such a beautiful track
The new scrambles my insides every single time.
He came back for interpol!!

Encapsulates post 9/11 gloom perfectly. I wasn't there but this is what i imagine it sounds like.. especially the intro Untitled and NYC

Forgot how much I loved this album, thanks for reminding me.
The first song commentary you made is actually how I feel about Interpol in general. I sometimes feel a piece missing and can't fully love the songs.
good music stays good, had a 3 years break from listening to interpol exposing myself to other genres finding hidden gems, and since their 2018 new LP which was consistent asf, listeing to Interpol previous LP feels fresh.
Finally some Marauder love
Thanks. Keep going.
Turn on the Bright Lights is their most cohesive best album, it's something you can listen from start to finish. Their other albums are simply less cohesive, more standalone singles, really good singles.
You mention the bass, which is a definite highlight, but there is also such musicality in the drumming in this album
Specialist is a must listen. The lyrics are great lmao.

my fave album, gets better on more listens, love that you reacted to it.
Exactly. And if you dive into the lyrics, you’ll interpret a different message for a lifetime. It’s truly a masterpiece.
The New is Amazing 😭
Best B-sides to listen to from this album are Specialist, Precipitate and Gavilan/Cubed, all masterpieces
Love seeing your reaction and your input. Subscribed. Gonna check out now if you’ve done more interpol albums 😅

This album is a masterpiece. It is so cohesive. Nice reaction and please listen to their second album Antics.
I’ve never listened to this album but been meaning too. Great to listen to it for the first time with someone else makes it better

Interpol have cited the Cure as a major influence - can you see it in this album?
Album listener master race. That being said and all kidding aside, a couple songs on here go really well in a playlist I think, namely Obstacle 1 and PDA. Great reaction.
The first two Interpol albums are probably amongst my top 5 all time and I'm not sure which I'd rank amongst the other.
100% you should check out the b-side Specialist
Enjoyed your reaction to what has to be my favourite album from my favourite band. B-side reaction video would be great.
The most underrated album i ve ever heard
If you're hoping for things to get a little more "clear" with them, you'll definitely like Antics.
Damn I missed the part 2. Glad to hear what you had to say!

react to Antics, you're gonna love it, also some people are already saying, react to the songs The Specialist and Song Seven (the Antics version)

"The New" really is the masterpiece of this album
NOOO HE DIDN'T LISTEN TO THE B-SIDES... me sad :(
Damn I’m surprised you don’t like Stella that much ! One of my favorites off the album ! But I see it’s been a year since you did this so maybe your mind has changed.
Interpol great. Check out George Harrisons All things must pass. The 50th anniversary remix is great.
the B-side "Specialist" is one of the best song they make, dont know why didnt enter in the main album maybe cuz was too long? anyway i would love see your react to that song
You should react to Our Love To Admire. I'm told its quite divisive in the Interpol fanbase, although I like it a lot.
11:04 it's an organ/keyboard i'm pretty sure
Antic next please!
I swear to god you'd lose your mind listening to As Blue as Indigo from Tigercub
I like it
Gotta do the b sides. They're in my opinion better than the actual album which is already a 10/10. They're insane.
Loved your reaction alot, there sophomore album antic's is just as good if not better possibly.
Room On Fire The Strokes album is so good i recommend to review it
You should definitely give a chance to the b-sides, in my opinion the only flaw with this album is not adding the song Specialist to it, but as a flaw I mean that it would take it from a 10 to an 11...
neat , what headphones are you using ?
Do Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (Wilco) or White Pony (Deftones)!
Ohhh noooo, "not an album listener"? I mean, that's your right, but you're really missing out.
React to Antics!
Nice reaction. Please react to at least a few of the B sides, they're the same level of quality. Gavilan, A Time to be so Small, Song Seven, Precipitate, and The Specialist are all excellent
I'm so excited to watch this! Love your content, and this album!
Please react to the new The Smile songs!
Leif erikson holds up a lot more once you see them perform it live 🤯
no its a million times worse live. it does not capture that brilliant sadness in the ending. they never use the piano mixed with the guitar outro that carlos d did. its only on the bright lights album recording. they just blare the organ loud in live versions

Yeah, you totally should listen to de B-sides, there are some really interesting and unique songs
