- M. Shadows joined Ted Stryker in Las Vegas for an episode of Tuna on Toast.
It was the morning after Avenged Sevenfold played their first concert in 5 years. It was also the weekend of the Sick New World Festival.
The guys discuss how M. Shadows thinks the performance went including what he gives himself outta 10!
M. Shadows and Stryker talk about the new Avenged Sevenfold album titled LIFE IS BUT A DREAM.
Huge thank you for supporting my channel! Keep spreading the word on Tuna on Toast. Hope to see you all at a show!
Matt looks excited when he talks about this album and I can’t wait to see that energy live.
I mean let's hope the album does well . I'm not a hater just skeptical lmfao
@@fearless3073 if you want a preview lookup “we love you” live.
@@coelleen I listened to it an hour ago. Not the best song , but the heavy parts kind of have my interest lol
That area 15 concert was electric
@@fearless3073 I love what I’ve heard so far
Down to earth, and self reflective. It's great to see it these days. Thanks for everything A7X!
Absolutely crazy to start the first show in 5 years with a brand new song no one had even heard yet. Shows how confident and proud they are of this album and its tracks. Cannot wait to listen to the whole thing, it will be so worth the wait
Everyone there had heard it I believe. It was part of a big listening event that ended with a live show. They played ticket buyers the whole album
@@jordy2x_ Not quite. You were able to book one of several listening events over the weekend. The live show was at the venue attached to Area15 but they were separate events. For example, I went to the show Friday night and booked my listening event for 2pm Sunday afternoon.
damn has it been that long..?
@@styxxhs3010
2018 was their last tour. Corona made the last three years seem like one but yeah, that was five years ago.
@@jayhill2193 how could i have forgotten about corona?! ahhh! i lost some short term memory.. actually.. so that makes sense..
I’ve got something in common with Matt: we both sing Avenged Sevenfold in the shower 😂
Hey we're three!! 🤣
Four! 😂
A bit late, but five lmao
Matt is an amazing guy. You can just feel the good energy whenever you see an interview with him. I really appreciate everything they are doing. More musicians should go this route and step out of their boxes.
I've been a fan of this band for 17 years+ and they've changed my life. I'm so excited to see them back making new music and sounding so powerful and excited again. Love you guys and hope to see you all making music for a long, long time.
Same here brother ! Been listening since 2005. City of evil changed my life. Nothing has inspired me more then this band.
I've also been a huge fan for 17+ years I got a Deathbat tattoo that goes from shoulder to shoulder across my back ☺️ but when they come to Portland I will be working and I work where they will be playing so the only thing that could top being paid to see them is getting to meet them. I can't wait to see them.
He's so sincere about everything he says. I can see the passion, excitement, and pride in their work. I'm super pumped for this album and the live show!
Matt is such a great interview.. coolest fucking dude.
Agree with Matt! Speaking as a musician myself, you need to evolve and do what you’re passionate about to keep yourself interested. Don’t let others dictate for you. Good for you A7X for keeping that liberty going and loving what you do, you guys are true artists! Excited for the new album!!! 😆😆😆😆😆
I’ve always respected these guys for not letting audience capture or even corporate capture happen.
Music is at its best when musicians make music "for themselves". Can't wait for the new album!
@@coelleen The 2 sides of the coin we call "Selling out"
@@errorx_x1063 selling out implies knowingly changing for money, fame, or power which is diff than audience captur, which is a slow subconscious change rather than purposefully selling commercialized art for money, power or other motives. It’s more like an artist loses creativity, get enchanted by their audience so deliver what they want instead of being true to themselves. But yeah, corporate capture is mostly selling out.
People need to recognize that at the end of the day, this is THEIR art. Dont try to dictate people’s creativity.
I love M. Shadows, he is so humble.
And then when he started talking about the self, the ego and existentialism I was moreeee in love of the way he thinks about life.
If we could get Sleep Token to tour with these guys, it could really define the evolution of music for 2023
Absolutely not. We need a tour with sleep token, loath, and deftones
Sleep token is about to start headlining tours
@nicholasmills3469 lol you're not wrong, both would be phenomenal
They're playing the same day at Louder Than Life in September. We got tickets!
I got to see Avenged Sevenfold and welcome to Rockville last Friday in Daytona Beach Florida. Holy shit they were fantastic those five years really helped all of them.
The growth with him is truly amazing !
I love that this dude is still so kind and humble after multiple critically acclaimed albums and years of being loved.
Shh.. quiet. You might piss somebody off..
I love hearing the way M. Shadows thinks. It’s really similar to how I view myself as a musician too; I also love hearing how excited he is about everything and that his voice still feels good. It’s great that he’s making the conscious decision to make sure he doesn’t hurt it again.
Also..wtf, when M. Shadows says he loves you, you say it back 😤
He’s just a guy. Lay off his dick bro.
Real
We love you has really really grown on me. I can't wait for the album!
The reality is that alot of the live performance nuances he is talkint about with the programming and such has been a thing for a while now. But they have been out of the game for so long; that its all crazy and new to Matt in the way he is describing it. They were really a traditional rock/metal band. I do like the way they’re experimenting
They seem to be embracing new technology. The NFT thing worked for them but if it's been cooking up for several years then I can see why they went forward with it even tho crypto stuff is dead.
As for the production side of the new tech, Syn is about to really enjoy having a much easier time live once he gets it's all figured out.
OMG MY MAN IS TALKING ABOUT THE ALBUM, I'M GONNA CRY❤❤❤❤❤❤
I’ve seen videos of the show and Matt sounds amazing, I can’t wait to see them here in Houston 🤘 thank you Stryker for this badass interview
The last time I heard Matt live he sounded horrible, because his voice was completely dead. I'm so glad his voice is back again!
We got him for another 3 years, maybe 4. Gotta enjoy it while we can until the next five year break.
@@evoxghirettii dont think so. Did you hear the vegas show? He sounded great.
in the studio he sounds like shit now. like holy SHIT the new stuff is so bad
@@evoxghiretti 21:20 19:06
15:54 how I also wish to hear: “Dad with uncle Jimmy” ❤
I'm really stoked for this new album. I feel like I'm rediscovering the stage. I can't wait to get stoned and listen to the album.
One of the best dudes in music and easily one of my favourite frontmen of all time. Still not sure about the new musical direction but I can’t wait for the album and more shows!🤘
Yeah. I love these guys. But I'm not sure what he is talking about. Saying we can't play the same ole songs. I get that and I love new music. But what is this direction you're taking? I sorrowfully don't enjoy these new songs. And it breaks my heart. I get wanting to make new music. But I don't get this stuff. Goofy
@@dnmoscato92 Yep exactly lol, completely different sound to them but hopefully there's some better ones on the album
@@dnmoscato92
It feels to me like what Linkin Park went through in the end. Never being able to sit still, constantly pushing to evolve and keep up with trends and leaving old fans in the dust. I can totally understand that they don't fancy themselves playing the same old songs day in day out. That may work for bands like AC/DC but everyone is not the same. Being the exact opposite of that however I can't see working out either, let's hope it'll be a mixed bag with something for everyone in it. The Stage was like that, with some songs catering to old fans, most stuff for newer, maybe that's the way it'll be.
This is the best damn interview I have ever heard with a musician, ever, period!
As a musician myself there are so many things to learn from this and introduce to my band. Especially the production part and ”behind the scene” stuff.
I’m amazed.
thank you so much for this amazing comment!!
@@TunaonToastwithStryker Well deserved. Now praying they will tour Euope as well 🙏
M. is such an intelligent, thoughtful person... oh, and a great singer too! I can't wait for the new album.
If this man has his grills in then you know shit is gonna go down
10000000%
Such an amazing human being. They all are. We re with you guys! FoREVer. Hope to see you soon in Europe 🤘🏼
The Area 15 show was absolutely brilliant. Nobody sounded amazing live and We Love You was a blast. It was fun to see M Shadows react to the sound and the crowd when the beat started to hit. You could just see the anxiety melt off his shoulders.
The 360 immersive experience was amazing and the concert in the back of area 15 was one of the craziest experiences I’ve ever had to pleasure of being apart of. The energy was through the roof!
It was the best show ive ever seen from them. Saw them in 2010, 2014, and 2017. This small set was by far better than them all. I was so happy to be there
I love this interview. He’s killing it with the responses to the questions about their new album. I love it.
I’ve seen some videos of the show (it is fucking amazing) and I can’t even imagine the energy watching it live
I feel like Mattel is the "little piece of heaven" of this album
The new Pink Floyd of creaters glad your bringing it taking the journey A7X
Rev would be so proud rn 🥺
Just bought my tickets for the Portland show later this year, stoked to see these guys live for the first time!
He has a clarity of thought that I don’t appreciate enough. His justification for bands experimenting with music was so well put, avoiding mention of the generic and unnecessarily aggressive “fuck the fans we do it for us” approach, instead giving a clear, logical reason for it. Personally I really dig the first two singles and cannot wait for 2nd June!!
I can’t wait to see them soon
I was there for there first show in 5 years and it was awesome I bawled so hard at so far away, even after 5 years his voice is still so beautiful but sad at the same time, idk, I’m just rambling but it was so beautiful
The show was insane, I’m glad I went, best experience for sure
Great interview and I loved how down to earth Shadows is. He knows his performance was very sub par on some moments, specially the midrange cleans.
But I wonder If his voice can resist a tour without getting destroyed once again.
He once said "gotta have a laugh on every record", Can't wait to hear if there's one on this record.
Great show! Shadows is a legend!
this is a great conversation
Imagine if they actually watched Laker on the teleprompter while playing live hahaha
Seeing them in daytona this Friday night and then again in September in Tampa. My first time ever and have listened to them for over 15 years. Been waiting my whole life for this
We Love You❤
Groove IS rad!! I fucking love this album!
I love this man so much. Their albums single-handedly got me strong af in the gym lmao. So much emotion with their songs
I was at that show!!! It was amazing!! Simply amazing!!! I missed A7X!! Along with so many others!!! Welcome back!!!
My best friend and I went to their tour and we lost our shit when Mattel started, like I could’ve cried I was so happy
Matt wearing a daft punk shirt makes a lot of the vocoder stuff make way more sense!
Never really know what to expect with a new Avenged album, and you can't expect. They've put out and I've heard Nobody and We Love You and they've totally blown me away. So pumped for Life Is But A Dream.
Love this band music
Man I love this band. Great interview - thanks! \m/
I was at that show with a couple buddies of mine. We lost our voice because we were screaming at the top of our lungs for every song. When you guys played "We Love You" and "Nobody", personally I just felt all of the good energy from everyone in the crowd and especially you guys on the stage. It was my first ever A7X concert and I was glad I was able to go see you guys. I also can't wait to hear the rest of the album!
This interview is pure gold. Every word from Matt is deep and insightful about music and life, and every question asked is thoughtful. Stryker matches Matt's energy and provides a neat cultured and high standard platform without a single interruption... and that makes the interview a treasure!
I don't feel a second wasted, not to mention Matt's ability to speak without a curse word... 😲
Loved it loved it ❤
Really down to earth guy , most rock stars are in love with themselves but Matt is a really nice guy loved all there music so far and I like how there doing different styles in there new album , I LOVE YOU is a cool song can’t wait to hear the rest of the album , keep up the good work guys , keep Rocking 🤘🏻☠️🤘🏻
Can't wait to see you guys again on show! Fans from Quebec are thrilled ❤
Rockville!! So excited to see them for the first time in my life! I love A7X!😭
It is a sight to behold! Enjoy.
I was thereeee!!! You guys were absolutely AMAZING!!!🎉❤ I also had the privilege to be there to listen to LIBAD before its release date! All I can say is that it's an absolute MASTERPIECE!!! I cannot wait to play it over and over on repeat 24/7! I love the versatility of the new sound! ❤❤❤
Also, as a singer, I love the way he talks about his voice ans his performances. Ahh ❤ this video made me really happy!
Loving the Daft Punk shirt. Can't wait for the new record.
I got to listen to the Album at Area15 and Watched them live as well in Vegas and the album is definitely different but in a good way, I hope every fan gives it listen too. Glad to see the boys come back and sharing new music 🤘
Ugh I'm so excited 😊 I'm so happy that they are excited about their new music.
this was great, thanks. cant wait for new cd.
pretty incredible listening to one of my favorite artist talk about young artists i also love! thank you sm for shouting out Scene Queen and 100 gecs, matt!! youre the best
and I appreciate you for watching m shadows on my podcast, he's the nicest guy!!
Great interview, I'm totally stoked for the new album. The Stage is my favorite A7X album. I've been listening to them since the Nightmare album. Loved the two new singles, and I can't wait for the new album, great interview! 🤘🏽🙂
we love you is so catchy 🔥🔥🔥
I respect that he can push hard when he wants and is still working on that control
Gives us hope to hear flashes of the days of old
Did not think he would be so introspective.
Can't wait for the new record. 💜
This was such a wholesome convo! Love seeing you two together
Welcome Back Avenged Sevenfold ❤🔥 My First Metal Band
Thats so nice to hear he listens to other genres of music and get inspired by it, never thought he would like listening to Travis Scott or Daft Punk
I’m so excited to hear the rest of the album! Love both of the singles so far!
Going to be seeing them live in July and I can't wait! I'm not usually one for concerts, but this is about the most excited I've ever been for something. I'm desperately avoiding hearing the new songs so I can hear them for the first time live!
So refreshing to hear this guy.
My dog has listened to a7x with me so mang times in my car. The way homie just fell asleep on my lap watching this video makes me hope he recognizes m shadows voice lmao. My friend and his girl are down in Rockville mostly pumped for you guys. Put on a show gang 👊
Wow! I love this interview. Mind blowing
Tell ya what, A7X got me through some of the darkest times of my life. I listened to the self-titled album on repeat for months. I decided I’d learn to play the drums like the Rev, so I taught myself. He would pass soon thereafter. I listened to that album even more afterwards. This band means so much to me. I’d love to go out to dinner with the group and hear about their experience. I am sure I speak for many in saying we need this record.
I’m so glad I seen Them Friday ! Sick new world was brutal 😩🔥🔥🔥 lol
I got a ticket for September, will be my 1st show... psyched ❤
Can't wait for Daytona this Saturday!!!!!!!!
I fucking love him
Amazing interview and loved everything Matt said about growth. I love the new music, and I hope other fans warm to it! ❤
I feel Matt is so humble, such a nice guy and good heart. We were missing this guy and his great personality. I feel I could watch him speaking for hours.
You guys are doing what I want as a fan of the band from day 1. Keep doing what you’re doing. Keep pushing music it forward.
I was at the Area 15 show! It was absolutely amazing seeing Avenged Sevenfold back on stage. Awesome interview Stryker! You asked questions that I had about the show and about the album experience 🤘🏻 June 2nd can't come soon enough.
Matt being a fan of Scene Queen is the coolest thing ever 🤘🏼
Great interviewer. Rare!
THANK YOU!!
I love you, Matthew S. Hadows
LIBAD IS the embodiment of Existentialism! I cannot FN WAIT! A self-aware band is one to watch for sure! Ive been with them since the 7th. Seeing them in this moment is SO EXCITING!!
What a cool dude. Never heard of Scene Queen, now I have to check them out
I have been a fan of Matt and the boys from Waking The Fallen. My first show ever seeing them was LBC (The famous DVD) and as a fan of everything they have done since, I’m glad they are still able to make music they love
The new stuff is out there for me, it’s not something I have gotten hooked on yet, it’s still so odd and so out there but there’s no denying the musical ability of these artists. They look energized and pumped again, they look like they are back to having fun.
I’ll give the album a listen when it comes out, but I don’t know if I will truly take to it fully, however I admire the courage to explore and to try new things that’s always 🤘🏻
My favorite band and I can't wait to see them in September. I can't wait to hear the rest of the new album that they worked really hard on!
All of those bands came to Las Vegas for my birthday weekend!! 🥳🔥🤘🏼
Kindly come to Shillong, state Meghalaya ( India 🇮🇳) cuz we're your big fan Ax7, hope to see you someday Matt
Great episode! Loved the questions you asked Stryker! The show was amazing. This was a great follow up 🤘
