I actually had the opposite happen: My conversion rate in the first month was 1.8%. The second month it went up to 2.4%, last two weeks my conversion rate exploded to 5.6%. My shop is only 2 months old (55 sales + 7 reviews). I did the one-product-a-day religiously in the first 3 weeks (still trying to follow this), and ads from week 2. I only recently found out that you can see the performance of keywords per item and cancel keywords you find irrelevant to your products in the ads - GAME CHANGER. Since I'm doing mostly digital products like bullet journals and clipart, I also played around with the listings. For the bullet journals, videos of skipping through all the pages definitely help. For my clip art, I put one item as big as possible on a split black and neon background to show the quality of my clipart (I'm very careful with my rendering; NO white pixel frames as you can get with AI art that has been cropped and isolated sloppily/way too hasty). Maybe that's helpful to some of you
As a vintage seller, a great deal of those who purchase from you are looking for a particular item that you just so happen to have. You can have perfect SEO, clean photos, and good reviews, but it ultimately comes down to someone saying, "I need this particular brand of vase, from this time period, and preferably in this color." No about of advertising or discounts will help it sell. It will go at full price the minute that person comes around. It could sell in a mere hours or sit for months with no views, suddenly one view, and sell an hour later. Always my experience.
Think you covered most reasons: SEO, tags, product photos, product videos, product descriptions, banners, overall aesthetics, and consistent theme. Good one!
Also keep in mind the summer slump is a real thing for all retail including Etsy. Your shop might take a dive until after school starts up too. People are on vacation & spending money on experiences instead of material things. Then they will hold their wallets until after school starts up. End of August or September people start seeing traffic come back again. It's that time of year depending on one's niche that it's gonna be super slow. Take advantage of this slow time and build up your shop for the holiday season. It will sneak up on you before you know it.
Went through the whole thing. A little afraid to make a shop on Etsy because of the cons, so I'm starting off on other platforms but these tips still apply.
These tips are so good! - I think my photos/aesthetic are professional and I had loads of sales for about 2 months (I sell marathon medal frames and wedding/baby personalised shadow boxes) then it all started dropping off recently so trying to get it started back up again! Trying to come up with some new product designs for listings in the meantime! Thank you!❤
Yeah that's the thing with Etsy, it's a little bit unpredictable because the algorithms could change any time. But your dip in sales might just be from not a lot of demand right now, or other factors like the season. Hope things pick up for you!✨
Omg I appreciate your little pronunciation highlight ahaha. I always get made fun of for my pronunciation of Bag/Tag (the Canadian way) :') And then get hung up and try to correct myself mid-conversation! Thanks for the video and your insight. I'm starting to think my product just sucks baha. I personally like them and enjoy creating them-but I need to re-access what people actually need/want and see if it's really hitting the mark. I did etsy ads for a long time, and sold a few that way, but I actually think my product is too specific and too niche, that it ends up on page one of my keyword search anyway-and I kind of realized at a certain point I waisted a lot of money with ads :') Actually the best thing for me I realized is-every time I listed a new item, within a week I'd make a sale (even if it was on a different item). Maybe my problem is also: I DO NOT post enough. (They take so long to make). I guess I need to streamline my process and post listings a lot more. Ah well, you live and learn :)
Hahahaha!!! The pronunciation thing 🤣 congrats on the sales! It's great that you're evaluating your shop / niche as you go along. I have some other useful videos in my Etsy playlist, I think you'll find them useful! Good luck! 💕🙌
I sell digital products and have steadily made about 1 sale a day the whole year . Some days no sales and some days 3 sales . Just raised my prices. Hoping this doesn’t sabotage what was an ok thing
Question please: as a shop owner, when i look at my shop in the retail setting, not in the backend, if i click on my listings, will those visits and views show in my stats? I’m new, so I’m wondering if the stats are just my own from poking around on my listings?
I actually am not sure about that! But I think if you're logged into your own account, I'm guessing Etsy won't take your own clicks into consideration. That's what makes sense to me, but I'm not sure if it's actually like that
Hi Dina. Thanks for this video! It was pretty helpful and I think I’ve finally started making the products that ‘I would buy from my shop’ but not sure if I can say the same for my first couple of listings. I hope things work out 🤞 I also wanted to ask - how useful do you think social Media is to get sales (not visits) - FB groups / Insta / Pinterest? I have not yet explored any of these
They are probably better 💪 we always improve with time. Hmmm I think it does help overall, but also I am too lazy to create social media and do outside stuff 🤣 it's a tradeoff! Ideally I would have a website that has a blog, and a way for people to purchase directly on the website, and also do Instagram, Tiktok and Pinterest for my shop. But that is a lot of time commitment
People said etsy was hard but I started one anyway and so far its been a waste. I only promoted on pinterest but pinterest is very very slow so im trying to promote on IG and TT. Hopefully something comes from that. Btw, my niche is social media templates and according to my stats im showing up multiple times on the first few pages.
My recent issue is that there were a bunch of bot views that randomly came in for 2 days, causing a massive spike and tanking my conversion rate. I went from over 4% to less than 0.5%. This was a couple weeks ago… usually etsy takes care of bot views, so I don’t know why they didn’t catch this one
@@homiekeen23 @carlylim Hmm I typed out a response but it didn’t go through for some reason… anyway, I know it’s a bot because there’s a truly enormous number of sales coming from a traffic source called “boost Etsy sales”, which I googled and it seems other sellers are being randomly hit by this as well. It’s just another scam website that tries to target desperate people unfortunately. I’ve never paid for ads or marketed my shop anywhere aside from the Etsy search algorithm, so I knew it was fishy when I first saw there was extra “direct traffic”
@@DinaLu Yeah from what you said in the video my view's have doubled up to a 100 but no sales, but that's just in the past few months. From improving titles and tags I have seen a difference. I just need to improve on my products and thumbnail pictures.

Use ads as manual option, not automatic..you can choose manually the ad words, so your listing won’t show up an any other irrelevant listing

Glad you enjoyed it! I actually have a dedicated video on how to pick a niche and I cover the oversaturation part

It really depends on the niche, I would say. If they are 2 completely different niches, I would open two shops
